@jimapple Seems like we're stuck with eachother then! And as been mentioned before, it seems like our races wouldn't exactly get along, unless something happens to change along the way. Some greater threat that forces our races to halt their hostilities and turn to some sort of uneasy alliance.

Something like... hm... husks. Wink wink, Slyboy. I'd totally be up for 'darker' creatures to roam the continents too. Some grimdark shit to really hammer it home that we're at the cradle of civilization, but that we're still not the apex predators in this world.

Also, since my people aren't exactly turbo-genetic warriors like the dragonpeople, I'd be totally willing to accept my defeat provided it's at the hand of a narratively fulfilling ending. That said, I don't think it'd be that easy to kick me out of the RP, so would @6slyboy6 find it permissible that if the "Forest"folk (fuck my luck) were to find their untimely demise sooner or later, that it would be possible to join up with another primitive people? I don't mind the handicap of starting from scratch when the rest would already be more advanced (I could get uplifted by some of the nice folk in here if need be).

EDIT: Also, this is the first time in years that an RP has motivated me to get out of bed at 7.30AM rather than the 12PM I am accustomed to nowadays. Thank you slyboy for making something that actually temporarily cured my depression, lol.

Can't wait for populations to hit city status and we all start getting attack by goblins and orcs.

Nothing stirs the pot quite like demons, goblins, orcs, and every other kind of fantasy monster!

@Odin Hehe, your welcome buddy! It's been a little idea of mine that I've had in the back of my mind forever, because who doesn't like the idea of writing down the smallest details about a made up race X3

I thought only I was crazy enough to get excited over writing smaller novels about things that don't exist, but I'm glad to see so many people are masochists like me who truly hate their finger joints

And you will absolutely have tons of creatures trying to kill you, don't worry. I'm giving you guys a little "grace period" at the beginning before I start throwing my entire arsenal at you guys as well as giving you more tools. As mentioned before, I will add magic later into the RP which will be a very significant event, but I don't want to spil it just yet :D

And in case you do end up dying (even if "god" mystically smites all your enemies), then I'll give anyone the choice to start anew with a new race of their choosing in a new region as either a newly uplifted race who was hiding or as a group of refugees who made the treacherous route across the oceans and made it to the Continent to settle down. Or you can awlays choose to play a subsection of someone else's race and make it so iT's not only stoopid humans who have infighting and hundreds of kingdoms haha

@Caelum Don't jinx it! You guys aren't the only ones who live on the Continent ;D

Edit: And also, yeah, I'm hyped too. It has been ages since I really got invested in this forum, but now that I have a abtch of interested palyers and some free time, i feel like the good old times, refreshing the page every 5 minutes and not even sleeping because I'm brainstorming stuff haha

I don't think it would be good story telling to wipe out an entire race way too early in a game. And I'm sure we can make something work that still keeps with our races' IG interests.

@jimapple Oh yeah, absolutely. This is mostly a storytelling RP, I want nobody to feel like they need to "win" at the game, but rather to have a fun time and tell interesting stories and build up a great world together. So you might just get a dragon ghandi to tell his people to calm their tits down and go hug some totally not dark eldar like they mean it. Make a little flower crown as well and carve a wooden heart that says "best buddies for life" while you're at it. Yessss...that sounds great~

I like the sex differences between the Cuetz, kind of like they're evolutionary traits where the males scales attract females.

@Raylah Maybe so, but every human alive right now comes from the womb of a single mother, our ancestral "Eve". So give or take 3-4 mates (('m just compeltely guessing) for said human ancestor, that's about 5 people whose genetic codes we share to one extent. And at leats one of them is an incredibly prominent one as it was the only female gene in that. Honestly, 12 people should be more than enough for a wide variety of genetic materials, as long as you doN't shy away from poligamy

I dont want to get into meaningless debates, but this is actually not true. It is true that all life on Earth does have origin in Africa, and it has been proven by genetic tests that it originates from one migration wave. But that was a wave of many people, not just one couple, or even one woman with multiple partners. Also it has been calculated (for space colonization purposes), that a minimal amount of people to start a healthy population is around 160. With strict social engineering you could get to about 80, but not lower.
But it doesnt really matter, since we have ant people and moth people, I think it is safe to omit this part of science xD.

What I wanted to ask about is how long the turns are going to be? Because if the turn took lets say one year (I think you said somewhere there should not be any two-year journeys in one turn, so I am just guessing), it would still take dozens of turns to pass several generations. Even if the species had shorter lifespans and matured at a very young age, it would take a long time to grow the population enough to be able to utilize new technologies.

Also while I like the idea of the blind map, I think in this particular case it might cause some problems. Lets say I have a race of frog people who live on floating lilipads and I pick a spot in the lake for them. And you tell me "yea that lake is in super high altitude, so it is actually frozen most of the year and also there are some poisonous elements in the water thanks to a nearby volcano". That just wouldnt work. At this point in history, the enviroment shapes the life, not the other way around, and if the species is not able to survive in their enviroment, they either die out or move somewhere else, if such location exists. If I understand the premise correctly, the species didnt just magically suddenly appeared there, they evolved in that spot.

All that saying, I would love to join, so here are my frog people living on floating lilipads :D.

@Raylah so purely out of interest, do you have more info on the 160-80 people rule? I'd love to know what the specific mechanics are for that but I have no idea where to look for that kind of scientific paper (mostly because my academia is mostly focused around, like, pseudo-sciences like criminology and psychology and not actual science, lmao, so I have no idea where to start).

@Raylah
No one:
Absolutely no one:
You: I don't want to get into a meaningles debate, BUT-

proceeds to throw wikipedia link at you

I studied biology and geography, I know very well how this works. But it's not supposed to be the next evolution simulator 2019, I prefer it this way because you might come up with a very strict idea about your race, and this early starts loosens and shakes it up, which is good for an RP that is all about you having to adapt and do things step by step, instead of following a mental checklist.

And all the lakes on the map are low lying ones. In fact, they are the only ones on the map... which is weird, I honestly wanted more lakes. So feel free to come up with those, these are just the big ones I shall assume.

Now for your sheet, I like the frog people idea, we can never have enough amphibians. But as far as things go, I'd take out the "building huts" part since none of that is established yet. Think of this as the inception of biblical mankind as "oh shit, I have a sense of self now, I need a place to stay but I have no knowledge of anything". Your people should just become more than animals about now, so if they have floating houses and rafts and use spears with poison tips, they they are pretty much already hundreds if not thousands of years in front of everyone else as the RP says so.

And for the turn concerns, well, they won't always be the same. I will say at the beginning of every turn how long it is, we'll start slow at the beginning to have a better look at a smaller group to get a sense of the individuals then we will speed it up to progress time. So it woN't be an absolute slog, don't worry, but I don't have a concrete idea in mind yet. We'll have to see about that. It will be trial and error I guess

@Odin Honestly I came across it in a random article, I think it was this one. There are some Harvard studies mentioned here that estimate the number as high as 14 000. It very much depends on the situation - if you take an exctinction type event that destroys most of the population on Earth, than you have a problem even with the 14 000, since people who survived are probably scattered around the globe and will have problems finding mating partners. Also if the infrastructure isnt in place, your people's lifespan will be much shorter (which of the people today really know how to make antibiotics out of nothing or how to take out person's appendix without killing them). The space pioneers mission calculations are much lower because people will be handpicked with needed specializations (and according to other aspects like age, fertility, hereditary diseases, etc.) and they will have all the tools and knowledge and technology available.

@6slyboy6 Ok, I have no problem with taking the spears out, that was just an immediate wild idea. And by the huts I meant something similar to the bird nests - if you have some twigs and branches intertwined, you will have some space between them, so you just stuff some things in there to make a "den", maybe that would be a better word to use for it?

@Raylah I suppose that means that by handpicking specific people with specific genetic traits and specific skills, you can basically min-max the amount of people needed for the highest chance of diversity. Whereas in an extinction level event, every Bob, Joe, and Marie need to procreate, and Bob and Joe are both farmers, and Marie is their cousin.

Also, I think the den you're referring to might be similar to the den of a beaver? This might be a dope way for the earliest amphibious civilizations to live at the start.

@Odin Exactly. And while there might be an Anna alive, who would genetically be an ideal partner for Bob, she lives a few hundred miles away, and even if Bob knew she existed, he doesnt have time to go to her, because he has to work on his farm otherwise he will starve to death.
And yes, that is what I had in mind, only it is not grounded to the lake floor, but rather floating around.

@Raylah I have to admit I did not put a whole lot of thought into where my race would live, but I presume it is something akin to what the original hunter-gatherer OG's lived in. Ugg ugg if me make fire big, tent burn down.
