Hello. Does anyone else have trouble finding partners these days? I lurk around here and in another RP website and it's been very hard to find new partners. Even the ones that I contact end up ghosting on me eventually.
I know perhaps my interests are too specific and that is also to blame, but I'm starting to wonder if it's a common thing, regardless.
I also wanted to ask if you think I'd be more successful if I created an OC? I never had any, but it seems a popular search.
Edited to explain that, while I'm very recent around here, I've been on the other website for a month, hence the ghosting experience. Sorry if that was confusing.

I would note appealing to a larger audience tends to be almost essential here, so that often splits into popular characters and their fandoms or very universal, very generic character pairings. As a whole, partners disappearing unexpectedly and not returning messages is not uncommon for the hobby now it seems. I believe this is a greater issue than just that facing any one roleplaying community, which I suspect has quite a bit to deal with the divergence from old groups and messengers and boards of old.

Persistence is another matter, in that a player with an interest check need keep trying to "bump" their topic to the first page, thus the focus, and often need do so daily in the hopes that they receive attention by anyone browsing. Essentially, success is not guaranteed, odds can only ever be shaped favorably to reach the goal, so one must approach it from many different angles to hedge their bets.

Most RP partners are shit because most people are shit. Keep searching and don't take it personally. Much like "friends" IRL, most will betray you or forget you exist, but the one or two who stick around make the squeeze worthwhile.

@Laifan I'll say you are not the only one that has trouble finding roleplay partners on here, I also use another site too in an attempt to have better success but the lack of success is more apparent on here in my experience. I do think an OC could help to have as a plan B kind of thing, I know we are all human with flaws and just want to have our own slice of success.

Being on RPG for more than a day typically helps. A lot.

I know I might seem hasty since I just joined here 2 days ago but I've been on the other site for over a month and haven't really been very successful either. I've noticed people tend to ghost a lot.

This is not so much an issue limited to duration of stay, it admittedly seems to be part of an issue where players are flightier than before. I can only suspect this comes in part from there being no real social consequence or expectations, @Laifan. As such, quality might be better than quantity. I would suggest to browse other topics and try to find another writer who seems active and tends to write in your direction of interest.

Your biggest problem is that you're expecting things to happen inside of 24 hours. You're new, untested, unseen, a big unknown. Furthermore, 24 hours is hardly enough time to tell if someone has ghosted on you or not. Even if you made arrangements for daily posts, shit happens, and sometimes it happens a day late. Can't really speak for other sites, as I don't frequent them, and I have no idea how you conduct yourself. I will say making a public thread asking why everyone ghosts on you doesn't score a lot of points.

But is there more you could be doing? Oh yes. Let's talk about your interest check. It's more bland than a milk and bread dinner. The first thing you open up with is a few vague bullet points, followed by some rather ordinary writing samples. While they might be honest of your writing capabilities, they are peppered with grammatical errors, and most will assume this is the very best you are capable of. After that we have a very, very, very, very, very, very, very narrow list of pairings that you are interested in. Then you're brazen enough to request better grammar after presenting those writing samples "For the love of all that is holy." There's very little to catch the eye, and the entire check feels like it was made in less than ten minutes. it doesn't really convey the image of a hard working, reliable poster who's going to stick with their RP till the end.

Look at some other interest checks. Write clearly and concisely what you want. The minimum legal age is different all over the world. Just say you're thirty/twenty-seven/eighty-four. GMT timezone would have a lot more meaning if we know the hours you were available in "GMT." If you're going to insist on such few fandoms, maybe give other people the freedom to play a character they want to play outside of your ideal boy toy. It also helps to remove negative language, which can discourage people. Don't say you won't write with people with bad grammar, instead insist that you like to write at a "casual" or "advanced" level. Do all of this...

...and you'll still need more than 24 hours to get a hit. And even if people do bite, they could still ghost on you. Telling people not to ghost on you doesn't stop them from doing so. You could also join someone else's check. your extremely short time on the guild might make some cautious of you though.

@BrokenPromise

Thank you for the advice. I've actually edited my post several times to make it more concise as someone else suggested quick, to the point listings might be better.

I'll look for another approach then!
