Monsters and Men: A One Universe Comics Presenation

Leonardo/Raphael/Donatello/Michelangelo

the
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

Powers And Abilities: The four brothers are mutated turtles, giving them anthropomorphic features and the size of humans. Their mutations has also given them enhanced strength, speed, agility, dexterity, endurance, and durability. Being turtles, they can spend significant time underwater without breathing and have incredibly hard shells.

Thanks to over a decade of training with Splinter, the four are masters of ninjutsu. They are exceptional hand-to-hand combatants, weapons experts, stealth masters, and tactically skilled.

Origin And Backstory (In A Maximum Of Four Paragraphs):

One deep, dark night in Japan, hundreds of years ago, a fearful warrior known as Oroku Saki was defeated. His dream of a shadow empire in Japan, controlled by his Foot Clan behind a puppet regime, was smashed by the emergence of the Tokugawa shogunate. But Saki, known as the Shuredda, was shrewd. He had plans should his plans fail. He disappeared from the world, while the Foot found a new place in the world, where it waited for the perfect time to reemerge.

On another night fifteen years ago in a rainy, busy New York City, a canister of chemicals labelled "TCRI" fell from a truck and shattered on the street. The oozing, glowing liquid inside washed down a sewer grate and into the sewers below. When it did, it came into contact with a rat and five baby turtles. The ooze coated them, and as it did, it began to rewrite their genetic code. It gave them human-like forms and intelligence. The rat, known as Splinter, being much older than the turtles, took on his role as their adoptive father. He named them from a book he found on famous painters. Leonardo, Raphael, Donatello, Michelangelo, and Artemisia were his world. The rat had memories of his life before the mutation, even if they were faint. From these memories, he trained his children in the ways of ninjutsu, in preparation for a threat he did not recall.

Five years later, the small, weird family was above ground, in the city, scavenging for food. While they did so, a van full of men abducted Artemisia, and attempted to take the rest of the turtles as well. Splinter and the boys were able to fight them off, but not before they got away with Artie. While the family was heartbroken, they did eventually take in a mutated arctic fox named Alopex, who had no idea of her origin.

Eventually, more mutants in the city were located, led by alley cat Old Hob. This group, who called themselves the Mutanimal Liberation Army, was dedicated to protecting mutants from humans. Alopex, swayed by their cause and feeling like an outsider in the family, joined with the Mutanimals.

Now, the Turtles and New York were about to face their greatest threat. They would have to fight like they never had before in order to survive...and save the world!

Sample Post:

The sound of fists hitting a heavy bag echoed dully through the dojo, as the lone figure struck the training tool over and over again.

His hands were taped up from above the wrist all the way down to his knuckles, but the repeated punches still bruised and broke the green skin underneat the protection. He was in the training room too much. He knew it, Leo knew it, and Master Splinter definitely knew it. He wasn't even training. Not really, anyway. He was just in here taking out his frustrations.

He had too many frustrations.

He was mad that they barely ever left their home. He was angry that Master SPlinter, after all these years, still would not tell them why they were training in the ninja arts. He was pissed off because Leo never asked the questions he needed to. He was frustrated that he wasn't allowed to do more to help the humans above.

But most of all his was furious that his father ignored the fact that their sister had been missing for the better part of a decade.

It was all getting to be too much.

His brothers shared some of his concerns. They were all better at hiding it, in different ways. Mikey pretended to be dumb, aloof, and a clown to mask the fact that he's torn up about Artie to this day. Don threw himself into his tinkering and reading to mask the fact that he's uncomfortable with all the combat Splinter seemed to be preparing them for. Leo focused on a mission he doesn't know the goal of in order to pretend that he had a purpose. They were all broken in some way.

How could they not be. They were mutant turtles gifted human intelligence and amazing abilities by a random accident. They were bound to be messed up in the head.

"You are troubled, Raphael."

The soft, almost melodic, tone of Splinter's voice carried over the relative silence of the dojo. It was a sound none of the turtles had heard in days. Ever since the red moon, Splinter had been alone in his room meditating. Over what, they didn't know, but here he was.

Raphael turned to see the tall, slender, human-like rat standing in the door, leaning on the cane he always had with him. These days, his dark, chestnut-brown fur was tinged with more and more grey. He may not have been as fast as he once was, but he was still wise beyond his station.

He made his way to the center of the room, and sat cross-legged before motioning for Raphael to join him.

As the young turtle did so, he asked, "Master, it's been a while."

The rat sighed, and the fur around his mouth ruffled, "There was much to think on, my son. Too much. For too long I have kept our family here. For too long I have believed we were safe. That we could be happy cut off from the outside world whenever possible. I believed I was training you, but for what I was never sure. Until the blood moon. Until I remembered."

Splinter trailed off, staring into the dark corner of the dojo. Raphael, on the other hand, had a chill run through him. He had never heard Splinter talk as he was. It was almost as if he was scared. Even when they lost Artemisia, he kept his calm about him.

"Master?" Raph asked with a quiver in his voice.

His father looked down, his warm, brown eyes meeting his adopted son's. He smiled, "I'm sorry, my son. It is time for us to have an increased presence on the surface. We have hid for too long, and I fear it may have allowed our enemies a foothold we could have prevented. NOw we must ensure they do not get more."

"Enemies, father?" Raphael asked, almost with an intense hunger. He had been training for so long. It was time to show what he could do.

"I will explain later when Leonardo returns," his father smiled clamly. "He is visiting your sister in her new home."

"Alopex," Raphael said, his eyes narrowing.

Usagi Tsukino

Powers and Abilities
  • Transformation
With the Brooch for the Moon Kingdom Usagi can transform into a warrior named Sailor Moon. When Usagi is Sailor Moon she is able to use a Moon rod called "Eternal Tiare".
Usagi can also transform with the aid of a pen. It can change her into anyone she can imagine. She also gains general knowledge while transformed. Such as if she changed into a librarian she'd have general librarian knowledge. This knowledge only lasts as long as she is transformed. When she changes back she only has her own knowledge.
  • Eternal Tiare
This is a Rod from the Moon Kingdom. It allows Sailor Moon to use the energy of the Silver Crystal to either destroy or Heal.
  • Teleportation
As Sailor Moon Usagi with the aid of Sailor Mars, Mercury, Jupiter and Venus can teleport. Even with their combined power they can only teleport Earthside. They require outside assistance, usually in form of energy, to make it off planet (e.g. to the Moon). Even with the other four scouts they cannot go further.
  • Silver Crystal
Is a powerful Moon artifact. It's a vast energy source. It is sometimes perceived as the most powerful. It's limits however have not been determined as far as Usagi knows.

Origin and Backstory
Usagi is a reincarnation of an alien named Princess Serenity. Princess Serenity was heir to a technologically advanced alien race that lived on the Moon. The origins of the Moon Kingdom, as they called themselves, had been lost to time. All that is remembered is that they came to Earth's solar system with the Silver Crystal. They cultivated the Moon and turned it into a paradise. From the Moon they watched over Earth protecting it as it advanced. But peace would not last and Earth attacked the Moon. Using dark powers the Moon Kingdom was destroyed.

Serenity's mother, the Queen, used the last of her strength to take the last of her daughter's life force and send to to Earth where one day it would be reincarnated into a girl named Usagi. Usagi Tsukino was born to a wealthy family. She had no memories of her past life until a curious talking cat came into her life. Said talking cat, Luna, convinced the young girl to fight as Sailor Moon. Over the next few years Usagi found friends in the rest of the Sailor Scouts and love with Mamoru also known as Tuxedo Mask.

Over the next few years Usagi would fight the forces of evil. Both from Earth and not. Most of the attacks would try Usagi far past what she thought was capable; Pushing her to rely more upon herself and the powers of the Silver Crystal. These experiences as Sailor Moon would help shape her from a young, immature crybaby into a mature, steadfast leader. This year Usagi is determined to take a well deserved break by visiting her fiance in the US.

The Powerpuff Girls!

Blossom, Bubbles, Buttercup

Powers And Abilities:
The Powerpuff Girls have superhuman strength, agility, and durability making them extremely tough. Perhaps most impressive is their ability to fly without any assistance at potentially supersonic speeds. Aside from their general powers each girl has their own unique skills. Blossom has an ice breath ability, Bubbles has a supersonic voice plus the ability to communicate with animals and in other languages, Buttercup has heat-vision and is able to curl her tongue. While each is strong on their own their true power is when they can work together to take down their foes, or survive a night at a high school social gathering.

Origin And Backstory:
Professor Utonium was a genius scientist who had it all, wealth, fame, and his beautiful wife, Anna. He was working on a new substance that seemed to have the remarkable ability to transform and strengthen anything it came in contact with; however the effects were unpredictable to say the least so his testing was limited to say the least. As the chemical was a complete unknown variable he decided to name it Chemical X like the much used Algebraic variable in math.

His inventions brought him great renown and fame but his happiest moment was when he learned that his wife was pregnant with triplets. Doctor Utonium was over the moon with joy and all his colleagues could say he was the happiest man in the world, but then Anna got sick and started to deteriorate. No doctor could help her so the distraught doctor could only come to one conclusion, he had to bet it all on Chemical X. As he prepared a batch of the stuff however one of his lab monkeys managed to escape from his cage and having a bit of a sweet tooth and being a kleptomaniac, swiped sugar, spice, and random nice things he could find. The doctor chased him around but while he did, the monkey dropped his items which fell into the vat, broke a small vial of storage chemical X for small testing purposes and escaped the lab.

The doctor had no time for another batch and the Chemical X already absorbed the items, leaving the doctor no choice but to use the contaminated batch in a desperate attempt to save his wife and his children. After drinking the batch, Anne fell into a deep sleep for a while but seemed to recover somewhat. Soon afterward, she gave birth to triplets but died in the process due to complications. The triplets however were quite lively and strangely enough had quite different appearances to each other, so much so that Utonium could only attribute the differences as a byproduct of the Chemical X. He named his daughters Blossom, Bubbles, and Buttercup in memory of the things Anne loved and somewhat secluded himself from the rest of the scientific community so he could focus on raising his daughters more.

As they grew up he began to notice strange things happening with his daughters, floating off the ground, picking up heavy objects without breaking a sweat, rarely bleeding, once even setting the curtains on fire by staring at them too intensely. Quickly the doctor had to teach them self-control so they wouldn’t accidentally destroy the neighborhood. Once the girls had become twelve, strange crimes and events starting happening around them and before long, the girls were thrust into battle when Doctor Utonium was kidnapped by his previous lab monkey, Mojo Jojo in order to get his hands on the Chemical X formula.

The girls quickly tracked down the evil monkey and defeated him, saving their father and giving birth to the dynamic superhero team, the Powerpuff Girls! Currently the girls are fifteen years old and just starting high school where they try to find balance between their normal lives and superhero ones. It won’t be long before they’ll have to save more than just their town, maybe even the world!

Bumblebee

Powers and Abilities
Bumblebee belongs to one of the smallest of the standard protoform molds, offering him less physical strength and lighter frame in exchange for an increase in speed and agility; this made him an excellent candidate for reconnaissance, courier and espionage duties during his tours on Cybertron. Decades of fighting the Decepticons have sharpened his skills as a scout, spy, and combatant. His standard armament includes his signature 'Stingers', a pair of handheld, rapid-fire blaster pistols that can tear through opponents at close range while still being threatening at medium ranges.

His current transformation is based on a Volkswagen Beetle, both because its similarly sized to his original Cybertronian form and because his human protector, Daniel Witwicky, owed a defunct version of this vehicle around the time Bumblebee came under his guardianship.

Origin And Backstory
Cybertron, once a shining hub of civilization in days long past, now floats through the cosmic sea as little more than a husk of its former glory. Its people, the Cybertronians, fought among one another for the dwindling resources that remained on their world. Two factions rose to prominence during the conflict, eventually dividing the entire population into either of the two sides: the Autobots and the Decepticons. Their civil war leveled what was left of their home, and the dwindling survivors of that centuries-long conflict were forced to flee that barren place. Many habitable worlds were chosen for colonization, though those that showed the capability to seed Energon- the primary power source of all Cybertronians- were given significantly increased priority.

One of these worlds was the tiny ball of water and dirt called Earth. The Autobot colony ship known as the Ark made its way toward Earth, captained by the paragon leader of the Autobots, Optimus Prime. His presence aboard that particular vessel attracted the attention of Lord Megatron, the Decepticon's tyrannical ruler as well as Optimus's nemesis and former friend. Megatron and his crew attacked the Ark en-route, and the ensuing battle cost both sides many lives. Both the Ark and the Decepticon's flagship, the Nemesis, were so irreversibly damaged that each was forced to make a crash landing on their destined world. The Nemesis and its surviving crew were lost at the bottom of the ocean, while the Ark was lodged up somewhere in the Andes mountains.

Both remained inactive and hidden away from the world for an indeterminant amount of time until a pair of hikers happened upon the Ark by pure chance. Word got out about its existence, quickly reaching the ears of a mysterious organization within the U.S government known as the Earth Protection Force. The EPF deployed its agents to secure the extraterrestrial vessel, discovering it to not only be empty but that its crew was missing and presumably hiding out somewhere beyond the Ark itself. A massive campaign was started to locate these missing aliens before any other nations could do the same. Those that were captured were locked away in secret to be studied and exploited for their technological advancements. This exploitation was seen as...ethically questionable by a number of members of the EPF, including Captain Daniel "Sparkplug" Witwicky, a former Combat Engineer in the USMC turned EPF technician and security personnel. Knowing that complaining about such issues was a good way to be 'disappeared,' he conspired with a number of other personnel in the unit to work against the organization from within.

This eventually led to Witwicky and his cohorts commandeering a convoy containing the captured Autobot known as Bumblebee. After escaping the wrath of the Men in Black's pursuing squads, the defectors chose to split up and go into hiding, all but one of them 'pretending' that they'd been the ones tasked with protecting and hiding Bumblebee. In reality, Captain Witwicky was the one that took on this responsibility, retreating away to a ranch in Western Colorado where he's remained under the pseudonym of Amundsen for the last twenty-five years. Bumblebee remains hidden in plain sight, acting as the Amundsen family's Volkswagen buggy and under the assumption he's the last living Cybertronian on the planet.

Son of Light, Mega Man

Powers and Abilities:
As a state of the art support android turned into a soldier, Mega Man possesses advanced problem solving skills, which make him far more than ordinary soldier. His methods may not always be clear, but they pull him through, time and time again. The Variable Weapon System, also known as the Weapon Copy System, allows him to use the weapons of his defeated enemies, which while originally intended for purely mechanical opponents, namely Robot Masters, improvements to Mega Man's systems allows him to gather combat data on his opponents who may not give a Special Weapon on defeat normally, and, in the right hands, can be processed, and if lucky, produce a new upgrade for Rock. Faster, stronger, smarter than the average human being, Mega Man fights with the force of many, to protect those he cares about. His primary weapon, the Mega Buster, is powered by the same energy that fuels Mega Man, compressed solar energy, making the young android a clean engine of salvation for the masses.

Origin and Backstory
Amid all the magic and science of the world, there was an American Scientist, known as Doctor Thomas Light. Alongside his German partner Doctor Albert Wily, the two pushed the cutting edge of robotics, in an attempt to create the first true artificial intelligence. This eventually would culminate in the completion of Blues, or the first Doctor Light Number. However a fault with his core resulted in Light wishing to shut him down to repair his son, only for Blues to flee the lab, leaving Light heartbroken, and Wily fuming. (This bit is based on a fan film explaining Rock and Rolls design) Wily would leave, while Light began to resume his work again on his own, working many long hours, fueled by the memory of the woman he had loved and who had died about a decade prior. But after many months of work, he succeeded in completing Rock and Roll, a pair of androids designed to assist him around Light Labs, to be his children, and to be Blues' siblings if the wayward son ever came home.

All the while, however, Wily fumed and schemed, the mad scientist driven to jealousy that turned to potent rage. For whereas both had worked together hard, Light had always gotten the respect that Wily craved, and eventually, it grew too much for the German Doctor, and he snapped. All the while, Light created six more androids, which he dubbed his "Robot Masters" which were also the result of Wily's works, and intended to present them to the world. And so he did. And Wily, cast off one last time, due to his "unethical" work in robotics, decided to make Light pay. In the dead of night, Wily snuck into Light Labs, stealing the six Robot Masters. Elec Man, Guts Man, Bomb Man, Fire Man, Cut Man, and Ice Man. The next morning, Light and his children woke to the city they called home, San Francisco under attack, and Wily to blame. All hope seemed lost.

But Rock made a decision. Requesting that his father upgrade him into a fighting robot, Rock, now calling himself Mega Man, became outfitted with the Copy Chip, and the Mega Buster. Ready for battle, the young warrior set off, the hopes and dreams of his father riding on his shoulders, and a fire in his heart, to protect innocents from Wily's sins. One by one, each Robot Master fell, Bomb Man, then Guts Man, then Cut Man, then Elec Man, Ice Man, and finally, Fire Man. All that remained was to confront Wily. But Mega Man was no monster, each action he took to protect the very Robot Masters he battled. For each one, he recovered their IC chip, which governed their personality, and took cares to avoid doing serious damage to them or the environment, in hopes of recovering his brothers later. However, before he could go onward, he was teleported back to Light Labs, where Doctor Light held him in a barrier for a time, to offer his reassurance, and show Mega Man he was losing control, before then letting his son go on, telling him that the passion he had as Mega Man was not placed there by Light.

With the data from the defeated Robot Masters, Light was able to locate where Wily had holed up, on an island off the pacific coast. And it was there, in the Wily Robot Manufacturing Plant, that Mega Man battled his way through the fortress, using the Special Weapons he had obtained, along with the previously discovered Magnet Beam, to reach Wily. Along the way, he squared off against the Yellow Devil, a blob whose only weakness was its eye. Defeating it, Mega Man found his brothers inside the fortress, and gave them a choice, to come home and be reprogrammed and restored to their freedom, or not. The resulting argument between the six robot masters allowed Mega Man to escape, only to run into his doppleganger, Copy Man. Eventually triumphing over his copy in a heated match, Mega Man was only able to watch as the six Robot Masters returned, destroying Copy Man, before Mega Man ran on to face Wily. And after a heated showdown, Mega Man defeated Doctor Wily, and instead of letting the mad doctor die, choose to drag him from the wreckage. With Wily arrested, and soon to be transported into Federal Custody, Mega Man was ready to power down, and hand his Special Weapons over to Light. However, Light informed the young Mega Man that while Wily was defeated, there were bigger problems to worry about. With revelations about the ongoing global situation, Roll made another decision, to help fight threats across the world, and protect innocents from danger, while receiving a minor upgrade that would allow him to gather data from non-robotic foes, for weapons crafting later. And so, with his first adventure behind him, Mega Man began his journey...to become the Worlds Greatest Fighting Robot, and safeguard mankind from the dangers at hand.
Notes: Yeah, I basically adapted the first story arc of the comics, hope that's fine, I misread max of four backstory paragraphs as minimum, so I tried to meet it. I can make changes as needed.

How Mega Man fits in:
While its overlooked to a degree I think by some, Mega Man is a hero with a heart, who fights not because he has to, but because he wants to. And given the feats he's completed throughout the games and comics, he'd be a good fit for the environment, plus, everyone needs a lovable kid who wants to be a big brother and fight with the cool kids. The minor upgrade I gave him is loosely based on the Copy-Scan system from Sonic, but without the whole "you gain all their powers and stats by doing this" thing that Neo Metal had. In other words, it just scans a target, obtains as much data as it can, and then when Mega Man gets back to Light, or another, he can be upgraded to use the data in some way. If we want this to be an upgrade obtained later in story from say Monarch or another faction, I can work with that. A further upgrade planned down the line would be a way for Mega Man to use more of the Special Weapons at once, without influencing his personality. Plus a small child kicking giant butt is always cool. And once he gets Rush, he'll be able to better handle threats.

Supporting Characters:
-Light Labs
Doctor Light, Roll Light, Elec Man, Guts Man, Ice Man, Fire Man, Bomb Man, Cut Man, Rush(to be built)
-Wily's Army
Doctor Wily
-Wily Numbers(In future)

Sample Post

It was a normal, every day morning in Light Labs. The day before had been the unveiling of the new Robot Masters that Doctor Light intended to help mankind, from building projects, to demolition, to helping manage power plants. Six Robot Masters, Six different roles. And for the young Rock, it meant that he and Roll had more of his kind to interact with, and he couldn't wait to see them properly in action. At least, that was what he had intended to discuss with Doctor Light...until he discovered the six missing from the workshop, and a worried Doctor Light standing there in the lab.

"Doctor Light...where did the others go? Did you already send them to work?" Thomas Light didn't respond at first, but slowly, with a deep sigh, he turned to Rock, shaking his head sadly. "No my son, they're not here, and it seems someone broke in last night, leaving them missing. I fear for whatever or whoever took them." Anything more was interrupted, as the young Roll ran up, terror on her face, yelling for the two to come look at the TV. And so it was, that as Light stared on in horror at the news feed of his creations causing havoc across the city, and Doctor Wily broadcasting a demand that the world surrender to him, that Rock's fists curled into anger. A passion in his heart building up, firing him up, and bare moments after Doctor Light said they were done for, that he grabbed his father's hand. "Not if I can do something. Doctor Light, I want you to upgrade me, so I can save them, and all those people."

Touched by his son's drive to save the world, Light agreed, and as the city burned, and Roll fretted, Doctor Light upgraded Rock. The first was an improvement to his power systems, to better process the energy outcoming, for the weapon to come. Next was the Copy Chip, the core of the Variable Weapons System, which would allow Mega Man to absorb the data of defeated robots, or receive new improvements to better fight. And finally, the Mega Buster was installed, a cannon that would change its form based on the Special Weapon installed. It hurt Light to see his son walk into danger, but he knew that this was his son's choice, a passion he had not installed, that would drive Rock, now Mega Man as he climbed off the table, and slipped his helmet on, to save everyone. "Don't worry father, I'll stop Doctor Wily, before anyone else is hurt, watch over Roll for me, let's go." And with a step, in a flash of light, Mega Man was transported away, into the battlefield that the city had become, vowing to fight...for ever lasting peace.

But soon after Mega Man left, did Light receive a call, his trembling hands answering, the voice on the other asking a question, before Light confirmed that yes, it was Wily behind it all. And that Rock had gone out to fight this. The voice on the end, surprised, asked what Light thought of all this.
"Though I fear for his safety, though the world gave me no child, I built one. I fear that he may lose this fight, but I did what I could, I made him in my image, after all. I just hope he can save them." The voice thought, then said he'd get in touch with Light when it was all over, that there were bigger things to worry about beyond Wily, that soon, Rock might be able to lend a hand to the world beyond the city. Light's heart sank, but agreed, knowing that the other was right. He just prayed...that his son would make it through.

Other:

Hope this is good! I did take some lines from "The Message from Doctor Light" at the end there, as it appeared in the comics to an extent. The Megas are great. If there's any changes I should make, let me know, alright? I figured the end of MM1 would be a good starting point for Mega Man to join the fray, as he's been battle tested, and has the courage to move ahead. This also leaves open the angle for someone, such as the GM, to control Dr. Wily if the need arises. All information in here is based on the wiki for Mega Man of Archie, along with grabbing some information from the Mega Buster and Special Weapon pages. Sadly, the MM entry on the Mega Man Database didn't have a list of his weapons and powers, but I tried my best. Enjoy.
