The Roleplay itself

I want to make something different than ye olde Hogwarts or other magical school rp. I want to make it a little smaller, more personal as we put effort into each of our post and make our best to have fun. Basically, I want to make a roleplay where my character would teach your muggle-raised one how to be a witch or wizard.

That's what I want, now, let's get more in depth with the matter.

Seeking about four other players, this will be in an era where magical communities regressed to small familial clans after a close call from being discovered by muggles. We will start by each of our characters being from a similar area, that this may be from Europe, the Americas, Asia or even Africa depends on what we choose. A nameless town or area would be best, and as such I merely ask that your character start as an eleven years old muggle-raised or Muggleborn wizarding child. The rest we can argue over until we have a good idea of how things should be.

:) I'm up for it, and I already have a character in mind.

Where would be your preferred setting, Owlish? And, would the magic be akin to that of HP (wands, incantations, potions, magical flora and fauna), or more free-form (instead of saying "Incendio!", you just think "fireball", and a fireball happens)?

Thank you both for your interests :)!

Anyways, for your question, I would like to use the HP system as a primer and... expand on it, if that makes sense? A a setting, I think a small French town in the near future would be cute :). What do you guys say?

Here, for those who have a clue about what they want already and want to start on their sheet:

PERSONAL SHEET

Name: Marion Josette D'Auvoir
Gender: Female
Age: 78
Blood Status: Pureblood

Appearance:A stately woman with long, silvery hair put up in a loose and elegant chignon, she have a frail and aristocratic look about her, the former belied with the strength found in her eyes and spell work. With sharp mossy gray eyes and a plethora of lines on her face tracing both tragedies and triumphs, she looks like a matriarch of good breeding and strict dispositions. Dressed in a long spider silk shawl and long mourning dresses, she have, on special occasions, a slightly weathered witch's hat perched on her head.

Personality: Demanding yet kindhearted, she demands great effort and dedication from her apprentices, in exchange making her best shot at transforming them into extraordinary member of the wizarding world. A former apothecary owner, she has a strong green thumb and a caring and nurturing nature. Beware those who cross her, for hell hart no fury like a woman scorned describe her perfectly.

Biography: Widowed trice, this force of nature has long since decided to concentrate her effort on muggleborns and orphans instead of her inability to fund a family. Once a beautiful witch of good breeding, she has, with her three husbands passing in the five decades she concentrated on being a homemaker, amassed quite a fortune, and has since studied many a branch of magic in her time.

I say yes, that all works for me, though my girl is Spanish, not French... One of those multilingual overachiever types, you know? (I have this theory that magical blood sometimes allows for hyperpolyglotism, e.g. Barty Crouch. Hopefully it isn't a problem. It isn't like she doesn't work incredibly hard, she does, she just understands and recalls language better than most, on an instinctual level. Basically, languages are just her thing, her major interest. She wants to study the universal basis of language when she grows up, she's read all of these fantastic books about it, all that good stuff.) She'll have recently moved to the little town in France from Zaragoza, Aragon.

I'm starting up the sheet, but for anyone wondering, here are the languages she can speak fairly fluently/reads and writes fairly well: Castilian, Catalan, Portuguese, French, Italian, German, English, Russian and Arabic (which is her favorite so far, especially to write). Note that this doesn't include every dialect and variation of each of these, only a few from each. She can definitely understand the majority of dialects, but can't shift instantly between them in speech, if you catch my drift.

In addition, she's in the process of simultaneously learning a whole host of other languages (quite a few from outside Europe especially, like Mandarin and Swahili), helped along by her parents, who are quite wealthy, and can afford extensive lessons and more than a few trips to various places where her languages are natively spoken. ;) The list may grow even longer if languages like Centaur and Gobbledegook are around in this universe.

Yay! Also, yeah, I wish I was French Canadian. Monolingual English-speaker from the States here. Not even any history of other languages. Ancestors on one side... from England. On the other? England. -sigh-
