F A L S E  M O T I V E S

S U M M A R Y	Revelry's streets came alive in the night when the masses of overworked poor souls descended onto the streets to party they partied hard. Some could say they partied too hard, when a body ended up in the alley of the Vlhak-Lice bar no one really did anything. The streets policed itself but someone called the police, finally some justice would show up in such a lawless town. Revelry wasn't a frontier town or a outpost of sorts it's police force hailed from three different districts. 43rd out of Erin to the west, 44th out of Henderson to the east and 45th to the North. There are alot of reported and unsolved cases in Revelry, no prescient has the time to deal with such minor offences.

	When the body appeared, it was everyone's fair game. Everyone wanted the credit, but most people don't tend to research the town they goto party in too much. It was a Vlhakian majority until Antrea broke away from the kingdom now the Vlhakian generation has been phased out by transient workers, party goers and tourists. It's all fun and games until someone gets shot, the streets are littered with scum and there are elements of organized crime in the city's underbelly.

	You aren't here for that, a murder has been committed! A fucking murder! You and your esteemed and estranged cohort from the 43rd make the long drive from Erin. It's such a boring drive.. why don't you just goto the bar and party, maybe knock some teeth in and get some awnsers? A mysterious bottle of Vodka-Vlhak punch calls out to you as you enter the bar. Maybe you have had enough of being a cop and want to wake these sheeple out of their trance. The Antrea government's psycho-pseudo radio wave broadcasts must be stopped! Blow up the radio tower to save the entire town.

	A fellow detective from the 44th is already in the city, a few days ahead of you but he may of fell for the vices of the city. He probably has a head start and an idea where to look, of course the detective work is up to the detectives. Welcome to Reverly, population lizard counter agents.  

T H E   R E P U B L I C  O F  A N T R E A

	Becoming a nation in 1994, the Republic of Antrea was a northern colony under the ownership of the Kingdom of Vlhakian until the secession war was initiated by William Montgomery an influential resistance leader who later would become the president of the republic. In its fledgling years, the Republic fought to become an internationally recognized country outside of Vlhakia which in 2001 the Republic received its recognization by the International Commission.

	Antrea's capital city is in the heart of its nation, the city of Vaughan where the central government rests. While the republic hasn't had a major war since the seccession they have had conflicts with other nations but only in terms of small wars and skirmishes over the course of 2001-2015. Most notably the Antrea-Delrosa incident (2001) to the west, Gavian Border skirmishes (2009) to the north and the Partia-Antrea (2015) air war which was the most notable as Andrea was able to gain air superiority with it's dated aircraft.

	The Republic enjoys relative peace, however, as of recent they have become complacent due to the current government, intelligence services and relative global stability. With the surprise attack by Vlhakia, Antrea scrambles to try and hold together what they can while outside observers watch as one of the most brutal wars of the century kicks off.

T H E   K I N G D O M  O F  V L H A K I A

	Vlhakia is one of the oldest known and formed empires in the Known World, Vlhakia was once a powerhouse of the Known World but in the early 20th century they faced a coalition by the International Commission which resulted in a long protracted war. Dubbed the Golden Wars, Vlhakia eventually lost and conceded land to the Yukadra which later on lost land to the Belforth and Delrosa once they gained independence from Yukadra.

	The Kingdom is ruled by Queen Julia De Everette a fair but ruthless dictator of her people, through her father's mentorship she had cultivated Vlhakia into a powerhouse from the ashes of her ancestors. There have been various short-wars with Delrosa & Patria, while none have gained the Kingdom any solid ground or resources it has churned out a war-seasoned military which is now put to the test against the fledging Antrea Republic.

	Life in the Kingdom had been well up until two decades ago when provinces wanted to break away from the Kingdom, most notably Antrea. With Antrea's wealth of resources gone Vlhakia had struggled to keep its citizens content with daily needs. In 2019 it hit a breaking point, in response the military would be the ones to fix the problems the monarchy coulden't. Antrea and others will soon be under the commanding and lawful authority of, Vlhakia.

T H E  P R I N C I P A L I T Y   O F   D E L R O S A

	Delrosa is a ex-Yukadra state which has been left incomplete instability for the last few decades, the principality is commanded by Prince Amon St. Germaine who preaches his divine right to rule by the dead gods. His people had been fighting against the group of partisans seeking to dethrone the king and return the state under the rightful rule of Yukadra. While their secession from Yukadra was bloodless as Yukadra was dealing with an invasion from 'the other continent' many citizens felt that Delrosa took the wrong turn when the state of affairs affected daily life.

	Delrosa jumped into many conflicts, notably the Antrea-Delrosa & Vlhakia-Delrosa war where both nations were provoked into a tenious and prolonged air conflict with Delrosa. What Delrosa had for itself was a fanatically led army and a technologically superior air force which dominated the skies in the Vlhakia campaigned but was routed in the Antrea front. Not much is heard from Delrosa outside of refugees escaping the power vacuum.

	A Delrosa is one of two people, for the king or against him. Delrosans are thrown into one of these categories and don't seem to break these beliefs until they escape the country. With Yukadra engaged in espionage and saboteur and Delrosa's army fighting off a rebellion all it takes is a spark to put such a state into flames. To others, the country is known to be a pain internationally and to its neighbors itself, however other parties of interest may be at play in what is known as the longest civil wars known to mankind. 

T H E   P A T R I A N   M E R C H A N T   R E P U B L I C

	Neighboring to the west of Antrea, The Patrian Merchant Republic sits in relative peace as it works to bring trade all across the Known World. One of the oldest founded nations in the Known World, Patria is known for its friendliness and open borders. In the past, it clashed with the Kingdom of Vlhakia but after staving off the waves of fighters they were able to open a channel of dialogue to cease the war. 50% of the Known World's International trade is done through Patria at their far port of Saltbane.

	Patria is ruled by a board of governors each governor controlling a province in the divided country they all report to the Merchant's Council which appoints the governors and gives them the power to rule over the province. The real power lies with the Council as they essentially are the old boys club to the entire country, the cost of living is relatively decent compared to other countries and citizens enjoy cheap social services.

	While there has been internal dissent over the greedy who wish to rule the country, the loyal Patrian Guard the country's armed forces keep an ever vigil watch and a neutral stance in wars. Patria would not throw their country in a war that wouldn't profit them.

T H E   B E L F O R T H   R O Y A L   E M A N C I P A T I O N   L E G I O N

	The Belforth Royal Emancipation Legion departed from Yukadra decades ago alongside Delrosa in a bloody civil war that left hundreds of thousands dead. The Belforth Legion is a religious state in a never-ending war with Yukadra, they consider Yukadra to be their holy land as told by the 'Dead Gods'. Ever since their independence and secession, they have been fighting the longest wars to date, while Yukadra is able to fight off the Legion hordes they continue to grow and outsmart their superior enemy.

	Under the supreme command of Father Hunter Reltabi he commands his followers to fight in the crusade against Yukadra, life in Belforth is unknown but is speculated to be harsh and in a military-like manner as each citizen serves in combat and non-combative roles for the legion. Their main power lies with its army but their aged airforce of MiGs is able to hold it's own against with its ancient squadrons of aces. 

	While it has no diplomatic ties to any other countries and it's the only member not apart of the International Commission it's only ally is to the south - Delrosa which relies on it's instability to help the Prince assure his dominace on the throne. If the prince is overthrown, who will protect the land from the Legion?

T H E   H O L Y   K N I G H T D O M   O F  Y U K A D R A

	Yukadra is known as the largest and oldest living empire on the Known World, once rivaled by the Kingdom of Vlhakia the empire is ruled by Emperor Jorge Conway a man almost as old as the Known World itself. Yukadra holds under its belt two dozens former empires, republics and other nations that have fallen under the ever-expansive empire. It was only a few decades ago they were stopped by the Belforth Legion's never ending war along with the International Commission's threat of intervention.

	Yukadra worships the Emperor as the descendant of the Storvay the all creator god of The Known World, with such power the Emperor spreads his influence onto the nations Yukadra takes over. With everyone following him with religious fervor, few dissents internally but Yukadra's biggest non-believers are the Belforth Empancipation Legion which fights to take over the holy land. Few if any ever emigrate away from Yukadra.

	The military of the Yukadra is one of the strongest in the world, specifically their air force as they utilize technology only available in Gavinain. Their religious fervor gives them the edge against their enemy as they rarely fear their death, as dying in combat would allow them to ascend to the Great Gates far above. Recently Yukadra had been growing its naval forces, questions as to why the Empire is raising its navy size have only garnered one response.

T H E   G A V I A N  T E C H N O C R A CY 

	Admittedly, not much is known about The Gavian Technocracy. Despite the loud and often disturbing drilling and construction that is done on the south Gavian border, the country has always been known to be a closed border country. Only those with the highest intelligence or those who possess extremely rare skill sets may apply and are considered for citizenship. No one has ever left the country, but Gavians are known internationally as the technological leaders of the Known World.

	For the highest bidder, they sell the best air craft, weapons, miracles, you name it they sell it many try to imitate what they have but fail. Outside of their closed country, they are only seen in full-body protective suits at International Commission meetings.

T H E   I N T E R N A T I O N A L  C O M M I S S I O N 

	The International Commission was created jointly with dozens of Republics, Kingdoms, Evangelical and other types of nations at the end of the 19th century after the Known World was recovering from a slew of international conflicts and disasters. The intent of Commission was to mediate through conflicts and if needed step in and stop tyrannical potentially world-ending nations wars, most recently the Coalition against the Kingdom of Vlhakia.

	The Commission promotes peace, international trade, human rights & disaster relief efforts, almost every nation in the Known World is a member of the International Commission and adheres to their treaties. Fewer nations have seats on the Peacekeeping Task Force. Only a few nations in the world are not apart of the International Commission most notably Belforth. Some other nations don't associate with the Commission based off of conflicting beliefs or in a means to assert neutrality.

	As of recent the International Commission has had it's hands tied up with a variety of civil wars on the Continent of Gustio.

	 Max Mercer is a youthful man, a former patrol cop who recently was promoted to be in the Detective force of the 44th. He stands at six feet and two inches tall, brown hair at the shortest length on the sides and the back with the top slicked back. He has amber mixed hazel eyes. His expression usually holds a neutral look, never showing much emotions on the outside. He gives a patient and analyzing personality, always understanding. He could even somehow properly tell the above-average social person could be lying or telling the truth Anything that gets to him? Of course, that something being illogical in his head. The lack of experience usually being the downfall of him unable to think sometimes like the suspect, and usually the disadvantage of always asking the question 'why' and thinking out of the box a lot. 

D A Y S - G O N E
	Having only his mother being around him whilst in the Antrean Society, his father was documented of being within the Antrean military soon after his mother was pregnant with him. Being an only child within his small family, he usually was helping around the house, being outside, or focusing on school and studying. Growing up was usually harsh as he had little to no interaction with others, and those that he did could never understand of how Max truly had little to no friends as he wore the traits of a true friend. In reality, Max always stayed quiet and observed those around him. His eyes were always scanning people's reactions and attitudes to others. His ears listening to every single detail as those around him were relaxed with him listening. Later on down the road, he always focused on himself physically and mentally preparing himself for rash people. He always wanted to be a Law Enforcement officer, and he even began to study properly for the entrance exams for the 44th Precinct.

Max proceeded within the entrance exam, and having graduated the class he managed to get at least one of the top five within. Why was he so determined to get in? Because he felt he could change the streets, on how things were just bothered him so much to the point he got tired of sitting around. He wanted to do something, and having the authority to do it was what edged him on. His issue was usually of how he was initially alone, and having to work with a partner was something very new. He had to learn to adjust to whoever was assigned as his partner fast. He's no one special, he's no fancy Cowboy gunslinger. He kept as a basic law-officer for the next two years, and just last week he was assigned a promotion. And right now, he's stepping through the double doors of the 44th Precinct, a Detective badge on his belt and his well-dressed outfit. His first day on the job was a start of one hell of a night.

P R O F I L E	This woman stands at five foot eight, she wears a cool ass bomber jacket accompanied by a pair of cargo pants. Her face screams tomboy and so does her fucking apperance too. She has medium length blonde hair and a beat up face, obviously from a recent altercation. She is half-Antrean & half-Vlhakian a deadly combination in today's streets. Julia was a bit cold, yea kinda of a fucking bitch but she was a hell of a detective. In reality she was a loner and was known to abandon her poor partners in the past, but her down to earth total fuck you stance to the world was comical but also sad - she was so fucking sad. She also had brass knuckles, cool right? 

D A Y S - G O N EBeing a bad ass was never this easy, imagine growing up in a shitty home in poverty near the border of the country. Yep, that was Julia's child hook in old Hobroke a town that was so broke it's name was "broke" in a sense it was ironic but at the same time it was fucking scary. They had immigrated from Vlhakia, well their family a generation ago when the war broke out. Yea, shitty place to live and worse to grow up, getting beat and failing school. Check check ding ding all what Julia did, it just sucked alright?

It took alot of soul searching, not really just running with a drug gang and almost getting caught by the local enforcers simply sorted out poor Julia's fucked up life. She was simply fucked! However, due to some police corruption and the fact that they were undermanned Julia applied to be a police officer with the 43rd Precient. Working as a PO sucked, when some detectives mysteriously died she temporarily filled the void - yet it became permament despite being on temporary assignment. Now she drags her feet through each case, wondering when the end will come - will it?

I actually have to get on a flight in a bit so this is still a work in progress until I find the time to figure out where to go with his backstory. And if the lore doesn’t fit with what @DeadDrop came up with, they can point it out before I get too far along. :)

Also, the prose in Disco Elysium got me feeling some kinda way so the profile section ended up being longer than expected. Apologies for any run-on sentences lmao

V I R G I L  P R E A K E R

P R O F I L E     Virgil doesn’t cut the most intimidating figure at the 43rd — far from it, actually. With his scruffy curls, understated style of dress and the pair of horn-rimmed glasses he’s almost never seen without, he looks more like a harried schoolteacher than the seasoned detective he actually is. And the fact that he barely ever stands up straight doesn’t help in the slightest. At rest, Virgil appears to shrink in on himself, sporting a carefully cultivated slouch that seems to whisper “ignore me”.

To put it gently, Virgil is… troubled. He prefers the company of himself most of the day, only emerging from the dark recesses of his office (and psyche) when duty calls. And yes, he’s well aware of how horribly dramatic it all sounds, but not everyone is lucky enough to make it out of the Yukadran war machine unscathed. As a result of his service, Virgil’s general demeanor is that of a cornered animal. He seems to live in a constant state of hypervigilance — fight or flight — as if the mere notion of letting his guard down would mean the end of him. This awareness, after all, was what got him out of the trenches in the first place, and he would very much like to stay alive a little while longer.

Prickly at best and downright antisocial at worst, it’s safe to say that Virgil isn’t the easiest person to get along with. But while he doesn’t actively set out to be a social butterfly, even a lone wolf like him understands the value of playing nice. The majority of his interactions with his peers at the precinct comprise of short, clipped sentences. He doesn’t find socialising easy or enjoyable, and so, endeavours to keep things as uncomplicated as possible.

Virgil can be said to be part of the “old guard” at the 43rd, having worked the beat for five years, followed by a two year stint in forensics, before finally taking up the mantle of detective — a job he’s been doing for a good six years. Drive and dogged persistence are both values that Virgil has in generous measure, and for better or worse, he’s known for always seeing a case through to the very end. Combined with a razor-keen perception, there’s nothing that can stop him from unravelling a mystery once he gets his teeth in it.

D A Y S - G O N E     Virgil’s story isn’t special. Like many, his parents were soldiers in the Yukadran Army, cogs in the machine of the Emperor’s dream of conquest. Then, at the tender age of seven, he suddenly found himself orphaned by the last of Yukadra’s pushes into the Belforth Emancipation Legion. The loss set him adrift, unmoored him from the stability he’d known his whole short life, but like all pieces of flotsam, he eventually found his way to shore.

The Nahlstadt Boys’ Home in the Yukadran capital was where he spent the majority of his childhood and adolescence. He wasn’t the only one, of course, and Nahlstadt wasn’t the only home for orphaned children. Plenty others had lost their family in the war between Yukadra and the Belforth Legion, and the Emperor’s advisors realised that the best way to keep him — and by extension, themselves — in power was to start young. Funded by the state with money straight from the Emperor’s coffers, the nuns that ran the home impressed upon the children the doctrines they abided by, principal among them the honour of dedicating one’s life in service to the Emperor.

It’s unclear exactly when Virgil started doubting the teachings of the Empire, and perhaps he never quite believed them in the first place, but he wanted to be more than just another soldier in the Yukadran army.
