PERSONAL ACCOUNT
NAME: Nyx Vivid Halo
GENDER: Nonbinary, after all, beauty truly knows no gender.
DEPARTMENT: Health and Beauty
AGE: 25
APPEARANCE:
Halo’s style differs from a lot of the other residents of H&B. Rather than attempting to match and go beyond the beauty of the idols pictured in the advertisements, they wish to display the true beauty of the products themselves, since after all, they’re among the only ones who are allowed to use them- properly at least. They love geometric lines and bold pigments, and anything exaggerated.
They are tall and fairly thin, with an overall flat body shape. Their legs are longer than their torso slightly, but their arms are certainly unnaturally long, almost certainly the result of some strange surgical procedure, especially considering the slightly different skin tone of their lower arms and hands? But they usually wear clothing that covers the scars from the surgery. They also have scars across the bottom of their chest. They also have a good deal of tattoos, most of them being abstract collections of lines and shapes, or based off of things you’d see on makeup packaging.
Their clothing consists of mainly black and grey tones, with occasional accent colors. They like half unbuttoned button-up shirts, long cloak-like jackets, tight-fitting pants, and fashionable high heels, generally speaking.
RESUME
“I’ll tell the story myself, since nobody else could possibly be competent enough to cover this part.
I’ve always lived in Health and Beauty. Ever since I was little, everyone around me always asserted that this was the best place in the Wal. I mean, how could it not be? We have everything we want here, as much medical supplies as necessary. Everyone is gorgeous, we get everything basically hand delivered to us by those below us. Its great.
About that last point. That’s a little bit where my trouble begins. Nyx Cosmetics, the particular group I belong to, is really known for the monstrosities they have the doctors make for them. Most people don’t care what happens to the uglies when they get sent off. Most people don’t care about the uglies at all. They’re no different, except they have very specific visions for what they want to happen with the uglies when they send them off. There are many, many Freaks around because of this. What used to be people and that are now basically monsters. Some of them are more sane than others. I grew up all around these creatures, and while many don’t pay them much attention.
I was a peculiar kid though, I actually made friends with one. She was an angel, or was supposed to be one I guess. Her face was covered in eyes, and she had wings on her head, on her wrists, on her neck- nowhere where they were supposed to be and certainly not serving any purpose. She was one of the most successful “freaks” they’d ever had made, and while she was absolutely terrifying I found her strangely beautiful.
We became somewhat close, mainly because I was the only one who really treated her like a person and not a servant or beast. She confessed to me that she had thought doing all this, working for the FabGlams, getting sent to the doctor, all of that- would make her beautiful. She really believed it, and in the end realized it wasn’t true. The only reason she stuck around was because she didn’t know where else to go and wanted to try to warn people of what would actually happen to them.
This was all when I was pretty young, so I took it to heart. I felt bad for the other “uglies” as they reminded me of her. As I grew to develop my own style, it was unconventional, even as far as the Nyx family goes. I didn’t relate to the other FabGlams as much as maybe I wanted to, and in an odd way I found that to be okay. I didn’t really want to rise up in the ranks and be responsible for harming more people. In fact I started to sympathize with the “uglies” so much that I even decided on altering my arms, making myself less beautiful in the eyes of others. As far as I’m concerned, I love the alterations I’ve done.
But not everyone has such tastes, and really there are parts I regret. I’m not sure if it’s just the methods or the nature of the procedure or what. But it caused pains that have decided to linger around and almost seem to be getting continually worse. I started taking Pain-B-Gone while I was recovering from my surgeries, and found that I needed to take it a long while after the procedure.. And then I needed more. And I still kept taking it. And I kept taking more. Soon enough, I was dependant. Or addicted. Maybe both. Point is, I can’t live without the shit. But that’s not abnormal, I guess. Everyone has some addiction here.
The real source of my problems was a serious offense to the way things operate in H&B. I may or may not have told a few of the “uglies” I was working with that they didn’t need to eat the products they received. In fact, I suggested that it might be better if they didn’t. Just hinted, didn’t tell them exactly what to do. As you can imagine, this didn’t end great. Luckily, the effects weren’t so bad, but definitely bad enough to put me in even worse standing than before. Pretty soon nobody would speak to me. Living basically in isolation, I decided something had to change.
Somewhere in the Wal there must be something better for me.”
RECEIPT
PERSONAL GOAL: To find a place they feel like they belong. Ignored and nearly outcast by their department and disliking the functionings of the society they were raised in, they seek to find a community they can feel welcome in.
LIKES:
⟡Anything Colorful, especially when it involves contrasting colors.
⟡Interesting, Unique People (Which currently is anyone and everyone because they’ve never been out of their department.)
⟡Small animals - They’re fascinated by them.
⟡Black Lipstick
⟡ Although not well known, they have a love for quiet spaces and long conversations with those they are close with.
DISLIKES:
⟡Uncleanliness, especially when it's due to the lack of available cleaning/hygiene products.
⟡Being stared at. (“I get it, okay? We all look kinda strange here. You don’t have to stare.”)
⟡Asymmetrical eyeliner
⟡Being unprepared, having little supplies.
⟡Neutral eyeshadow colors
⟡Migraines, which come somewhat frequently for them.
⟡Other FabGlams, and really anyone willing to manipulate people to get to the top.
REPUTE: Among the FabGlams, they are almost something of an outcast. With their unconventional style ideas, and their undue sympathy for the low-born “uglies” most have deemed them decidedly uncool, but not a particular danger or threat, so they just ignore them. Despite not being popular amongst their peers, they still have a fairly devoted following of uglies, because they give more fair rewards than many other fabglams, and have a genuine desire to make them more beautiful, rather than just tricking them and sending them to the doctors later.
HEEL: They have a strange sense of fairness, considering the culture of the department they come from. They are willing to share their supplies and knowledge with those they see as less fortunate and in need of them, as long as they feel as though they can trust them. Because of this, they may not always keep enough supplies for themselves and are more than willing to risk themselves in the name of their close comrades.
CODE: Everyone should be themselves, nobody should feel trapped in a narrative created by them for their society. They respect other’s unique traits for the most part, especially now that they’re out in the world and can experience a wider variety of things. However, being unclean is a nearly inexcusable offense to them, and they absolutely will force hygiene products onto anyone who they see as needing them.
QUIRKS: Halo is very quick to share their talents in hair, makeup, and general cleanliness with others, sometimes almost forcing these onto others in order to make them more appealing. Of course, this is not without regard to their personal style. They wish to enhance and play to someone's style, not try to overwrite it.
They can also be seen gulping down pills multiple times a day- usually painkillers. If not given access to them, they become much more sluggish and unwilling to do more than the bare minimum. But, honestly, they’re like that a lot of the time anyway, just not as bad.
PERFORMANCE REVIEW
Bargain Hunting ► Coming from a department where everyone wants something you have, and you always have to get your underlings to do tasks for you, trading items comes rather naturally to Halo. They’re pretty good at getting at least what they need, if not the better end of the deal.
Aesthetically Inclined ► Whether it be hair, makeup, clothing, or decor, Halo knows how to make it cohesive, even with limited supplies. Not a huge advantage in most situations, but sure does make life a lot more pleasant to look at. It also makes them feel the need to try and rearrange things or give people makeovers whenever they feel things aren’t as good as they could be.
Running In Heels ► A useful talent for someone who insists on wearing impractical footwear, Halo can pretty easily run and maneuver in high heels, thanks to years of practice and only a few previous ankle injuries.
Precision ► Absolutely nothing is worse than having to redo half the massive winged liner you just put on your face. The solution? A steady hand and knowing exactly where you want that product to end up. Thankfully, this sense of precise aim also translates to things like clawing someone's eyes out with their gauntlets or punching them directly in the nose.
GROCERIES
A Massive Stash of Pain’B’Gone and Various Painkillers ► Halo struggles with chronic pain, mainly due to several surgical procedures they’ve had to achieve their desired aesthetic. As a result, they’re reliant on their stash of painkillers. It’s one of the few things they’re relatively unwilling to share unless in dire circumstances.
Makeup Bag ► And by makeup bag, I, of course, mean a small backpack filled to nearly overflowing with beauty products they took with them from their department. These are things they are happy to share,
A Small Amount of Neutral Clothing ► While they love colorful makeup, to make it stand out they prefer more neutral-colored clothing, especially since they can only carry so much on them while traveling.
Fine Comb Gauntlets ► Venturing out in the world, they figured they’d need something on them in case things got ugly, especially suddenly. Their main weapon is a set of gauntlets that are ornate, good for both protecting their hands, covering up the fact that their skin there is a slightly different tone, and making their punches better. Also on the top of the hand is basically an extra dangerous lice comb (one of the ones with a more circular base), that can flip to face inward or outward, depending on if they need to use them or not. With these, they can do some pretty nasty scratching damage. They’re activated by a series of buttons/sensors between the bottom two knuckles, so basically the comb part comes out whenever you start throwing punches.
Hair Pick Nail-Bat► A more intense combat weapon, a take on an apocalypse classic, the nail bat. Except, rather than nails, the sharpened teeth of a metal comb have been stuck into it. It looks pretty nasty.
First Aid Kit ► Aside from their large stash of painkillers, they have a decent supply of all the other important odds and ends, as well as various other pills and drugs from pharmacy.
