In this world, there are individuals born with special abilities. For most of human history this was an extremely rare occurrence and anyone hardly ever knew they even existed but over the past 200 years, with the global population exploding and through natural human evolution the number of these individuals has increased. They are called many names in many languages depending on one’s perception of their abilities; prodigies, demons, freaks, alphas are all terms associated with these special people but the most commonly used term is meta-human (MH). There is no way to know for sure exactly how many meta-humans there are in the world and scientific estimates vary greatly placing the number anywhere between 100,000 to nearly 1 million. Tensions have been rising all around the world regarding meta-humans and meta-human rights but nowhere in the world have things become more heated than in the USA where a rise of anti-meta-human sentiments has led to the election of a well known conservative politician named Saul Christensen to President. While there is no federal legislation directly discriminating against mutants in the USA, many states, especially those in the midwest and the southeast, have been allowed to take the law into their own hands and created discriminatory laws under the guise of “protecting non-meta-human rights” despite the fact that meta-humans are overwhelmingly in the minority. While President Christensen has never explicitly described himself as anti-meta-human, it is abundantly clear he is no friend of the meta-human population in the USA and many people are under the impression that the President is simply biding his time for the right moment to pass sweeping federal anti-meta-human legislation. This is due to his veiled rhetoric, the predominant sentiments of his voter base, and his close friendship to Alexander Greene, a well known anti-meta-human leader in the corporate world. Greene has been involved with all kinds of business interests over the last twenty years, most recently forging partnerships with some of the most lucrative weapons manufacturers in the country and around the world. Some meta-humans have banded together across to form vigilante groups to fight back against the rising number of hate groups across the USA but many mutant citizens are afraid that these two powerful men are simply biding their time for the right moment to unleash hell upon the meta-humans of the world...
Synopsis
Each of us will be playing the role of members of a vigilante group of meta-humans based out of Atlanta, Georgia, but coming from all over the country. Our gorup has gotten word of a plan by a meta-human rights extremist group to attack the White House in an attempt to intimidate the President. Realizing this is just the type of incident that President Christensen is hoping for, we will begin by traveling to DC to try to stop the attack and protect the man who hates our kind. However, when upon our arrival we will discover, through mysterious means, that things are not what they seemed to be will quickly get caught up in a conspiracy to frame meta-humans that involves some of the most powerful men in the world...
-Story: As you can probably already tell this is a story that focuses on serious issues such as racism, politics, human rights, security vs freedom, etc. so if you prefer to avoid those kinds of topics then this isn't the story for you. I want this story to be character driven by us as roleplayers but there will be a couple of major plot points delivered by me (one in the beginning and one later on).
-Powers: In this world, powers are almost exclusively limited to being physical enhancements in some nature or relating to the natural elements of the world. This means telepathy, telekinesis, time manipulation, magic, etc. are prohibited. As far as the scope of your powers I want to keep things limited to a street or city level scale so no world breakers, please.
Vigilantes: Keep in mind we are a vigilante group, not an officially recognized civil rights group. That means our characters are not all going to be perfect citizens and we are not above using violence against those who seek to opress us.
-Posting: A minimum of one post a week is expected from everyone involved but if you cannot get a post up then please DM myself along with whoever your character might be directly interacting with so that we can plan accordingly and move the story along. If you are inactive for more than two weeks without any notice then your character will be killed off. Posts should be at minimum a well thought out paragraph (8-12 sentences) but more is of course encouraged.
-Quality: We all have a slip up here and there but let's try to make sure our posts use proper grammar, punctuation, & spelling.
-Collaboration: Please "like" your fellow roleplayers posts. It lets them know you have read them and enjoyed them. It helps build relationships and a sense of purpose in the roleplay.
-OOC: Please limit all OOC chatter to the OOC thread or PMs.
-Character Control: No GMing or CC allowed unless otherwise discussed and approved by the participants involved & myself.
-Rating: This will be an R rated story but let's not go over the top or be gruesome/perverted/foul just for the sake of it.
-Historical Events: Please familiarize yourself with the timeline I have provided below. I'm okay with allowing you the freedom to retroactively create minor historical events but if there is anything significant you'd like to have added to this world's history please PM me first.
-Futurology: This story does take place in the near future so I do want to keep things grounded in reality for the most part but there will certainly be technological improvements over the next 20 years so obviously we will see these in our story. Like with the historical events I don't mind if you come up with minor technological advancements on your own but for anything that might affect the population on a national or global scale or if you have any questions please PM me first.
• C. 3,200 BCE – The first known meta-human is believed to have lived in East Africa & established a small kingdom where they were worshipped as a god • C.1500 – Rumors begin swirling in eastern and southern Europe about a being who feasted on the life force of others, typically by consuming their blood • 1886 – The first photograph of a confirmed meta-human is taken of Alexander Masirov in Russia • 1905 – The term “meta-human” is used for the first time in an official capacity to describe individuals with super human abilities in a Russian report following the Russo-Japanese War • 1914 – The first video footage of a meta-human using their powers is recorded during World War I at the First Battle of the Marne • 1915 – The US Government begins recruiting meta-humans for study as part of Operation Midnight • 1952 – The United Nations begins drafting international policies on meta-human rights • 1963 – Alexis Clark marches with Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. for equal rights for citizens of the USA • 1968 – Prominent meta-humans rights activist Julius Kane is assassinated during a rally in San Diego, CA • 1970 – The option for meta-human is included on the US Census for the first time • 1984 – The first meta-humans only charter schools are opened up across the USA • 2006 – Aaron Hughes, a 14 year old student in Alabama, is beaten to death by members of a growing hate group due to suspicion of being a meta-human • 2008 – The Pure Bloods are founded in Georgia by Thomas Stanford & quickly become the largest and most aggressive anti-meta-human hate group in the USA • 2019 – MetaCon, an annual gathering for meta-humans and meta-human rights activists in the DC area, is bombed by the Pure Bloods killing over 200 people (117 meta-humans) • 2020 – Sweeping legislation in the USA labels dozens of anti-meta-human hate groups such as the Pure Bloods a criminal organization • 2022 – The first meta-human member of Congress is elected in Mrs. Jessica Thompson out of Seattle as anti-meta-human hate groups appeared to be on the decline • 2030 – Ivan Medina is elected as the first meta-human governor in New York • 2030 – The meta-human population of the USA is officially announced at over 100,000 reigniting concerns in more conservative states over the potential threat to society they could pose • 2032 – Dozens of seats of Congress across the country, but especially in the southeast and Midwest are taken over by anti-meta-humans candidates • 2034 – Conservative politicians across the country begin pushing for vague meta-humans identification & registration policies • 2036 – Saul Christensen is elected President of the United States of America amid growing anti-meta-human sentiments • 2037 – As his first major act as President, President Christensen seeks to decriminalize hate speech towards meta-humans as well as membership to anti-meta-humans hate groups under the guise of “free speech”

Appearance: Venja usually sticks out to some extend. Her white hair, cut into a bob, draws the views of others. The slightly purple eyes are no sign of normality either - albeit she was born with both, as well as her pale skin. She is rather slim and with 5"3' she can be called petite without any doubt. her build is athletic, showing that she engages in different sports. Weighing just 108 lbs she is on the lower end of being healthy, but as she already had weighed quite a bit less she is still proud of it. Usually Venja can be seen wearing dark clothes. She prefers to go with Jeans and black shirts, mostly printed either with band names or illustrations, but can be seen wearing dresses or formal clothing if the occasion requires it - or she feels like it. During a normal day she will most likely not wear jewellery, apart from a set of stud earrings, depicting small roses formed from heat coloured wire. During rainy or colder days she will typically wear a beige trench coat which is definitely too large for her. Some have joked it doubles as a tent, but albeit the coat is visibly old and used she still wears it regularly.
Personality: In general Venja can be called a caring person. She does not like to see people suffer, she goes out of her way to ask others if everything is alright and tries to look after people. Furthermore she could be seen as introverted. Normally going out to a party or even a big get-together is not her cup of tea and she will rather stay at home and read a book. She still likes to interact with others, albeit she often time will listen more than she talks. In general she is rather reclusive, keeping a lot of her thoughts and feeling to herself. This does not mean that she would not stand up for her beliefs and ideals. If you manage to overthrow or even attack her values she will come down on you, ranging from professional to burning revenge. This has lead her to be part of meta-human rights activist groups and being a leading role in revealing problems at her campus and university.
Abilities: Venja is able to manipulate light. The first things she actively learned to do was the creation of darkness or light globes, but over time, she got more proficient with her skills. As the creation of optical "illusions" was one of the things she first discovered, she has trained herself in this domain for quite a while. By now, she is able to create walls that are not there, remove objects from the point of a viewer and even change her appearance. All this is not real - a wall created through her manipulation can be passed through, an object picked up and if she changes herself to have longer her and someone were to caress it he would just hit air. However, as most people trust their eyes, she is rather happy with the outcome. Lately she has also been training to manipulate the invisible parts of light, which turned out to be rather difficult. Another thing she came across rather recently is the fact that she should be able to create focused beams like a laser would. She is toying with it, but has still not found the hang for both.
Bio:
Venja has lived a rather chaotic life so far. She sometimes joke that she never liked the easy way, but reality is harsher by generally not offering one. Born under the name of Josy Blanc-Arbre in 2011 she grew up in a poor family. Her father never married her mother and routinely switched between threatening to leave the family and seeing them as property. From time to time, her mother would assure her that he had once been a kind man, but during her whole childhood Josy had never experienced this man to be kind. He always seemed angry and would regularly release his anger in form of violence towards her, her mother or her older brother. Her older brother had once been kind. When she was still really small, he even protected her. Growing older things changed, he learned that violence could make people do as he pleased and his sister was the one of his more frequent goals. This turned the few hours when both parents were out working, making minimum wage to finance a living, into nightmares instead of relaxation. Josy wound up in the library more often, finding some peace and quiet there. As an effect, her grades were always high. After elementary school she would have had the chance to attend a private school through a scholarship - but her father decided it was too pretentious. Therefore, she just went on in the public system. Her life changed one night in 2024. Being just 13 years old, she already was at home. Being 16 years old her brother started experimenting with alcohol - especially when their parents were out like this night. But that night would turn out to be different. She somehow annoyed her brother and the usual sequence of events started to unfold: He shouted at her, came over and would surely have hit her. But this time was enough, she screamed back and he stopped mortified in his back. Josy did not even get why he did, she just continued to shout, letting out any emotion that had been buried. It took her a good minute to realise he was not impressed, but terrified. Terrified because while she shouted light bent around her, forming masks and monsters only known from horror movies. And as Josy stared back at him one of them "launched" forwards, sending him tumbling over the coffee table and hitting his head. He was out cold and Josy knew she needed to leave. Her father was also not a big fan of meta-humans - and her brother would be even angrier when he woke up. She ran upstairs, packed a bag, grabbed her brother’s trench coat to put over her coat and left the house, later on even the city. For a while she wandered aimlessly, always in the fear of being searched by her family or maybe even police - in the end she had left behind her bleeding, unconscious brother. After a few weeks, she met Veikko, another meta-human on the run. What followed were a little over two very turbulent years living on and off the streets together, filled with a good part of questionable up until wrong decisions. She learned to stand up for herself, but she also learned how to break into buildings, pickpocket, beg and fight. And she took Venja as her new name, distancing from her family and childhood. It all ended rather abrupt and rather tragical. In the end, Venja still prefers to not talk about it, but it is known that when she was 15 she turned up at a youth care center looking very shaken up and underweight, seeking refuge. As she could not go back to her family and also did not want to, she was sent to a special school that helped runaways to get back on track with life and academics. She went to psychological counseling and finished school with 18, again being back at excellent grades. Things seemed as they would turn out to be fine. A meta-human was running for governor in New York, Venja had found a scholarship to go to college and was more or less happy with her life. She had a goal and a purpose and was eager to later on get to medical school. She started college, doing rather well in her studies. She put a lot of effort into the required pre-med courses, did well in her studies and put time into additional certifications, as well as voluntary work. The last bit of time of her four years in college was cramped into meta-human right activism. It did not leave her much time to build a social circle, but she had a goal and that was important. She knew the position of meta-humans in the world was starting to get more... challenging. Venja was unwilling to stop her career - but she saw the danger grow. She felt the tension growing. As she found a program targeting meta-humans as an underrepresented group that would at least pay the tuition (still leaving her with her normal living), she switched to Morehoues in Atlanta and for a while between school and jobbing not much time remained. She got around, finished thre of her four years. Her rotations came up and the claims and shouts for registration and identification processes had done their toll: Wherever she wanted to go for rotation, she would have needed to register. In the end she decided that this was not a fair way to treat her - or any meta-human for that matter. She put in a leave year at her school and joined a vigilante group in Atlanta. She needed to get her head free of ... this. Venja is still undecided which path to go. She wants to go on in medicine, but is well aware that what she wanted to do will not be possible in the current situation. On the other hand her trust that activist movement would help has diminished by actively living through the re-legalisation of hate.
Other: Besides reading, Venja loves to climb and run. She usually does it to take her mind of problems. At the moment she makes a living as a laboratory assistant in an institution that runs test for multiple hospitals.
Hi, I'm interested in this. I do have one question though. Could you provide some more details on the meta vigilante group? It's kind of hard to design a character that would join a group if I know literally nothing about them other than they are all metas. Is it like an X-Men thing where they take in any metas who need help. Would it be more open source, something you could find on the internet if you were looking for a group to join to fight back. I don't really have a solid base to say "my character joined this group" if I don't know what circumstances would allow her to get involved with them.
