I'm asking for advice, and I'm not sure if I'm asking in the right forum, but I'm curious about something.

I have been roleplaying for ten years and I've been capable of writing 2,000 words and maybe more. Sometimes, when I'm inspired, I tend to go a bit overboard with the right. I'm not sure if it would count as a casual, advance, or what. What do you think I'd be?

Iunno.

None of those terms actually mean much of anything beyond what you want them to mean. In the end you're what you consider yourself to be. I mainly hang out in the Casual section because it's the one-stop-shop for every different kind of RP and nothing generally passes by in Advanced or Free that catches my interest.

You shouldn't really constrict yourself to a label and instead just dick around, being what you are. I've seen a guy posting in Advanced with posts that I'd barely define as being worthy of casual, but I've also seen casuals go way above and beyond with their posts (hell I know of a casual RP that casually drops like 12+ paragraphs per post, per player).

The three sections on this site are more communities of people that RP different stuff more than anything. I'm amazed this level of separation has even persisted throughout the years, as other RPing sites I've seen just lump everything together under one umbrella (for the worse imo; stuff is consistently lower quality)

You're mostly a 1x1 RPer, though, so this stuff matters even less to you than it does to most of the site.

Yeah, I am a 1x1 roleplayer, and it probably shouldn't matter. Sometimes I can't help but write a lot when I'm inspired.

2k words plus, by the abstract metrics of the site that have built on the far weaker metrics provided by the forum descriptions, would place you in the 'advanced' category provided those are 2k words of substance. It doesn't really matter, but yeah, that's the level I'd put you in.

If you're only doing 1x1 then it doesn't matter. As for figuring out what sort of RPer you are, read some interest checks from all 3 sections and see which style of writing suits you the best.

My personal 2 cents tho: quality is all about the group of players you have in your particular RP. The Casual section specifically is a great example. There are Casual Rps that are on the low end (although I wouldn't call them close to Free cause Free is its whole own ball game) and there are Casual RPs that tend toward what you'd consider Advanced. Personally I don't go into the Advanced section much cause even though I have no problem writing at that level, there seems to be a lot of pretentiousness in the Advanced section that you don't get in Casual, even though you can get the same quality. Do with that info what you will, lol.

It's a very subjective term, really. What is actually "advanced" is as changeable as underwear, unless you try to use an objective scale - at which point, good luck making that scale the standard.

I feel like multiple replies so far have missed the scope of the OP.

Given everything is lumped in casual these days, I'd just say casual with an advanced leaning. If we want to go with the fancy terms that people have came up with, it'd probably be high-casual or low-advanced.

Then again, as said by others, you mainly RP in the 1x1 section so whatever category you fit in doesn't really matter.

Well my two cents on this is I think it more of less what you feel is comfortable to you. In my experience I have been around the 1x1 section more with the occasional dip in the casual section and one time in the free section. I feel I'm at a mid-casual to high with capable learning without needing the flashy aspects of a label. I never really dipped into the advanced roleplay of RPG considering how momentum and morale can really swing overall for everyone here and plus I felt advanced was out of my comfort zone really. Even though I labeled myself as a mid to high casual with an potential for advanced I don't think labels matter really.

You both have a point. I have written up to 2,000 words before, and it could count as a high casual roleplayer even though I’m a 1x1 roleplayer. I also have had 10 years of experience in roleplaying as well. I’d probably say around casual as @rebornfan320 mentioned.

"Up to" says very little. It's what you usually do and, in my book, how much you reasonably advance the story in that word count that is more enlightening. I assumed up to was a regular thing, but you're leaning pretty heavily in that past tense there, so who knows.

I am personally of the mind that free, advanced, and casual, are defined not by the length of their products, but by the quality of their work; common sentiment. I would recommend you don't size yourself and your skills up merely by how long you can write, but how intricate it is, and how well it flows. Cleverness in linguistics and avoiding the common mishaps in writing are what really defines a person to me, and really should be how it is for everyone frankly.

Explaining things quickly, and concisely, much like in science, is equally so in writing, a hallmark of skill in my eyes. There're times where one should pay close attention to detail, and other times where one ought to focus on the more esoteric. Ultimately, it is all about how synergetic you are with the story itself.

I feel like a lot of writers need to hear a lot that the hallmarks of writing aren't about how much you can churn out, but rather how well you churn it out.

So at risk of avoiding your question, but really just because I think confining oneself to simple classification is just a wrong perspective, you ought to identify yourself as you see fit. "I'm a writer with adequate experience and an interest in the hobby," is an equally acceptable description as "I'm low-casual" or whatever else.
