Late Spring | Clear SkiesRun Dates: Sat & Sun (1pm EST)

Gemflors is riddled with conflict but, overall, it is seeing its best. For the first time ever, bandits and disease rank among the top concerns an average person living day to day life may expect to face. Famine persists only in the midwest, as far as rumor goes, and major war seems to have abated for now. All in all, everything for you is looking clear of obstacle. Is the time to live out your dreams now? Or are you one of the few who yet suffers in this period of calm? Either way, where will you go? What discoveries will you make? What adventure will you find, or will find you?

So Marospire is pretty dope aside from the lack of physical form so probably just gonna go with a basic humanoid/stodman

@AXIS Sounds awesome! I'll put it out there--Marospire at only slightly higher power can animate corpses / objects and possess them. So they wear "many skins" if you will. In fact, you just reminded me I forgot to put that somewhere, haha.

(Edit: I've decided it'd be more fun if they could just straight up possess stuff.)

I've noticed you haven't specified the average height of Occ, though based on the fact they can get intimidation, I'm assuming it's something similar to the Org. And Gegherun have no specific racial skills available to them ? (Well, if I were to make one of those poor bastards, I'd probably have them possess shape-shifting as an initial skill). I do have a proper question regarding Mirabilia and Atermagia: can any of the tier 1 skills for them be taken without first taking the universal skill of magic (e.g. taking bloodhound without also having atermagia from the universal skill list). If yes, what is the point/purpose of having the general skill in the first place? (Esp. What would having Mirabilia or Atermagia do without also having one of their specific tier 1 skills?). I think that's it for now while I try and see if I can decide on a character I might want to make (there are a lot of options and plenty of freedom for the history, but also some restrictions I'm honestly a bit wary of, so I'll see how it goes).

@SilverPawThank you for the question! You're right, I forgot the gegherun's racial skills completely. That might be in part because I'm making sketches of the races for people to refer to. Same with the occ, I listed 30' long but that doesn't mean much without knowing what they look like, I suppose actually mixed up the two reptiles' lengths. I'll be posting the sketches today and add that info.

As for your question: generally-speaking, no, mirabilia or atermagia must be one of a character's skills before they can whip out a spell. I'll try to make that clearer in the text. Although, you're free to invent a character who has those spells as native skills, instead, if you like. You could invent your own kind of magic (with its own history even). Within reason (meaning as long as nothing's deliberately destructive on a personal level or a blatant power grab), I envision this OOC filling up over time with the creations and RPed histories / events of everyone involved. Everything here is just a starting place--a base for players to work off of if they like. Maybe rules will tighten up after we start (for instance, anything new that's history-altering might be a bit jarring later in the RP), but for now I'm welcoming players to make the game something they can enjoy.

I also haven't yet decided on the total number of skills per character...so it starts at 2 but new ones purchased with experience are currently unlimited (it very well may stay that way).

Which restrictions are you wary of? It may be I didn't explain the rules properly.

Anyway, thanks again and hope to see you stick around.

I was just wondering how the RP itself will be with the action restrictions (not a system I'm familiar with, I admit), because I think it might lead to really short posts long term (like, a paragraph at max?). Not necessarily a bad thing, just maybe not as immersive? But on the other hand it would depend on the player and how descriptive they'd be with their actions, I guess. I don't really mind a limit on the skills that much (on a somewhat unrelated note, I have thought that you'll probably need more traits for personality - the temper part especially).

Oh, and: is this slice of life? Sandbox? Or do you have something planned that may drive characters of different species (that don't much like each other, in most cases) from the different continents to get together for a common plot?

Out of interest what is the average expected post requirement? I'm pretty comfortable around a little over a couple paragraphs but if the expectation on average is more to the high-casual / low advanced end I'll probably struggle to keep up. I thought I'd say now if the general consensus is towards that style of RP.

@MaeI went to casual so that everyone could post according to what is comfortable to them. I, myself, will probably vary greatly in post length--anything from a single paragraph to several. It's quality that counts to me, not amount. So you should be good. :)

@SilverPawAfter giving it much thought, I decided against Action points in regular posts. I have tried clarifying how Attack/Action points function in combat roles, however. The idea is D&D derived. A symptom of the restriction does make posts shorter, but I don't foresee it making them less immersive. In my Interest Check I mentioned wanting to run the game twice weekly. Not sure how well that'll work for everyone all the time, but combat should go quickly if everyone was available and online together, and my experience has been that this formula can be more immersive than if we each take our time crafting carefully formulated "attacks." Of course, we'll see. Always room for change if something doesn't go our way.

Also, I will definitely consider expanding the trait system! Thanks for the input. And this is a character-driven sandbox. So beginning "plot" is up to how each person wants to play their character. I do have plots at the ready for when they're relevant (and they will drive characters together), but for now I thought the focus could be on exploration, adventure, and the characters themselves.

Hope I've managed to elucidate!

What are the average lifespans of the different races? And the age they're considered an adult?

Is there a timeline for the wars? I know it's peaceful times atm, but how recent is the latest war (and is it in living memory)?

@SilverPawThe wars labeled "ancient" are considered to have happened in the distant past, while everything else could have occurred within the last 500 - 100 years, and those could definitely still be in living memory. Although, I left it all pretty vague so that people could fill in the blanks, if they so chose. Figured each war has to have at least two stories of how it went down, anyway.

As for ages, I also figured those could be had fun with. It could be assumed all non-stodmen live longer lives, especially occs and gegherun. Perhaps I'll leave some averages under "Races" though.

@The Bork LazerThank you for the good laugh. xD I loved that.

I've made this race for my character. It still needs to be revised and there are several flaws which I need to amend but can you please provide feedback for this?

@The Bork LazerI like the raskaal a lot so far! Like you said, they need a little polishing, but I didn't catch anything too incompatible with the world. I like the idea of them being one of the most technologically-advanced races--feels unique. The only place I questioned was the skills--can they climb due to hooked claws? By "supernatural" senses is "highly-refined" intended? Or are their keen senses magically-based? That's it. Also, I now really want to read "The Mouse and the Org," haha.
