We've lived under their heels for generations. Those in the Undercity spend their days struggling to survive and remaining ever-passive under the watchful gaze of the Imperials. The few that dare step out of line are gunned down on backwater streets and alleys, and others-- if they're "lucky" enough -- are recruited into the Imperial forces to serve the Exalted. There, in the so-called gold-pathed streets of Eros, they may have a chance of a new life.

This is the story of us-- a merc group called ARIES. Most of the time, we take on menial tasks, such as purging the rabid beasts beyond the safe walls of Eros. We call ourselves an organization, but we're more-so a family-- one with dreams, aspirations, and ambitions. We have each other to lean on when times get tough, but recently, times have been getting too tough. The world is changing, and not for the best; food is running scarce and disease is running rampant. And yet, with all of our distaste for the Imperials, they have extended a hand out toward us. They say they have an offer we can't refuse. They have chosen ARIES as the next handful to join them, and in exchange, we shall live a life of comfort and free of pain. It seems like our prayers have been answered... or have they?

1) First and foremost, do not ghost. If you need to step away from the roleplay for one reason or another, let us know.

2) You must be active both in the IC and OOC. I enjoy banter with my roleplayers, along with plotting ships, silly escapades, and so forth. I don't like it when people are silent; if they are, I get the sense that they either don't care about the roleplay or aren't having fun. Posting frequencies should also be once to twice a week.

3) I prefer high-quality roleplayers with high-quality characters. I'm not asking for novels for posts or wonderful literary prowess, though I don't want to have an aneurysm when I read your replies. Please, take your time in crafting good characters and decent posts.

4) I would appreciate it if you discussed characters as you craft them. Each character must have a certain combative theme around them, similar to jobs. For instance, you can't have an extreme amount of prowess with lances, guns, and swords all at the same time.

5) You may only begin with one character. These characters must also be part of ARIES and have known each other for a few years.

6) Characters are expected to be around eighteen to twenty five years old.

7) We will only be RPing as humans. No elves, etc.

8) Most importantly, have fun! I prefer if my fellow roleplayers were having an equal amount of fun all across the board. If you're bored or want to move on, please let us know. Communication is key.

I'm intrigued. What's the magic/technology dichotomy like? What kind of abilities can we start with? Is it a 'one weapon type per job/class' kind of deal, or one where, say, white mages don't just use staves and rangers/hunters can use more than just bows?

I don't plan on having everyone start off as uber strong. I'm not really focused on having people dictate their abilities either, as this isn't going to rely on in-game mechs but instead on common sense and decency. As with classes and jobs, what do you mean? I don't want white mages to use guns on the side or for a sword user to be using extremely powerful magic on the off-hand.

@Ambra Obviously, I was speaking in terms of progression. But, say, if I start with a character with a bow, does that mean I can only use a bow, or can the character have a short list of weapons they can also use, like, say, spears, or knives, or swords, or axes.
But moreover, I meant in the setting. How much magic is in the world? How much technology is in the world? Tell me how it works.

I'd prefer if you just focus on one thing and stay away from shortlists. Kind of like jobs, but not actually, you know.

As for the level of magic, I'm not extremely sure about it, but I do know that I plan on having Imperials having more units who have more potential with magic than the typical people you see in the Undercity. For tech, I'd say that the impoverished slums have semi-modern/modern tech while the more well off parts have more futuristic machinations.

I mean, I'd like to potentially play an archer with some mild bard-like buffs, but I'd hate to get gimped at close range. That's basically what I'm thinking. But I need to know how the world's going to work, because if all that's going to come at us are, say, swarms of armored Goliath or heavily plated machines, well, since we're acting as a party, I'd like to know how I can be effective.
Speaking of, what's the hierarchy like in ARIES? Is it literally just us as the players, or is there some sort of founder or patriarch/matriarch figure?

You can play as anything you'd like; remember that characters don't always have to be 100% effective. That's what a party's for~

The world will be fleshed out more on the OOC as I don't have the specs yet. But do know we will be going against some machinations at some point.

I'm not sure about ARIES yet, really. I think I'm going to have it that everyone's an equal and they kind of vote on things via a "round table" kind of system, where everyone's opinions are taken into consideration. Not sure yet

I'm not sure this is for me. I'm not really getting any character ideas, and the idea(s) I did/do have seem less and less plausible the more I hear.

Interested too! I'm thinking a quick and sneaky character (think thief archetype if you're comparing this to jobs), who uses knives. No magic or heavy hitting, but can strike fast and evade attacks, and possibly get her hands on items in situations where it's plausible. Is that ok?

Also, how does progression work in this?
