✡ The Beginning

It has been some time in which nearly every individual taking place within the supernatural community has experienced omens or visions of a mysterious force that is hinting towards catastrophic events. This has stirred fear and panic — causing several covens, packs, and groups to close their doors and lock their gates. Here in Salem, Massachusetts, survival is hard when placed in the heart of the supernaturals' dwelling, thus, it is easy to become callous and selfish, shutting out the rest of society to ensure one's own safety. Though, it is now that these tendencies have been cast aside, and a door has been opened, inviting fellow creatures of the night to come and discuss their experiences and their fears to help inform the rest of the community. Perhaps the time has come to ignore all rivalries and centuries-long quarrels to allow for a chance at some kind of unity, regardless of how short-lived it may be, to discover what it is to come.

Founder's Day has come! A huge event for the people of Salem to gather within Washington Park in celebration of another year coming for the small city-town. Pop up shops, food trucks, and several booths open up to give several activities for the citizens to enjoy. The day begins with live music, celebration, drinking, and continues on until a fireworks show wraps up the night. The streets will be crowded, the park will be full, and the people will be lively — but what about the eerie presence of Salem's best guests?

Salem, Massachusetts
【Eight Days until Full Moon

October 1st, 12:00am | The Docks

Loud rain pattered against the wood of the docks as the clattering bells and clinks of rocking boats echoed throughout the air. Rolling thunder reverberated in the thick, black clouds and the fast winds whistled with ruinous intent over Salem, Massachusetts. Mother nature is loud and ferocious on this night and boatmen are up late attempting to secure their goods and equipment. This stormy night offered a ghostly hand to the already eerie city-town, but the aura of Salem had suddenly dropped as a dark, fearful presence emerged—from an origin unknown, but easily assumed to be the storm itself—causing an underlying, sinister wickedness to soar with the strong gale.

"God damn, I need to be in bed already! How bad is this storm supposed to be!?" A burly man shouts in frustration, using ropes and chains to tie down crates.

"Channel 7 news fuckin' sucks! Those fuckin' idiots said it wasn't supposed to rain for another week!" An older man replied in a paralleled anger, struggling to keep his balance from the wet floor and the strong gusts. They stood close to each other, but even shouting was difficult to hear over the volume of the storm.

"Hey, past me some more rope, will ya!"

Thunder roared and lit up the dock to reveal the chaos the storm created—boxes in shambles, broken dock boards, and random clutter lying about.

"Yo boss! I need rope, damn it!" He turned, "Boss, I-"

Thunder roared and lit up the dock once more, but the silhouette of a tall man with a long coat and a wide-brim hat stood motionless in the midst of the storm, the bright light framing his tall, broad body.

"Who the hell are you?"

One more flicker of light, and a grimace could be seen beneath the shadow of the hat. Sharp fangs shimmered between cracked lips, a strong hand lifting as fast as the lightning strikes the earth, revealing bloodied talons and a jumble of tattoos along the back of his hand. Yet only so much could be perceived in one rapid movement before death struck and it is a shame this is the last memory the burly man would take with him.

With that, the boatman's screams rang harmoniously with the loud thunder, carried by the merciless wind.

Salem, Massachusetts

October 1st, 12:00pm | Ambrosia's Mansion - Washington Park | N/A

The afternoon was quite opposite of the night. The temperature was a comfortable, fall chill, the sun beaming through the sky to help relieve some of the darkness that unfolded from the night. The colorful leaves rustled together and the sound of the fountain in the courtyard could be heard, filling the silence Ambrosia has come to embrace in her mornings. Ambrosia stood within a shaded patio that opened out into an exquisite garden of flowers and shrubs with a trail that lead to a beautiful gazebo. Red roses dominated the greenery, her eyes hopping from one rose bulb to the next as she became lost in her thoughts.

“Miss? I do believe it’s time to go,” a middle-aged gentleman’s voice broke her trance.

Ambrosia looked up slowly, her eyes meeting the horizon where the garden would turn into dense forestry. She took a breath in.

“Are you all right, Miss?” her trusted butler questioned her in concern.

She paused before turning to him with a gentle smile, “Yes. My apologies, Leo. I was just thinking, that’s all.”

Ambrosia began to move closer, but halted as he spoke again, “It troubles you, doesn’t it,” Leo paused, “The change in the air.”

“So you feel it, too?”

He nodded, “I do.”

Ambrosia took another deep breath, taking a moment longer to enjoy the scenery before grabbing her handbag, “Let’s be off, then.”

With that, they followed the path in the courtyard that lead around the old, but renovated, mansion to a private, stone driveway that encircled a much larger fountain with an array of decorations beside it. Leo opened the door of a black SUV with tinted windows to let Ambrosia in, closing it softly once he was sure she was inside. The gesture has become so normal for the both of them that it could be considered second-nature. He made his way to the driver's seat and began to head for Washington Park, where Ambrosia’s plan will take place.

“Are you nervous, Miss?” Leo asked, his eyes fixated on the road.

Ambrosia collected her thoughts before coming up with an appropriate response, “I feel so many things right now, I can’t tell if that’s even one of them,” she began, taking another moment, “But I’ll just consider nervousness to be among the emotions that trouble me, yes. You and I both know that this is for the better, and maybe coming out of the dark will relieve me.”

“You’re absolutely right, Miss,” Leo nodded, “But I worry that this past night has brought upon something more than just speculation.”

“As much as I wish to disagree with you, I can’t. Time is only ticking now,” Ambrosia sighed.

“They found the man mutilated and the other missing,” Leo spoke coldly and bluntly, but Ambrosia hadn’t flinched since she knew the details already, “The man was missing parts of his organs and his bones, perhaps this is just a witch’s doing?”

Ambrosia shook her head in disagreement, ignoring his attempt to help uplift the situation, “I spoke with Astrid. She believes it’s something otherworldly and powerful. The visions she sees aren’t like any she’s ever witnessed and they carry with them a darkness that doesn’t compare to any witch or warlock. Believe me, I wish to not lower my guard to the others either, but I believe they could have fragmented answers of their own. Let’s hope at least some of them show up to this damned festival.”

“I know it pains you to see her that way. I know it must be hard for her to even sleep at night,” Leo replied, trying to comfort her at the very least.

“Astrid is brave,” Ambrosia spoke confidently and surely, “She’ll come out of this stronger than she thinks.”

Leo decided not to comment on the underlying doubt Ambrosia had, fearing that if her confidence were shaken, she would let her uncertainty scare her. So the rest of the drive was silent until they made it to Washington Park. As usual, he opened the door to let her out. Stepping out, one black, pointed heel at a time, and she was welcomed into the craze of the growing festival. She threw her long brown hair over one shoulder and flattened the wrinkles of her mid-length, conforming black dress.

Taking Leo’s arm, they made their way down to the festivities, becoming distracted every now and then by the various shops and booths that lined the streets. And for a moment, they would both fit in to the crowd, though Ambrosia’s dark presence was sure to scare the majority of the people she came across, causing them to become intimidated or evasive. Thanks to the black magic that taints her, she doesn’t have to worry too much about human interaction due to the eerie presence she involuntarily conjures. On the contrary, she is well-known within Salem because of her known wealth, her presence recognizable by many.

The park was so lively. Children played together, businesses were having a huge success with the abundance of patrons, and even the bars had a huge crowd of day-drinkers. The docks in the distance had some events that caused an attraction of people, boats lining the waterfront to create a beautiful vista for the town to admire. The foliage around and beyond added beautiful hues of orange, yellow, and red, dressing the town in gorgeous fall colors.

They moved to a nearby bench, underneath the shade of trees. Ambrosia fiddled with the ring that guarded her from the sunlight, taking in the last few moments of enjoyment she had.

“I believe it’s time,” Ambrosia declared, pulling out a small notepad and a pen. “Can you sense anybody?”

"I didn't want to mention this before, but," Leo paused, his eyes trekking across the horizon of people and trees, "I sense supernatural activity everywhere."

Ambrosia looked up in shock, placing a hand on his cheek comfortingly, "Are you all right, Leo? If things seem amiss, we can turn back now, just tell me."

Leo shook his head, smiling as he backed his head away from the coolness of her touch, "I appreciate your concern, but I should manage. It's just strange, is all, that everywhere I look I can see something in the air. Corruption, if you will. No matter, though, I can still sense high activity. They're here and it's now we begin."

A hesitant nod followed by Ambrosia, clicking her pen open, "Alright then! Who's first?"

Hunter's Hideaway

October 1st 12:00pm | Interactions w/ Hunter NPCs and a Dark Magic using Witch

Evren paced around the bar area of the farmhouse, her fingers reaching out and touching a bottle lightly before she grabbed it fully and downed it, not that that would do her any favors in training later, but oh well. Her hair hung in sweaty strands on either side of her face and she brushed them back impatiently. Why was he taking so god damn long? Evren placed the liquor bottle on the counter gently but contradicted this action by her slamming her palm on the wooden surface. Evren Arthur needed answers...and she'd better get them now. As she moved over to the couch and slowly lowered herself onto it she heard the farm door slamming closed and immediately got back up again, her body tense as she awaited an answer.

Everett appeared before her, coolly calm as she reached down and pulled out one of her more inferior daggers out of her boot, flipping it by the hilt so she had a proper hold on it as she advanced towards the lazy little brute.

"Well? Do you have an answer?" She faced Everett head on as he looked back down at her, his eyes unreadable.

"Why ask Everett when you can ask me?" Augustus appeared beside Everett and leaned a toned arm against the doorway, raising an eyebrow at the dagger she was gripping in her hand. "What're you planning to do with that, angel?"

Evren gave the dagger one last cycle around her spinning fingers before she rapidly turned and chucked it in the direction of the two hunters. They barely moved as the dagger embedded itself securely a mere centimetre away from Everett's head. Augustus chuckled and saluted at her.

"Don't keep me waiting. Spit it out."

"We hunted down the witch, and you're right. She confirmed that there has been something wrong around these parts...but she just doesn't know what." Everett spoke the words that Evren had been dreading, her furrowed brow an indication of just exactly how worried she was about the recent development.

Evren had noticed something wrong for a couple of days now. The lone supernaturals were behaving strangely when they were hunted down, believing that the hunters brigade had something to do with whatever was going on even though they didn't. She'd heard the whisperings of the dark magic using witches and warlocks they've caught and picked up on it pretty quickly. The problem had been in her head for days and she'd been frantically reading up on as many journals and hunter history books as she could find to see if anything of the sort had happened before. She had found nothing. Was it going to make the supernaturals stronger? What exactly was the meaning of this feeling? And lastly, the question that she hadn't allowed herself to ask: Would it affect her dad? Evren shook off the worrying thoughts as she brushed past the two hunters to reach the door. She was going to go and check up on the witch that Everett and Augustus were taking care of, that at least seemed like the best she could do for now.
"You didn't kill her yet, did you?" Evren pulled on her coat and tossed back her strawberry blonde locks from the confines of the jacket.

"Nope, we left her all to your highness."Augustus mock bowed and poured himself a drink from the bottle she'd left on the counter, offering one glass to Everett who eyed her cautiously before taking a sip.

"I'm going to go get more info. Hold down the fort and if you can...I'd like a werewolf here by tonight. God knows I need the fun." She gave instructions, shouting them over her shoulder as she crossed the threshold and headed out to the shed, some ways away from the main farmhouse.

Evren pulled the door open and peered into the room, grabbing another knife from the pile on the shelf. She glanced down at the dried blood on the blade and gave it a quick sniff. It seemed to have been the killer of a witch or warlock, the smell averagely mundane. She hadn't killed any magic users this week so it must've been one of the others. There was no reason to kill them, not if they could come in useful one day, but if one of her hunters had a problem with their kind then she really wasn't one to argue. She creeped closer to the edge of the room and spotted the unconscious witch tied up in the corner, her long black hair hanging matted and dirty over the edge of the screwed in metal chair and her lips fully covered with a tight cloth.

Evren moved quickly to edge the knife next to her neck, giving her a kick to the shins with her metal tipped boot to wake the other girl up. The witch woke, her eyes growing wide at the sight of a new kidnapper.

"Hello there, sweetie. My name's Evren and you are?" The witch opened her mouth, the beginnings of a spell making their way to Evren's ears before she moved the tip of the blade deeper into the girl's upper neck, a small trail of blood making its way down her delicate skin.

"Nuh uh, baby. You see, I don't really like all your dark magic. I just want information. So if you pull whatever you're going to pull...I won't hesitate to kill you." Evren gave the other girl a smile and winked, conspiratorially as if they were friends.

"Amy is my name. What do you want with me?" Amy spat the words rudely out in Evren's face, provoking only a sight widening of eyes as the knife blade slipped dangerously close to her cartoid artery. "Whoops"

"I want some information on what is going on around here. You say you don't know but I have a feeling you do. There's something wrong and I like planning, so I'd favor it if you pointed out to me exactly what the hell is causing the problem so I know what to do. Help a girl out?"

"Look, all I can say is that something is up in the air. My coven's been talking about it but whatever it is I really don't know. We have a suspicion that it might be the doing of something, someone but there's no guarantee we're right. There are people working towards finding out though, so maybe take them instead." Amy's voice was innocent but firm. Her eyes looked Evren up and down and Evren could just about see the girl plotting her demise. She was a dark magic user after all, it wouldn't have cost her much.

Evren took the time to regard Amy again before she pulled the cloth back over her lips, removing the knife from it's position and tossing it onto the floor.
"You'll not be spared the mercy of a killing just yet. Hang around for a bit, honey. We might need you...or not." And with that the door to the shed slammed closed, Evren walking out into the cold breeze and hearing, like a sweet lullaby, the girl's muffled screams behind her.

Salem, Massachusetts

October 1st, 11:45 a.m. | Sage's Cottage-Washington Park | Collaboratioin with @smarty0114@SamaraJayne96

"Mom?" Sage called out as the beginning of a dream began to take hold. Usually, when her deceased mother visited her in dreams, they would always meet at a place that the two of them had created years ago. A sort of sanctuary to practice magic and take a break from the nuances that usually occurred within the physical realm. The world they created was filled with lush green gardens that would put the Garden of Eden to shame. Everything was bountiful and beautiful, almost picture perfect. Even though it was always sunny in her dreams, there would always be a slight breeze keeping the temperature at a comfortable 70 degrees Fahrenheit.

This time, however, all Sage could see was darkness and destruction. The area that surrounded her this time resembled that of her neighboring town. Salem was only a few miles through the woods, down at the edge of the river. The difference between Salem and this place was... well... It was as if someone... or something destroyed the village. The usual paved and prim streets were now cracked and partially crumbled. Cars were turned over and a few buildings seemed to have collapsed. Citizens were trying to evacuate. Screaming for their loved ones, their cries sounded like a dull roar. Ultimately the scene looked as if they were now in post-apocalyptic times.

BOOM!

Not too far from where she was standing, a vehicle that had been laying on its back exploded. It almost looked as if an unseen figure cast a fireball spell right on the cars exposed gas tank. The shock was enough to render her immobile for a few seconds before she snapped out of it and moved to find shelter. Her intuition sensed an impending doom that was suffocating. A black magic that she prayed she would never come across. Her stomach churned at the very thought.

"Mom?" She called again, feeling like a small child; scared and confused. She needed her mother. She needed someone she trusted. Someone to protect her.

Cautiously, she maneuvered around foreign objects that she could not make out in all the chaos. After turning around a corner, a hand grasped her shoulder from behind causing her to spin around. What she didn't expect was coming face-to-face with a pair of blood-red eyes. They crinkled with malice as a triumphant laugh cackled out of their throat.

"STOP!" Sage screamed as her tears cascaded down the sides of her face. She noticed her pillow was damp with sweat. A few tendrils of her hair were glued to her profile as if to mimic ivy growing on tree bark.

"Another nightmare." The witch murmured as she leaned over to turn on her bedside lamp.

For months now, the very same nightmare seemed to haunt her. Kind of like a movie, the dream would play over and over, the same events occurring from start to finish. Never was she able to see what happened before or after the setting she took part in. It wasn't for lack of trying though...
The room began to spin as Sage attempted to control her breathing. Whenever she had panic attacks like this, she always seemed to hyperventilate.

"Woah, Lunarie! Are you alright?" A male voice called beside her.

Alarm coated her every nerve and she felt her blood run cold. Sage lived alone in a small, but cozy, cottage in the middle of the woods just outside of town. She chose this place on purpose because she couldn't stand to be around others. In fact, the hike from her front door to where she had parked her car was easily a quarter of a mile. Only an introvert would appreciate that quality. She literally lived off the beaten path... Which made it even odder that there was someone else in her home. Having been raised in one of the toughest cities in America, Sage was always taught that there were a few rules that a New Yorker should always follow. One, always keep your money in your front pockets; and two, always keep a weapon under your pillow.

As if on instinct, she quickly rolled onto her back and reached under her head. Hidden there was her athame, a small knife that she used for rituals. The handle was carved out of moonstone and displayed intricate markings leading back to a Nordic origin. The blade itself was made of silver. Perfect for werewolves. With a battle-cry that would have made Gerard Butler from 300 proud, she wrapped her petite frame around the intruder. Legs formed around his waist while one hand grabbed hold of his hair. The other had pressed the blade against his throat.

"Who the fu-" Sage began.

"Stop! It's me Quinn!" The intruder yelped as the knife bit down and drew blood. Instead of removing her weapon, she froze unsure of what to do. Sage had half a mind to maim anyone that invaded her privacy. Growing up, her father did enough of that to last a lifetime.

"What the hell are you doing here Lynch? I told you I don't like unexpected guests... or any guest in general."

Quinn winced as the knife cut into his neck. Instinct kicked in, and he let his hands drop from his throat, before shoving them towards the floor of Sage's cottage. A gust of wind blew through the home and tore the knife from her fingers. Successfully flinging the weapon across the room where it clattered against the wall before falling to the floor. Quinn brought his hands to the ones that were gripping onto him in an attempt to forcefully disengage from the situation. He threw her onto the mattress and stepped back with a staggering breath.

"Maybe, if you stopped trying to kill me, I could explain."

Sage's eyes went wide. Incredulous, she sat up and threw a pillow at him.
"YOU'RE the one who broke into my house and yet I'M the bad guy." With a roll of her eyes she faced him and crossed her arms.

As fast as lightning, Quinn caught the pillow and tossed it over his shoulder. Wincing, his hand rose to his neck, and shortly after he muttered an incantation under his breath. "Alliges duplicia sano, alliges duplicia sano." A soft light poured out through his fingers, and when he brought his hand back, the cut was scabbed over. Hardly healed, but the bleeding had at least stopped.

"You are one mean fighter Lunarie, I will give you that." Quinton said, shaking his head and chuckling. "I came by to come recruit you to help with the booth at the Founders Day Festival. My mom's sick and you clearly need to work on your people skills." The warlock explained, pointedly eyeing the knife.

"Surely you jest sir." Sage mumbled before standing up and making her way towards the open closet situated in the corner of her small room.

The girl across from him had become something of a friend in the past few months, though the episode with the knife might not show it. Willow, her mother had been a member of the coven in Salem, and his mother's best friend since high school. In fact, she had been the Supreme witch before the unfortunate accident resulting in her death. In an attempt to resurrect her deceased husband, Quinton's mother, Rachel called upon black magick to aid her in her plea. After casting the spell she soon found out that the magick she had channeled required a life for a life. It was Willow who stepped in, nullified the spell, and in turn gave her own life to save her friend. The tome supposedly had been destroyed, it's ashes scattered to the winds. Rachel had been insistent on his looking out for Sage when she came to town, and so he'd come to recognize what her baseline was, and right now this was not it.

"Are you good, Lunarie? You seem... frazzled."

Sage stepped into her closet and pulled a shower-like curtain behind her to make it into a make-shift dressing room. The curtain was made of hemp that had been dyed blue and woven into a Mandala symbol. Even though she couldn't stand to be around others, even though the thought of leaving her home depressed her, she had to go to the festival for Rachel. If not for Rachel, then for the coven that she had just been sworn into. Her mother used to lead the coven called, "Light of Polaris", so it was Sage's job to maintain its reputation. That and Willow had only good things to say about her and good memories to share... Besides the obvious.

After changing into an outfit more presentable for the public eye, Sage stepped out of her closet and shot Quinn a death glare.

"This is your fault." She mumbled while walking past him.
She eyed her front door warily and stopped.
"How the hell did you get in here anyway? I always lock my door and- You know what? Nevermind. I don't want to know."
She pulled her hair over her left shoulder and began french braiding it until it came down to her waist. With a heavy, almost mournful, sigh she collapsed once more on top of her bed. Like a dead corpse, her emerald eyes glazed over as she stared up at the ceiling. Glow in the dark stars smiled back at her. A few with literal smiles drawn on their faces.

"To be honest, no. I am not okay. I keep having the same nightmare over and over. And lately, I have been getting bad vibes. It sounds crazy I know, but it's like my stomach is eating itself for no reason. Experience has taught me that that is a sign that something bad is about to happen."

She peeked over at him half expecting Quinn to take her to a mental asylum right then and there. Sitting up in bed once more she bit her lower lip and simultaneously bounced her right foot. Both seemed to be nervous habits of hers. This is why she couldn't stand humans. Their psyche was way too unpredictable. Animals tended to be true to their instincts. As long as you eminated positive energy they either left you alone or become friendly. Turning to her right, Sage saw her car keys and cell phone on her bedside table. She picked them up and noticed a few notifications on her lock screen. Six missed calls and two voicemails... All from her father. She groaned inwardly and slipped the electronic device into her back pocket.

Quinn stared at Sage for a moment before speaking.
"I wasn't going to say anything about this, but, the same shit's been happening to me. Crazy dreams, or at least, I thought they were dreams. Now, I don't know, I'm starting to think they might be visions."
He stated, his mind seeming to wander off. He conveniently avoided the recurring scenes concerning the book he'd hidden away in his closet, and the death's of himself, and everybody else in Salem. That info would probably be safest with Sage, but the thought of revealing it all made his heart skip a beat.

Quinn glanced down at his watch and let a curse fly out of his mouth.
"We're gonna have to shelve this creepy vision conversation for now. We've got a booth to run," he proclaimed as he
headed out the cottage door toward his motorcycle.

Sage watched him walk outside, her eyes slit in annoyance. Town... they were going into town. A place that Sage did not frequently visit and was not particularly fond of. She only made the trip into civilization once every two weeks or so. Mainly for minor errands like groceries and such. Or to visit the shop of Curious Curios where their coven meetings are held. Sage never thought she would join a coven. It was always assumed that she would be a solitary witch... but that is a topic for later reflection.
She placed her keys, cell phone, and a few other personal items in her olive green messenger bag. Also making sure to include a few premade potions and enchanted trinkets. You never know what you may need when it comes to other people... Anything could happen. And with her reoccurring nightmare, she felt better having some premeditated protection with her.

After looking herself over in the mirror, lacing up her hiking boots, and locking her front door, she exited the cottage and began mozying down the winding trail that led to where vehicles could park. Seeing what type of vehicle Quinn expected her to travel on caused her to stop dead in her tracks.

"Yay... human contact. Awesome." She muttered sarcastically as she approached him.

Quinton wordlessly handed a goose-egg shaped helmet to Sage and slipped his own protective gear over his head. He straddled the bike, and when he felt Sage wrap her arms around his torso, he started it up, racing out of the woods along a dirt path. The old motorcycle had belonged to his dad, though his mom had enchanted it years ago. It never broke down, or ran out of gas. Though it did need to be taken to his mom every few months to have the enchantment redone. That was less a sign of the enchantment's strength, and more indicative of how Quinn drove it.

As they exited the woods, Quinn sped up even faster. The wind, almost deafening, rushed by as the duo flew through town. He smirked slightly when he felt Sage cling to him harder and shout in surprise. After a few twists and turns, he began to slow down as they pulled up to Washington Park. He nudged the kickstand down with his foot, and wrenched off his helmet, before turning around to look at Sage.

"Founder's Day awaits, Lunarie." He grinned, a little too excited. Quite possibly at her demise.

"Oh I can hardly wait." She grumbled as she dismounted and took off her helmet.
Taking a look around she noted a few booths set up around the area. While she could appreciate the few trees the park managed to preserve, it was a far cry from the forest she had currently resided in. That, and there were a LOT more people here than she expected. Almost as if all of Salem had decided to attend today's festivities.

I wanna go hooome. She whined inwardly, trying not to wince at her surroundings.

Quinton led the way through the throngs of people, looking back every so often to make sure Sage was still following him. As they walked he noticed that she seemed to tense and withdraw into herself.
The Curious Curios booth was set up near the center of the park, the hub of activity. The booth was covered with various knickknacks. Most of them had been sold to his mom from various Salem residents, or travelers. Porcelain dolls, old books, antique lamps, dream catchers. The people of Salem had an eye for antiques, and for whatever reason, they loved his mom's shop. The items his mother made were stowed in behind the booth, away from prying eyes. Those were the more interesting curios. Enchanted rings, spellbooks, dream catchers that actually worked, those were where the money really was for his mom. Supernaturals needed the things his mother provided, and they'd often pay a hefty fee, both for the enchantments, as well as secrecy.

Behind the booth, two foldable chairs were set up, and Quinn quickly planted himself in one, giving the park a quick scan. He noted Ambrosia Sanguis, and one of her lieutenants. He could sense the black magick emanating from her, so similar to the tome he had tucked away. It was enchanting almost the same way a lion stalking its prey might be. So dangerous, yet so, so tempting.

"All we've got to do, is watch the booth, sell some shit, and make sure nobody dies." Quinton said, looking over at Sage. He was only half joking about the last part. When all the supernaturals in Salem convened, as they were likely to do today, things had a nasty habit of going south, very fast.

"Aye, aye Captain." She said with a salute before claiming the seat beside him.
In an effort to avoid eye contact she pulled out her phone and began mindlessly scrolling. A text popped up just then. From her father. Of course.

"Please come home." Is what it always read.

"I am home." Is what she always replied.

Jeremy Lindall

Founders Festival

October 1st, 12:15 pm| @SamaraJayne96@Lionhearted

If Jeremy was being completely honest, he wasn't sure he was enjoying this festival. Sure, as far as festivals went, it was definitely one of the better ones, with plenty of stalls and activities to keep him busy, and just straight up nice decor all around, but for some reason it seemed a little difficult for him to enjoy himself as he wandered the grounds. Maybe it was the fact that he'd accidentally torn his jacket on a broken hinge in the tiny, cheap apartment he was currently renting, and so had no way to keep out the little, uncomfortable chill that apparently decided to hang around despite it already being midday. Maybe it was the fact that he'd also cut himself at the same time he tore said jacket, and had an annoyingly decent chance of getting tetanus.

Maybe, just maybe, it could even be the fact that there was a vampire sitting not too far from where he currently stood sending out such a heavy aura of dark magic it actually left him feeling a little nauseous...

But hey, who could say? As far as he could see, there was an equal chance for any of the three to be the right answer! Definitely no obvious signs that could let him know for sure, no siree!

But yeah, vampire. He wasn't particularly used to seeing them sitting so blatantly out in the open, but hey! At least that was proof of this place being the kind of supernatural hotbed that Hannah could definitely maybe have come to! Probably. Anyway, he'd have to ask around about that later in the night, probably in the bar scene. Maybe he could even ask the vampire herself. Of course, the whole 'dark magic' thing made that a little more complicated. Not just because he wasn't sure he could get close to her without feeling sick yet, but also moral reasons. He was rambling. He should stop. Especially since he'd been staring at the woman during his mental planning and he was fairly certain she'd have noticed by now. Maybe even written something about him in that

He took a deep breath in and out, and did his absolute best to tune out the dark magic. He only kind of succeeded, but it was better than nothing, and now he could return to his original plan for the day.

Buy cool shit and try to make friends.

He wasn't sure how well step two was gonna go considering his usual social skills, but step one? Definitely doable! Especially considering that he was conveniently close to a stall selling multiple bits and pieces of a definitely-not-magical nature, run by two clearly totally-not-magic-users. True, he probably wouldn't have been able to tell it was a witch and a warlock if he didn't notice the magic in the equipment at the stall, but it still made him hope he was hiding his own identity as a warlock well enough. He was pretty sure he was, but just in case, he was probably gonna need to play up the 'magically ignorant normie' bit a little more when he approached them. Thankfully, it was an act he was pretty good at by now, so it wasn't too difficult for him to all but hide the quirks that might tip him off as not being Jeremy Lindall, professional normal man.

"Uh, hey!" He said with a wave as he approached the stall, trying not to sound like an awkward idiot. He was never really good at meeting new people unless Hannah introduced themselves first, an act that would leave them desperate for contact with a normal person like him within about five minutes. "Is this all like that... uh... that 'occulty' stuff? I've got a friend who keeps trying to get me into that kinda stuff, but it never really appealed to me. Still, I'm figuring buying one of these'll help me calm her down enough to not give me the silent treatment for moving away next time I see her, so yeah. What can you tell me about some of these books?"

Salem, Massachusetts

October 1st, 12:00pm | Founder’s Festival | N/A

The crisp chill of the morning air hung heavy with the scent of rain, everything smelling fresh and new. They had not been due for a storm the night before but it had happened anyway which was not something she could complain about other then a lack of sleep that had befallen her. Rain was always a soothing sound but when mixed with thunder, it made her ears want to bleed which meant waiting out the noise for peaceful sleep. Now, she stood by the docks, sugary coffee in hand to counter out a restless evening and the early wake up call to duty. There had been no hesitation in taking this case or lending a hand when she had found out the minor details at almost the crack of dawn.

Her hand tightened on the cup, the whiskey brown gaze locked onto the ship in the distance and waiting for a boat to take her out to the location. She knew the minor details of what she would find on board but being at a crime scene was always different from the details, more so for her than most. A gentle breeze tugged at the chocolate brown locks of her hair, causing her to tuck it behind her ear as she picked up on the sound of footsteps approaching her direction. She pretended not to hear, ignoring the distinct step pattern and the type of cologne he always wore that gave away who was to be at her side. The older gentleman had been on the force for quite awhile and was always pleasant in nature. The kind that always smiled or brushed off the negativity of the job but today, he seemed to be struggling with the weight of it. No one could blame him. The fishermen were all in an upset roar and rightfully so, plus there was no doubt he had already been over to the destination before her.

“Hey Rookie, didn’t think I would see you here.” He stated, stepping up next to her to look out over the water.

“I am hardly a rookie and why wouldn’t I be here? A man is missing and you know as well as I that I am good at finding people.” Juniper replied, watching as her ride started to head in their direction. The man shrugged, a weak smile on his face that seemed completely forced and unnatural on him.

“Everyone seems like a rookie to me.” He stated softly before continuing in a serious tone. ”I’ve been at this a long time. I’ve seen a lot but I got to tell ya, this ain’t lookin’ good. It isn’t really what was done, we have had creeps like this in the past but....” he trailed off, shoving his hands into his pocket which caused her eyebrow to raise.

“But?” She questioned, trying to push him along.

“Something doesn’t feel right. Silly, huh? Maybe it’s just in my head. I might be getting too old for this crap.” He sighed, running a hand through his hair before shaking his head. “I swear I actually came over to see how you have been.”

Juniper felt a soft smile tug at her lips before taking a sip of blissful heaven she held in her hand. “Oh? You been worried about little old me?”

“Yeah, yeah, go ahead and laugh. You just haven’t been around much. Was worried you had disappeared or worse.”

“I’ve been on a case and besides, you know Natalie would be on you like white on rice if anything happened to me.”

“Not all rice is white.”

“Oh? Would you rather I had said like stink on shit?” Juniper jested in return which cause a genuine laugh from the other.

“Touché.” Marcus replied, about to say something more but cut of by the sound of an engine and the boat getting ready to dock. “I won’t keep you. See you around, Juniper......be careful.” He stated, waving as he walked away, leaving her to climb onto the boat and wonder what he had wanted to say.

The ride was quick and pleasant but as they got closer to the ship, the more the hair on the back of her neck stood on end and her nerves became on edge. Juniper felt the need to be on defense, to search for an attacker that might pop out at any moment, and a streak of full on fear ate at her gut but that was only because of the darkness that clung to this area. It felt off, like nothing she had ever felt before and she finally understood what Marcus had been trying to get across. It was bad if a normal human had sensed this even a bit. This might be part of the reason Salem had been a bit off for her this morning but Juniper had blamed it on the lack of sleep, that she was being silly but now.....it seemed suspicious if nothing else. Instinct was something that shouldn’t be ignored. She had learned that the hard way a time or two. “Good to see you, Detective. Watch your step.”, was the greeting she was met with as she climbed up the ladder.

The coppery tang of blood filled her nostrils with each breath, the darkness suffocating and the flashing of cameras was completely disorienting. She wanted to back off and run away but she also felt stubborn, the rage that something or someone had mutilated and harmed an innocent human being in the dead of night. It was cowardly and without any honor in her opinion. She could understand the need for food or even something that was uncontrollable but this didn’t sound like that kind of case. Juniper let herself be lead, her mind going a million miles a minute as she got closer. The body was sprawled out on the deck, cut open, and it was clear to her that some bones if not organs were missing. The rain had washed away anything that could have probably been found around the body such as footprints if that would have even been a thing in the first place. There was no sign of a struggle, the death coming swift which was most likely a blessing. Witches came to mind but the feeling that hung in the air made her think, no. It had to be supernatural but to what, she didn’t know.

Miss?

Juniper frowned, feeling like this was gonna be a cold case for the police soon but she felt like it was only the beginning for her. The other man needed to be found but now, she could only hope he was still alive. The divers were trying their best but they didn’t have any clues for now. The trail was almost non existent and this would be close to impossible even for her. The thought she might have to tell the family she couldn’t find him was heartbreaking but this whole case just started more questions than providing answers.

Hello, Miss?

”Huh?” Juniper questioned, her eyes focusing back in as she had been lost in her memories. It took a few blinks to adjust back to where she was standing. The loud noises of the crowds outside, the laughter of the people, human or not enjoying their time at the festival just beyond. “Your order?” the man behind the counter asked, trying to be polite but obviously getting a bit frustrated with her at this point which caused a blush to rise to her cheeks.”Right, sorry, I’ll have the...um....”she bit her lip, her hand reaching up to play with the ends of her hair. Why did they have to have so many good flavors? It was practically impossible to choose.

Juniper shoved her hand into the pocket of her jeans, pulling out a quarter and giving it a quick flip in the air before catching it. Heads...alright. She did one more flip for the coin before catching it once more and nodding as she shoved it into her pants. Tails this time, sure thing. ”Can I get a scoop of the cookie dough and a scoop of the raspberry white chocolate swirl, please?”she asked. “Sure thing. Would you like a cup or a cone?” He asked making her almost groan in frustration. Why did they need so many things answered.”I guess a cone might be nice.” Juniper smiled gently, rubbing her arm softly as she tried to keep it off of her hair. “Sugar or waffle?” He continued to question, making Juniper start to wonder if he was punishing for waiting so long to order. ”Waffle will be fine, thank you.” she answered politely, only to start internally screaming as he asked yet another damn question. “Dipped or regular?” was the simple reply to her answer but all she wanted was to be out in the sun with her sweet treat.

”What do you suggest?” she purred, leaning a bit more on the counter which caused the man’s eyes to drop. He stared for much too long than what could be considered as appropriate if you didn’t want to be caught and in turn realized the mistake, looking a bit nervous all of a sudden but it had gotten the result she wanted, no more questions due to awkwardness. He wasn’t sure if he should apologize or answer her questions so instead, he let a nervous cough escaped him as he walked away, grabbing a chocolate dripped cone and starting to fill it with her double scooped choices. He handed it over the counter to her before heading to checkout, ringing her up quickly as she started to enjoy her sweet treat, lapping happily as she paid her fee.

She practically skipped out of the ice cream parlor and into the busy street filled with stalls. It was interesting to see what people put up to share. It was supposed to be a fun day for everyone so she was going to make the best of it. Juniper couldn’t change the shift in the air over Salem, no more than she could change that one man was missing and another had been murdered. She had control of how she acted today and there was no point in bringing others down. When it was time to deal with the situation then she would but for now, she could pretend to be normal. It was easier said than done, supernaturals would be around and likely hunters as well but she would not be any trouble to them if they didn’t trouble her. You get what you give. An eye for an eye in a sort of way. Hopefully, she could enjoy the day, see some fireworks even if it blinded her and maybe catch a drink later at The Cauldron since it was much deserved already.

Founder's Festival

October 1st 12:20pm | Interactions w/ Jeremy Lindall (@Rabidporcupine) and a text to Zaddy Azariah (@Hoekage)

Evren knew that she needed some more information, whatever that meant. There was something seriously wrong with Salem but she was a hunter, and she needed verification that her feelings were right. Amy had given her literally none of the information that she needed but she'd pointed Evren in the right direction by talking about her coven and telling her that some of them were trying to find out what was wrong too. Heading to the Founder's Festival sounded like a good plan for now as there would be no place that crawled with supernaturals more. They liked fun and humans...and the Founder's Festival had plenty of both. Last years festival evoked particularly fun memories for Evren as she'd managed to hunt down quite a few werewolves and a vampire or two who'd been too blind by their overindulgence to pay attention to a lone girl walking home at night. The satisfaction of a kill after a day of candy floss and carnival popcorn left a particularly sweet taste in her mouth. Maybe she'd get some luck today but again, she had to be quite careful. Whatever was haunting Salem might impact the supernaturals as well. If it made them stronger, then honestly, Evren worried that she really was going to go into retirement age a bit earlier than she expected. Maybe she wouldn't try anything particularly different today. Maybe she should just walk around the festival searching for more magic users and having a normal day out in the sun, even though it sounded amazingly boring Evren really would never take such a risk without a plan. And the plan had to include all the answers to her questions first.

As Evren stepped foot into the town square, she surveyed her surroundings before sighing to herself. There were too many people and too many booths for her to be able to zero in on supernaturals easily. But she had to try anyway. Reaching into her purse she drew out a piece of note paper, scanning the list of names she'd written down before drawing out a manila envelope of photos. Slowly matching up the names with the photos and other basic information she kept the people in mind as she threaded through the crowds. The magic users were always tricky with where they could be found at differnt times of day and Evren knew that no matter how much research she did, she would never be able to pin down exactly where a coven would meet or where the individuals would be during such a large event such as the Founder's Festival. Evren let herself drift along the crowd, casting glances at the different game booths on either side. Even though she would never admit it, she loved playing carnival games...and she loved all things Founder's Fair. Perhaps for a moment she felt lonely and being one who never went without a solution to her problem Evren drew out her phone from her pocket and drafted a quick text.

TO 🖤
Hey Azzy...I'm kinda bored. @ Founder's Festival. Come and get some cotton candy together?

Firing off the text before she though too much of it, Evren headed to the nearest stall where she could see a couple of odd looking trinkets. Maybe she even recognized the shopkeep's face.

Brushing up to the table, next to a man who was already there, she threw back a lock of her hair before giving the booth owner a shiny smile, widening her eyes as she drifted a hand over the stuff lying on the table. Something about this woman was familiar so maybe her target could be her daughter or something. Either way, they would belong in the same coven and she needed all the help she could get. Catching the tail end of the dark haired man's conversation with the woman she decided that she was going to involve herself.

"That book over there-" Evren pointed to a bound leather journal relatively close to the edge of the table "Is about hunters. Pesky, nosy little things, hunters are. Interesting characters, really. They're not as fun as witches and warlocks though. I mean...not as fun to read about." Evren winked at the man before turning to give the shop woman a level headed stare.

Ambrosia’s Mansion

October 1st, 12:30pm | Astrid’s Room | Vampire NPCs

Astrid sat up in her bed, curling her legs in to her chest, burying her face between her knees. Around her, was the comfort of her fellow coven members: Lilith, staring out the large, dark tinted window with her arms folded; Nicolai, pacing around the darkened room despite how many large windows occupied the walls; and Azazel, sitting opposite of Astrid with his fingers pinching the bridge of his nose. It was silent for quite some time, despite the breeze of the afternoon winds and the rustling of the dying leaves. The room possessed a somber aura, accompanied by colors of red, black, and gray with a dim, yellow light from the chandelier above. The tall windows were heavily tinted, since Astrid preferred her room to be dark with a very exact amount of natural lighting.

Nicolai broke the silence with an upbeat voice, hoping his optimism could eliminate the weight of the room, “It’s been some time since your last vision, Astrid. Maybe whatever the hell it was is gone!”

“Don’t be stupid, Nicolai,” Lilith’s stern and serious voice spoke immediately, “This is different than anything we’ve seen before. Astrid’s never been like this before.”

“Well, Lilith, I was just trying to lighten the mood a little bit. I want to be here for Astrid as much as you do, but let’s face it, there’s nothing we can really do about it except sit here and watch her suffer,” Nicolai replied in a hostile defense.

“If you would use your head then maybe we could piece together her visions and actually come up with some sort of answer,” Lilith instigated, turning her head to give him a deathly glare.

Nicolai furrowed his brows, roaming to lean along the edge of one of the windowsills, “No need to be so aggressive,” he replied in a low voice.

Lilith turned to fixate her gaze back onto the horizon, “If I could get my hands on whoever is causing this shit, I’d kill them in the blink of an eye. And so help me Lucifer, if this is a damned witch, I’d love to taste every last drop of their blood.”

Nicolai let out an agitated groan, “I hate this. We don’t even know what the hell she’s seeing. How could she possibly envision the whole city of Salem on fire. What if it’s just some sort of scary nightmare that she’s having.”

Lilith shook her head, “I hate to break it to you, but everything Astrid envisions tends to come true. The only scenarios where she doesn’t see her visions to fruition is when a new one comes to replace the old one.”

Nicolai flicked his hand dismissively towards Lilith, “You talk like you know what her powers even do.”

Lilith scoffed, “Yeah, whatever Mr. I-can-feel-people’s-emotions. None of us know the extent of her gift, so let’s just go with our best assumptions of it.”

“Yeah, let’s just assume that armageddon is totally in the near future,” Nicolai retorted sarcastically, “And don’t act like my gift isn’t real, I can totally feel the anger resonating off of you right now.”

“I’m always angry. And you better shut the fuck up before I make you.”

“Will you both just stop fucking talking,” Azazel finally spoke, his raspy voice overpowering theirs enough to cut the tension.

The silence returned and the ambience darkened with each passing moment. On a day designated for celebration, the four of them remained guarded and tactful. Astrid’s visions have been becoming more frequent since the events of last night. Every ten minutes, it was like a different image of death or flames, and she could feel every bit of it’s reality, scorching her skin and gnawing at her bones. Her painful screams grew weaker with each proceeding vision as her pain tolerance heightened with every expected horror she faced -- if it weren’t for her vampiric anatomy, she would’ve been dead by now. To their surprise, the next vision hadn’t come when it was expected; the silence was relieving. But only for a moment could it be enjoyed before Astrid’s body tensed, her head lifting as her eyes stared distantly to focus on her new vision. Her breaths began to become heavy in fear as her eyes would scatter, frantically, all around.

“Astrid?” Lilith rushed to her side, placing a gentle hand on her shoulder. Azazel and Nicolai assumed a defensive stance. “What do you see?”

Within a moment, Astrid was locked in her vision, her body calmed, her breaths evened out, but her gaze remained distant. It seemed the vision did not haunt her like her previous ones, depicting a different scenario taking place. Her soft voice broke, “I see five people in a dark room. I think it’s night time. No -- it’s still daylight, but there’s so much dark magic that I can’t see clearly. I --,”

Astrid’s face fell as her eyes fixated on one position. Lilith spoke, confused, “What is it Astrid?”

“It’s us. In this room. But we’re not alone.”

Lilith looked over her face to try to discern Astrid’s condition, “Are you okay?”

“Lilith,” Nicolai spoke, trying to get her attention.

“When do you think the vision took place,” Lilith persisted with Astrid.

“Lilith!” Nicolai shouted in an attempt to get her attention.

Lilith turned swift and was presented with Azazel and Nicolai standing between her and a mysterious entity adorned with a long coat and a wide-brimmed hat. The figure was tall and broad, emitting a dark, eerie presence so strong that utter darkness could almost be seen permeating off of him. Lilith stood up with a fierce expression, a protective hand still gently placed on Astrid’s shoulder.

The man lifted his head to reveal his dark skin, glowing red eyes, and black, patchy facial hair. As his eyes scrolled the room, his soft voice managed to echo with an intensity that caused chills within his audience, “You speak her name, yet she is nowhere to be found.”

“I’m right here,” Lilith spoke fearlessly, “Tell us who you are and why you came.”

“So demanding,” the man chuckled. He paused for a moment, “Tell me, were you named after her?”

“My name has nothing to do with this, now answer my question.”

The man let his expression fall flat and fearsome, his cracked lips laid straight and his eyes focused on Lilith. His glare was strong and sharp, worse than any blade or knife and surpassing the deadliness of any spider’s bite. One heavy step forward followed by an unsettling sigh, he finally sneered, wide enough to reveal the sharp fangs in his mouth, “I mean you no harm, as I am rather impressed by your very existence myself -- but the hostility is so unwelcoming.” Another step forward, his crimson eyes darting back and forth from Azazel and Nicolai, followed by a ghostly chant that echoed in whispers throughout the room, “To sleep with you.”

Nicolai fell abruptly, but Azazel still remained standing.

Lilith attempted to nudge Astrid back to reality, but her mind remained locked in a trance.

Within the blink of an eye, Azazel threw out a quick jab, landing directly on the man’s cheek. Azazel maneuvered to properly initiate another powerful strike of his fist while the man was staggered. Despite Azazel’s vampiric speed, it was still too slow and his fist was caught in a tight grip by the man’s hand. In one fluid movement, the man grabbed Azazel’s arm and threw him with force out of the window behind them. The glass shattered loudly as he spoke, “A resistant one, I see.”

Lilith’s continued nudging was finally halted since Astrid couldn’t shake the trance she remained in. Instead, she prepared to strike, and although her attacks were foreseen, her swiftness seemed to parallel the man’s own. A series of jabs, kicks, and uppercuts were thrown, all not a secure enough blow that would cause any significant damage. Instead, the man chanted once more, an unheard incantation as Lilith gasped for air and clenched her throat. She continued to choke, trying to take in oxygen, but her body simply would not allow. His voice rang again, “You are very feisty, you know. You remind me of the very woman I’m looking for -- you even have her name.” With that, Lilith would fall to the ground, her body contorting in pleading, helpless movements before she fell flat and still. He kneeled to her side, a hand caressing her face, “My name is Lucifer.” A flash of darkness encompassed the two of them, vanishing.

Salem, Massachusetts

At first glance, the young wolf portrayed innocence, seeming harmless and ordinary. Perhaps it was the way she licked her ice cream, or how her mismatched eyes held so much untold beauty, it was undeniably deceiving. Though, Leo’s magic could not be denied and she was very well of supernatural descent. Ambrosia had some trouble discerning the extent of how strong she could be, but regardless, the young wolf’s blood flowed with all the strength, vigor, and ferocity of a werewolf and she played a role in this game just as any other supernatural would.

Ambrosia approached quickly, fast enough that her movements were overlooked by any human eye. She stood, in her black dress and long, wavy brown hair with an indefinite aura of eerie darkness, much different than any usual vampire if the girl would be able to depict her race. They stood face to face, only long enough for Ambrosia to extend her hand to give the girl a piece of paper. And whether or not she took it, Ambrosia would release her grasp on the note and be gone within a flash.

“A rather odd occurrence I must say,” Leo mentioned to Ambrosia, “There are three magic-bearers in one area. It seems they are conversing.”

“Noted. And the girl, I assume, is human?” Ambrosia questioned, her hands shuffling the notes within her hands to properly order them based on her interactions with them.

“Correct, miss. Do be warned that they could be apart of the same coven.”

“Well,” Ambrosia started before a sigh, “Wish me luck!”

Ambrosia began her quick stride, and upon her arrival she immediately tried to see any signs of familiarity between the individuals. The younger two within the booth would obviously be more than mere acquaintances, but the man browsing didn’t seem comfortable in the social situation. Perhaps he was the odd one out. On the contrary, the young woman, whom was also browsing, seemed very interested. Maybe she was simply curious about the wares of the booth.

"Pesky, nosy little things, hunters are. Interesting characters, really. They're not as fun as witches and warlocks though. I mean...not as fun to read about."

Strange. Ambrosia thought to herself, but sought to ignore her assumptions to better focus on the matter at hand. Within an instant, Ambrosia would appear swiftly, trickling into the group from the crowd of people that strolled by the booth. She first faced the young man browsing the wares, a very faint, but still present, magical affinity resonating from him to indicate his magic-bearing heritage. Ambrosia grabbed his hand gently, the vast temperature difference becoming apparent as her cold touch maneuvered the note within his hand.

A quick turn and she was quickly melded back into the crowd, only to reemerge behind the booth to quietly approach the younger two magic-users that worked the booth. In subtle, rapid movements, the notes would appear in their hands, the sharp corners of the thick paper pressing against their palms without trace of how they’ve gotten there, unless their eyesight was somehow keen enough to notice Ambrosia’s quick speed.

Salem, Massachusetts

The park became increasingly more lively as the night went on. The sun had begun to set, casting it’s final, warm glow of oranges and yellows, a small glimmer left of the fiery orb descending behind the steeple of Salem’s cathedral. The eerie ambiance had not yet lifted from Salem, nor did it get even a little bit better; instead, it came boasting with the impending night. Regardless, Salem’s citizens casted the strange feeling aside, and they still found it in them to celebrate with full hearts on such an odd day. Kids ran around with glow sticks and hand-held fireworks, parents and families all working to set up a comfortable area with chairs and blankets, businesses had begun to close up shop while bars and restaurants prepared for the rush of people once the fireworks show had ended, and the supernaturals—what of them?

Azariah stared blankly at the sky, watching how the waxing moon would increase in it’s opacity with each passing moment, as the sunset became dominated by the darkness of night. The process could be considered long and boring—the way time passes slowly when you are waiting for something to happen, like the moon’s full glow and the presence of the stars. Azariah stood leaning against the cathedral that sat at the edge of the park, opposite to the dock and the choppy water of the ocean. He had a great view from here, standing on the highest point of the slope to see how the buildings and businesses on either side ran parallel to each other, right up until the docks.

There, he waited for an opportunity to enter the crowd, but he was quickly interrupted, first, by her presence, and second, by her cold, gentle touch upon his arm. Without turning around to see her, Azariah already casted his greeting, “Mrs. Sanguis—I wasn’t expecting to see you tonight.”

There was a moment of silence before she could speak, “Azariah, there are very pressing matters that I believe I should discuss with you.”

“Straight to it, then, huh?” Azariah smirked, turning around to face her with a warming and welcoming expression. Such expression was quickly dropped once he deciphered the worry and sadness on her face. Although the two are acquainted and have established a truce between her coven and his wolf pack, that was slowly growing into a budding alliance, he still did not approach with comfort. But, perhaps it was who she is, rather than their history, that was twisted and tangled with decades of rivalry and distaste.

Ambrosia stood straight, her piercing gaze looking into his eyes with sincerity, “Listen to me very carefully, because I do not have much time to explain. This friday I will be hosting an event with the others, and I believe it is in your best interest to make an appearance as we are facing a potential threat like no other that we’ve encountered before.”

Azariah’s face began to mimic hers, full of confusion and stress. He couldn’t deny her foretelling. Their lives were so susceptible to threats and danger that the truth in words could only ring true. He nodded, “Okay. Okay, okay. So what I’m feeling—what my wolves are feeling—it isn’t just false superstition.”

“Oh, Azariah,” Ambrosia chuckled, a soft smile peeking between her somber expressions, but only for a short moment, “Why do I feel that you don’t believe in your superstitions because of your self-doubt?”

Azariah rubbed the back of his neck, followed by a shy shrug, “Overconfidence can make a leader lead his people astray.”

“Well, it is not false,” Ambrosia confirmed, placing another cool hand on his, “He is out here somewhere, and we need to be more careful until we all meet. Things are starting to move and they are moving quickly, so you must tread carefully.”

“Wait, who is he,” Azariah tried to get her from speaking in pieces.

Ambrosia lifted her dark, golden eyes from his, staring blankly into the distance as she began to feel the weight of her words, “Lucifer. He came for them—for my coven. Lately, my dear Astrid has been receiving such constant, gruesome visions of an inevitable doom. They stayed to comfort her while I came looking for assistance, but I do not have the time to discuss with everybody, so I gave them a note to invite them to my home on friday night. I know that this strange aura cannot be denied by us and I know that we all feel it stronger than any normal human would. We all play a strange role in this and I need to get to the bottom of this.” Ambrosia became more and more assertive and protective as the words came from her lips.

Azariah tried to see the clarity with her words, but the confusion still lingered, “I will be there, and I will make sure my pack is safe.”

“They took her, Azariah,” Ambrosia retorted abruptly, “They took one of my vampires, and I will not leave her in the hands of him. He took her and I do not doubt that he will be coming for any one of us next.” Ambrosia took a small step back, her eyes moving to his hands, “I’m sorry, did I interrupt something?”

Azariah looked down, forgetting about the beautiful bouquet of flowers and pink cotton candy in his hands, arranged excellently and strategically to impress any individual. He touched one of his fingers to the bulb of a red rose, but he could picture the bloodshed of battle and the feeling of failure; the anticipation of danger came pouring into him. For a moment, he saw flashes of her—her strawberry blonde hair, her enchanting smile, and the way she gave such alluring looks—but he couldn’t deny his duty—his leadership. He looked up to Ambrosia, but she was already gone, without a trace.

Azariah glanced to the sky, seeing that the night had already taken it’s dominance. He took out his phone to send a quick text message.

To: Ev
I’m sorry for the late reply, but it’s looking like I’ll be caught up with family shenanigans tonight. I’ll make it up to you, I swear ;) Maybe we can go out for dinner soon?

Azariah’s mind began to come together, taking her words into immediate consideration. He couldn’t quite track or speak telepathically well enough to warn the rest of his pack, so he schemed a quick plan to ensure the safety of them. ‘Juniper’, he mumbled under his breath, dropping the arrangement in his hands and turning on his heel to enter the crowd of people. The first boom of the fireworks echoed as the cheer of people followed. The explosions of light flashing in the sky.

She stood off to the side of the crowd that filled the streets, debating on what she should do or try next. It wasn’t like she had anyone to join her today as they were either running booths, tending to shops, out with loved ones or plain said she was crazy for going in the first place. It meant she was free to do as she pleased and it wasn’t as though she minded some time to herself but it still would have been more fun with someone else to join her. Juniper sighed, about to step into the flow of people to let her feet or the crowd take her where it may when she caught a flash of movement caught her attention which caused her eyes to widen in shock, the hair on the back of her neck stand on in and she found herself tempted to move in a defensive position but forcibly kept still to see what the stranger would do. A woman stood before her, her body language holding no hostile intent but her aura caused a shiver to crawl down her spin as if a bucket of ice water had doused her. It wasn’t the same one that had settled in on this town but it still held an eerie darkness that had nothing to do with the brown haired woman’s supernatural race. A soft touch of her hand was all she felt, her fingers instinctively curling around the object placed there and then the woman was gone, a fluttering sound from the black dress she wore being the only signal of departure.

The sounds of the crowd filtered back into her ears, unknowingly having been blocked out to focus in on the strange vampiric woman the had approached her. Juniper slowly brought her hand out in front of her, mismatched eyes gazing at the paper still held lightly in her grip before glancing around and shoving the small item in the pocket of her jeans. It wasn’t like she could unfold the note without making a mess everywhere so it would have to wait till at least the ice cream was gone. She silently cursed herself for getting a cone now since a cup would have been easy to set down. If there was one thing she could resist, it was a good mystery and this kind of felt like she had been handed one on a silver platter if you didn’t count the clusterfuck of a case she had gotten that same morning. This was shaping up to be an odd day.

Juniper claimed a spot away from the mass of people, laying back in the damp grass and gazing at the note once more. ’Mrs. Sanguis, huh?’, she thought and debated on what she should do. It would be wise to go to her leader, see what he had to say about it but at the same time....she wanted to go to the meeting. This note hinted that this vampire felt what she had. That she wasn’t crazy in the feelings of darkness that clung to the air. What if he said no? She frowned, covering her eyes for a moment with a soft growl of frustration before the loud bang of the first firework along with the first round of clapping and cheers. Her arm flopped back down, moving to cover her ears a bit to defend from the noise but it was worth it for the dazzling display of colors which gave her a soft smile.

’I’ve made up my mind. I’m going.’, she thought to herself, pushing up to a seated position and suddenly freezing. He was searching for her. Shit, how did he even know!? Did he just sense when one of them wanted to go rouge or something? Juniper shook her head, standing up and moving to the dense tree line, needing to be hidden from sight. ’Sorry Azariah...I can’t chance that you will deny my wishes.’ She waited until she was a good distance from the festivities before bending down to take off her shoes. They would have to be left behind, too bulky to carry in her mouth while everything else would be fine. It would be a pain to find them again but it was a small price to pay in her opinion. Juniper pulled the hair tie from her pocket, rolling it onto her wrist before yanking of her shirt and making quick work of the other garments. She carefully wrapped up her undergarments in the respective shirt and pants before folding the items into what looked like a sushi roll, using her hair tie to keep its shape. It wasn’t the best solution but desperate times call for desperate measures and since she was being searched for, she needed to move faster.

Juniper took a deep breath, letting her bones shift and crack as they moved to their new locations which eventually caused her to crouch. The cold of the air didn’t affect her skin anymore as it was replaced with a coat of pure white. Body parts receded and some grew out until all that was left was a wolf, who did a quick shake of her new form before picking up the bundle she made. The taste of jean in her mouth was not pleasant by any means so she sprinted, planning to make it to the destination as quickly as possible. It was quite the exhilarating run, one that took a little more time than she had hoped for but it wasn’t surprising that it would be out of the way from the normal bustle of the town. She found herself at the doorstep, jumping up on her hinge legs to press the doorbell with her paw before sitting politely and waiting. Everything about this place had her on edge, not just because she could be willingly walking into the lions den but because this kind of place was not her scene. Juniper wouldn’t know what to do in a place like this. She was more on the simplistic side than that of elegance. It make her feel awkward just being on the porch.

She was sure they were expecting her human self but this seemed like the best way to be. She wasn’t sure if this Mrs. Sanguis had invited just her or not and she wasn’t willing to give up her peaceful life for strangers. Sure, some might know she was a werewolf in this form but if they didn’t then people tended to say more than they should when they thought no one could listen or they were more relaxed with having what they thought was a trained animal nearby. It could be helpful either way, she didn’t mind comforting others but information was always nicer. It wasn’t like she didn’t bring her clothes with her so if she needed to be human then she could be and wouldn’t be too much of a problem to use at least the bathroom for that process. It would be a sad day when a mansion had every room occupied, well, maybe a nightmare depending on if this was a trap. ’Guess I’m about to find out either way.’
