Akizawa Nadeshiko

It seemed that Nadeshiko was not the only person to be rather dismayed this morning. The goo girl observed Kana as she stood abruptly upon shaky legs, crashing into poor Shun in the process, then proceeded towards the gathering of students that she took to be their class. She was not sure whether the knowledge that her fellows were also nervous wrecks was comforting or not, but comfort wasn't a word one associated with Ishin in the first place. She did not think on it long, opting instead to file in with the rest of the first years bound for class 1A. It would not take all that long to learn that her initial reading of the room's mood was—at least partially—incorrect.

A cacophony of activity seemed to swarm around as she lingered towards the back of the growing pack. An upperclassman with an out of place uncertainty, accusations of sweatiness, mumbled explanations, and a number of rather upbeat voices doing their utmost to make good impressions. It was all rather hard to keep up with, especially for one who had lacked the observation skills to notice the aforementioned sweat. Perhaps she would have silently placed these voices to their sources, making initial judgements of her classmates from the safety of rear while their senpai tried to herd what looked to be at least a dozen freshman. Perhaps she would have—if not for that senpai calling her name only a few seconds after inquiring to the location of another girl.

Should she have been the type to ever swear, she might have done so at that point. This morning had already started out roughly, and here she was, already being called up in front of the class to be paired off with a perfect stranger. As she weaved her way towards the front of the group, she caught sight of who she could only assume was Kunze-san. The name had hit her ear strangely at first, but perhaps not so strangely as the sight of her would-be roommate. Ishin had always been rather traditionalist, and traditional this girl did not appear to be. Tall, foreign, with dyed hair and a rather irate expression. She looked like some kind of delinquent. How she had even managed to get into Ishin in the first place was beyond the gelatinous girl.

Perhaps she was being too judgemental. She had yet to even be introduced. Shaking off her nerves, Nadeshiko finally finished her trip to the front, pacing towards the catgirl and the devil-like foreigner besides her.

"I am Akizawa. Akizawa Nadeshiko," she said with a small bow of her head, "It is a pleasure to meet you."

“Anyway, all the girls will be situated in the same building. Chiheisen like I said.”

Aia cleared her throat as she tried to get a handle of the situation. She was still quite a bit nervous. One of her cat ears twitched out of embarrassment. They had been strangers only minutes prior and now she was someone’s senpai officially. On top of that the foreigner had jumped from calling her Nekohara-senpai to Aia-senpai!

It was a common thing she supposed, at least, for foreigners whom communicated in such an informal manner on a daily basis. She hoped that the girl wouldn’t refer to their teacher—the famous metallic knight hero—in such a manner. She considered correcting her, but Ishin was known to give new first year students a false sense of security. This wasn’t a day of relaxation but more accurately, a day where people dropped their guard. She remembered her first thought on her first day. She had dropped her guard thinking Ishin wasn’t as bad as she thought it’d be. By the end of her first month as a fresh-faced freshmen three students had been expelled. That wasn’t accounting for how Knightmare-sensei taught her.

As the two students properly introduced themselves to each other she looked back down at the list.

“Oh wow. That’s a pretty famous name!” She blurted out before looking up from the board. “Err… Tanegashima Wakako and… Mutsuki Kana?”

She recognized both last names, uttering them in a different manner than she had with the previous two students. She had used brief formalities to break the ice, though here she was shifting gears. But how couldn’t she? Tanegashima Sanae was a famous hero and a prestigious clan in antiquity. The other name however gave her less excitement and more confusion. After all, the name Mutsuki was relatively uncommon. Aia wondered what the teachers were thinking! Aia had been born in Aomori province so she knew about the connotations. Surely, this girl couldn’t have been connected to who she thought of upon instinct?

There was only one way to find out.

“Mutsuki-san, are you from Aomori by chance?” She asked, even though it may have been inappropriate to do so.

Tanegashima Wakako

Sapporo, Japan
Ishin Academy. April 7th

"Likewise!" Wakako replied briefly to Osamu as they joined the others. It was good to know there was at least one person that seemed polite in her class so far.

As the group began to converge around their senior, people already seemed to be announcing themselves to the group. Wakako wasn't sure if this was just what everyone was doing or if a few people had just decided to take the initiative. A few people having a small tiff over something seemed to interrupt all the introductions, however. Aia called everyone to attention and began reading out the dorm assignments. When she called the first person out, the foreigner, she started looking around at the others. But more than anyone, she was staring at Wakako herself. Wakako started to worry that she was already being judged. She just gave Adrianne an awkward smile until, mercifully, her roommate stepped, or rather sloshed, forward. Adrianne would surely be too occupied with Nadeshiko to spend any more time eyeing her up. Unfortunately, as they were all in the same class, she couldn't say for sure this would be the end of it.

But the very next dorm pairing to be read out was her own. Even Aia noticed her connection to her mother right off the bat. She was sure to hear about it a lot. Hopefully this Kana girl wasn't a fan of her mothers.

Nonetheless, it was time for yet another putting on of her brave face and step forward to greet her new buddy for the year. "Hi everyone!" She said as she stepped into proper view, giving the group a vigorous wave. "I'm Tanegashima Wakako! Now who's Mutsuki Kana....?" Naturally she had no idea who this Kana person was, so she would just have to wait for them to step forward, greet her, and answer Aia's question. Wakako wasn't really sure who out of all these people she would prefer turned out to be Kana, but whoever Kana was, she hoped they were nice and polite.

“Hmmmmm?!”

Her confused squeal accompanied the lowering of her arm, her eyes wide and fixed upon the girl with the cotton-candy hair. Hajo tilted her head, stepping closer to the unknown student, and flashed her pearly-whites; that sort of smile her brother bore proudly, the obligatory smile that still reached the eyes, though it always came out as challenging - an impression Hajo wasn't necessarily too wild to evoke. “I didn't insult him, though!” Before her eyes could scan for any detail to latch onto, the upperclassman intervened, causing Hajo to scratch her head, a bewildered look on her face. "Fighting, senpai?" Throwing up both hands in defense, Hajo shook her head rapidly from side to side, her face glowing red.
The boy himself now spoke up, and Hajo bit her lip so as to not make another comment, instead residing to give him a mute thumbs-up and a wide grin.

As their senpai continued down the list, Hajo perked up, her smile shrinking, until her mouth turned into a tiny o shape. With her hands behind her back, she non-chalantly shuffled through the small set of students in front of her, leaning in on the list as if to confirm what she had heard, then stared at both the girls called up. “Famous folks?” she asked, her voice shaking with excitment. “Your name, hmmm...” With one hand raised in front of her chest, a slender finger extended to point at the tallest girl she'd seen in her life. “I feel like I've heard that before, too, but...” Her lips moved, voicelessly forming "Mutsuki", as she mulled over it on the spot. After a moment of silence, her face fell in on itself in defeat. “Can't place it. Hey, hey, senpai, what's in Aomori?”

Kana had a knot in her stomach the size of an anchor.

The big girl who stepped forward had a familiar name. Not overtly familiar, but there was a time when it had seemed beneficial for Kana to know some of the more famous heroes, at least by name, and Tanegashima seemed too unique to be a coincidence.

It ought to have excited her. It was exciting after all. Getting to share a room with the daughter of a famous hero, getting to see firsthand what that sort of parental-guidance could create, what a hero was supposed to be like. The Tanegashima girl looked like a testament to hard work and diligence, was that her own mother’s doing? With how…rowdy some of the other students had seemed from the brief time she’d been around them, it seemed as though Kana had struck oil insofar as roommates went.

She still felt like she was about to be sick.

The look on Aia’s face was more familiar to her than her roommate’s name. The furrowed brows, the confusion, the feeling of that can’t be right, can it? Was it her mother’s name they knew, or her alias? Sometimes people didn’t ask questions, they just jumped to—admittedly correct—conclusions. Aia, however, took an extra step.

I was wrong, Kana thought. Lie. Definitely lie. She gave you an out. Say you’re from Kagoshima, that’s still kind-of true.

“Uhm…”

Yeah, okay. Or just stand there like some mute freak. Cool.

Blessedly, or at least so for the moment, someone else interjected. A girl that Kana could describe instinctually as “pretty,” and then more thoughtfully as…“blue.” She seemed to recognize the Tanegashima girl—Wakako, she’d heard Aia say—and the Tanegashima girl only.

It was enough of an opportunity for Kana to shuffle over to Wakako and politely bow her head. “Hello. It’s…very nice to meet you.”

There was a rather significant difference in height between them, and while it seemed a bit crass, Kana found herself, almost on reflex, standing with Wakako between her and the cat-eared upperclassmen, as if she might suddenly—hopefully—become invisible.

Aia’s eyes moved from looking at the crowd for Kana, anxiously wondering about her question. The purple-haired girl had changed her focus, almost immediately asking about Aomori. It didn't take long for Aia to discard the thought about the Mutsuki name to explain a little about where she personally came from.

“Lots of things, but I was just wonderin—”

“Can we get on with this? I'm getting bored.” A blue-haired girl at the front of the line commented bluntly, causing Aia to look to her instead of answering the purple-haired girl in earnest.

“Right, uh, so if you follow me I’ll say names as I show you around!” She exclaimed as she turned around, moving toward the doors that went back outside.

Deciding not to take the abrupt bluntness as rude like others may have, Aia stepped forward. After all, Aia had been a student at Ishin for two years now so she was a bit used to people being blunt and direct, sometimes even crass. She looked back down at the clipboard, humming underneath her breath as she moved her fingers down the list. The one peculiarity that the brown-haired girl had come to realize was that Class 1A was rather female-centric this year. Her particular class had been more even, though the gaijin that had been accepted when she was a freshmen had to transfer back to America when something important required the student to be in a local environment.

It did make Aia wonder if Ishin staged things sometimes; there were just too many students who transferred out or didn’t make the grade. She wondered how many of this version of Class 1A would survive Ishin and which of them would be standing in her spot a year from now?

“Try not to talk over me, alright? The next group is Yano Haruhi and Genkuro Yoru! Do either of you like Ishin? How would you describe yourself?”

Haruhi couldn’t help but stare steadfastly in awe at the subtle movements the cat girls’ ears made with every change in sound surrounding the crowd. Being exposed to such variety of people in one space was enough to drive any sheltered kids’ perception into overdrive. Her hand instinctively raised in defiance ready to rush over and attack the poor girls’ ears with her coddling fingers. Feeling herself drift over as if the girl was made of metal, she dug her heels into the ground and slapped her other hand onto her extended arm trying to push it down back to her side. “Manners remember!” she yelled at herself remembering how bad of a first impression she must have left on squid girl to ask her if the people of Nara had any. While she was getting her urges underway it seemed as though the lavender haired beauty was letting hers run free when calling one of the only boys in 1-A sweaty. A strange way of addressing someone, but Haruhi saw no malicious intent since he was beginning to sweat through his undershirt.

More and more students gathered in the little huddle just in front of the upperclassmen that was ready to give room assignments. She recognized almost all of them either from having spoken to them directly before the speech and the others from her nosey spying during the speech, it was a worrying trend for our moss headed heroine. The unruly foreigner came trudging along with that already patented scowl looking for her roommate who just so happened to be the mighty blob of pink goo. If eyes could turn into rocket ships that’s what anyone would have seen when Haruhi locked her gaze onto the amorphous girl. In that moment she had wish she was her roommate instead, oh the ideas that flew into her head if they were. She could turn her into a basketball and practice her hoops or maybe turn her into a hammock so they could both soak in the sun, unless the sun melted her?

These surnames meant almost nothing to her, so her face of shock stemmed from physical appearances than fame associated with their family names. Especially that massive girl who towered over the rest of them except for maybe the sweat boy in all his sweatiness. That’s when her ears perked up and heard the sound of her name. As if she was a contestant on a game show, she made her way to the center of the group waving and smiling all the way down.

“Yup that’s me! I’m Yano Haruhi but you can call me Haruhi” she said grinning with all teeth and not much else. The question mulled over in her head, her smile quickly turning to a face of deep meditative thought. How would I describe myself? “Hmmm I’d say happy, kind of cold right now but that grandpa didn’t help, and uh a team player? Yeah! I like the sound of that. Oh, and I love it here already! I can’t wait to work with all you! Even you cranky big sis!” she said while pointing at Adrianne. Hopefully her roommate would show up soon and become her best friend.

Eugh.

The feeling of disappointment that washed over Yoru wasn't apparent at all. She hid it well beneath a friendly smile and carefully chosen body language. To say that she wanted someone else would be an understatement. The overly friendly nature of the pastel-haired girl made her want to throw up. The perfect roommate would have been someone friendly, weak-willed, and kept to themselves most of the time. Haruhi wasn't this. Having someone else call out others in that incessantly friendly tone was gross. It didn't help that she also had short hair. Even though she was uglier than Yoru, it encroached on her own value.

The names of the previous pairs didn't quite matter to Yoru. She still remembered everything they said because, again, there was some value to memorizing them. She didn't hold any sort of familiarity with the names. Obsession with the hero scene wasn't something that Yoru possessed.

Well, she might as well answer the questions that Aia asked.

"Of course, Ishin is an amazing school after all!" Her tone came out was just as perfected and rehearsed as before. "I suppose I'd call myself a student, ha~"

It was the perfect introduction. With that quick response, she managed to say absolutely nothing while words came out of her mouth. The joke at the end was so mildly funny that nobody sane would laugh at it. At best, it'd get a mild eyebrow raise or a slight nod. It wouldn't change the mood of the group nor force some kind of class clown reputation.

An absolutely milquetoast introduction, specifically formulated to not create any sort of negative impression of herself.

So she wasn't rude, she was just an idiot.

Asuka closed her eyes to keep herself from rolling them, though when she opened them she was pleased to see the purple-haired idiot student chat up someone else. At Tanegashima's greeting, Asuka gave another wave, her expression neutral. A kid of someone famous or something, though judging by their reaction, it seemed that it wasn't all it was cracked up to be. Asuka didn't have much of an opinion for the mousy girl, only taking a note of their name provided by their upperclassman and who they were dorming with. It was good to keep track of who was who for future networking, and it helped to know who to avoid.

Another rude student interrupted the poor catgirl, though at this point she wished the older student would, you know, put on some air of authority or something. Oh well, not everyone was made to lead. Asuka did take a note of the blue haired girl, quietly adding her to the list of people to avoid; people who were rude just weren't worth her time. It looked like Nekohara read her mind, though, finally asserting herself as she called for the next pair.

And then the white haired girl 'spoke'. Good grief, who was she trying to fool? She may as well have stapled a sign to her forehead that said, "I think I'm above this." Asuka couldn't help the giggle that escaped her, though it was safe to say she was definitely going to pay more attention to see just what kind of people her classmates were.

Too busy calling the kettle black to interact with anyone.

“It's ranked second in the country for a reason! Take that Shiketsu!” As Yoru, Haruhi's roommate, made her joke Aia couldn't help but stifle a friendly giggle. It was silly and dumb, but as far as she could tell she was just trying to break the ice.

Aia smiled warmly as she waved her arms, the brisk air hitting her as she and the group began to walk through the paved pathways around the campus.

Haruhi seemed friendly and bubbly, if a bit informal. Ishin had prided itself on people who knew formalities, but ever since the last headmaster left and Snowman took over in his stead six years ago things had started to change, or at least that’s what Aia had heard from her upperclassmen. After all, Ishin used to block all foreign applicant letters with a response letter containing a pamphlet for Yūei inside. Ishin’s culture was still rooted in Hokkaido and Japan, but it was trying to get an edge on Shiketsu and Yuei. Aia figured that was why someone so bubbly and dense was among the premier class for first years alongside a gaijin whom Aia wasn’t sure had been annoyed when the crowd generated or just anxious in her own way.

“So, if it wasn’t obvious. Everything within the walls here at Ishin is pretty easy to walk to. When you start class for the first time tomorrow you should be able to get up from your dorms and to class pretty quickly. If you looked over there you can see both Chiheisen and Shinonome. Chiheisen is for girls and Shinonome is for not-girls. There is all sorts of other facilities, but you're welcome to come and go as you please as long as you do not skip class. Even with the new-ish headmaster, we're still pretty serious about school. Don't be late unless you want to go home.”

Was tardiness still a red line for students? Aia wasn’t sure, but the school was a lot less draconian than it had been under the Sky Hero, Air Force Ukon, as a headmaster. But she was told to ‘instill the correct behavior in your kohai’. Whatever that was supposed to mean. She just hoped she was doing her job the best she could. She was still pretty nervous.

She looked back down to the list, checking on the next names her eye could catch.

“Sakurami Asuka! You’re with Mizuhana Yoshiba. And, uh, Amuro Namie is with Utsuya Hajo. That’d be the girls. I hope the cold weather isn’t bothering you guys. I knew a lot of people who weren’t fans in my first year. What are you looking forward to the most here at Ishin?”

“Right. I'm Mizuhana Yoshiba. As for what I’m looking forward to? Well, that'd be training to be a hero. So I'm excited for tomorrow so I can get started.”

The blue-haired student’s remarks were simple, though she tried to not show her disdain at the idea of waiting around for a whole day. Their upperclassmen seemed nice enough, though how their train-of-thought jumped around made Yoshi start to think she wasn’t exactly the right fit for the ‘job’ of escorting and mentoring their group.

Her class seemed like an interesting group beyond her brief altercation leading up to the speech by the headmaster of the school, though she did wonder why most of the class was compromised of girls and how some of them had gotten accepted into Ishin in the first place. The taller gaijin with imperfect Japanese seemed like she belonged at the very least, but someone like the girl who picked at her hair? or the other girl whom had accidentally offended her? Why were they here? Maybe their quirks were amazing? Whatever caused their placement she reminded herself that they were nothing more than sidekicks. Opponents. The hero rankings were competitive and she imagined Ishin was no different. No matter what it took she would make sure she was the best student to come out of Ishin. If it took extra training and extra studying she would do it.

“So which one of you is my roommate, anyway? This Sakurami person?” She asked as she looked around the crowd while following Aia without issue.

Of course.

Asuka didn't get the chance to respond before her future roommate presented themselves, and of course it was the blue haired girl. It could've been worse, she could've been stuck with either the fake or the idiot, so she supposed she'd have to grin and bear it. She was hoping for someone a little friendlier if she was being honest. Still, if she was going to be rooming with this girl, then getting along would be for the best. Hm, if she looked at this as a challenge instead, then it would be a lot more fun. Learning how to get along with difficult people was definitely an aspect of heroism; not every civilian was friendly, there were bound to be the occasional jerk.

She stole a glance at Seo, raising her eyebrows before giving Mizuhana her attention. Clearing her throat, she raised her hand in response to her question. "That's me," She replied politely, giving her roommate a small smile. "I'm Sakurami Asuka. It's a pleasure to make your acquaintance." Short, sweet, and to the point: this was how you made an appropriate and casual greeting without making a fool of yourself.

As for what she was looking forward to... "I'm looking forward to learning and making myself a hero, of course, so I'm in agreement with Mizuhana-san," She stated, clapping her hands together.

Through the course of introductions, Namie had at least deduced that most of her classmates were awkward. It was actually kind of concerning that so many of them were having a problem just being normal or behaved. Why were some of them already causing problems within the first hour of being here? Then there was that brat who was whining about being bored and wanting to move on to the upperclassman. There was a bit of frustration boiling under her skin at the moment but again, since she actually wanted to be here, she had no intentions of causing a problem.

With the group moving, she made pace and drifted over towards the only face she knew. "Hey Seo." She walked beside him, glancing over to him and offering a friendly smile before focusing ahead. If this had been the Seo she knew, he'd have taken the conversation over at this point but this wasn't the same person that was on her team. "...So how did you decide to come here?" It was a valid question and one that safely navigated the potential awkwardness of other questions that might have been to personal to ask of him at the moment. "To Ishin, I mean." Although Namie felt compelled to add that last clarification just to make sure her question wasn't leading him the wrong way.

As Seo would write, Namie would watch a bit as he worked wondering overall how that would feel not being able to talk. A thought that was interrupted when she heard her name, snapping her attention to the upperclassman. So she was rooming with Utsuya Hajo but which one was that? She glanced around trying to remember who went by what name... Oh. Her eyes found the air-head, realizing that her roommate would be that type. Namie turned away, exhaling a small sigh before refocusing on her conversation with Seo. Well... conversation in the unconventional sense.

Aia thought about the responses she heard from Hajo, Yoshiba, and the other underclassmen as she moved forward to the Shinonome Building.

As she looked at the dormitory in front of her, she pondered for a brief moment. She could have stopped at Chiheisen instead but the influx of female students for this year’s incarnation of Class 1A made her consider leading the males out and getting it over with. Not that she wanted the ‘tour’ to be over prematurely, but rather she felt like a burden for the crowd of students. Especially after the responses (or lack thereof) she received to her awkward questions. She wondered if the other upperclassmen assigned the task was feeling the same?

“This is Shinonome. Across the courtyard is Chiheisen! Wait, didn’t I say that already?” Aia uttered, “Uh, but where was I?”

“Introducing us to our dormmates? Only the guys are left.”

“Oh! Right! Yasuhide Seo and Kenzo Osamu. You're together... it says on the first floor, which should be in your pamphlets. That just leaves Tanaka Shun who is, hm, by himself?”

She turned to look, the larger boy looking like an odd man out. He must’ve been the boy in question. It was like the American expression that she had heard on television—a deer in the headlights. Part of Aia felt bad for him, but maybe an upperclassmen would be paired with him? If all he had to look forward to was looking at an empty bed from across the room she imagined it would’ve made him nervous. Like he was unwanted. It was a presumption that made Aia a little more nervous, but she also knew she had to balance being helpful but also not particularly slow. When she saw no sign of the other crowd of students she already knew that she had lagged behind for too long.

Or at least that was the perception.

“Anyway, thanks everyone for your patience for this little tour to the dorms! If you have any questions either defer to your pamphlets map and dorm details, or come find me in Room 1E. If you guys have any other question for today I’ll be in the common room of Chiheisen, okay?” She cleared her throat following the comment as she gave a formal bow before heading across the courtyard, leaving the students to their own devices unless they reached out to her in the common room.

Would they choose to dial in on Shun's embarrassment, go off on their own, or meet up with her? The whole day was still ahead of them, after all.

Tanegashima Wakako

Sapporo, Japan
Ishin Academy. April 7th

Wakako had thought she might have come across as the nervous type, but it seemed that Kana made her look confident by comparison. Wakako could have sworn the girl had shuffled to stand behind her, as though she were her shield. Commentary on her size aside, Wakako was quite fine to act as a shield for someone feeling shy. If she wasn't the big tall girl she was, she might have had a mind to hide herself at some point too. "Nice to meetcha too, Mutsuki-san!" She replied briefly Kana's greeting. There was something vaguely familiar about the name but Wakako couldn't place it. Besides, she knew better than anyone how annoying name recognition could be.

As the tour continued, and Aia continued to read out the dorm placements, Wakako followed along quietly, not wishing to risk being a nuisance to her senpai. Besides, it didn't seem like Kana was particularly keen to start small talk either, so Wakako assumed she wouldn't feel put out by relative silence on her end. She had little opinion to render on any of the other pairings; Wakako knew none of these people, and she wasn't the type to judge too quickly at first glance. Not to mention if any of the pairings were to be bad news that would be none of Wakako's business, bar any drama spilling into the dorms. The last to be paired were the boys, including Osamu. She would say she hoped he wasn't paired with whoever threw something at him back in the gym, but the odds of that person not only being in their class but paired with Osamu of all people were surely infinitesimally small.

When Aia released them all to go their own way, Wakako turned to Kana, who she had been making an effort to remain nearby this whole time. "So, Mutsuki-san, uh, penny for your thoughts?" As she was to be her roommate for the foreseeable future, it only made sense to try and build a rapport with her. The last thing she needed was to be all icy and awkward with the person she was sharing a room with. Worst case scenario she might discover they didn't make a very good pair either way, but the only way she could find that out was by trying and seeing how it went.

"That just leaves Tanaka Shun who is, hm, by himself?”

Oh no. Shun just stood there awkwardly as everyone in the class paired off with their new roommates, and here he was alone. No roommate. The embarrassment was starting to build as he squeezed the brown bag against his chest. It could be worse, of course. He could instead be sharing a room with a scary guy or a mean person. Or perhaps someone who stank really bad. So there was a bright side to it!

One thing he did notice was the lack of boys in the classroom. Only...3 guys total? He'd seen other male upperclassman through the school, so he knew that Isshin wasn't separated by gender, but what was going on about this? "Just a quick question-" he asked, holding a hand up. "Is...Ishin famous for its female heroes or something? It just seems odd that there's only three guys total."

“Oh, uh, well—” The sudden question as she had begun to take off had caught Aia off guard. Maybe if she hadn’t been so nervous herself, the brown-haired upperclassman would of waited for the students to disperse on their own initiative before trying to head off to the common area of the dorm across the courtyard. As she turned on instinct, her ankle twisted as she slipped on a sheet of ice on the sidewalk. She winced, obviously her hands moving to her feet. “Nyaaaan! Ow...”

Gritting her teeth and forcing a smile she looked up to the group of students. She hadn’t expected to do such an embarrassing thing ever! Long drops of sweat dropped from her forehead as she tried to cover up the fact she had accidentally hurt herself because she thought the questions would be over and done with, or at least they would until one of the students sought her out in the common room of the dormitory she had lived in for the past year. Ultimately it was one-hundred percent her fault, but she had to bear through it. She just hoped none of the underclassmen insisted on fetching a nurse. She hoped she could walk fine once she managed to get to her feet.

“Ehehehe, looks like I totally slipped huh? Oops.”

She looked up at the boy who had addressed her, the lonely boy without a normal dorm-mate.

“Guess I should look where I’m going, haha. Anyway, to answer your question. My class was the opposite actually. Ishin likes compartmentalized classes and sometimes more boys get into 1A and sometimes more girls. It depends on the composition results and who the headmaster and Kinzokuma-Sensei think is best. They'll explain a bit tomorrow.”

Yasuhide Seo

Seo barely paid attention as the others were called up to meet their roommates, still thinking on his little episode from before. As such, it took him a moment to realize that someone was talking to him, another to realize it was Namie, and a third to quell the flood of emotions that threaten to spread across his face as he quite literally froze up. He opened his mouth absently, as if to speak but snapped it shut before he could embarrass himself further in front of his former friend. Clearing his head with a shake, the young boy was quick to slip into the usual mask. As he started to write up a response, however, he couldn't help but curse the slight shake to his hold on the whiteboard. Of all the times to get hit with a surprise visit from his old life, it had to be after he was already put off by his stupid brain playing tricks on him.

~Wow, wasn't expecting to see you around here, Superstar!~ Lifting up the board for her to see, breathing an internal sigh of relief as she kept her questions somewhat general. Namie have never really been one to pry, and for that, he was grateful for. ~Oh, Isshin just seemed to be a good place to go. They take the whole hero thing really serious and you know me, I try not to do anything halfway.~

Plus it's nice and far away from her. At that thought, Seo couldn't help but feel a scowl carve itself onto his face, remembering how he'd spent this morning gearing up to leave. Her husband had seemed possibly ecstatic to see him out of the house, their kid wouldn't stop crying and clinging to him, and his mother. . . she'd stayed in her room. 'Catching up on work' her husband had said. A lie, but that's fine. It was what their relationship had been for a while now.

Lie after lie after lie. . .

It wasn't until he heard his name being called that Seo came out of his thoughts, blinking as he caught the tail end of his roommate's name. He had no clue who that was, but after taking a quick look around, it became. . . rather clear who that was.

Wow, there are a lot of girls in this class. He thought with a scratch of his chin, giving a wave of acknowledgment his dormmate, but making no effort to actually hurry over to them. He had all the time in the world to say high to fleet admiral stick-in-the-mud. Despite his somewhat shaky response to her approach, he was genuinely happy to see her., and even more so that she even wanted to talk to him. He had. . . kinda blown the whole team off after his incident, and thought they'd wanted nothing to do with him after that.

Sapporo, Japan
Ishin Academy, Near Dorms. April 7th

Oh no. He'd never meant for this. Not like this. The bag fell into the cold slush on the ground and Shun moved. His muscles tightened, his adrenaline shot, and he moved. From one second, he was several feet away, and in a split second afterwards, he was knelt down, offering his senpai his hand to help her up. "Oh no! Senpai, I'm so sorry I didn't mean for you to get hurt!" Great, now he'd even caused his upperclassman to fall.

He'd not even thought that he'd just used his quirk, he was too busy making sure that the girl was okay. He helped her up as she continued talking about Ishin's class layouts, and how her class had been. "Huh. I never knew the school did that." Then again...

"I don't want to see another pamphlet from these damn hero programs." His father tore up multiple glossy pamphlets showcasing Shiketsu, Yuei, Seiai, and Ketsubutsu hero courses. "You're doing general studies, getting your mechanics license, and working with me at the garage. That's final."

There'd never been a pamphlet from Ishin Academy. Not a recent pamphlet anyways. When he'd made the snap judgment to leap forward that day on the bridge, catching a girl from another middle school and landing them both safely onto the sidewalk, he'd been reprimanded and dressed down by both the local police and his teacher. But it was after that moment that Kageyama Sensei took him aside and talked to him earnestly. "You made a snap decision that saved that girls life. If that's not heroic, I don't know what is. But you've never shown interest in a hero course, Shun. I think you'd do great in a course like that. You're kind, your quirk can be used to save people..."

They'd talked for hours afterward, and by the end of it, Mr. Kageyama had sent Shun's information to multiple schools to get packets. "There's still a chance to apply Shun!"

Then his father had found out and destroyed all of the pamphlets from the schools. Shun retired to his room, defeated by the man who'd grown colder and sadder after his mother's death. It had been his grandmother who barged in, holding an old, browned envelope. "This was left for you when you were young, first showing off your quirks. We knew that you had something special dear." Shun opened the envelope to see aged paperwork for Ishin Academy. It was stark. Nothing about activities or different heroes. Just simply: "ISHIN ACADEMY IS WHERE THE NEXT GENERATION OF GREAT HEROES IS BORN." In bold, stark kanji.

"Are you sure they'd even accept this? This is...so old."

His grandmother smiled, looking wistfully out the window. "I know they will."

"You're sure you're okay senpai?" Shun asked again. He felt horrible that he'd caused her to fall, even if he had never pushed her. He knelt down picking up his paper bag. The slush had made it soggy. He pulled the pineapple from the deteriorating bag, making sure it was okay.

He still needed to see his room and prepare for tomorrow. And eat. He definitely needed to get lunch and dinner too! Tomorrow was the real start; the first big day of his career. He had so many people to thank for being here at Ishin, and he promised himself that he would never let any of them down.

Interacting With: Asuka @Hero

“Sakurami Asuka, huh?” Yoshiba uttered, turning to face her supposed dorm-mate as the upperclassmen continued to make a fool of themselves.

The blue-haired girl didn’t have much to think of the peppy girl. She was polite, formal. Yoshiba wondered what kind of hero she’d turn out to be. She didn’t catch any conversation where she explained her quirk or motivation, so all she had was the forced introduction that the upperclassmen had made them participate in not too long before they arrived on the west side of the campus courtyard.

She looked over the girl more carefully as her hand gripped her suitcase tighter.

“We should get our things settled in our room. C’mon, let’s go. We can talk on the way, if you want.”
