Appearance
Why the long face? He was born with it. This fairly slender young man is probably taller than you. Soft black hair, forest green eyes and a mediterranian tan. David prefers simple sturdy clothes in colors of black and green mostly. Though darker shades of other colors sometimes make it to his wardrobe. Leather addict. Boots, belts, wristbands, you name it. You know those kids with shirts that are way too long to be called shirt? Yeah he likes that too.
He never was much into jewelry. Too fancy for him. But after giving it some tought, his older half-sister Cori, was able to craft something for him that he likes: an iron ring. Simple, unadorned. He likes the material. He wears it on his right hand.
You can also often find him with a black two-headed puppy called Twilight. Apparently the offspring of Kerberos, named after his uncle Orthros, with the respective heads called Dusk and Dawn.
Personality
✔Intelligent ✔Empathic ✔Animal Friend ✔Grounded ✔Independent
✖Distant ✖Fatalistic ✖Dissapointed ✖Compulsive ✖Bipolar
David generally watches calmly before speaking or acting. Observing intentions in repeated behavior, instead of just going on what someone says. Most of the time, he can have a calming effect on people. Sometimes with words, but mostly with presence.
He prefers a small group of trustworthy friends over being a social butterfly. He's not drawn to big groups of people or the center of attention. Rather to the silent people. Either intrigued by what they would be thinking, or inclined to comfort a lost soul by the wayside.
He rarely loses his balance, but when he does, things can escalate. Outbursts of anger or despair, destructive behavior. Agression towards others, self-harm, it can take many shapes.
David is terribly ashamed by this side of himself, and tries to prevent any such disruption, by leading an orderly life. Retreating into the woods occasionally to get some rest and solitude. Smell the earth and the trees. Sit by the lake. And talk to Twilight. It's mostly Dawn that he has the best relation to, but during his 'bad' episodes, it's Dusk that he connects to. So he tries to talk to Dusk before that happens, in the hopes that it helps.
There's other reasons he goes into the woods and to the lake. One is the animals and mythical creatures that dwell there. From monsters to fairies, he enjoys their company. The other reason lies not too far from the first. He hopes to meet a specific kind of mythical creature, that he has fallen in love with a long time ago: a nymph.
History
When David's grandparents and his uncle -still a teenager at that time- all died in a car crash, his mother was suddenly orphaned and left alone, at the young age of eighteen. She often visited their graves and talked to them in her dreams. Somewhere in that dreamworld, she caught the attention of Hades. First remorseful for the role he played in all this, he tried to comfort her. But as first contact was made, soon enough he fell in love with this beautiful young woman.
It didn't take long before they ended up having a child together. To David, the whole situation seemed fairly twisted. Not knowing how to feel about his mostly absent father, he played along anyway. On rare occasion, he visited the underworld. Where he once met his half-sister Marcella, who seemed to have a way better time there.
Other than his father being the god of death, David grew up fairly normal. There were enough other kids with divorced parents that visited their father every other weekend, to not make it suspicious. He went to school, had some friends. Faced puberty, got rejected by this girl he was in love with, got over it. About to graduate from high school. All normal so far.
But from there on, things turned ugly. His mother had always gotten by with the help of Hades' gifts. It had attracted suspicion more than once, but never anything serious. Until there was a gang of criminals that had started stalking her and found out she dug up gold every now and then, in the middle of the night at the graveyard. It would've been better if the police had found her. It didn't take long before she got killed.
David cursed his father, but after a few weeks of sleeping on his friend's couch, he decided it was time to visit his mother. In the underworld. Back at the graveyard he stood before her grave and stepped forward. The earth swallowed him, but he was unafraid.
Months he had spend in the underworld. Ignoring Hades mostly, and the rare visit of another half-sibling. -There was almost none that didn't have a twisted relationship to their father, except for daddy's little girl, Marcella- He just wanted to talk to his mother, until everything was said and she wanted him to move on. But he didn't. He had grown fond of Kerberos, the three-headed monster dog that growled at everyone but him. When David was around, Kerberos lay on his back, waiting for his belly to be rubbed. David also met Persephone, who was a relief to talk to. She seemed to understand his struggles with his father. But in the end she was also his wife so not a complete ally in this either. The harem-like situation his father had created for himself, also didn't sit well with David. Now his mother had to be down here for all eternity, watching Hades live with his “real” wife.
Without any plans in life, it seemed like he was going to stay in the underworld forever, among other tormented souls, among other devilish creatures, hiding for the sunlight and any real responsibilities, holding on to his mother's death, begrudging his father, living in his basement. And playing with the dog ofcourse.
Until he met another half-sister of him: Corinthe. Apparently it had cost her a great deal to reach the underworld, and it dawned on David that apparently most Hades children had never been here. She had a mission, related to something going on aboveground, and of importance to the entire pantheon. And she had brought a son of Zeus and a daughter of Poseidon with her. Children of the big three.
Inspired by the bigger thing that she seemed to be part of, her defiance of their father when she spoke to him, the power that she radiated, and the rest of the world that she brought into his hiding place, David was once again brought to life.
It was briefly that they spoke, before she left again. But she told him to attend Olympos Academy and meet her there. And so he did.
That was four years ago. And life had gained direction again. Cori wasn't around as much as he had hoped. Apparently she was on all sorts of missions now. Involved in all kinds of divine conflict.
But there were other friends on Campus. And Marcella was actually quite nice, as long as their father wasn't mentioned.
One day Cori returned to the Academy with a two-headed puppy. A gift from Hades. She couldn't take care for him much, as she was away all the time, so she left him in David's care.
"My only child that can come and go to the underworld as he pleases, and he never wants to visit." —
Hades
Godly Parent
Hades, god of death and king of the underworld
Relationship With Godly Parent
David hold's a grudge, though he's not quite clear about what for exactly. When asked he would probably say it's a combination of things. Like getting his mother killed. While Hades would argue that he was only helping her out. On the other hand, Hades and his children are the only family David has left now. He has noticed that his half-sisters get the same treatment as his mother, money-wise. It makes him sick. Maybe it's that Hades gets that David wouldn't accept his help anyway, or perhaps he holds a different standard for his sons than for his daughters, but David does'nt get any precious metals from the earth. He wouldn't try for it either. It seems like both father and son are too proud to initiate contact between them.
Demigod Abilities
Hellhole – David has the rare ability to travel to and from the underworld at will. He needs to travel through the ground, though. So he needs to be in contact with the earth. Another essential to travel to the underworld: Something or someone that died recently.
Fiend Friend – Monsters are his friends. Simple as that. Perhaps they recognize some abysmal authority or maybe they just see one of their kind in him.
