Oliver had been trying to mingle around the venue since Stella had kissed him. He had tried to find Raven, but it had seemed that she had decided to leave early. He could have sworn he'd seen her earlier, but hers wasn't the only face he couldn't find. The venue was starting to empty as people made their way to their cars. Standing up from his chair and tossing his cup into the nearest garbage can, he made a lap or two around the inside of the club looking for his date.

Fortunately, it didn't take that long for his eyes to find her. As he made his way over, it occurred to him that maybe Stella didn't feel the same way about the kiss that he did. Then again, he was the one that had initiated the kiss, right? Walking up behind her, Oliver gently tapped Stella on the shoulder, which caused her to tense up and jump only slightly into the air as she made eye contact with him.

”Hey Stella?”, he asked, his tone slightly shy. ”Are you ready to go?”

”Oh, it’s you, Oliver!”

She was relieved in a way. She hadn’t been able to find him so she ventured a quick walk to the parking lot, hoping he’d find her at some point. After her talk with Penny ended and she failed to find him, she gave up hope, but lady luck was on her side yet again.

Warming up to him with a smile, though it was clear on the way her smile was a little less as wide as it usually was. “Y-yeah. I think it would be best we just left,” she admitted, not yet engaging in the talk she knew she had to have with Oliver but it was so awkward and hard for her to be the one to bring it up. Maybe he would so she didn’t have to.

Always a gentleman, Oliver led Stella to the car and opened the door for her to get in. Making his way to the other side and climbing in himself, the young man began the journey to Stella's house after programming the GPS through the awkward silence. Thought swirling madly in his head, it took all of five minutes before he brought up the subject at hand.

”So… uh…,” he began before having to clear his throat, suddenly feeling parched. ”What was… why… Why'd you kiss me, Stel?”

There was a part of Stella that wanted to pretend he hadn’t said anything. She could play it off as not hearing him and just react absentmindedly. People say she did that a lot with her not being aware of it. So it’s not like it would be out of the ordinary. Anyone who knew the girl knew about her tendency to flake in and out of conversation. She sometimes lost seconds and didn’t know how it happened.

But that didn’t change how she suddenly grew a little quiet. And it seemed like lady luck decided she was taking a break because they hit a red light. Stella knew it wasn’t that far from her house. Three blocks and she was home free, but if this was how the ride home was going to be like, she knew she couldn’t just avoid the question. Something had to be said. “Would you believe me if I said I was aiming for your cheek?” She responded, looking at him. She knew it was a totally ridiculous response. She knew it in her mind. And seeing him look at her the way he was for a long moment, she knew he knew it too.

Stopping promptly at the red light, Oliver waited for her response, his hands gripping the steering wheel tighter when she did. ”I… yeah. Sorry Stella, but not really,” his voice sounding a little angry. ”I just… I'm not mad at you or anything, I swear. I'm just… a little confused. That's all.”

“Confused?” She repeated his word back to him. She was somehow finding herself feeling the same. “I’m sorry, Oliver. I just--” She paused again, seeing the shade of green hit the windshield. “Light’s green!” She announced, breathing out a small sigh of relief as car horns from behind them went off.

”Don't be,” he responded, still lost in a daze as the cars started to honk. Turning his attention back to the road, he took a deep breath before explaining. ”I… St…. Look. I'm gay, okay. That's why I'm confused. Because I've always liked guys and then you come along and I keep smiling at my phone like a fucking idiot and getting anxious when you don't text back. I adore that dimple in your right cheek when you smile. I'm confused because you're a girl. Not that there's anything wrong -... It's just that I've been really gay for a really long time and I think I like you, Stella, and it's confusing,” he explained, taking another deep breath.

The words had come out of his mouth in a nervous rush. Stella was the first person that he had actually come out too. Granted Martha knew, but she had just guessed. Oliver hadn't actually sat her down and explained it to her or anything. To say that his nerves were shot was a near understatement.

As he kept driving, Stella sat there as still as a pole, saying absolutely nothing and doing absolutely nothing. She couldn’t process it. Yes, the rumors were true. And all of the teasing Kavi had done to her had proven to be true, but there was also something else she knew to be true - something that, despite all signs pointing on way, a hidden path on the level of the game she seemed to be playing - had revealed itself to her and only her.

He liked her. Oliver Grayson liked me.

In her mind, she tried to come up with the right thing to say, but nothing she thought of seemed to be right. And what she felt was suitable for such a response from him never made it out of her mouth. Why was she having such a tough time trying to get a single response out? She honestly didn’t know and what was even worse, he had pulled up to her house. She looked to her house, seeing the lights still on and then she brought her nervous eyes to Oliver. How he must’ve been feeling since she said practically nothing.

She coughed a couple of times, looking at him again and still looked at him. “Oliver, I--” She stopped herself, the trembling sensation of anxiety passing through her body, already making her voice a cracking mess.

Why did she have to live so close to the damned country club? Attempting to swallow the lump in his throat, he shook his head. ”It's fine, Stella. You don't have to say anything. I uh… Unless you want me to walk you to the door, I guess I'll leave or whatever.”

She tried her hardest not to feel like she was in the wrong or that the kiss she gave him was what made the energy between them tense, but she couldn’t help it. It was because of the kiss that whatever was between them right now was awkward and it was because of everything that came afterward - her being swept away by Penny and then not talking to him immediately about it, her being as evasive as she could when he asked her a direct question - everything was, as Sonny might say, fucked. She wouldn’t use the word herself, but she knew of no other word that summed up what she was feeling about Oliver, about what she did.

It was fucked up and she hated it.

She gave him one more once over, choosing to smile as she shook her head. “I’m a little exhausted, but I’ll be fine,” she told him, forcing the widest smile she could. “I’ll..I'll text you tomorrow.” The words left her mouth without her even realizing it.

She had half of a thought to lean in and kiss him, but that would’ve been out of her own habit of how she liked to end dates or her just being genuinely friendly. After all that happened tonight, she knew that wouldn’t be a wise thing of her to do.

Stella opened up the passenger door and had a literal foot out the door, but then she turned around back Oliver. “You know, before the kiss, I was having a lot of fun. It had been a while since I had a date that didn’t end with me on the opposite end of rejection. So, thank you for that, Oliver,” she said to him, a warm, glowing smiling girl genuinely happy with her date.

Oliver let out a soft chuckle, the right side of his mouth tilting up ever so slightly into somewhat of a half smile. ”I really enjoyed tonight too, though I have to apologize for dumping all this on you. Who knows. Maybe we could hang out again sometime.” Watching her as she climbed out of the car, Oliver found himself with one last thing to say. ”Just promise you won't tell anyone? I… I haven't even told my parents. I know that people assume, and I don't blame them for it, especially considering that the assumption is correct. But I'm just not really ready for everyone to know quite yet. I… have some things to work out first,”

She looked back at him, nodding. “Of course! Your secret is safe with me!”

That was the last thing she said before she bolted for her house, clutch in hand and key in the other, the sound of Oliver’s car speeding off as soon as she made her way into her house.

Jordan was no therapist, but he was detecting a slight hint in Julie’s mood that she wasn’t too happy right now. Maybe it was the small beginning of a tear in the corner of her eye; perhaps the way her lips gathered slightly in a pout. Or maybe it was the way she had screamed “No! I sent him the fuck away!” in response to his question, grabbed his date’s hand and pulled the two of them away from the party.

It seemed his fate for the night was to simply be blown around by the winds of moody, tipsy girls. First trying to mediate Chanel’s showdown with the cup thrower, and now following Julie past the outskirts of the dance and onto damp grass as they headed towards a small grove of trees. He grinned slightly at the thought of someone looking at the trail of footprints they had left behind them- Julie’s high heels punching into the dirt as she stomped tetchily, followed closely by Chanel’s careful steps as she tried her best to keep nature away from her expensive shoes. He laughed silently at her expression every time her foot slipped slightly and dirtied the side of her heels.

Soon they had left the bustle behind and reached an area of relative isolation. The two girls perched on a large rock, and Julie magiced a small bottle of vodka from her purse. Jordan simply sprawled out on the grass, his hands behind him and his head tilted back to look up to his companions. There was a slight dew that dampened his suit pants, but it was getting late and he was he was too tired to care anymore.

“I'm sorry I snapped at you in there, it's just…” Julie started, before breaking off her sentence to take a swig of the bottle. Passing it to Chanel, she broke into a long account of the troubles of her night. Jordan nodded and sighed or gave an astonished “No!” at the appropriate moments in her tale, gratefully accepting the bottle when it made its way around to him. Sometime around her recounting her ballet encounter with Sonny he sipped the last of the vodka and put the empty bottle beside him, spinning it round gently with a finger as his hazy mind lost track of Julie’s speal.

“So whatever, I'm done with this farce!” she suddenly announced, and Jordan snapped his head back up guiltily to focus again on the conversation.

“Sounds like a rough night,” Jordan commented, for lack of anything to say. A slow smile spread across Julie’s face as they made eye contact, and she began to speak again.

“Major snaps for your work on Mr. Mister here Coco. Could be we have a new contender for King's most desirable bachelor.” Jordan blushed lightly and couldn’t help a wide grin at the compliment. The two girls smirked at each other conspiratorially before Julie directed her attention back to Jordan.

“So now we only have the other half of the set to do over! Speaking of which…” Julie paused dramatically.

“What are your actual intentions with our sweet Bea?”

Jordan was speechless for a second, and his blush deepened into rosy cheeks. Chanel sounded scandalized as she took in Julie’s words.

“Beatrice Endive? We've been together all night, man. When were you gonna tell me you and Bea were a thing?”

Jordan clamped his gaping mouth shut.

“How did you know about Bea and me, Julie?” he asked quickly. “Or more to the point, what do you know about me and Bea?” he added, before turning to face Chanel.

“And I don’t know if we are a thing. I think you’d have to ask Bea about that, because at the moment it’s all a bit of a mess.”

It was no secret that he wasn't exactly the most liked guy. He didn't call the girls he dated back and when he did, he wasn't exactly the nicest about it. Kavi knew he wasn't perfect. Despite everything people said about him, he still thought he was a decent guy at best. He wasn't a jackass like Santiago. Now, if you were to compare notes, Kavi's misdeeds wouldn't even pale in comparison. All of the times he had let a girl down easy would be a blessing than how Diablo goes from one trash can to another. At the least, he could say that how he treated people was a step above Santiago Fernandez.

So, then if that was truly the case, why did Kavi not only get a full cup of punch tossed on him, staining his new suit, but after moments of having to sit with that, the victim of Ariel's mean right straight. He didn't understand it. Their date was great. He couldn't say much about the tease, Nadia, but he treated Ariel as nice as any man would, but apparently not telling her about his Friday plans last week was a red flag? Okay, Kavi understood that much, but did she really have to punch him? It wasn't like he had done anything to her tonight, well not texting her, but that was it! He did nothing to deserve such a brutal showing of her rage.

"Fucking A!" Kavi roared out.

His nose was a bloody mess. Slowly, drops of deep maroon permanently stained his suit. Pain surged through his entire face and his hair, which had been groomed with the perfect amount of gel and hairspray was effectively ruined and that wasn't even mentioning the crowd that had gathered around and near him. They must have been loving it. Yes, Kavi knew some of them and he knew they were satisfied by his current predicament. And why wouldn't they? Some of the faces he saw were the same ones that he tormented almost daily. He saw some of the nerds, the goths, and even the one he has, on several occasion, used as an armrest. You have to be loving this.

Kavi's foul mood didn't show any signs of dissipating as he let out a low grunt when certain onlookers gawked at him. It wasn't until he started to throw a tantrum, tossing over the beverages table, causing the crowd to disperse as if fleeing from a mad man.

"Mr. Salvador, are you okay?" Asked Mrs. Gonzales, one of the chaperones. She seemed concerned.

"I'm fine. go bother one of those losers." He pointed to the group of nerds eying Kavi warily.

She didn't seem convinced. "You're bleeding. Let me help you," she offered, approaching him.

"I said I'm fine. Just leave me the hell alone!" Came Kavi's erupting response.

And off he went, away from the chaperones, the dance, and just about everyone who was getting on his last nerve.

Kavi began walking towards the parking lot. As he was steadily approaching it, something hit him. He was leaving without April. "Son of a bitch!" He cursed, though it was far from being under his breath. He punched the wall next to him and on top of having a broken nose, his left index, middle, and ring finger knuckles were now bleeding. "This night can't possibly get any worse?"

"Kavi Salvador?" He heard a voice from behind him.

"Yeah, who's asking?" He slowly turned around and what he saw really made what happened to him no more than ten minutes ago seem like a welcome experience. What he saw in front of him was, as he ran the punch-moistened hair through his hand, the very definition of a sour apple on top of his shit pie. "Officer," he said as if he had accepted the knock-out punch coming his way. "How can I help you?"

"You are Kavi Antonio Salvador, son of Nikai Parata, owner of the Ferrari outside?" The officer asked him.

Kavi stood there for a moment. He was trying to figure out when exactly this night went wrong. Was it when he forgot to text both Nadia and Ariel? Or maybe it was egging Diablo on by dancing with his on-again, off-again April. Perhaps it was not being a better guy and indulging in some not-so-legal practices. Sure, he wasn't perfect, but surely his actions haven't brought him to this moment where he knew everything was going to change.

"I have a feeling you're going to arrest me, so I'm just going to say this now." He paused as he coughed, clearing his throat. "I'm not saying anything until I see my lawyer."

What came next was straight out of a syndicated episode of Cops: Kavi was forced against the very wall he punched, his arms were placed over his head as the cop searched him, and the cop proceeded to cuff him one wrist at a time while repeating the same old line all police officers say.

"Kavi Salvador, you're under arrest for reckless driving, fleeing from a police vehicle, and in possession of a stolen vehicle. You have the right to remain silent. If you give up the right to remain silent, anything you say can and will be used against you in a court of law. You have the right to an attorney. If you desire an attorney and cannot afford one, an attorney will be obtained for you before police questioning."

And throughout the entire time the police officer was saying that and walking Kavi down the walk of shame, he kept repeating the same phrase over and over again.

"I want my lawyer. I want my lawyer. I. Want. My. Law. Yer."

In response, Kavi was placed in the backseat and the police car he was in took off. It left the Crown Heights Country Club and Kavi Salvador had a personal police escort to the Palm Beach Police Department.

What a cherry topper to a magnificent night, right?

Even after the bombshell April Foster had just dropped on him, Santiago Fernandez didn't so much as flinch. The two words that could shake any man to the core had done nothing to wipe away his confident, golden boy smile. This wasn’t the couple’s first rodeo with pregnancy scares- and all they ever did was sent them panicking for no good reason. It wasn’t out of the ordinary for April to miss her period whenever they had some sort of big fight: stress messing up her hormones or something like that. Yup, that’s probably what was going on. Just another one of those false alarms. Nothing to even sweat over.

“We've gone down this road before, Lils. Your period's probably just running late again. It wouldn't be the first time it's happened.” he said confidently, shrugging off her worries. “You know it always gets screwed up when we have a big fight.”

“No, Santi… This one’s real.” April said softly, as she reached down to her purse to retrieve her phone. With a practiced hand, she flipped through it before arriving at a set of three photos. Three photos of positive pregnancy tests, each image with dates edited into them. She scrolled through each of them, giving Santiago time to clearly look over each one. “I can feel it. I had to get my dress adjusted because of it and everything.” she added, taking Santiago’s hand and placing it over her abdomen. The bump was just barely noticeable, but it was certainly there.

Diablo’s gray eyes had scanned the pictures carefully, looking for signs of any foul play but ultimately finding nothing. Not that he had expected to find anything in the first place, anyway. He knew in his heart that, no matter how badly she wanted them to be together, April would never do such a thing. Of course, there was this part of him that secretly hope it was all just a big, desperate attempt to get him to commit. But when his hand felt just how hard April’s lightly bloated stomach was, his blood suddenly turned to ice. He knew right then and there that this was no joke or false alarm…

He really was going to be a father.

What did you just say?” he croaked in an attempt to break the silence that threatened to drown him in his own racing mind, swallowing hard as he choked on his own words.

April reached down and took Santi’s hands in her own, looking him in the eyes. She took in a deep breath and gave him a gentle, nervous smile. “Santi, I’m having a baby… your baby… our baby.” The brunette squeezed his hands reassuringly after watching his expression change completely. This was a big moment for her, but the evening had been even bigger for him.

“Shit… I’m just…” he stuttered, the nervous hand that wasn’t on April’s stomach immediately jumping to rub the back of his neck. The contents in his own stomach began to bubble up as she watched his biggest fear become alive right in front of his very eyes. “Fuck, man. I don’t know if I can do this, beba.”

You don’t have to do this, we will do this…” April tried her best to sound reassuring, but Santiago was still looking positively scared shitless.

“Puñeta… Are you absolutely sure about… this?” he repeated, motioning to her stomach.

“I mean, unless my instincts, lack of a period in the last ten weeks and three positive pregnancy tests are wrong, I’m fairly certain. That and I may have thrown up on the side of the road on the way here today.” April couldn’t help but be a little bit of a smartass. She was trying her best to lighten the mood and help with the nervousness that the two of them were experiencing.

Once again, Santiago said nothing as he took a few steps away from April, letting the hand that had been previously resting on her stomach fall limply to his side. He began pacing back and forth absentmindedly, running his hands across his head and mulling through the reality of the situation. The only thing he was sure of was that he’d be heading to college on a full sports scholarship and then heading off into the army. The prospect of children had never been present in any part of his lifelong plan- much less in this particular period of time. And although he’d always been aware of the possible consequences of his actions, there were always a few times in his life in which Diablo thought with his dick and not his head. What were the odds that it was in one of those times -so damn few that he could count them with the fingers on one hand- that he’d managed to knock up a girl?

Life was just being a big fat bitch to him.

Santiago stopped silently pacing after what seemed like a lifetime, and finally turned his attention back to April… The mother of his soon-to-be child… That sounded so fucking bizzare, even in his goddamn head. “Are you absolutely sure you want to go through with this, Lils? Because you don't have to have it…” he told her, and realizing how he might’ve been coming across he immediately added, “I'm not saying to not have it, by the way; I'm just saying there are more options out there than to just outright have it.”

“I am not going to ditch this baby just because we screwed up!” April cried out, her tone shifting to a slightly defensive one.

“Heyheyheyhey, that’s fine, that’s okay,” he shushed her, cupping her face with his hands and looking straight into her eyes again. “I’m not telling you to do anything you don’t want to, alright? We'll just- we'll just have to figure it out somehow.”

“Alright… April replied timidly. She may have looked mildly confident on the outside, but on the inside the brunette was absolutely terrified. What the hell would this do to her life? She had a plan and this hadn’t been a part of it!

“Santi...I’m scared. I...I don’t know what to do.” April’s voice was quiet as she spoke. Her warm brown eyes drifted down to the ground as she closed the distance between herself and Santiago, wrapping her arms around him and closing her eyes. She needed to feel that comfort and safety again.

Diablo kissed the top of her head again, and upon hearing her words, he scoffed lightly. “And you think I do?” he said sarcastically, hoping his jesting tone would give her the same comfort his arms were. “Beba, all I know how to do is wrestle, play football and sell pills; and that's not exactly Father Material if you ask me. I don’t know jackshit about kids.”

And just as she was starting to feel a bit better about the entire clusterfuck of a situation, the most terrifying thought of all flew across April's mind after Santiago’s words.

“Fuck! What the hell are we going to tell my dad?!”

A promising night turned into a total shitshow and, honestly, should Salem even be surprised? It might have been his teenage angst talking, but nothing ever seemed to go right nowadays. Salem dug into his pants pocket for the keys to his car before he even exited the country club so he would be ready to go. A big part of him was anxious, his gut roiling as his imagination ran rampant with what could make Marisol upset - and she was clearly upset, considering her text. Or perhaps angry.

It was a relief when he saw Marisol huddled next to his car - and of course, his heart broke when he saw the grief on her face... But at least she was safe and unharmed. He hurried over to the car as fast as he could, jogging slightly to approach to get to her even quicker.

“Marisol…” Salem tried to make his voice strong to be heard over the ruckus of the dance but it came out more throaty and strained. He tried again, “Marisol!”

Salem, the exact instance in which he arrived to her side, asked in a hushed but worried manner, “Are you alright?”

The girl whose attention he was demanding had been resting against the driver's side of the vehicle, staring off in the general direction of the ocean. The argument with Julie kept playing over and over in her head, which only served to infuriate her further. Frankly, she was tired of Sonny being painted as the good guy in this situation. The guy had picked her up, thrown her down and toyed with her feelings, yet she was the bad guy for ignoring his texts? He had completely dismissed her when, in what was perhaps her most vulnerable state, she had confessed her feelings for him. Yet, once again, she was in the wrong for choosing to cut ties with him for her mental health’s sake? Why did she have to get her priorities straight for a person who wouldn’t do the same for her? This whole situation was completely fucking unfair, and it was driving her insane.

It wasn’t until Salem arrived at her side that Marisol finally looked up, realizing he’d been trying to get her attention by asking about her well-being. “Not really, no,” she confessed, looking up at him with still-glassy eyes. “But I rarely ever am these days, so it's whatever…” Mari trailed off. She studied his features for a second and noticed her date was breathing much too heavily for someone who'd walked such a short distance. Upon further observation, Salem also seemed to be somewhat rattled and distraught. The girl's brows met together in a frown. “Are you?”

Salem frowned at her answer, his eyes catching the glassiness of hers. This damn dance was cursed or something, because nothing had seemed to go right so far. “Yeah, no, I’m fine...I just got into a little scuffle. Don’t worry about it.”

The last thing Marisol needed on her conscious was the brief one-sided fight between Salem and her best friend (or was it former best friend?). Salem’s blood boiled just thinking about that smug dollar store Peter Pettigrew and instead turned his attentions back to Marisol before his anger got the best of him again.

“I’m sorry this night has been bad for you.” Salem said, his voice sincere and sorry, “I really wanted your first official homecoming dance to be good...do you want to go to my place and watch a movie, then? I have a popcorn machine and both John Wick movies.”

The mention of a scuffle made Marisol's frown even more pronounced, curiosity peeking from the pissed-off feelings. There was only one person in all of King’s Academy that Salem could have reasons to get into it with, and that person was the very reason for her shit mood. And so, Mari decided to follow Julie’s advice in getting her priorities straight… Her priority was going to be her own damn self.

Completely dismissing his fight, Marisol focused instead on the lifeline Salem was throwing at her. The prospect of leaving this clusterfuck of a dance was a blessing in itself, but to finish her night chilling with the coolest dude at school and her favorite movies? There was no way she would pass up that opportunity.

“You should have come up with that idea earlier, Sal. Would have saved us a damn good amount of grief,” she said with a smile, straightening up from her previous position and walking to the passenger's side of the car. “Lead the way, then,” she ordered before sliding into the passenger seat and shutting the car door behind her. She wanted to put this dance behind her as quickly as possible; and the sooner they got on the road, the better.

The ride to Salem’s house (a humble word for the giant estate) was almost anticlimactic in how uneventful it was. Salem invited Marisol in, was the perfect host by offering drinks and food, and led Marisol to his room to watch the movie she raved about so much. The only place to sit was his comfy bed, but Sal never had problems sharing his bed - platonically, of course.

Salem was never much of an action movie person, but his nonna was fond of them so he had a couple lying around. It was fortunate that the Rivera matriarch was probably a bigger fan of Marisol’s favorite movies than the girl was (he was pretty sure the older woman has a thing for Keanu Reeves). Still, he tried to pay attention to the movie happening in front of him since it was something Mari really enjoyed. However, his brown eyes drifted frequently, sliding past the movie screen like a conveyor belt and landing on the comfortable-looking Marisol laying next to him on the bed.

Being in Salem’s room, in the coziness of his fluffy bed, had provided Marisol with the first good amount of peace since the night had started. The young man had been nothing short of a gentleman, making sure she was comfortable and content. However, the girl was sensing a shift in the mood: an unspoken electricity of sorts hanging in the air between them. Throughout most of the movie, she had spied her host stealing periodic glances at her. And while this had been flattering the first few times, Sol was getting increasingly curious as to the reasons behind it.

“Just because I’m still tipsy and my eyes are on the TV doesn’t mean my peripheral vision is impaired, Salem,” Marisol suddenly said, her voice nonchalant. The brunette shifted her body and attention away from the television screen where Keanu was currently making his entrance to The Continental, and onto the tall young man laying beside her. “You’ve been staring at me on and off for the better part of ten minutes now. You gonna tell me what the hell’s going on?”

“I don’t know what you’re talking about. Are you sure you’re peripheral vision is working right?” Salem teased, moving his arm around her back so he could wave it in her periphery from the other side.

Marisol rolled her eyes, but gave Salem a small smile. “I'm certain. Now, are you going to be a big boy and ‘fess up to what's going on, or will you pussy out?” she replied, giving him a light punch in the arm.

Salem grabbed her hand before she could retract it from the punch, holding it within his own two. Her hand was tiny in between his and weirdly soft. “There’s nothing to ‘fess, my little enchilada. I was just admiring.”

He hummed in contentment, laying back fully on his bed and keeping his attentions on her hand. It was relaxing to just play with them instead of letting thoughts of that night swirl in his brain till he vomited from sheer fury. Salem kept entwining their fingers together and releasing them, “You have really small hands. They’re cute. I didn’t know hands could be cute…”

The young woman couldn't help but let out a small giggle, grinning from ear to ear as she watched Salem play with her hand. Mari made no motion to move away, choosing to scoot closer to where the young man was. “Don't let them fool you, though: they can pack a punch,” she warned playfully, her green eyes on his face as she pressed her cheek to the back of his hand.

“Oh, is that so?” Salem grinned. Almost on its own accord, one of his fingers disentangled from her hand to stroke her cheek in the most gentle manner.

He liked seeing Marisol like this - all soft. It made him feel like he and her were the only people in the world; an Adam and Eve in their own reclusive paradise where no one else was allowed. His father and his girlfriend were not allowed, stupid Sonny wasn’t allowed, and…

Salem pressed his eyes shut and tugged Marisol into him with his hand until she was lying on top of him. “I’m cold and, as my homecoming date, you are honor-bound to keep me warm.”

“I’ll be glad to,” she said softly, tangling the fingers of both their hands together as she rested her head on his chest, the top of it tucked under his chin. Here, lying on Sal’s chest, listening to his heartbeat and feeling his chest rise and fall with every steady breathing he took, she felt safe.

The more time Marisol spent with Salem, the more realized that she was a completely different person at his side. There was no fear of being ridiculed, no need to hide behind hostility and abrasiveness, no worry of having her feelings be disregarded or questioned. She could be unapologetically herself with no hold-backs or regrets: vulnerably strong, gently passionate, and a million other oxymorons that she couldn’t even begin to explain. At his side, Mari felt at peace with the world… A feeling she could definitely get used to.

In that moment, against each other like this, Salem’s mind drifted to their almost-kiss. It might have been the alcohol at the time, but he felt the same need to be consumed by whatever this thing between them was now. It was like his mind was gone and only his heart was beating, thumping against his chest to the rhythm of Marisol’s breathing. As if his heart only knew Marisol, and only cared about Marisol in this moment.

Pushing a hair behind her ear, Salem shifted until Marisol toppled off of him, a trail of laughter following her. With her body laying beside his and her looking up at him, he grasped her chin and his eyes focused on her lips. For a fraction of a second, time was suspended. He didn’t move an inch, as if leaning forward would make this thing real - make this magnetic attraction real. His mind was buzzing with white noise, as if there was some logical reason to not do this, but he couldn’t hear it over the blood rushing in his ears. Like a switch, his mind stuttered and spurted until it clicked off.

And Salem kissed her.

When Marisol felt Salem's lips on hers, her breathing suddenly stopped, and the heart that was once beating steady now threatened to burst out of her chest. At first, she stood petrified against his lips, afraid that the glorious moment would come to an end if she moved. But when she was still savoring that intoxicating taste of spearmint with a hint of tequila a few seconds in, she knew that the moment happening between them was real as her existence. And with the same enthusiasm, Mari returned the kiss, tangling her fingers through Salem's dark waves and further closing the distance between their bodies.

This must be what drowning feels like, Salem thought, and then he thought this must be what breathing too much feels like. He felt as if he withdrew, if he stopped, then he’d die of asphyxiation. Kissing Marisol was intoxicating - kissing had always been intoxicating to Salem, he found nothing more beautiful than being connected to someone. Salem didn’t think he’d ever felt more connected to anyone before in his life... Not even Gwen.

Gwen.

Salem drew back and reality crashed unto him, threatening to drown him with guilt and disappointment and this strong, powerful yearning. “Fuck, Marisol, I’m sorry - I shouldn’t - fuck.”

People often said that, much like gravity, what what goes up must eventually come down. What Marisol didn’t expected was that the rise and the fall would be so sudden, and that it would sting so damn much. Salem had been different from every boy she’d met before, and she’d blindly trusted him so. Obviously, she’d been an idiot. But if she was honest with herself, in a way, she should have expected something like this to happen. This sticky situation was just a déjà vu of her incident with Jason Weaver in what felt like a lifetime ago. Had she not learned her lesson then?

Judging by her actions? Most definitely not.

Face blazing crimson and hot with humiliation, Marisol immediately shot up from the bed. “It's fine, Rivera, really. It's whatever,” she told him as she walked around the bed to slip on her shoes, her eyes fixated anywhere but Salem. “This was clearly a stupid fucking idea, and I should have been smart enough to stop it. And it's getting late, anyway, so I'll call it a night. See you Monday.” And with a curt, parting wave, Marisol turned on her heel and began to leave Salem's bedroom. She needed to get out before she lost it.

He knew everything about this was a bad idea. There were so many reasons not to do it: it’d hurt Gwen, it’d hurt Marisol, it’d hurt him…(his mom would say it’d hurt his GPA). It had been a while now, though, that Salem had felt this way, hadn’t it? When was the last time he’d felt this connection with someone? Had he ever felt it so intensely? Maybe there was once a time with Gwen, but he didn’t remember it now. Right now, he only remembered this, and the sweet taste of Marisol’s lips.

Words wouldn’t stop her from leaving, and maybe he couldn’t really explain everything running through his head with words. Still, it would have been more pragmatic to tell her to stop or to wait. Instead, he found himself grasping her tiny wrist in his hand.

She was so small against his body when he pressed her against the wall and she felt like a heater against the exposed parts of his skin. He wanted to feel that heat all over him, and he wanted to taste her lips again. He should stop, he has so many reasons to stop and think this over, because this was a bad idea. Marisol was the apple to his Eve and he wanted to -

Salem’s lips crashed against hers for the second time that night, and he poured everything he had into it. Maybe if he kissed her with as much passion as he could, she would hear his thoughts and understand that he wanted to sacrifice it all for her in this moment. In the morning, he will probably regret it… But it wasn’t morning now, and he wasn’t regretting a goddamn thing.

When she felt his hand on her arm, the angry Marisol had been ready to slap him away and storm off. But in no time, he had her pressed against the wall, and had his addictive lips on hers once more. No words needed to be exchanged for Marisol to know that whatever hesitations Salem had a second ago had been reduced to nothing more than ashes in the wind. He kissed her like a drowning man taking his first breath of air, making all of her anger evaporate into nothingness. A wave of longing washed over her now, and Sol basked herself in the feeling of being craved so desperately. Never in her mind had she wanted someone so badly… Not even Sonny Drake.

Without wasting any more time, Marisol threw her arms around Salem and passionately kissed him back, lips heavy with hunger and dripping with desire. It was her turn to make the young man understand she was willing to be his sin, and face the consequences that came with it with her head held high… To Hell with everyone and everything else.

The world had now faded off into nothingness, and her and Sal were the only thing that mattered. What had started off with an innocent kiss had now turned into something that went far beyond what words could possibly explain, and the desperate wanting shared was obvious in the way they so intensely went at each other. The emotions between them gradually intensified with every minute, until they were nothing but red-hot passion consuming them whole. Their hours together became a blur, with Salem and Marisol exploring each other’s bodies until the morning light.

Bea had to admit it had been a long time since she had smiled, much less laughed this much. Getting Archer to break through his white boy stiffness was grand fun! She had even gotten the boys to do a spin and dip in the heat of the dance. She hardly noticed the rose color on their cheeks afterward as she provided the next steps of the dance. Their joyful dance lasted shorter than she would have liked. There was a loud crash and a crowd gathering.

She followed along behind the boys but really couldn't see much. She could hear shouting from the center of the crowd and jeering from their peers. Her petite size made it impossible for her to see into the middle. Suddenly there was a break in the crowd for a just a few moments as Salem's fist connected with Sonny's nose. Bea winced as she lifted a hand to her own and rubbed it gently. She was honestly surprised a fight had not broken out sooner considering her classmates.

The crowd parted for Salem to leave and started to disperse when Sonny slinked off. She turned to look at her two dance partners. If she were the type to notice such things, she would have realized how nervous Archer was. Instead, he just began to ramble about being needed elsewhere. There was the kiss, a mild little peck on the cheek and a hug for Kavan. In a different world, she would have realized what that meant. She would have understood the odd look on their faces. Rather, she leaned backward as Archer bent down and forward to speak with her. Having someone's face that close was unnerving. "French boys? I don't... What does that-" Archer was gone. Despite the number of times she had watched the Titanic with her father's the quote had gone way over her head.

She felt a bit bad to admit it but she was relieved that Archer was not quite so close now. It was also now that some rusty gears started to spin in the tiny girl's head. Kavan's face was all ruddy, he stammered and was obviously in discomfort. "Do you have to take a shit or sumthin?" she said bluntly. Then she remembered the kiss on the cheek. "Wait..." It was all starting to come to her. Those gears were working through the rust. "OOOOH!" she said rather loudly. "Oooooooh... You're gay for Archer. Well, you're in luck I hear he's gay too. Hey, maybe you should go after him or sumthin. 'Stead of wasting time with me." Her face was one of open honesty and bland disregard for the decorum for these sorts of statements. "I'll be fine. Most guys wanna get laid after a dance anyway. And if you swing that way it certainly isn't gonna be me. I had the misfortune to be born without a dick." No blush. No sense of any real emotion played across her features.

Instead, her eyes roamed around the slowly emptying club. Where was Jordan? Bea hadn't seen him in quite a while. Surely he hadn't left, had he? Left with Chanel? Her heart began to thump painfully in her chest. It was like someone had punched her in the stomach at the thought. Oh god. She was dying. Her heart was all messed up and she was literally dying. She clutched at her chest as her breath came out short. "Uhm... I think I might need the hospital," she managed to gasp out as tears came to her eyes.

The moment her fist made contact with Kavi's face, Ariel instantly regretted it due to the pain in her own hand. Now the whole school was going to think she was insane - If they didn't already. Sure, Kavi was a douche. But did he actually deserve to have his noe broken, or was he just the most convenient way for her to take her frustrations out on her haywire nerves? All she was sure of was that Kavi was pissed, in pain, and a lot of eyes were now on her.

"Kavi, I -" she began as he flipped over the table, storming off. Face hot and eyes stinging, she stormed in the opposite direction to the girls bathroom. Rather the tears came from the pain in her hand, the embarrassment, or the simple fact that she had just punched Kavi, she didn't know. Most likely a mixture of all three. Before she could make it to the restroom, however, she was stopped by a teacher - Mr. Harris.

"Ms. Grey," he began. "May I ask what just happened?"

"I punched Kavi Salvador in his nose. Obviously."

"And, why, Ariel, did you do it?"

"Because for years he's been bullying people and treating girls like dirt, thinking that he can get away with whatever he wants. He's got a stupid, spoiled, rich brat boy attitude just like everyone else in this shit hole."

Mr. Harris raised his eyebrows at her response. "Regardless of whatever justification you may have, I'll be seeing you in the principals office first thing Monday morning. How's your hand?"

Glancing down to look at it for the first time, Ariel would see that her knuckles were turning odd shades of blue and purple. "It's fine."

The man nodded. "Go on to the restroom. Get yourself cleaned up. After that, well, I'm afraid you'll have to leave."

Ariel simply nodded as she continued to her destination. Look at it on the bright side. At least she had earned herself a ticket out of her current hell.

Mara's words were music to Victoire's ears, all too happy to get the fuck out of here. The night was a complete disaster, no one was happy, the dating arrangements just served to piss everyone off, and of course, nothing of importance happened. Following the blonde's lead, she only looked to see Kavi go berserk on his way out, rolling her eyes. Yeah, she wasn't going to stick around to deal with that, the staff could go ahead and handle it. Either she'd just go home and go to bed or spend the rest of her night bashing her head against the wall in an effort to knock herself out until tomorrow.

As she trailed behind Mara and considered the third option of crashing at her place, she was stumbled into. As she fully prepared to unleash her misaimed wrath on the poor soul, she wasn't the least surprised to find her own brother had been the culprit. Before she could properly chew him out, she was hit with the scent of alcohol.

"Vic, take me home," He grumbled at her, and she noticed a rather bright, red spot on his cheek. Likely someone above him who had rightfully put him in his place.

"Oh no, no, no," Victoire immediately shut down the idea, shaking her finger before pointing it at him. "You're just going to hit on Mara the whole time and say dumb crap, and believe me, I am beyond my stupidity tolerance for the rest of the weekend."

Lucas threw his head back, exhaling a whine. "Come on, Vic, there's no way I'll make it home like this. What if I get into a crash and die? You want that on your conscience?"

"So you are shit faced," She didn't think it was possible for her to be even more disappointed, but there he was, proving her wrong. "So much for 'I know my limits'."

"You know, for once, I actually don't know how it happened," Lucas mumbled, shaking his head in an attempt to clear his head. "But um...please take me home."

"Nope. You got yourself into this mess, get yourself out of it. Goodbye and good night," She dismissed him, pushing past him as he grumbled something about his 'boy' and staggering off in another direction. Paying no mind to him, she instead caught up with Mara and sighed. Stupid dance.

Coming back inside had been a mistake. He’d lost track of his date quickly in the whirling lights and dancers, and had ended up looking lost around the drinks table. His only constant companion was the cup of punch in his hand as people dropped in for a drink and a quick chat before dipping out again to rejoin the dancing. He felt almost in a dream, sidelined in what was supposed to be one of the biggest parties of their senior year (He’d missed Diablo’s big bash a month earlier). Normally he would be right in with the rest of them, dancing and drinking but tonight it was the last thing he felt like doing.

Through heavy eyelids he watched the events of the night- Sonny and Salem’s rather one-sided excuse for a fight; Kavi getting caught out on his double-timing; Chanel and Lucas’ confrontation. He even saw and heard the less public moments of romance, although it seemed that only the gays had been getting any action that night. Declan had smiled at the sight of Kavan and Archer’s little moment, and the smile grew when he saw Oliver Grayson kissing Stella. He’d have to follow up with the boy on that one- his gaydar had pinged on meeting him and he’d given Declan no reason to disbelieve it over the years.

Yet as he watched the night’s events, the wallflower felt no motivation to move. With one eye on the large wall clock on the opposite end of the hall and his mind imagining the scene of his graduation, the time passed very slowly. As the hour hand ticked closer to twelve the punch bowl suddenly grew more inviting. The dance was still chugging along but the crowd had slightly thinned, leaving the drinks table rather empty. Perhaps a little more liquor would keep him sane for the rest of the night.

The punch burned his throat as he drained the cup and he coughed. What the hell at Chanel put in this stuff? Yet he kept drinking, almost on automatic he saw his hand go out for the ladle for a refill, over and over and over… how did the level keep going down in his cup? It must have a hole in the bottom or something. Maybe more punch would clear his mind. He was feeling slightly dazed and with a moment of clarity realised just how drunk he was.

The only feeling that overpowered his drunkenness was a sudden burn in his stomach, and he lurched to his feet as he felt the acid rise in his throat. His head swum with the sudden movement and he almost fell, rescuing himself by balancing a hand gingerly on the table. Declan stumbled across the hall to the glowing toilets sign and pushed through the swing door of one of the cubicles, dropping to his knees as he dry heaved. His head was banging like a drum, and he thought back with regret at all those cups of punch.

His vision blurred over, before blacking out entirely as he slumped mercifully into sleep.



A painful rapping sound woke Declan from his slumber. He raised his head painfully from where it had lay balanced on the toilet seat and looked back with bleary eyes. A guffawing cleaner stood at the entrance of the bathrooms knocking the end of his broom against the door.

“Feeling alright there, son?” he asked with a twinkle of laughter in his eye. Declan merely moaned and struggled to lift his head over streaks of vomit. The pressure mounted behind his eyes and ballooned into a headache as he strained to stand, before rushing over to the sink. He splashed refreshingly cold water on his face before tilting his head down to gulp from the stream of water.

Declan left the cleaner in the bathroom and stumbled through the main hall. The party last night had left it in an absolute state and a small army of janitors worked to restore it’s previous pristine condition. He snorted as he spotted one down on his hands and knees scrubbing at a trail of blood, remembering Ariel’s sweet jab to Kavi’s nose last night. He passed the punch bowl on his way to the exit and drew closer, but the fruity smell that had enticed him hours ago now only turned his stomach.

The sunlight outside stabbed at Declan’s eyes and he scrabbled at his pockets for his sunglasses. It seemed that he had left them somewhere inside, but at the moment turning around to look for them was the last thing he wanted to do. He instead fished his phone out, noting just one missed call from Max as he powered it on. Instagram was full of pictures of Homecoming and he managed a cracked grin as he recognized a blurry version of himself in the background of some of the more popular kids photos.

His tortuous journey across the bright carpark ended as he flung himself into the front seat of his car, lowered the visor to block out some sun rays and breathed a sigh of relief. The Homecoming nightmare was over, but now what?

The morning Estelle Lambert had was not a fun one. She had gotten home close to midnight last night and almost immediately after she had gotten out of the shower and she got into her Nostalgia Jammies (her words) of Bubbles from the 90s Powerpuff Girls cartoon series, she had fallen asleep.

From the time between her waking up only six hours later, she had a dream. It wasn’t just the run of the mill dream that she always had, which that is to say she usually drempt of things that were happy-go-lucky (much like Stella herself) or something that happened recently. It was during the six hours, she found herself inside a beautiful palace and in the arms of someone, she couldn’t see. A bright, yellow light had blocked most of his face. All she could make out was how she felt completely safe in his arms. She hugged to him as if her own life depended on it. And he embraced her just the same, though it was with a gentle touch. He was taller than her, but she never felt like she was small compared to him. As she took to his form for a comforting embrace, the sounds of a peaceful, serene, and somewhat romantic arrangement of a string quartet and a piano played as they slowly waltzed across the ballroom.

“Stella., I love you..”

His voice made every inch of her body tingle with a nervous appreciation, causing her to hug to his body even tighter and tighter and..

THUMP!

Stella’s rude awakening came in two parts. The first being the unwelcome sight of the cold hardwood acting as her temporary bed, her blanket and pillow over her head, blocking the bright sun from penetrating the blue and yellow pillow casings and comforter she was forced into wearing. Part two was the loud musings of her ironic alarm that was singing to the tune of Walking On Sunshine by Katrina and the Waves.

“Sometimes I hate the world,” Stella mumbled to herself, fighting (and failing) to free herself from her pillows and blankets.

After a long five minutes of being forced to hear the same “I’m walking on sunshine” hook almost twenty times. At this point, she was tired of it and yelled at the top of her lungs. And wouldn’t ya know it? That was just the strength that she needed to break free of it. It was, at that very moment, did Stella wake up to the sight of her entire family looking at her. Her cousins, who were just as amused as her aunt, uncle, and parents, were laughing through their hands over their mouths.

“You okay there, Stells?” Winnie asked.

After spending a moderate moment of pouting, she simply nodded.

“Good. Now get dressed, sweetie! We leave in thirty!”

Without even an opinion from the rest of her family, let alone her, Frank, her often impatient father, had made his demands. And for the next three hours, she would be a walking zombie, barely existing in the backseat of her father’s Van as they saw her Uncle Wesley and Auntie Florence depart for the one-way flight from Miami International to Paris. She wished she could go to Paris. That had always been her dream ever since she did her ancestry project in her Junior year and found out she was half-French. Being able to soak up the family heritage was something deeply passionate to the teen.

As it was close to ten, Stella and her parents got back into the van and they drove off. Not even ten minutes on the highway and her father, who was behind the wheel, spoke up. “So, Stella, tell us how did homecoming go? Was Oliver a gentleman like he said he would be”

She froze in her seat, sinking into it as she avoided her father’s curious gaze through the mirror. And her mother saw this. In an attempt to save Stella from Frank’s typical embarrassing behavior, she decided also speak up.

“Frank, dear, you can see Estelle is quite tired, can’t you?”

“Can’t. I’m driving. I can’t take my eyes off the road.”

“Then do just that. In silence.”

Her mother’s tone was quite cold as her father uncharacteristically perked up and didn’t utter a single word. Stella knew her mother had what most called kryptonite. Her cousins from her mother’s side of the family often spoke about the Ice Witch of the Monroe Family. He always assumed they meant her Grandma Chelsea, but right now she knew it was about her mother, Melissa Monroe. She didn’t need to say thank you. She knew her mother found joy in making her father squirm. So instead, she relaxed and took out her phone. She sent two text messages. The first to Oliver, which read.

Hey, we had an early morning. My family had to drive my father’s sister’s fam. Omw back. Hope ur morning was good. 💗💖💗💖💗

And the second was sent to Penny.

Hey girl! We just left the airport. Shuld be there in an hour. Ill be over when we get settled. Cant wait to talk about last night. 💗 💖💗💖💗

Shortly after sending that second message, Stella had fallen asleep with her phone in hand to the sounds of her mother’s berating of Frank’s grandma speeds he called normal driving speed.

"Hey, it's Mari. I'm fucking busy right now, or I'm ignoring you. So miss me with that voicemail gay shit and just shoot me a damn text. It's not that hard to fucking text someone, 'k? See ya." the words of Marisol's voicemail rang out from Archer’s phone for the fourth time. “Or you can answer your fucking phone” he muttered in frustration shoving his phone back in his pocket. The young man had already scoured the whole dance without even one sighting of his best friend or her date. After a quick call to her brother that confirmed she wasn't home either. Archer started to get worried, his concerned eyes scanning the parking lot for any solace.

The only thing he found were Abigail Grant, a girl that also frequented the surf shack so you could call her an acquaintance. Archer shrugged seeing he had nothing to lose and sprinted over.

“Hey Abbie! Have you seen Mari?” he asked as he came closer. The girl was laughing wildly at something her date had said as she turned, eyes glanced over: she was high as a kite.

“Archie! Where have you been all night?!” she thought for a moment before exclaiming “Oh yeah I saw her leaving with that snack for a date of hers!” she took another puff of her dates joint. “You should join us dude!” she gestured towards the two of them.

I'd rather die! he thought as he politely declined walking backwards towards his car. Rolling his eyes hard as he turned his back on them.

As soon as he reached his car he took a deep breath. At least she wasn't alone and in relatively safe hands. Before starting his car he sent her brother a text asking him to keep him updated. Then he left the dance and a surprisingly pleasant evening behind him.



Not drinking the night before was a great decision. Archer opened his eyes around 9 am feeling fresh and well rested. Getting out of bed felt freakishly easy, was it maybe what he had planned for later in the day he mused as he trudged in to his bathroom for a quick shower before he went downstairs for breakfast.

At the breakfast table his mother kept glancing at her son. After a few minutes of this the boy estarted to get irritated. “Is there something on my face?” he asked not taking his eyes of his bowl of cereal.

“No, I was just wondering how your night went yesterday. That they paired you with Ariel was such a stroke of luck! You guys were always so cute together!” she cooed. “Did you end the night like a gentleman? Give her a little kiss?”

Archer looked up at his mother with disbelief splattered all over his face. He sat blinking at his mother “Yes, and then I magically turned straight and took her back here and we made sweet love all night. She's actually still up there right now.” he said in a a bored monotone voice.

This made even his father snort in to eggs behind his Sunday paper. Even though it was more at his son than with him. His mother became visibly flustered “No I… I- I meant…” she stuttered.

Archer smiled at his mother and patted her on the shoulder as he stood up. “I know mom, I'm just joking. I know it's hard to give up the dream of having two ‘All American sons’.” he said putting his dishes in the dishwasher. His father cleared his throat and peered annoyed at Archer over the top of the newspaper. The boy took this as his que to leave rushing out of the kitchen and bounding up the stairs in to his room. There he spent the rest of the morning reading in his big bay window until his phone vibrated beside him.

"Need to see you. Meet me at the shack in 10."


Archer rolled his eyes. This was top tier Mari: Nice and Cryptic. At least he now knew the damn girl was alive.

Jun’s homecoming experience was admittedly pretty tame, but part of that was due to the fact that he showed up late and decided to not start trouble. As tempting as it would be to make a mockery out of the whole function, Jun had the most fun stressing out Victoire leading up to the dance. Every single time she asked him a question about homecoming through a text message he responded in vague, cryptic gifs and images. Essentially, he memed her rather than giving her a straight answer. He wasn’t sure what was more entertaining: using his experience in drama class to make a hysterical scene in front of their classmates or giving her no straight answer through text after she postured her way to get his cellphone number so they could communicate without interacting with him directly. By the end of Homecoming, the only real interaction he did at Homecoming was occasionally make eye contact with Victoire and wave. The best part was how the prim and proper class president turned tail as soon as she saw him, wanting absolutely nothing to do with him.

Jun was convinced she was either too pissed to deal with him – or too afraid of what he’d do to make a fool of her if she humored him. The asian-american teenager wasn’t sure which conclusion was funnier.

The question amused him so much he decided to give Victoire one last text message before they mutually deleted each other and never talked to each other again. It didn’t take him long to pick a gif that struck the right chord with him. He just hoped it annoyed Victoire as much as it amused him.

“Well, that was fun.” He said out loud as he walked down the stairs in his parent's two-story home in Crown Heights.

Jun liked Sundays, and today in particular felt like a nice break after all of the stress of Homecoming. He had no particular plans for the day, no anxiety of studying last minute for some big test or event. If he wanted he could’ve decide to drive out to The Gardens, but he wasn’t too keen on the idea considering the distance from Crown Heights to Juno Ridge when he didn’t really want to buy anything from the upper class shopping center. Outside of giving Marisol, Kavan, or someone else a call to hang out he figured the only thing he could do was what he usually did.

That being, do absolutely nothing and see what he could do on his guitar.

Before he did that however he was going to drive out and grab something to eat for lunch.

Sunday mornings at the Wallenberg estate has always been a great big event. It is the only day that both Magnus and Alice had the day of. So it had always been of the utmost importance that the whole family ate breakfast together. The Wallenberg boy was shining with his absence at the dining room table. Max was spending his morning happily snoring away sprawled out on his bed. The young man had spent the homecoming night with his date, some literary chick named Beth Clemens. Max had been bored with the dance pretty quickly and had decided to take his date out to the beach instead.

Max had literally no interest in his date when they announced the pairings, but he figured he would make the best of it. So when they had left for the beach he put his charm on the unsuspecting Beth. They spent the night together under the stars before returning home in the wee hours of the day.

A loud guttural snore echoed through the room and out the doorway where Max’s little sister Astrid stood with a look of disgust on her face as she looked around at the state of the room. She bent down and gingerly picked up a gym bag and holding it at an arm's length before throwing it at the sleeping beauty.

As the bag hit him Max shot up into a sitting position looking around groggily. “Hello?” he asked trying to get his eyes to focus. “Astrid?”

“Wake up you ogre. Mom wants you downstairs in five.” She muttered in annoyed tone before turning on her heel.

Max groaned as he stretched and rubbed his eyes trying to get the sleep out of them. He quickly got dressed and bound down towards the dining room where his family sat waiting for him. “Morning!” he greeted joyfully as he grabbed a piece of bacon and slumped down in his seat. His father chuckled and shook his head while his mother looked at him with a pursed smile.

“You had fun last night a take it?” His mother asked.

Max took racked his brain “I think so” he said as his face broke out in a huge smile. His sister rolled her eyes and sighed.

“Judging by the trail of wet sand leading up to your room. Maybe a little too much fun.” Alice continued raising her eyebrows at her son awaiting his answer.

“Uh… I think we ended the night at the beach! Probably.” Max laughed as he chewed his bacon.

His father echoed Max laughter laying his hand on top of his wife's. “Come on honey. He’s young, let him have his fun.” he turned to his son with a wink, which Max returned. “So what are you doing today my boy?” he asked as they all dug into their breakfast. Max shrugged as he shoved his food into his mouth.

“Probably head out to the gym” he said between his chews.



After a post breakfast nap of 2 hours Max was ready to face the day heading out the door of his family’s villa. He hopped into his car and drove away without any actual plan. As he drove he jammed out to his favorite spotify list, looking for something to do. Soon enough he had driven as far as the Surf shack. Parking his car outside of the small restaurant he decided to get one of their amazing sandwiches.

As he entered he was hit with the heavenly smell of fryer grease and coffee. Max took a deep breath and smiled at the other patrons. He recognized a lot of the people from school, he greeted them all as he made his way over to the counter.

“What can i get ya?” the jolly waitress asked as he sat down on one of the bar stools. Max screwed up his face in thought as he decided. “I’ll go with the tuna melt this time thank you!” the young man exclaimed! As he was waiting a girl yelled something about a fight which sparked Max’s interest. But as he was about to move closer to know exactly what fight they were talking about, his sandwich arrived.

When he had payed for his sandwich he headed back to his car and drove of again. This time he headed to his favorite spot. A small cliff looking out over the sea, a spot he always went to when he had time just to himself.

The sound of wave crashing against the rocks and the sandwich made his hangover ebb away. He laid back on his elbows taking in the sun and the fresh air. Max grabbed his phone from his pocket.

Hello devil boy, you alive? Where did you end up going last night? You disappeared after April dragged you out of the dance. Did she finally end it for good?


He sent his boy the text and laid his head on his bundled up sweatshirt closing his eyes and listening to the soft music emanating from his car.

While the majority of the population of King’s Academy was nursing hangovers, drowning in regret or simply gossiping about the shit show that was the senior Homecoming dance, the members of the CLDS’ Senior Elite Team had just arrived home after a tough competition weekend. They had attended Shake The Ground’s Regional Dance Competition, participating with three solos, two duets and one group dance. Kellie Anne Nicholson had been awarded one of the solos and was a participant of the group dance. By the end of the competition, she had walked away with the overall high score solo of the day thanks to her ‘flawless technique and heartfelt performance’ as the judges put it. The routine, performed to the tune of Haley Reinhart’s ‘Undone’ was about the experience of losing love, the pain it brings, and the feelings of sadness sprinkled with regret and helplessness. It was, appropriately titled, ‘Max’.

Still savoring her victory, a jubilous Kellie Anne arrived at her home clutching her trophy and overnight bag. Smiling, the young woman placed her prize on one of the available spots on her Victory Shelf, dropped her bag by the foot of her bed and threw herself onto the mattress. After a few seconds of simply rolling around the bed after being away, Kellie pulled out her iPhone from her jean shorts’ back pocket, unlocked it and began to scroll through her social media apps. First had been Facebook, where she laughed out loud to the latest memes and caught up with some of the tea of Homecoming. Next had been Instagram, where the multimedia evidence of her classmates in the best and worst moments of the night was plastered all over the profiles of the attendees. Finally, Kellie hopped on Twitter, where she knew the real tea would be spilled.

For better or worse, she didn’t have to spend too much time scrolling down her feed when a tweet mentioning a familiar surname caught her attention:



Kellie Anne tightly pursed her lips together, brown eyes reading over Beth’s tweet over and over until the suggestive words became nothing but a blur. The sounds of the world faded away into white noise as the first wave of tears hit her, running fast and hot down her cheeks. She took a few seconds to stare at the ceiling, trying to blink away the tears, the images of Max and Beth doing all the things she and he used to do together, and the painful feeling of her heart shriveling up like a decaying rose. Taking a deep breath, the young woman wiped her face with the sleeve of her sweater, and felt another pang in her chest when she realized she was wearing Max’ favorite ‘Asgard Fitness’ hoodie. Letting out a growl of frustration, Kellie violently tore the hoodie off from her body and threw it towards the furthest corner of her room, watching as it hit the wall and slid down to the hardwood floor. And with her heart breaking all over again, the girl curled up in the middle of her bed and began to sob.

A stray ray of bright sunlight peeking through the blackout curtains shone directly on Marisol Castillo’s face, signaling the arrival of a new day. The sudden brightness in the sleepy green eyes eventually nudged the girl awake, rubbing her off in all the wrong ways. Letting out a loud groan, Mari threw a lazy arm over her face and rolled over, hoping to establish herself in the center of her bed and continue sleeping. However, her movement was stopped short when she collided with a dense figure on the opposite side of the bed. Frowning, the brunette opened her eyes to find herself staring at the broad, tanned back of a male, still fast and deep asleep as confirmed by his deep snoring. And based by the messy, neck-long waves and the mole on his shoulder blade,there was no doubt in Mari’s mind that the guy sleeping beside her was Salem.

The girl’s frown became more pronounced as she suddenly sat bolt upright, green eyes darting around the room. No matter how much she rubbed at them and frantically searched around hoping for a sign that this was all a dream, all she found was more evidence to suggest it wasn’t. As her mind slowly woke up, fragments of the past night slowly trickled into the young woman's memory, eventually coming together to piece the heated scene. A tingle washed over her as she remembered Salem’s hands all over her petite body, her skin on fire at their every contact. Her body had savored the young man's every touch, caress and kiss, engraving the moment in her memory forever. They had loved each other well into the night, until their bodies had finally given way, and they’d both drifted off into complete, sweet, and utterly blissful sleep.

“Holy. Fucking. Shit.”

Trying to be as quiet as possible as to not disturb her date, Marisol slowly slid off the bed and tiptoed to the bathroom. Doing the walk of shame was already going to be humiliating enough, so she figured the least she could do was try to wash away the hair spray, the slept-on makeup and the last night’s sins under a jet of warm water. Eyes shut, the brunette had just taken the small steps to stand directly under the steady stream when the glass door leading to the shower slid open. Letting out a surprised gasp, Mari’s eyes snapped open as she whipped around to find herself face to face with Salem himself. The two stared at each other in starstruck awe for a few seconds, both sets of eyes greedy and hungrily taking in the tempting sight in front of them. Finally, their bodies met halfway, and steam covered up the tiled room as Mari and Sal became prisoners to their own desire once again.

To say that things after that were awkward was an understatement. While Mari requested an Uber and looked around the room for her scattered belongings, she and Salem faced the reality of the situation: they had gotten carried away in the heat of the moment and made a mistake.On his part, he had cheated on his beloved girlfriend Gwen, thus breaking the trust she had placed on him when they first began dating. On her part, Sol had done nothing to stop the events from unfolding, and had happily -and very willingly- participated in them, being well aware that Salem was a taken man.

Although she didn’t say it out loud, Marisol was of the belief that the blame of the past night was not to be split halfway, but instead more of a 75% Salem, 25% her. In the green-eyed girl’s defense, he had been the one to kiss her first. Once he’d had that little meltdown of regret, she had tried to leave the danger zone, and he had been the one to pull her back straight into it. Still, there was no use in playing the blame game. The truth of the matter was that they had, without a shadow of a doubt, hooked up. Both Mari and Sal admitted it was wrong, and made a pinky promise to each other that, although it had hands down been the best night of their lives, they wouldn’t succumb into temptation again.

The Uber Marisol had summoned arrived just as their conversation came into a close. Like the gentleman that he was, Salem escorted her all the way down to the front door, where he decided to seal their time together with one last passionate kiss before seeing her off. Head still spinning with both the raging hangover and the heated exchange, the short girl took the passenger seat of the vehicle and left the scene of the crime. At some point along the way, she sent out an SOS for Archer to meet her at their favorite spot. She knew he would be less than thrilled with the news, but she was still excited to confess all of her sins to her best friend.

“There you go, sweetie.” The plump waitress had said as she put down the glass of iced tea on Archer’s table, snapping the boy away from his book and back to reality.

“Thanks, I’ll just have the usual- actually, make it two. She’ll be here in a second and she’s probably going to need it,” he said with a smile as he handed her the menu with a wink. The waitress nodded and sashayed away. The young man had been sitting at Marisol’s and his reserved table at the Surf Shack for a good 20 minutes, waiting for his best friend after receiving the cryptic text from her asking him to meet.

No sooner than the waitress had walked away, a stranger of short stature and petite frame was stealthily approaching Archer’s table. The questionable-looking individual was clutching a sparkly handbag, wearing white vans and an oversized gray hoodie that hit mid-thigh with the words “I NY” emblazoned in the front - a strange combination considering the particularly warm October afternoon in Crown Heights. Without a single word, the unknown person took a seat in the seat right in front of Archer. And when their hoodie was pulled back by small hands with a bronze-colored manicure, the tall young man found himself staring at the big green eyes of his best friend.

“Hey Archie,” Marisol croaked in a hoarse voice, giving the room a quick once-over as if afraid someone would recognize her before looking at her best friend again. Although she smelled and looked like she’d just stepped out of the shower with the damp brown hair and freckles on full display, the dark stains of mascara and eyeliner were still visible under her eyes. “What’s up? Did you have fun last night?”

The boy closed his book and took a sip from his tea before opening his mouth. “Well…” he started, his eyebrows high in his face as he surveyed his small friend. “Not as fun as you had I imagine.” Archer smirked, pointedly staring at the sweatshirt. “I thought you hated New York?” he asked, cocking his head to the side.

Marisol, who had grabbed Archer’s iced tea and was sipping like her life depended on it, stopped dead in her tracks. “Oh, this?” she said dumbly, looking down at her choice of outfit for the day. A blush began to creep up on her cheeks, and she let her hair fall in front of her face to avoid Archer noticing. “It’s not mine. I actually borrowed it from a friend.”

“Oh, I know” he said, leaning back in his chair. “I just needed to hear you say it.” Archer whispered smugly.

“Hear me say what?” she asked, looking up at Archer with a playful half-smile. They both knew what the other meant- but for them, it was always fun to beat around the bush a little to build anticipation.

The boy cleared his throat before leaning forward on his elbows. "I've done the math. Lover Boy and Sonny had an testosterone fueled brawl at the dance. So when I couldn't find you and you didn't answer your phone, I called your brother, and he said you weren't home. And now here you are... Wearing, uh, that. So putting one and one together... " he clicked his tongue, nodding his head towards the girl.

“Wait, WHAT?!” Marisol cried out louder than intended, nearly choking on Archer’s iced tea and earning their table some annoyed, disapproving stares. The girl paid them no attention, though. Her wide eyes were locked on her best friend’s face, looking for any signs of lying. When she found none, she continued. “You’re saying Sal and Sonny had a fight?!”

The boy smiled as the waitress came back with their plates of burgers and fries, along with a drink for Mari and a refill for Archer. He dropped his voice down to a whisper. "Oh? Homeboy didn't tell you? Yeah: Salem punched Sonny the fuck out… Pretty satisfying, if I say so myself. I can imagine Torvald deserved it. But it was pretty one-sided." Archer’s face lit up. The boy was enjoying himself way too much considering the current situation. “Wonder why he decided to keep that tidbit from you?” he fake-mused, fully knowing why.

The young woman was quiet for a long while, biting the inside of her cheek. She vaguely remembered her and Salem speaking about a scuffle, but the alcohol had hazed out most of the past night’s memories. This little scene must have happened while she was waiting for Salem to meet her outside by the car. Had she known those two were going at it, there was no question she would had definitely jumped in to do her part. But, in a way, it was better than she’d been shielded from the truth. Nothing good would have happened if the Sonny cloud had rained on their parade.

“We slept together,” Mari suddenly blurted out, pulling down the collar of the hoodie to show Archer one of the many love bites she had all over her body: the evidence of last night’s lust-fuelled crime. “He probably knew telling me would kill the mood and make things worse… Which I really appreciate. Last night was just fucking amazing.”

Letting out a dramatic gasp of shock that was only half fake, Archer clutched his imaginary pearls. “You harlot! Nice one, Mari. How does it feel being a mistress?” he cackled, throwing a fry at his friend.

“Oh God, don’t remind me…” the brunette groaned, grimacing as she remembered the framed picture of Salem and Gwen lying on the floor next to the bed. The furious rocking of the bed had somehow hit the bedside table long and hard enough for the picture to have slid off it and crashed to the floor, its protective glass shattering everywhere... But not loudly enough to stop Salem and Marisol from what they were doing. “I feel so bad about the whole thing, but at the same time… I kinda don’t? Salem was the one who started it. I just… went with it. And it was just so fucking amazing... It’s really hard to feel guilty about having mind-blowing sex with someone.”

“Spoken like a true adulterer.” Archer said as he took a bite of his burger, casting a mindful look at Marisol as he chewed. The boy swallowed and continued. “I mean seeing as your only other experience is with Torvald, I imagine your mind being sufficiently… blown.”

Marisol let out a cackle of laughter. “Fuck you, Archer!” she said cheerfully with a smile, taking the lone fry he’d thrown at her earlier and returning the favor. “Let’s forget about Sonny for the rest of our lives and focus on the present. And Mr. Salem Rivera... Fuck, man. You should have seen it, Archie: it was like a king-sized burrito the size of a footlong,” she told him, using her hands to emphasize her statement. “I don’t know how I’m able to be walking straight right now, to be honest with you.”

“First of all: 100% gross! Second of all: do you not think I already know this? We’ve been to the beach together! Wet bathing suits are my specialty!” he wiggled his eyebrows at her while Marisol laughed in between bites of her food. “More importantly.” Archer dropped his voice down to a whisper again, concern staining his voice. “How did this morning play out when you both had sobered up? I mean… he and Gwen are like practically married. He can’t be as excited about this as you are? Right?” In these few weeks he had known Salem, Archer had begun to see him as somewhat of a friend, and this situation just reeked of a friend divorce.

The green-eyed girl’s cheerful demeanor suddenly became clouded at the memory of her and Sal’s last conversation before she’d made her exit. “We were both pretty torn up about it, honestly. We agreed it was wrong and that it shouldn’t have happened and that it wouldn’t happen again,” she confessed, going silent for a few seconds before quietly adding with a smug half-smile, “It wasn’t bad enough to stop us from going for a round two when he walked in on me in the shower, though, so I guess he’s not feeling too guilty about it.”

“Classy, Mar,” he rolled his eyes before finishing of his burger. “I’m guessing we need to keep all this under wraps, then?” he gestured wildly with his hands.

“Would be greatly appreciated,” she said, though her last mouthful of burger. “The last thing I want is for our favorite person to get wind of this, spread it around and make a mockery out of both of us.”

Archer made a zipping motion over his mouth flicking away the imaginary key. “So what’s your plan for the rest of the day? You need me to drop you anywhere?” he asked while wiping his hands with a wet wipe. “As much as I like to hear about you getting dicked down, I actually have plans...” he smirked as he handed his credit card over to the waitress.

That last sentence caught Marisol’s complete attention. “Ooooooohhhhhhhhh!” she cried out in a teasing tone, wiggling her eyebrows suggestively. Do you now?”

Holding up one finger as he signed the receipt for their meals, the brown haired boy retorted. “See, what we're not going to do is jump to conclusions! I'm going over to Kavan’s because I need to cleanse myself from all of this-” he gestured dramatically towards his friend again. “And I, unlike you, can keep it in my pants!” he continued as he stood up from the table.

“Sure Jan,” Mari said smugly, still looking at Archer like she knew exactly what his naughty little mind was thinking even though he was trying to play it off. “Because I’m supposed to believe you guys are just going to sit around having tea and biscuits while reading pretentious little books, right?”

No. Obviously we’re going to have a gangbang and simultaneously orgasm. We're not children, Mari…” Archer rolled his eyes as they pushed their way out of the restaurant.

The shorter girl let out a loud whooping noise and took the chance to slap Archer’s ass. “That’s the spirit, Archie-boy! You go get him!”

“Do you want a ride or what?!” he said, digging for his keys in his pants pocket as they approached ‘The Blue Danger’. Frankly, he was growing tired of his friends newly found sexual prowess, and had decided to change the subject. “I expect you want to change out of that.” he looked at her from the corner of his eyes stifling a chuckle.

“Not really, no,” she admitted, cheeks reddening the slightest bit. “I actually like this hoodie, thank you very much. It’s cozy and it smells like Sal.”

Grimacing he opened the car door bending down to throw the usual wreckage of composition paper and books from the passenger seat back behind it. “Whatever, dude…” Archer sighed as he gestured for her to get in. The day hadn’t properly started and it already felt like it would be a long one.

As if homecoming wasn't bad enough, the hours leading up to the morning after were.

Ariel was greeted with the sight of her father sitting on the porch steps, the sleeves of his dress shirt rolled up to his elbows. Trillian met his daughters gaze, nearly stopping Ariel in her tracks, but still, she walked forward, stopping a few feet from him.

"Serafina," he began, his voice stern. "Can you explain why I got a call from the Salvadors telling me you had broken their sons nose?"

"I - because -." Lost for words, her throat dry, Ariel could think of nothing to say. Her father walking over to put his hand on her shoulder helped nothing. He leaned his face over, burying his face in the top of her head as he took a deep breath.

"My sweet, sweet girl. Why is it you've only ever caused your father trouble, eh? Come on, let's go inside." When she refused to move, he gave her a gentle push - or what could only be considered gentle for Trillian Grey. Turning to lock the door behind him, instant panic rose up inside of Ariel. "Why'd you hit that boy," he asked, walking over to stop in front of her.

"Dad - it - I... It's really hard to explain."

Her explanation had helped nothing.

"You're a proper lady, Serafina. I raised you to be a proper lady. Ladies do not fight. Ladies do not hit people," Trillian said, hitting her across the face.

As she turned to run away, Ariel knew it was a hopeless cause. Her father grabbed her by the arm, pulling Ariel back towards him. A already long night, turning even longer.

The next morning, Ariel had to be at work. She had taken extra care applying her makeup this morning as to cover the bruises. The last thing she wanted was for customers to ask questions. Sadly, she couldn't cover up the few on her arms, or the small one on her neck. She could just blame them on sports. She had done it her whole life, and people had never known the difference. Broken arm? Fell off the bike. Broken leg? Soccer practice.

Work flew by, though she wasn't sure if it was a good thing or not. Saying good bye to her boss and clocking out, she most definitely wasn't ready to go home yet. Driving aimlessly down the road, she would find herself at Kavi's house. It surprised her that she still knew the directions. Ariel had only ever been here for a handful of school projects.

Oh well, she thought. I'm already here. Might as well make the most of it.

Ringing the door bell, Ariel was greeting promptly by one of Kavi's siblings - Nikki, if she remembered correctly.

"Can I help you?" The other girl asked, slightly suspicious.

"Can I speak to Kavi please?"

"Sure. Come on it. I'll go get him for you."

Walking inside the house, Ariel stood at the bottom of the steps, careful not to touch anything as she waited on Kavi's arrival.

"There, there, you're fine, you're fine..." Nadia continued to rub Lucas' shoulder, trying hard not to laugh as he let out a melodramatic groan.

"I don't know what happened," He muttered, shaking his head as he gripped the sides of the toilet, tensing as another wave of nausea hit him. "I'm not a damn scrub, I've won several drinking contests, this is bull--" The last word was punctuated by Lucas abruptly depositing whatever his stomach still had, the boy coughing and wheezing at the end of it.

Nadia winced slightly, but it seemed to be over, confirmed as Lucas would finally stand, heading straight for the sink. She walked out of his bathroom, taking a seat on his bed and listening to him mutter to himself. Ever since last night he had a bad time, spending most of it on the floor of his bathroom. If it hadn't been for her own late arrival to the house, she probably wouldn't have noticed, only catching him after overhearing a prayer coming from his room. She ended up sleeping in his bed, waking up to check on him. She probably should have been tired, but maybe she was getting used to taking care of people.

Sonny had been a surprisingly good patient, or at least, as good as he could have been. By the time they had departed, she had all but forgotten about Kavi, instead content with the night and then tending to her poor future step-brother. She hadn't messaged Sonny yet, but she figured he had enough to deal with and wasn't in any real rush; if he wanted to talk she was available, if not, then they would see each other in class.

In the meantime, she watched Lucas drag himself out from the bathroom, throwing himself onto the bed with another muffled grumble. Gently stroking his hair, she gave him a smile. "Want me to get you something for your stomach?" She asked him.

"No, I don't want to throw up again," He declined, turning himself towards her. "Thanks."

Nodding, Nadia perked up as the door opened, revealing an already up and running Victoire. Completely ignoring Lucas, she sighed in relief as she spotted Nadia. "There you are, I was starting to think you actually went home with that idiot," She said, shaking her head. "What, did his car break down or something?"

"We went to the hospital, he was hurt," Nadia frowned. "Nothing broken, thank goodness, but it needed to be tended to."

"So you actually spent more time with him than necessary? Did you cut off a priest in traffic and need the good karma?" Vic asked in disbelief.

Lucas chuckled before burying himself in his blankets, whipping out his phone. "I'm more interested in Marisol's reaction, though I thought I saw her leave with her Homecoming date," He said, fingers working as he shot Diablo a quick text to see if he was alive.

Huh? Nadia raised an eyebrow at Lucas' comment, shaking her head. "We're just friends," She said, frowning.

"Do you think that psycho cares?" Vic scoffed at her. "Did you see what she did to my car?"

"That's 'cause you were a whore--OW!" Lucas didn't get a chance to finish his taunt before Victoire stomped over to him and punched his shoulder, causing him to wiggle himself towards Nadia. "What?! It's true!"

"I was drunk and he came onto me," She snapped.

Nadia and Lucas looked at one another, although they wisely chose not to comment on that. Instead, Nadia continued, "Well, like I said, we're friends. He did a good job making me feel better, and, well, if Marisol really does have an issue, we can just talk."

"You're fine, you're so cute and innocent Marisol would feel bad about stomping your teeth out," Lucas said. "Speaking of stomping, what happened with Jun? Barely saw the guy, I thought he was going to do something good at the dance."

Already feeling her headache returning, Victoire threw Lucas a glare before looking at her smart watch. "He managed to annoy me plenty without me having to see his face. I'd be impressed if it didn't piss me off so much," She admitted. "Now that I know Nadia made it home, I'm leaving, going to spend the day at Mara's and apologize for all the stupid shit you said in the car."

"Tell her I said 'thanks for not abandoning me like my bitch sister'--AAHHH! OWWWW!" Victoire immediately jumped onto the bed, managing to deliver several punches onto Lucas.

The rays peaking through the blinds in the window of the beach-adjacent house at the end of Via Los Incas were relentless. Doesn't the sun know it's a Sunday? It could take a break from being so annoyingly peppy. In a queen-sized bed adorned with plush pillows and light linen sheets, nothing was providing respite from the light. So in an act of surrender, the 18-year-old girl rolled out of bed, rubbing her shoulder blade through her t-shirt. It still stung a bit as a reminder of the birthday present she gave herself last month. Didn't sting as much as the remnants of the pity party thrown last night. The sun made sure of that.

Shawna Josi slowly worked her way downstairs, stumbling a bit as she rubbed her head, trying to get it to calm down while she thought about things like food, or beverage, or other necessities. Didn't matter what attention she would attract, not like there was anyone to bother. Her parents were still off on that round-trip world cruise that was their anniversary present to themselves Probably halfway to Burma by now. Lia hadn't been home in months, not since her and Ryan moved into that apartment in Queens last year. Nick? Gone back to Harvard a couple months ago, wanting to get skating practice in on ice that wasn't rendered into slush by the Florida climate.

The teenager looked at the counter, where most of the mixing for last night's pity party happened. It didn't have to go down this way. She could have been a part of the crowd. She could have gone to Homecoming like the rest of the students and participated in some school-sanctioned debauchery. Heck, telling her classmates she had an empty house for the after-party probably would have made her pretty popular. Definitely would have been more fun than getting drunk and high and watching Friends on Netflix for the tenth time.

But she didn't care. Not about that.

What she did care about was that drunk Shawna had completely emptied her stash.

She looked at the counter and saw the Ziploc bag with a few crumbs of leaves left inside. Nowhere near enough to get her through another lonely, lazy Sunday. She walked around and saw the small "water pipe for tobacco" left by the fancy chair, surrounded by what looked to be the emptied six-pack of Smirnoff Ice she was able to get from the uncaring convenience store clerk using Lia's old ID. Ramiro didn't bother checking to see the expiration date of the Florida license was from back when Marco Rubio still had a shot at the presidency. That's why Shawna liked Ramiro.

However, in this recent state she found herself in, no alcohol and no drugs makes Shawna ... something, something. At least, that's what she thought. "Shit, now what am I gonna do?" she mumbled to no one in particular. As most teenagers did, she turned to her phone for answers, particularly to one of the friends she did have. Well, maybe not friend, but someone she definitely a strong economic relationship with.



However, Shawna had no idea what state CJ was in either. She couldn't get a hold of him last night. Otherwise things might have been livened up a little bit. So she had no idea how long it would be, waiting for a response. Or why she threw in that last bit. "Like I'd be worth twenty cents doing that sort of thing..." Her stomach growled in agreement. Or just plain hunger. It was hard to tell.

The teenager looked around the room and saw a mess that she had neglected to clean up for a few days now, and no easy solution to her food problem. "Ugh. Sunlight or actually cooking food?" she pondered aloud. "Which would be worse for me right now?" Another growl settled that question. "Fine, fine. I'll go get food."

She ambled back upstairs as quickly as she could, throwing on a pair of shorts but electing to keep the t-shirt on. Purse acquired, she made her way to the door with a bit more confidence, knowing she was going to get some food. She was sure to grab the Prada sunglasses off the table though. The sun was going to be a tricky foe, but she had weapons against it. "All right, let's go you," Shawna willed herself as she stepped out into the Palm Beach atmosphere, intent on finding food, CJ, or both if she was lucky.

Georgia scrolled through the pictures on her camera, muttering incoherent comments under her breath as she did so. What had even been the use of going to homecoming? It was pretty stupid going alone and she had done literally nothing but drink and take half blurry photos, leaving early before the drama and rumors had intensified. She should've spent the day at home instead, editing the photos she did have and uploading them to her photo blog. A small sigh escaped her lips as she flipped over her buzzing phone. The text on screen had her give another massive sigh.

DEVIL INCARNATE: I thought we were doing the photoshoot today. You're late!!!!! You better be at the Surf Shack in 10 minutes or you can go ahead and commit social suicide.

Georgie had forgotten about Sabrina, the wannabe model and their plans to meet. She quickly hopped out of bed and wiggled into a pair of jean shorts, throwing on a plain white T-shirt as she did so. A couple of hair tugs using her hairbrush and she was out of the door, camera strap slung casually around her neck. She hadn't wanted to take the job at first but it was a good opportunity to get her work out there, especially since Sabrina had so many followers on her social media. Plus Georgie's house was pretty close to the beach and she didn't have anything better to do anyway.

The sand kicked up at her heels as she headed towards the surf shack, the smell of fries already making her smile. She spotted Sabrina almost instantly, the perfectly tanned girl sitting at the bar with already a small group of admirers crowding around her.
"Sabrina!" Georgie headed towards the girl, tapping her on her shoulder.
Sabrina turned around, startled, before she pulled a disgusted face and got up. "Follow me" She called over her shoulder, leading Georgie to the outside of the Surf Shack, a half filled parking lot which boasted a nice view of the ocean below on the outermost side.
"You want the picture here?" Georgie whipped out her camera and checked the lighting through her lens before she shook her head. "The parking lot floor...it's not really good for a photo shoot, Sabrina."
Sabrina crossed her arms. "Well where do you suggest then? If you know so much?"
Georgie tried hard not to lose her temper, her cheeks reddening in annoyance slightly. She was the photographer and she'd taken so many photo shoots here that someone (especially someone like Sabrina) judging her expertise made her feel a bit peeved.
"There's a place...over here." Georgie lead the way to a path leading to a small cliff overlooking the ocean and looked behind her to make sure Sabrina was following. She had found the path last year, wandering around half drunk and trying to get in yet another photo of the sunrise above the ocean. Ever since then she'd brought a couple of clients here and occasionally claimed the place for herself when she wanted some alone time.
"Woah." Sabrina stopped in her tracks behind her. Georgie smiled.
"I know...isn't it beautiful up here? The lighting is perfect too, we came at exactly the right time!" Thrilled with her luck Georgie lifted up her camera and gestured Sabrina to move but the girl remained planted to the same spot. Georgie raised an eyebrow as she followed the girl's line of sight and finally she shook her head as she saw the boy sitting at the edge of the cliff, his curls highlighted in a light golden as the suns rays directly hit him. So that was what had caused the expression of surprise.
"Just leave him alone Sabrina. Take your photos, I don't have all day you know." Georgie lightly pushed the other girl in the shoulder and Sabrina turned to look at her, scoffing.
"Fine."

After countless, endless shots Georgie and Sabrina had finally settled on a couple of photos that looked good and as Sabrina's phone had started to ring off the hook, they had agreed to stop the photoshoot for the day.
Georgie watched as Sabrina walked away, the distinct supermodel shake to her hips making her distinct on such a busy day. As she herself got ready to go Georgie noticed the same boy, still in the same position as before. The ends of his hair had caught onto the light now and as he lay sprawled on the ground, he looked so peaceful, so angelic that Georgie could not resist the urge to take a photo.

SNAP!

Shit, was that shutter loud.
