High Town, 8:45pm

Solitude was the last thing Nicholas Blackthorn wanted to leave behind. He stared outside the window of the car that had picked him up from the airport. He was glad that his host had chartered a private plane for him to travel in. While a commercial flight would have been acceptable in economy or first class. Nicholas didn’t think he could handle his first interaction with a group full of people being on a cramped plane. He smiled to himself. The irony of his thoughts not lost to him. He was a four century old vampire who’d seen a lot of horrors in his days walking on this rock. Yet the idea of being around a group of people, let alone humans put him on edge. It was an amusing yet sobering thought. Nicholas looked down at his hand and squeezed it closed. He felt anxious but then that was nothing new.

Calm wasn’t a state he had felt in the last fifty years. Sure he had known moments of reprieve, but true peace of mind was alien to Nicholas these days. He had lost that. When he’d lost her. Audrielle. Nicholas sighed, berating himself mentally. He had promised himself a new start, a new beginning. The past...would be the past. He could not change it. Audrielle was gone. He could not change her fate. He could only live with it, accept it. At least that is what he had promised himself when he had made the decision to agree to his host’s invitation. His life could no longer remain stagnate. Nicholas needed a new purpose and Special Zone was a good enough place as any to start. He only hoped that his less than reputable reputation didn’t hinder things too much. Which was where his esteem host came in.

Lord René Belmont

He was an old friend to put it mildly. Nicholas didn’t trust him and for good reason. Rene was one of the oldest vampires in existence, source blood of the fire god Asura bloodline, and the biggest pain in the ass he had ever met in his immortal life. Rene never did anything unless it benefited him. Which was why despite his offer to play host for him. Nicholas pondered how it benefited the elder vampire. Rene never did anything out of the goodness of his heart. He was a slippery bastard that way. Nicholas had witness many times how far Rene would go to achieve his goals. So his invitation hadn’t been looked upon without suspicion. Nicholas adjusted himself in his seat as he removed his phone from his jacket pocket. It was a new device provided to him before he had boarded the plane. He hadn’t wanted the object but Rene’s handler sent to facilitate his traveling arrangements had insisted.

Nicholas frown, remembering the moment. He wondered if there was more to it now looking back. Rene never left even the smallest detail to chance, everything was apart of his plan. Nicholas was leisurely studying the screen on his phone when the image changed as a familiar name appeared. He groaned as Rene’s tag flash between rings. Nicholas thought about not answering. It would not be the first time he had ignored the older vampire. It certainly would not be the last. He sighed. Nicholas was so tempted but he thought better of it. Rene might be in pain but he had helped him enter the city with any issue. It would be detrimental to sour his host good will before they parted ways. Sliding his finger over the touch screen, Nicholas lifted the phone to his ear and answered. “What do you want?” Almost immediately he could sense the elders vampires amusement.

“That's no way to speak to your host.” Rene replied. His laid back tone was hard to read. Nicholas was unsure what was Rene’s angle but he was definitely certain there was one. “After all that I have done for you Nicholas.” Rene continued his voice sounding playfully hurt. “You wound me.” Nicholas doubted that. The older vampire didn’t know the meaning of such emotions. “Get to the point Rene” He pressed. Nicholas wasn’t in the mood to play games. He had just arrived from a long flight and barely had the patience. “Your not any fun but have it your way old friend.” The source blood sulked but gave in. “I have a meeting tonight.” He paused. “With the four covens.”

Nicholas stilled at Rene’s words. That was the last thing he had wanted to hear. “I thought you kept my arrival secret.” Rene smiled on the other end of the phone. That is what he liked about Nicholas. He was always straight to the point and quick on the up keep. “I have kept your arrival from the council’s notice.” He replied. “However we both know that you will have to meet with the council sooner, or later.” Which was true Nicholas could not remain hidden forever. Sooner or later someone would notice him and report back to the coven. This meeting would lay down the groundwork, so that when the time came they would have the upperhand. It would also play into some long terms goals Rene had in the works. He only needed Nicholas to play his part when the time came. “Don’t worry old friend I have everything handled.” That is what Nicholas was afraid of.

With Aida & Louis

There they went again. Lounging on a nearby chair, Audrielle watched as Aida and Louis spoke as if she wasn't there. They spoke softly, as if trying to keep their conversation a secret but it wasn't working. Instead, the person they had secluded from their conversation was following along as they discussed the plans for the council meeting that night with the source bloods. It wouldn't be her first meeting and they acted on edge every time. Audri, personally, didn't understand why. It wasn't like she ever had anything to say. No, it was Louis who spoke for the Chaotic Bloodline, with Aida occasionally pitching in. All she did was stand there hoping the meeting would be over so she could go do more enjoyable things with her time. With an annoyed expression, she rested her elbow against the arm of the chair and heaved a sigh. "I don't know why you two are making it such a big deal." she snorted softly. "I also don't see why I even have to go."

Aida frowned and turned her head to look over at Audrielle. "We've been over this before, Audrielle. You're our source blood so it's only right that you be present." she pointed out, in her usual soft tone. Louis nodded his agreement and sat up a bit straighter. "You may not have your memories back but it is undeniable who you are. The council knows of your existence so it would look poor of us to not bring you along." He added firmly.

"The only reason they would want me there is ogle at me and whisper about what I used to be like." Audrielle grumbled under her breath. Despite her protests, she rose to her feet. There was no use in trying to fight any further anyways. Aida and Louis had always standed firm in keeping her involved with council meetings. She suspected that they hoped that it would trigger her memories if she participated in such things. Unfortunately for them, those memories seemed to be locked and sealed away for good. After so many attempts to reach them and her powers over the last decades, Audrielle was beginning to doubt that they would ever be unlocked and even more so, began to doubt she was the person everyone claimed her to be. She'd never voice these thoughts to anyone though, especially not Aida and Louis. The two held far too strongly to the claim of her being the same Lady Eve that they had known in the past to ever see reason.

Noticing the two eying her, she gestured for them to lead the way out of the home she shared with Aida. "Let's getting this meeting over with." Audrielle sighed. "Wouldn't want to be late after all." Aida perked up slightly with Audrielle's sudden compliance and nodded her head eagerly. Usually the Lady Eve would have put up more a fight but for once it seemed her stubbornness had died down. Aida hoped it was a sign that Audrielle was getting comfortable with her duties as a source blood and readjusting back to the life she once had. Well, not exactly the same life. After all, he was still missing.

As Aida fell to the back of the group, her gaze lingered on the blonde in front of her, a sudden feeling of dread twisted her stomach at the thought of the Executioner. Aida had kept that part of her history hidden from her and didn't have any plans on sharing it with the lady any time soon. Nicholas had been a vampire Aida once had great respect for and to some degree, she understood his pain after the crushing loss of the Lady Eve. However, his act of genocide could not go unacknowledged. Not to mention that Aida feared how Audrielle would take the news of what had become of her beloved when she regained her memories. Aida knew her well enough to know that Audrielle wouldn't hesitate to go find him, regardless of any warning she received about how he had changed.

Audrielle casted a quick glance over her shoulder, feeling the eyes of Aida, burning into her back. She quickly looked away and focused back ahead as Louis unlocked the car for them. It was common for the Old Blood to give her such looks. So much so that Audrielle had damn near become immune to them. Aida never said what was on her mind when she stared at her like that but it wasn't difficult to guess that the elder vampiress was remembering her past, especially with such somber looks. Audrielle had given up asking though since Aida's lips had been sealed for fifty years so it was unlikely that they'd suddenly open now. Instead, the lady simply ducked her head to sit in the back seat of the car while Louis got into the driver's seat and Aida the passenger's.

A silence fell over the group as Louis started up the car and began their drive to the meeting place. Absently, Audrielle stared out the window, listening to the music that was coming from the radio that Aida had turned on. It was calming and it also helped her ground herself a bit as she prepared to stand on the sidelines of a meeting that she had very little to do with. The music also helped the car ride fly by. Before long, the group was pulling up to the small office space that was located at the center of the special zone. There was nothing particularly impressive about the building and it made it all the more easy to keep hidden from the humans that lived there. As well as whoever else the council wished to hide from.

Stepping out of the car, Audrielle stretched her back for a moment and then glanced around at the cars parked nearby. Having been to a handful of meetings now, she was beginning to recognize the cars of that the others drove. "Looks like the Void and Fire bloods beat us here." she mused before turning her head to look over at Louis and Aida as they stepped up besides her. Louis narrowed his eyes slightly and nodded his head. "I would hope so." he grumbled. "Rene's the one that insisted on this meeting taking place. It'd be rude of him to be late."

"Well, you know how Rene is. Always a flair for the dramatics." Aida sighed. "Come on, let's go inside."

Louis nodded his head, disliking the thought of wasting anymore time. He didn't want the Lady Eve around these vampires for any longer than she had to be. The old blood had his own concerns when it came to dealing with them and her. He lead the way, walking rather rigidly as opened the door. Behind him, Audrielle trailed after him, crossing her arms over her chest as she braced herself for another less than exciting meeting.

WareHouse District, 8:55pm

There was something almost comical about the events tonight. Rene Belmont in his eight hundred years had never called a council meeting. Oh he attended when other meetings were scheduled, but to call one of his own. No that wasn’t his style. Which was most likely why the other members were either on edge or curious about his intentions. It was amusing. Rene placed his phone down on the seat next to him, as he looked out the window of the vehicle. He had just ended his call with Nicholas a few short minutes before. The old blood had been rather neutral about the news but he knew better. Nicholas wanted nothing to do with the council and Rene could not blame him. Fifty years was a long time to hold onto a grudge, but the old blood had reason.

Nicholas was a shell of his former self. The murder of the Lady Eve had broken him in ways the council hadn’t forseen. They could have stopped his descent but chose not to. Instead allowing his grief to forge him into a weapon, a very deadly one. The council liked to pretend that Nicholas was some kind of monster. However his transformation was just as much his own fault as it was theirs. Those were...dark days. Rene remembered them quite vividly. He’d been opposed to using the old blood as a tool, but out voted two to one. Many had believed he would defy the will of the council and rebel, fortunately for them that wasn’t how Rene opperated. He had a longer game and if tonight’s bit of theater panned out. Rene would be moving another piece on the board. “We are arriving my lord.” His chauffeur announced, turning into the lot that housed the meeting location.

Rene nodded to confirm but kept his gaze trained on the images outside his window. There were a few cars stationed outside the building. Rene recognized some of them. The first vehicle he noticed belonged to Lady Eve. Rene watched as Audrielle stood outside looking far from enthusiastic. She obviously didn’t want to attend tonight's event. Aida and Louis were also present but that was expected. The two caretakers never seemed to leave the young source bloods side. Rene sympathized with Audrielle, she clearly didn’t have a moment of reprieve with those two hovering. He watched as they disappeared inside. Rene stepped out of the car. He adjusted his suit as he eyed the second automobile in the lot. It belonged to someone he knew all too well. “Simon. Simon. Simon.” Rene shook his head lazily. “Should have known you would be ridiculously on time.”

Oldest of the four source bloods and ever prompt. Simon Heartwell. Rene wasn’t surprised to see the the leader of the void bloodline present tonight. Simon never missed a session involving the covens. He also was probably curious as to the nature Rene had called this meeting like many others. Not that he had any intention of showing his card just yet. Sliding his hand into his jacket pocket, Rene began walking away from the lot towards the building. He knew a few others than Simon, Audrielle and her entourage were already inside. So his presence was one of the few that were fashionably late. Rene pushed open the door and stepped inside. The hallway he walked along wasn’t long and quickly led him into the main room housing his esteemed council members.

“I see I am the near last to arrive.” He announced as he took his seat at the other end of the table. “My apologies for arriving so late.” His statement was empathetic but everyone could see Rene was far from apologetic. “Enough with the dramatics Rene.” Simon’s calm yet stern voice came from the other end of the table. It was time for this meeting to begin. He was used to the younger source blood’s antics and occasionally even entertained them. However, tonight was different. Rene had called for this meeting and Simon wanted to know why. “You wanted this meeting. We are here.” Simon motioned around the table. “ Now tell us why.” Rene smiled at Simon’s little push.

The meeting had barely even begun and the older source blood was demanding answers. Rene would of course oblige him...eventually. For now he would only give a taste of what he had in store. “So pushy Simon.” He leaned back into the chair, positioning himself comfortably. “We’ve only just arrived and you want to talk business.” Rene’s hand theatrically “How borish of you. Why, I haven't even had a chance to welcome our dear Lady Eve to the table.” He nodded in acknowledgement to Audrielle, ignoring Simon’s piercing gaze. Rene so enjoyed winding him up.

However Simon was right. Rene did need to give them something to get these proceedings going. If he allowed his behavior to delay this any further. What he truly wish to gain would be placed out of reach. Rene had a goal, so he shifted tactics. The playful glint left his eyes and his smirk turned to stone. “You asked me why I called this meeting Simon.” Rene looked to the elder vampire, but his gaze slowly began to circle around the table. “It's simple.” His head stopped til his gaze landed on someone particular. “I called this meeting in regards to…Audrielle"

With The Council

Upon stepping inside, there was nothing there that wasn't already expected. The table was set up as usual and members of the council were already taking up their usual seats. Audrielle didn't waste time in sliding into her spot and as per usual, her two caretakers took up the empty seats on each side of her. She leaned heavily into her seat, reaching into her pocket to pull out her phone. The young source blood doubted she was truly needed for this meeting. If it was anything like the others, whatever they spoke about would be foreign to her anyways. Out of the corner of her eye, she saw Aida cast her a disapproving look but didn't voice any object she may have felt towards Audrielle's behavior. The young source blood didn't bother to look up from her phone until Rene finally stepped into the room.

Out of everyone in the council, he easily interested her the most. He was a wild card and someone who always had Louis and Aida on edge. While she wasn't sure how much she actually trusted him, his dramatics were at least a bit entertaining to her, especially when everyone else was usually so stiff and formal. Apparently they hadn't been on the worst terms during her past life either according to Aida. Audrielle shifted her gaze over to Simon as he prompted Rene for the reasoning behind this meeting. Just as he did, she felt Aida nudge her leg and turned to see the old blood gesture for her to put the thing away. Audrielle rolled her eyes annoyedly but obliged and shoved the electronic back into her pocket. While she could have ignored her, part of Audrielle was curious about the meeting. As far as she knew, Rene rarely, if ever, called such gatherings. Even if she wasn't directly involved, she was curious about what the source blood had to share with the council.

A faint smirk crossed her lips as Rene toyed with Simon and addressed her. In response, the young source blood dipped her head to him in a respectful manner. It was a gesture she hadn't bother to give Simon. Whether he cared about such things or not, she wasn't against irritating the old source blood, who was often an offender of taking about subjects she didn't understand. Besides her, Louis glanced over at her with a faint frown and she shrugged her shoulders a bit carelessly before focusing her gaze onto Rene. His sudden shift in attitude didn't slip past her attention and it caused her to pay a bit more attention as he slowly built up to what he had to say.

Audrielle watched his gaze filter over the faces sitting at the table and waited to see who it would land on. It was almost like a planned game of spin the bottle only she hadn't been prepared for it to land on her. Her hazel eyes blinked in bewilderment as Rene focused his gaze on her and announced that he had called the meeting for some reason pertaining to her. Confusion flashed over her features. It wasn't the first time the council had discussed her but it was the first time Rene had. Well, at least it was the first time he had called a meeting regarding her at least. Though she had no idea where he was going with this, it wasn't difficult to guess that it likely had something to do with regaining her memories.

The council had discussed and tried multiple tactics. They had gone over her timeline, shown her personal objects, taken her to where she had once lived, shared stories, and more but nothing had jogged the lady's memory. Audrielle thought they had given up with trying anything new but now suspecting Rene had something in mind made her particularly interested. The source blood wasn't as stiff as the others so perhaps his plan would be a bit more out of the box. Something that would be enough to stir something in her, whether it was her powers or memories. The thought of getting back the powers she had heard the others talk about excited the young source blood and she looked to him with eager curiosity. He had called this meeting with a plan in mind and she wanted to know what it was.

Apparently the excitement wasn't shared though.

Louis and Aida had both gone tense as soon as her name had left the source blood's lips. Aida shifted a bit closer to her friend and glanced with uncertainty towards Simon, trying to gauge the source bloods reaction. However, before he could say anything, Louis spoke up. "And what exactly does that mean?" Louis questioned, struggling to keep the accusation out of his voice. Despite not being a source blood, he eyed Rene evenly. "If this is about her memory or powers, the council has already discussed this and we're trying what we can. I see no reason to go over the same things again."

"Hold on, Louis. Just hear what he has to say." Audrielle suddenly spoke up, placing a hand on the old blood's shoulder before focusing her gaze on Rene. "What exactly did you want to discuss about me, Belmont?" she asked, leaning forward slightly to rest her elbows against the table.

That's what Rene enjoyed about Audrielle, she was always up for an adventure. It was refreshing to see, even if there wasn’t much she could do to put it into practice. The majority vote of the council and the Lady’s caretakers had seen to that. So much of her freedom had been stifled over the years. Tonight Rene would use that to his advantage. He had to if he was to bypass the resistance at this table. His words prior had placed an air of caution around the room. That was good. Rene did not like easy pray. He continued to keep his face trained from his usual lazy or amused front he wore. It was paramount that no one figured out his motivation.

“Such hostility...and we have barely even begun.” The vampire sat back in his chair, crossing his fingers over one another. The game was indeed a foot and the next move was his own. “I guess I could put some of you at ease.” Rene circled his indifferent gaze between Louis, Aida and Simon. He had never approved of keeping crucial details of Audrielle’s past from her. The joint efforts over the years hadn’t done much to awaken the girl. Audrielle’s power nor her memory were at its fullest potential. Rene both appreciated and blamed such caution on the group before him. Aida’s concern and genuine care for the girl blinded her to what needed to be done.

Louis was an enigma. He clearly took his role as caretaker seriously, but his motivations. Rene had yet to gain a clear perspective on what that was. Nevertheless his actions as well hadn’t done much to improve the Lady’s Eve’s gap in memory. Then there was Simon, his role in the status quo had been the most unforgivable in Rene’s opinion. Out of the trio Simon was the only one who knew what it meant to be a source of blood. That without her powers, let alone some of her memories Audrielle would never be whole. So for him to vote in favor of the young source blood caretakers, that certain details never reach Audrielle’s ears. Well Rene just could not abide that.

So he cared not if certain interested parties were a bit on edge with the subject of conversation. “However I will not.” Rene smiled, but his eyes were completely sober. “Instead I will get down to the business of why we are here.” Simon shifted across the table. Rene ignored him as he directed his gaze back to Audrielle. There wasn’t anyway he was going to allow the source blood to derail this discussion. “To answer your question Lady Eve” He used her title as he continued. “I believe it's time you had a guardian.” The table went silent at his words, but it was Simon who recovered first.

“I hardly think that is necessary Rene.” Simon looked at his equal across the table. He could not figure out what Rene’s angle in all this was. Yes it was certainly well within Audrielle’s right to have one. She was a source and without her powers it would be beneficial to such protection. What Simon did not like nor could perceive at the moment how this benefited his rival. It was something he intended to find out as soon as he contained this situation. Rene meanwhile at the other end of this mental sparing had anticipated Simon’s resistance as well as a few other elements.

That’s where Audrielle came in. Such a prospect of choice had to be appealing to the young vampire. A guardian had many benefits to a source blood. The most paramount being freedom. Rene was certain that was something that definitely would hold some charm to Audrielle. It was that detail that he held in belief that would propel the young lady to override her caretakers and vote with him. “I don’t see any reason why she should not Simon.” Rene replied to the elder source blood. “Audrielle is of age and mature enough to make a selection on her own.” He looked around the table, daring an objection. There were a few counter arguments that could be made. Unfortunately most of them involved insulting the younger source blood.

Simon was many things but not a fool and the others here dared not ruin alliances. Which left Audrielle’s caretakers as the next form of resistance. Rene looked to Aida and Louis neurtally. “Unless...you two have any concerns?”

With The Council

Louis clearly was uncomfortable with Audrielle suddenly jumping in and voicing her interest in whatever Rene had to say. However, he couldn't object to his source blood, even if she didn't have her memories. Luckily for him, Audrielle didn't notice his discomfort as her attention was instead focused on Rene, listening with a hint of impatience as the source blood toyed with the others at the table. She supposed she shouldn't have been surprised. After all, Rene was never one to get straight to the point. He always seemed to dance around topics of discussion, in a way that seemed to usually irritate.

As Rene finally turned back to address her, the young source blood sat up a bit straighter. She blinked in mild surprise as Belmont suggested that she should have a guardian. Though not overly familiar with the position, it had been discussed prior in private between her and her caretakers. Aida had been the one to originally bring it up only for Louis to advise against it and ultimately change the other old blood's mind. From what she recalled, a guardian would be additional protection—in other words another person to hover over her—but it would also open a door to a more free lifestyle. A way to travel around without the constant fretting of Aida and Louis. Just thought of it lit a spark in the young lady's gaze.

While the wheels turned in her head, Louis stiffened at the suggestion. He disliked the idea of entrusting the young source blood with anyone aside from himself, Simon and Aida. The three were almost always on the same page, aside from the few times Aida strayed. Not to mention that it would allow her freedoms that had previously been off limits. It was a risk that Louis didn't want to take. "We've... discussed this topic privately." Louis admitted slowly as Rene turned his focus onto the two caretakers. "I don't believe it will be beneficial to her. After all, Aida and myself watch over her enough as it is. So, I must agree with Simon. I think it's unnecessary."

"I... I wouldn't completely say unnecessary." Came the soft voice of Aida. She shifted uncomfortably in her seat and swept her gaze over the council before focusing back onto Rene. "Added protection could be a good thing, as I doubt myself or Louis could do much under attack but I'm also hesitant to trust anyone in that position..." A small frown crossed her lips. The Lady Eve was still weak and a guardian was supposed to be a trusted warrior. Audrielle had very few interactions with the rest of their coven so Aida wasn't sure who would even fit the job. She had hoped that as the years passed, someone would rise to the occasion but no one had. To throw a stranger into that position wasn't something that Aida wanted to do.

But it didn't matter what Aida wanted.

A snort came from Audrielle. "I'm sure we could find someone to fill it just fine." The young source blood suddenly piped in. There was a gleam of excitement in her light hazel eyes. Freedom, if only a small portion, was in her grasp thanks to Belmont. While she doubted that was his intention, she wasn't going to let the opportunity slide away from her. "I agree with Rene. I think a guardian would be good for me. After all, I still have no memories and no powers. As you said Aida, some extra protection could be a good thing."

Louis turned his head to look over at Audrielle with a hint of surprise. It was the most input she had ever given at one of their council meetings and of course, it was for something that would threaten his plans. Trying to fight against the instinct to clench his jaw in frustration, he let out a soft sigh and ran a hand through his messy hair. "Lady Eve I understand why it might seem appealing but you would have to pick your guardian and well..." he paused, finding his words difficult to say without insulting the young source blood. ".. you're just not very familiar with most aside from myself and Aida. Picking a guardian would be difficult since they need to be someone you personally trust to protect you."

Audrielle rolled her eyes. It sounded like an excuse to her. "Well, I'm sure between you and Aida, you could figure out some proper options for me." she responded with a small snort. Her hazel gaze danced over to Rene and a smirk tugged at the corner of her lips. If Louis and Aida wouldn't provide suggestions she had a feeling she knew someone who would. While how trustworthy Belmont was was up for debate, surely he had someone in mind to be her guardian. That must have been why he brought it up and perhaps she could use that to her advantage when it came to persuading her reluctant caretakers.

"Besides Louis, if you can't think of anyone, I'm sure Rene here can recommend someone to me." Audrielle mused with an air of casualness as she looked expectantly at the source blood. "You brought the topic up so I'm assuming you have someone in mind for the position, right Rene?"

Rene had to admit he was enjoying watching the grasp of control slip from Simon and Audrielle’s caretakers. He always knew that the day would come but to see the slow descent. Well it was delicious. “Well that is two votes in favor.” He looked across the table towards Simon. The elder vampire was quiet but clearly aggravated. Rene wanted to smile and bask in his minor victory. He refrained from doing so. It was better to allow Simon and the others to facilitate their own demise. Why jeopardize his plan when they could do all the work for him. “Lady Eve may be in favor of a guardian Belmont.” The older source blood began to reply. “However her caretakers have done an exemplary job so far.” Simon pointed out. “I don’t see any reason to disrupt the status quo.” Rene looked blankly at the statement. While it was true that Audrielle hadn't come under any harm in their care. She also hadn’t progressed much in her skills as a vampire let alone a source-blood. It was time for that to change.

“I see your point Simon. Aida and Louis have done a adequate performance in their endeavor to raise Audrielle.” Rene paused for a moment as he pretended to ponder over the elders words. Simon frowned he saw where this was going. He hated Rene’s games. They always had a tendency to benefit him and him alone. Which was what was infuriating about all of this. He was using Audrielle. Simon hadn’t any idea why. All he knew was that something in all this played right into Rene's hands. He looked at the younger source blood.Wishing that he could give into his baser instincts and snap his neck. He didn’t of course but because Simon was sure this would only help Rene’s aims further.

“I doubt you do Rene.” Simon retorted back. He looked between Aida and Louis urging them to help him end this nonsense. Louis chimed in agreeing with him but Aida. She sat there awkwardly joining in agreement with Rene and Audrielle. Simon shut his eyes to hide his annoyance. He did not like to be outmaneuvered. “That is three in agreement now.” Rene chimed back in. Simon did not even bother replying back. Anything he said more would only feed the younger source blood. Audrielle jumped back into the conversation. Simon could hear the excitement in her voice as she bypassed Louis objections. No doubt she was thrilled. Audrielle had been sheltered most of her new life and a guardian would provide her free she had never had in Louis or Aida’s care.

Rene’s motion tonight offered her the keys to the kingdom. Simon knew there was no way she was passing that up, which was probably what Belmont was banking on. Simon hated this. He did not want to be the bad guy and take this from Audrielle. However her safety was much more important then friolouis desire. Audrielle had a legacy to protect. It was paramount that she remained secluded til her vampire abilities chose to activate. There were too many threats out there who would love to get their hands on the chaotic bloodline. Which made Simon wonder if Rene was beginning to be one of them. He had to nip this in the bud before the situation grew out of hand.

“If this subject is to be pursued.” Simon rejoined the conversation. He had heard the last bit as Audrielle redirected the conversation back to Rene. She left it open for him to advise on suggestions for potential candidates. Simon took the opportunity to add his own services to the mix. “My assistant can put together a list of suitable candidates for Audrielle.” Simon looked to Louis with a telling gaze. He would of course create a list for Aida and Louis to vet through. “I should be able to come up with something in a few weeks.” That would give Audrielle’s caretakers enough time to redirect the younger source bloods attention elsewhere.

“Let's say we reassemble then to push hunt further.” He suggested. It was a sound step to take and one that allowed him time to maneuver the control of the situation back into the proper hands. If they waited til then the source blood of the path bloodline would make their official return. They generally voted with Simon, so it would place Rene’s and Audrielle vote in a stalemate that would put this subject on the back burner. Rene sat back in his chair holding his amusement in check. He saw the desperate wheels in Simon’s head turning. He reveled in it. It was not everyday one got the best of a source-blood. Especially Simon. The old fox hadn’t achieved such heights of power without being cunning or strategic. It was just unfortunate that tonight Rene had made sure those skills would not serve him. He’d left nothing to chance.

“While your offer is admirable Simon.” Rene nodded to him, his eyes glinting with amusement. “I thought Audrielle would enjoy something more enjoyable while she searches for guardian.” Simon frowned, confused by the statement. “What do you mean?” He inquired. Rene didn’t bother focusing his attention on him. He instead looked to Lady Eve and smiled. “I will be hosting a party two night from now.” He began. “Many of the most prominent vampires who have potential to be Audrielle’s guardians will be there.” Rene continued to explain. “I propose that Audrielle be the guest of honor at the event and mingle among the guests to begin her search.” Simon’s hands clenched into a fist underneath the table, as realization of Rene’s words hit him. The younger source blood had been planning all of this a hell of a lot longer then he was letting on. This meeting was just a prelude to whatever he truly had in store. Audrielle was just the bait. Bastard Simon whispered under his breath. Cursing the day the fount ever made Rene Belmont his equal.

He needed a haircut. Maybe even a shave. Nicholas stood in front of the bathroom mirror of his hotel suite. He had just finished taking a showering and was glad to be rid of the grim from his flight. The room that had been booked for him was courtesy of Rene. Though he was certain even this overture had certain strings attached. It always did when it came to Belmont. At least, that was the impression Nicholas had gained during his conversation with the elder vampire. Rene was indeed plotting something. The old blood only wished he knew where he fit into those plans. The last thing Nicholas wanted was to be the center of a source blood’s power games. He had enough of that life.

The council. The Kolas children. They had already taken so much. Audrielle was gone. She was never coming back and he needed a fresh start. Nicholas’ time in exile had allowed him to come to terms with the past. He looked down at his hands. They looked so pruney after his shower. So clean...yet under the surface tainted. He had the blood of thousands. Nicholas would be lying if he admitted to feeling guilty. He didn’t. What he had done paled in comparison, to what had been taken from him. What the world would have become, if he had not embraced the darkness. The kolas lineage had been a threat that nearly wiped out both vampires and humans alike. Guilt was the last thing he felt for ending such abominations.

Their king killed Audrielle. Nicholas stepped away from the mirror, exiting the washroom. He entered the main sleeping area of the suite, as he sat upon the bed. His luggage was sat just a few meters away. Nicholas knew he should probably change and relax a bit. He needed the rest. He hadn’t any idea when Rene would call or barge in. When Nicholas had originally accepted the elders vampires aide in his decision of ending his exile. He hadn’t thought much of what the source blood wanted in return. It wasn’t like his insolation had left him with much in the way of assets. So he had taken the offering thinking it was friendly assistants. Nicholas shook his head. That was becoming a mistake he was fast coming to regret.

His arrival was only a few hours in and the scheming was already a foot. Nicholas wished he knew what the current political climate of the covens as well as the special zone was at the present. It would go a long way in helping him figure out what Rene was up to. Nicholas made a mental note to touch base with a few of his old contacts in the coven. Not many would be happy to see him but they owed him a few favors he could cash in on. He would call in the morning. Whatever Rene was planning, Nicholas was determined to be well out of dodge. Heck the council would probably thank him in the end. Nicholas smirked at the thought. If only that was possible.

The council had been all too happy to see the back of him after the rebellion. Nicholas hadn’t cared, he’d wanted to leave. So it worked out well for both parties. Though he wondered how the council would take the news of his return. Rene he was certain would not be letting the cat out of the bag as of yet. His phone call early had made that definite. Nicholas sighed, looking at the clock posted on the stand. It was getting late. He stood up and walked over to his luggage. He needed to get dressed and head to bed. He had a lot to accomplish if he was going to begin his fresh start on the right foot.

With The Council

Her gaze shifted away from Belmont as Simon suddenly chimed in. Her excitement dwindled down as the orderly source blood suggested that having his assistant create a list of eligible candidates for her to go over. While she wasn't exactly looking to pick the options Rene gave her, she was certain that Simon's options would be far more suffocating than the other source blood's. The whole reason she entertained Rene's proposal was to get the freedom she so desired. And that would be impossible to do with one of Simon's henchmen looming over her at every hour of the day. The lady sighed and rested her cheek against the palm of her hand, her excitement dying down slightly as she heard murmurs of approval coming from both Aida and Louis.

She was just beginning to give up hope when Rene butted in yet again. A glimmer entered her hazel eyes again as he offered his own solution, which involved a party. Parties weren't something the young source blood was able to enjoy very often so the thought of being able to attend one, even without a purpose, drew her in almost immediately. She didn't fully trust Belmont but he was entertaining to be around and suspected that his party would reflect that. And it might even give me the chance to find someone not nearly as stuffy as my caretakers... she thought with a burst of anticipation.

"That sounds wonderful, Rene." Audrielle responded, unable to suppress a grin from taking over her lips. "I think that's the best plan we have. At least it'd give me a real chance to get to feel out the options I have as far as guardians go." Having the party so soon would also limit the chance of Simon, Aida and Louis shoving their own stricter options down her throat. That was something she would gladly avoid at all cost. But it was going to be something she'd have to push for. Louis shifted uncomfortably besides her, glancing between Simon and Aida clearly looking for one of them to help stop the spiraling situation.

"Are you sure Audrielle?" Louis asked, pausing to purse his lips together. "This is quite last minute and it'll hardly give us a chance to round up our own suggestions with the party being so soon." His gaze flickered over to Rene, it lingered on the source blood for a moment before shifting back to Audrielle. "I would just hate for you to not have heard all of your possible options."

It wasn't difficult for Audrielle to tell that Louis was against the idea. The distrust in his expression towards Rene was obvious even if he was trying to mask it under the pretense of merely wanting to give her options. Unfortunately for Louis, his displeasure with the situation hardly mattered to the young source blood. She rolled her eyes at his effort to dissuade her from Belmont’s plans. “I appreciate the concern, Louis, but I still see no reason not to attend the party.” she shrugged her shoulders in a careless manner. “There’s no guarantee that I will even choose anyone from the party. It is possible that the party will not be a success in that department and then we can go over the other options who weren’t able to attend. That sounds fair enough, doesn’t it?”

Louis let out a soft sigh and looked over at Aida with his last ounce of fleeting hope that someone could talk Audrielle and Rene down. Aida, however, only offered a hapless glance. “I suppose that would work. Just keep in mind that you do have other options aside from whoever’s present at this party.” Aida advised her with a small frown. The caretaker was clearly concerned about the type of options Belmont would be presenting her at this party but like the others, clearly saw that Audrielle and Rene both wouldn’t be budging on this. She looked between Simon and Louis. “I suppose until then, we should just try to invite as many of our own candidates as we can. Hopefully some of them will be able to attend as well.”

“Of course, of course.” Audrielle sighed, expecting this much from them. They always made their voices heard one way or another so Aida’s insistence on reminding her that there would be other options than presented at the party was not surprising. She just hoped she could find the right person for the job. Someone that fit her as a guardian rather than as just another over protective caregiver. It mattered very little to her who the person was recommended by so long as they fit what she was looking for. “I’ll keep that in mind but if I find someone for the job there, don’t be surprised.” she told her caretaker firmly. Her hazel eyes swept over Simon before landing onto Rene.

“Well, I believe that’s settled then. I’ll attend your party as the guest of honor and hopefully, it’ll prove successful in my search for a guardian.” she mused with calm decisiveness. She leaned back in her chair and gave a thoughtful look as she asked,“If that’s all, are we ready to end this meeting?” The young source blood certainly hoped that was all Belmont had called them for. It had proven to be quite interesting but that didn’t mean she wanted to stick around for any other more boring reports that usually excluded her.

Victory was indeed a satisfactory feeling, especially when one's advisory played right into your hand. Rene looked across the table with a calm smile as he eyed Simon. The elder source-blood was indeed livid by Audrielle's decision. He most likely wanted to retake control but since Rene’s vote supported her stance. There was little he could do. One source blood could not exert authority over another. Which left Simon’s hands tied and Rene mentally toasting to his victory. He looked to Audrielle as she confirmed her attendance for tomorrow evening. “Excellent. Now that we are in agreement” Rene rose to his feet. “I believe that Audrielle is correct, we should adjourn the meeting” Simon stood up as well, nodding in agreement as a response. It was clear he had a lot more to say. He eyed Louis and Aida with a stern look as he headed towards the door. Rene could clearly see what his silent message implied. Simon was telling the pair to fix this before things grew out of hand.

The desperation almost made Rene laugh out loud. He contained himself of course but he could not help but be smugly satisfied. Simon would use everything in his arsenal to bring this all to heel but it was too late. What Rene had planned for tomorrow evening was just one step in changing the landscape of power Simon and many others in his inner circle had held onto for far too long. It was time to shake things up and Audrielle was just one of many elements that Rene would introduce to accomplish his overall goals. “I look forward to seeing you tomorrow evening Audrielle.” Rene bowed to the younger vampire in a gentlemanly gesture, then turned towards the door to make his exit. Before he left Rene turned once more toward the young source blood to add the final piece to his plan this evening. “Oh the theme is masquerade.” He smiled wickedly. “So be sure to wear your best domino mask.” He informed the trio as he headed out of the door towards his waiting vehicle.

Once inside Rene finally let the control he was holding onto slip. His eyes flamed with delight as the car pulled out of the lot into the traffic. He had succeeded in the first step in his plan.Tomorrow evening would be the next. There would be of course a few hiccups but Rene was expecting that. The only wild element he was concerned with was Nicholas. The old blood wasn’t a fool. Nicholas had to be suspicious, The old blood had known Rene enough to be aware that he never did anything without an agenda. Something was always in benefit for him. Which was true. Rene never saw a point to acquire or do something unless it could have value. Some would call him cold. Rene didn’t care. He nor his clan hadn’t survived this long because of novel notions. He would not start now. Rene had a goal and while tonight was just the first of many steps. Tomorrow evening the first spark would ignite.

The source blood smiled as he relaxed into the comforts of his personal transportation. He eyed his phone as he filtered through his messages. His assistant confirmed most of the guest list had RSVP their invites for tomorrow evening. Rene wasn’t surprised that many of the younger families were eager to attend. It was very rare when a source blood hosted an event they attended. So when one did there was always a curiosity within the community of the motive. The last time a source blood held an event they personally hosted, the path bloodline executed a traitorous house within their court. So many would be flocking tomorrow evening to witness what Rene would be doing to top such an event. The source-blood closed his phone as he looked out the window of the car. His lips curled in a satisfied smirk.

He was certain that the two stars of tomorrow evening would not only appease their curiosity. It would also set off a chain of events that Rene had waited for nearly forty years to implode. The car pulled into the lot of the hotel of his current dwellings. Rene never stayed in one place for very long for security reasons. So each one of the hotels he own had a person penthouse suite that occupied. The current one he was staying at he would use for the festivities for tomorrow evening. The hotel was also housing his recently arrived guest. Rene could not deny he was being calculating. He needed Nicholas to attend tomorrow evenings festivities. However convincing the old he knew would be challenge. Which is why the source-blood had placed the location for the party in the same hotel as Nicholas'dwellings.

The old blood would chew his ear off but Nicholas was a gentlemen. He may not want to attend but he would not insult his host and outright refuse. It was also good politics. One did not bite off the hand that fed you. Nick was not a fool he would not be please with Rene when he learned what the source blood hand in store for him. However the elder vampire was certain that by the time tomorrow night was over Nicholas would find his ire focused in another direction. Rene smiled. He so enjoyed surprises.

Louis sat tensely in his seat, watching as the meeting reached it’s end. It certainly hadn’t gone the way he had been hoping and it seemed the feeling was mutual with Simon. He shifted a bit as he caught the source blood’s stern look towards both him and Aida. The old blood knew it wouldn’t be easy to get out of whatever Rene was planning, especially since Audrielle was so caught up in it. It seemed that even with her memories gone, the source blood still held the same stubborn decisiveness that she had always had. Talking her out of going would likely prove impossible so the next best plan Louis could think of at the moment was to make sure as many of their own choices would be able to make this party or at least get in contact with Audrielle in another way before the young source blood made her final decision.

He slowly stood up from his seat, following the lead of the two source bloods. The old blood’s gaze was focused on Rene as he addressed the lady one last time. Belmont’s gesture nearly made him scoff in annoyance. Audrielle, on the other hand, seemed positively amused. Louis glanced over at her and Aida as Rene casually added that the party’s theme was masquerade. What the hell are you planning Belmont.. he wondered, disliking the fact that they were playing right into whatever Rene was planning. “We’ll be sure to remember that.” he mumbled, hanging back with Aida and Audrielle as the other two sources bloods made their exit.

“Well,” Audrielle grinned as she took a step for the door. “I don’t know about you two but I’m certainly excited to see how tomorrow goes.”

“Just remember to be careful, Audrielle.” Aida spoke, finally letting a deep frown of concern take over her features. “Belmont surely has his own agenda and I’m not certain it aligns with our own.”

“Which is exactly why you shouldn’t take this party too seriously. Once it is over, we can go over a proper list of candidates to choose someone who won’t be apart of whatever Rene has planned.” Louis said sternly.

All their words of caution made the young source blood roll her eyes. “I’ll keep that in mind.” she replied with a small edge to her voice that suggested the subject be dropped. Turning away from her two caretakers, she continued to head out of the building and back towards their parked vehicle. Louis hesitated, exchanging a concerned glance with Aida before they both followed after the source blood.

Not much was said between the trio during their return back to their homes. Louis was easily the most quiet, but Audrielle could tell it was only because his mind was trying to piece together a way to get around Rene’s plans. Aida attempted to talk a little more casually with the young source blood but her focus was clearly on the topic of picking out a guardian. Though she was trying to be discreet, Audrielle wasn’t as naive as her caretaker believed and caught on rather quickly. Eventually, they all retired to their own rooms for the night. Louis was set on putting together a list of their own candidates, Aida followed a similar path and Audrielle wasted no time in laying down for the night, trying not to dwell on the excitement that the next day would likely bring. Whether Belmont had other plans or not, she was one step closer to having much more freedom than Louis or Aida had ever offered her.

When the next morning did come, Audrielle was quicker than usual to rise from her bed. Normally the young source blood wasn’t a morning person but having plans she was looking forward to made her eager to start the day. Aside from her excitement though, the morning went as routinely as any other. She fixed herself a quick breakfast, which involved unwrapping a granola bar since she disliked the tediousness of cooking, and then took a shower before secluding herself in her room to avoid whatever plans her two caretakers had made during the previous night. Unfortunately, there was simply no way to fully escape. A knock came on the door to her room and she looked up from her phone with a frown.

“Audrielle,” Aida’s voice came muffled from the other side of the door. “when you have a chance today, I’d like to go over the list Louis and I constructed last night.” There was a pause of silence and when Audrielle didn’t say anything right away, the old blood let out a sigh. “We just want to show you your other options before the party this evening.”

The young source blood rose from where she had been sitting and opened the door with a small smirk. There was no way for her to get around the two old bloods shoving their options on her but she intended to make them work for it at the very least. “I understand, Aida.” she said as she leaned against the door frame. “But before we have to go over that, let’s go out and look for outfits for tonight.” Aida blinked, caught off guard by the suggestion and Audrielle gave a small laugh. “Come on, that’s what people usually do before big parties right? I know this is more about business than pleasure but we might as well look good and enjoy ourselves too. It is a party after all.”

Aida pursed her lips. “I suppose. You’ll sit down with us to go over the list after though right?” she asked with a stern gaze. Audrielle rolled her eyes at her caretaker’s sternness before nodding her head. “Yeah I’ll go over it with you after.” she relented. “Go on and get ready. I’ll meet you at the door.” The source blood waved off Aida before dipping back into her own room to fix her appearance slightly. She was glad to waste a bit of the day shopping with Aida. It wasn’t often that the young source blood was able to and looking forward to the evening, she hoped that it would make the time go by faster.

“You bastard!” Nicholas growled at the piercing blue gaze of his host. He was furious. It wasn’t like he hadn’t known Rene was planning something. This however hadn’t crossed Nick’s mind in the slightest. “You know damn well I wouldn’t want to attend any social gatherings.” He threw the invitation back at elder vampire. The last thing Nicholas had expected when he awoke this afternoon was one of Belmont’s servants knocking on his suite door handing him a designer envelope. He hadn’t known what any of the contents entailed but as he opened it and looked it over a sinking feeling began to set in.

It was an invite and not just any invite. A masquerade scheduled for tonight with the location being the very hotel he was being housed. Rage immediately set in as Nicholas demanded that the messenger tell him Rene’s locations. The source blood must have known what the younger vampire reaction would be. His servant immediately gave Nicholas his office location. Ten minutes later he was standing in the source blood office. He hadn’t been this furious since the council had taken Audrielle's remains and forced him to remain on the front lines. Rene didn’t seem over perturbed by the outburst though.

He sat in his desk chair rubbing the base of his ear. “I hear you just Nic. You don’t have to destroy my ear drum in the process.” Nicholas frowned. He did not care much for Rene’s discomfort at the moment. He hadn't been this furious in a long time. “You know damn well the last place I want to be is anywhere near the covens let alone the council.” He threw the invite on the desk. Rene picked up the parchment as he stared back at his guest. “Well good afternoon to you as well Nicholas.” The older vampire replied. Nicholas growled he was not amused and wasn’t in the mood to play any roundabout games. “Answer the question Rene.” He grounded out.

The source blood sighed then pouted. “Fine.” He whined. “You're not any fun, Nic.” The old blood looked to the elder vampire with murder in his eye. It was apparent he wanted answers and there wasn’t any amount sidestepping Rene tried to pull that would dissuade him. So Rene just this one time did him courtesy and did not. Even though he really wanted to. He knew better than most that when Nicholas was in this kind of mood it was best to deal with him head on especially if you wanted to persuade him. Which Rene did because Nic needed to be at the party tonight for the next half of his plan to be set in motion.

“I hardly call this a game Jinnai.” The elder vampire began. “We both know that you will have to meet with the council sooner, or later.” Rene looked at the old blood solemnly. He stood up from the desk, heading towards the large window of his office. “You just returned from a five decade exile and the last thing you need is the council gaining the upper hand on you and imposing on you another.” Nic remained silent but mentally he checked that Rene had a point. The council hadn’t ordered his exile the first time but they had been one major factor towards the reason he had left the first time. “They did not let you even see her remains Nic.” Rene reminded him. The old blood pressed his lips, he did not need reminding of what the council was capable of. It was one of the reasons why he wanted to keep a low profile now that he had returned.

“Get to the point Rene.” He pushed. The last thing Nic wanted was a trip down memory lane. “My point is that you have to face the council eventually.” Rene turned away from the window looking towards the old blood. “Why not do it on your own terms, and make it now?” The source blood suggested. Nicholas’s eyes narrowed. Rene seemed sincere but there was something in his word that piqued his suspicion. The younger vampire could not explain it but he was ninety nine percent certain there was more to this then Belmont was letting on. Rene ever did anything out of the goodness of his heart. This obviously benefited him in some way as well.

This party wasn’t just one of his mild mannered pranks he was known for. He was planning something that would cause a high scale of unbalance, and Nicholas did not want any part of it.“Find yourself another pawn Rene. I refuse to be used and paraded around for a political stunt against the council.” He was tired of the source bloods never ending game of supremacy. Belmont looked to Nicholas, waving his hand unceremoniously. He, unlike his guest, did not see anything wrong with a little surprise. Though Rene saw now he would have to use other means of persuasion to convince Nic to attend this evening. The younger vampire could be quite stubborn at times.

“I would never be so callous, as to force, or manipulate you into doing anything you did not wish to do old friend.” Rene walked towards the desk picking up the invite. Nicholas at first thought his host intended to leave the subject. However she should have known better. Rene never left anything to chance. ”Of course if you do not attend this evening, your name just might pop up…” He trailed off waiting for the desired effect. “Who knows what subjects might come up while conversing with my fellow council members.” Rene of course would not bring it up but it wasn’t like Nicholas was aware of that.

“Damn you Rene.” Nic spoke, as he walked towards the source blood snatching the invite from his hand. He turned heading toward the exit of the office. “Damn you to hell!” Nicholas slammed the door closed. He knew he hadn’t any choice in the matter now. He would attend the party. One the other side of the door. Rene’s crimson eyes lit up in amusement. He leaned back against the desk satisfied. Nicholas may not thank him right now but tonight his old comrade had no idea that this time Rene’s actions would prove beneficial to them both.

Special Zone House

With Aida & Louis

The day went by as well as Audrielle had expected. She had managed to get her way to some extent, mainly through traveling around to various stores. While the shopping itself wasn’t exactly thrilling to the young source blood, getting out of the house was. It was short lived as Aida nagged her about making the trip out short so they could go over the list she and Louis had made the night before. Audrielle had gotten around her patronizing for a decent amount of time before finally folding and picking out a dress. After that, the two had promptly returned back to the house where Louis was eagerly awaiting their arrival.

As she had promised, she sat down and listen to the the two blabber on about choices they felt were fitting to be her guardian. The young source blood barely paid them any attention during that time. Instead, she lounged comfortably on the couch, her mind wandering to other places. Namely the party that they’d soon be getting ready for. Audrielle knew it would likely be quite the evening, largely because of who was hosting it. Belmont must have been playing at some angle but it was difficult to say no to the opportunity he was presenting her. Perhaps it was a bit foolish but she’d sooner choose someone at the party than anyone of the random names Louis and Aida were listing off. At least then she would know that they wouldn’t be another ‘caretaker’ type trying to keep her locked up for her own safety.

Eventually the two finished their list and naturally, Audrielle just left them with the airy reply of ‘I’ll keep them in mind’ before hurrying off to get ready for the night’s events. As it grew later in the evening, the young source blood spent her time fixing her hair—braiding a strand of her golden hair and then curling the rest of it into thick ringlets—and adding a touch of make up to her face. Since it was a masquerade, the make up she did add was very light. A touch of mascara with eyeliner, and some lipstick to finish off a simple look. Finally, she put on her dress and mask for the event.

The dress was long, black mermaid gown with a sweetheart neckline. The bottom half was a tiered skirt, keeping it just above the ground without allowing for much of her shoes or legs to show. The top and bottom were both embroidered with elegant, golden designs. Her mask tied right into the dress as well. It covered from the lower half of her forehead down to her nose. The mask was fairly simple in design. It was pitch black with vines of gold along the edges. On one side, a fake, black rose had been attached while on the other side, a smaller golden rose was glued on. Straightening out her clothing and throwing on a pair of black heels that she had also purchased that day, Audrielle made her way out of her room to join the others that were already waiting downstairs for her.

“Oh, you look lovely, Audrielle.” Aida gave a smiled as her friend came into view.

“Thanks. You do to.” the young source blood replied unable to keep the surprise out her voice as she looked at her two caretakers. She couldn’t remember a time seeing them dressed up the way they were now. Aida wore a long, dark crimson dress with a plunging neckline. Her mask was shaped like butterfly wings and was the same dark crimson color. Louis, though not as bold as Aida, wore a simple black blazer with a red undershirt. His mask was pitch black and in the shape of bird’s beak, covering most of his face. “I feel like you two did a bit of color coordinating.”

“We did.” Louis spoke crossing his arms over his chest. “Should anything go wrong there, I hope that you’ll be able to find us.” Aida nodded her head in strong agreement. Her gaze met Audrielle’s with a hint of concern. “That’s right. Belmont and his intentions aside, there will be other characters there that might be a bit shady.”

Audrielle rolled her eyes, feeling like a young teen before prom with the way the two talked. “Relax you guys.” she sighed. “I’m wearing a mask and I doubt Belmont will even announce who I am until later in the night. Just try to enjoy the party and I’ll try to find a potential guardian, ok?” A silence followed as Louis and Aida exchanged uneasy looks, still not fully convinced of the safety of the party they were going to. Audrielle let out a small huff of annoyance. “—And if something goes wrong, I’ll find you.” she assured with emphasis on the ‘if’ part. The two caretakers seemed to relax a little at her reassurance before nodding their heads in agreement with her words.

“Yes, please do.” Louis sighed before digging into his pocket for his keys. Though he still dreaded having to go to the party that evening, he knew there was no sense in putting it off now that all three of them were dressed and ready. “Now that that’s settled, let’s head out.” he said with a motion to leave. As the two women followed him towards the door, the old blood began to brace himself to undermine whatever Belmont had in plan. Simon would certainly be pissed at him if he didn’t and he also personally didn’t want Audrielle playing right into the older source blood’s hand as he had a feeling their goals likely didn't line up.

The energy was high and peaked with both excitement and nervousness. Guests swirled around the dance floor entangled in multiple paired dancing. While even more so conversed and gossiped. There were domino masks everywhere and every guest was revelling in the act of mystery. Nicholas entered the ballroom taking in the display. It had been such a long time since he had engaged in such occasions. Isolation had allowed him to know many freedoms but hadn’t left many his social graces. I shouldn’t be here. Nicholas reminded himself. The last thing he needed was some random encounter or worse yet one with the council. The last one five decades prior was more than enough. He wanted to leave but with Rene’s veiled threats loomed over his head. The source blood clearly had some agenda set tonight. Nicholas wasn’t clear what that was but he was certain his presence was an integral part of the plan. He just wondered how integral?

Nicholas stepped into the mingling crowd of guests trying to blend in. He grabbed a goblet of blood from one of the waiters serving nearby and began to weave through the crowd. The old blood knew the best way to ensure he was not caught up in host schemes was to keep a low profile and make it hard for Rene to find him amongst the guests. Though Nicholas admitted to himself that was easier said than done. The domino mask he wore kept his identity much like the other guest secret. However unlike the rest of the guests his domino hadn’t been provided to them by the host himself. Nicholas frowned, taking a sip of drink. He hadn’t wanted to wear anything provided to by Rene. After the source blood’s veil threats earlier this evening Nicholas didn’t even want to accept a penny from his host.

Unfortunately with limited time and options he hadn’t had much choice in this particular area of his attire. “Hiding from someone Nicholas?” The old blood sighed, turning to face the devil himself. He should have known Rene would not waste anytime. “You of course.” The old blood did not deny. Nicholas would not even bother playing Rene’s cat and mouse game. His host may have the upper hand but the last thing Nic would do is give his host more to be smug about. “Ah Nicholas you always take the fun out of our encounters.” The old blood didn’t even bother answering. He took another sip of glass leveling Rene with a cool gaze. His expression was clear. Nicholas would not be taking the bait and the source blood was wasting his time. Rene pouted but he did not push. The last thing he needed was Nicholas having an outburst that would push his time table sooner than expected.

One of the waiters passed by handing Rene a goblet of blood of his own. He was about to take a drink when he noticed a familiar image standing on the staircase. Rene smiled. “If you excuse me Nicholas one of my other expected guests has arrived.” The old blood started curiously. He wanted t o ask what Rene had meant but the source blood had already vacated his company. Nicholas' gaze followed Rene as he weaved through the crowd towards the image that had taken his attention away. There were three figures that had just entered but only one of them garnered attention. No one announced her name but then this was a masquerade. Yet despite that Nicholas could not help but be drawn, and curious of the vision. In hundreds of years he had met many vampires but none like this. Nicholas felt something he had not felt in fifty years. He was intrigued.

He watched as Rene ascended the staircase to greet his newly arrived guest. Nic frowned. Questioning if this was a part of Rene’s plan. The old blood could not be certain and at this junction without more information he could not be sure. He only knew at the moment he needed to keep his distance. Rene could play his little game but Nic would not be played as a pawn without a fight. He stepped deeper into the crowd of guests pretending to mingle and blend in. Meanwhile Rene took in inviting his newly arrived guest in strides. He was happy to see despite Louis and Aida’s reluctants that the Lady’s Eve’s determination had won in the end. “Louis. Aida.” He nodded to the aides, then turned his attention back to his other guest of honor. “Audrielle, you look like a vision this evening.” The elder vampire complimented as he lifted her hand and nodded to her in respect. “Despite our real goal this evening.” He smiled. “I hope that you will honor me with a dance?” He stated the question.

While it was Rene’s goal to escort the young source blood this evening. His true goal was less than charitable to other elements this evening. Though one objective would be accomplished this evening. Audrielle in all the shell of her innocence would be shattered tonight. While others would learn the consequence of denying a shattered figure his chance to heal. Rene of course could not wait to see their faces. He of course knew he would not come out of this unscathed and poor Audrielle would most likely be confused. However if she was ever to become the vampire she was destined to be again. Then she needed a wake up call. Because this was only the first step of what he intended to achieve and he would be damned if he failed tonight.

“Audrielle allowed me to escort you around this evening.” Rene offered his arm. “A few of the candidates on the list I invited have already arrived this evening.” He smiled. “You can mingle and enjoy yourself while you see if they are to your liking.” The source blood wanted to make clear that Audrielle was in the driver seat for this endeavor. This was her choice even if Rene was pulling a few strings to rig the process from behind the scenes. “Shall we?”

With Aida, Louis, & Rene

As soon as the trio stepped through the door, Audrielle was taken by the sight before. It was practically mesmerizing to the young source blood. After years of being sheltered by her caretakers, parties such as the one before her were never something Audrielle had really been able to enjoy. Her caretakers tried to keep her presence as secretive as possible, only introducing her to those they deemed fit out of fear of her being targeted. When they entertained other old bloods or council members, it was never anything even close to what was before her that evening. Dancers swirled together in tight-knit pairs that moved with an elegance that Audrielle had never seen before. Masks lined each face in the room and chatter filled the air almost as much as the music did.

As suspected, Belmont clearly knows how to throw a proper party.. Audrielle thought, a smile decorating her lips. Regardless of what his other intentions might be, the young source blood already found that it was well worth the risk. Tonight would just be the very beginning of gaining her own freedom. In the next moment, she spotted the familiar figure of Rene climbing up the staircase to meet them. At her sides, she could practically feel the two old bloods grow tense, still uneasy about the situation Belmont had created for her. Audrielle ignored them though instead looked ahead to the older source blood with a friendly smile. Though she didn’t consider him a friend in the slightest, he had earned some favor from her just by being the one to open the door to freedom.

While he addressed her caretakers, someone else drew Audrielle’s gaze away from the host in front of her. Further into the crowd, she felt a pair of eyes on her and looked out to see some man—it was impossible to say who both due to her lacking knowledge of vampires as well as the mask he wore—looking their way. She couldn’t make out much due to the distance but she couldn’t help be curious as to who he was. Unfortunately, she was only able to catch a quick glimpse of him before Rene addressed her. Pulling her gaze from him, her hazel eyes settled on the source blood in front of her. “Thank you, Belmont. Your party is as extravagant as I expected.” she said with an amused smirk. As he asked about a dance, she dipped her head. “Of course.”

As Belmont offered her his arm, Audrielle paused. Part of her had been hoping to do her scouting alone that evening but she supposed that she had just gotten her hopes a little to high. If it wasn’t Belmont escorting her, Louis or Aida would have quickly swooped in instead. With Belmont being the lesser of three evils in this predicament, Audrielle graciously accepted his arm. “That sounds perfect.” she said with a smile. “I’m eager to get this underway.”

“Audrielle… would you like one of us to accompany you as well?” Aida asked tentatively. Her dark gaze flickered towards the host. She didn’t trust Rene and disliked the idea of him being alone with the young source blood. Especially when he was the one introducing her to candidates—likely only ones he had picked out too.

“No, no.” Audrielle answered quickly, not wanting either of her caretakers to be swarming over her. At least with Rene she didn’t have to worry about the older source blood treating her as if she was five years old instead of fifty or cutting in to choose her options rather than letting her choose her own. “You two just enjoy the party and I’ll catch up with you after I’ve met a few of my options.” She flashed Louis and Aida a smile before turning back to Belmont with a hint of excitement glimmering in her hazel gaze. “Alright Belmont, lead the way.”

Louis crossed his arms over his chest and watched the two source bloods with narrowed eyes. Damn you Rene.. he thought scathingly. The older source blood had backed them into a corner with the help of a very stubborn and naive Audrielle. Louis didn’t trust that Belmont just simply wanted to ‘help’ the younger source blood by getting her a guardian. No, he had to be playing at an angle, he always was. Louis just couldn’t figure out what it was, yet. Regardless, he had no intention of standing idly by. “I’m going to follow them. There’s no way in hell I’m letting her out of my sight with that bastard.” he growled under his breath to Aida.

The other old blood nodded her head in agreement and swept her gaze over the crowd. “Good, you do that. I’m going to see if anyone we’d approve of is here tonight.” she muttered thoughtfully. “If by some miracle they are, then I can figure out a way to send them towards Audrielle.”

“We’ll catch up later then.” Louis nodded before moving to make his descent down the staircase. He doubted Rene would invite anyone they’d want as Audrielle’s guardian if he had a plan of his own but it wouldn’t hurt for Aida to double check. In the meantime, Louis intended to follow the two at a distance, trying not to come across as obvious as he weaved his way into the crowd, picking up a goblet of blood for himself on the way.

Known for being on time for any event, Simon Heartwell was fashionably late this evening. Not because he was trying to make some grand entrance. No, that was more his host style. He was taking a more subtle defense towards Rene antics this evening. “You ready mon chér?” The source blood; extended his arm. Slim refined hands glided over Simons arm as the supple curves of his companion pressed against him. “Of course darling.” The flirtatious alluring tone of the Lady Sophia Cain answered in renturned. Simon smirked. Generally the source blood did not entertain those beneath his station. Let alone showcase such a person as one of his evening companions. However Sophia Cain was very different. Head of the House of Cain, a minor house within Path bloodline. Sophia was one of the few old bloods who was a major player in the political spectrum of the covens. She of course was not a member of the council but her connections and business asset made her a formidable ally and foe.

Simon was hoping tonight those benefits would work in his favor. “You know the plan Sophia.” The vampiress nodded. She did indeed. Sophia Cain was well aware of what the older source blood was asking her to do tonight. The plan was simple, even if she did not want to participate. Unfortunately the old blood did not have a choice. When a source blood made a command the lesser bloods followed them. It was a lesson despite all Sophia’s connections she remembered well. “I remember Simon darling.” She smiled confidently. Sophia though was worried. What Simon was asking her to do was blatant disrespect to not only Fire God but to the Chaotic bloodline as well. It was all well and good for Simon to do this. He would get out this barely scathed but Sophia knew she would be facing some sort of repercussion from all this.

It was frustrating and annoying living in a society where the few made all the rules and the rest just lived in hoping to survive. Yet what choice did any of them have? If a source blood truly died so would the bloodline and all descendants. It was a trapped existants. One where Sophia almost wished she was Kolas to escape such fate. Despite their less breed in vampirism and the drawbacks of their genetic flaws, Sophia envied them in some ways. They were free and for all her power within the covens Sophia was still beholden to the council. When all this was over she would of course levy some concession from Simon to protect her house. Yet it irritated her that she would even have to take such an action to avoid punishment.

The Kolas hadn’t any such hierarchy. They hadn’t a king let alone a source-blood to command them. He was dead and yet somehow they had survived. Sophia wished she knew how. “No need to worry.” She pressed her body against the older vampire. “Your wish is my command.” Simon had to admit he liked those words from her. Even though he was certain Sophia didn’t mean any of it. Sophia could not be trusted. She was a tricky one but she would serve well for his means tonight. Simon adjusted his mask and began descending down the steps of the entrance. He was determined to find Belmont and then Lady Eve. However it was Aida he came across first. It wasn’t hard to recognize the old blood. Aida was beautiful yet there were times she held herself far too seriously.

She stood amongst a group of guest conversing but she did not seem relaxed. “Aida?” Simon questioned the vampiress, stepping into the mix of the crowd she was among. Audrielle did not seem to be a part of the group. Simon looked at her curiously. “Excuse my manners Aida but I am surprised to see you not chaperoning Audrielle.” He commented. The source blood looked around seeing if he could spot Louis or Audrielle. He didn’t but that wasn’t surprising considering the number of guests. Simon gave up protocol for a second and excused himself away from Sophia. He motioned to Aida asking her to join him away from prying ears. “Where is Louis and Audrielle?” He questioned. Simon really hoped her answer involved music and the dance floor.

The last thing they needed was Audrielle being alone with Rene. Simon had a feeling that was exactly what the younger source blood wanted. The question was why? Did Rene have the intention of telling her the truth? He knew that was forbidden. It was impossible. Audrielle probably would not believe him and it wasn’t like Rene could prove it. Most of the records from back then were sealed and hidden with the archivers. Not even the council knew the location. There was Nicholas of course but the “Blade” was in exile and Simon's contacts still assured him he remained that way. So he wasn’t a threat. Let alone an issue. Yet when did the rules ever stop Rene. He looked to Aida with a serious expression. “We need to put an end to this nonsense.” He informed the vampiress. “I think I have a suspicion of what Rene is planning here tonight.”

While Simon, Aida and Louis worked to thwart Rene. The Fire God source blood was completely composed. He anticipated such complications from the very beginning. Hell Rene didn’t expect anything less. When the ship was about to sink of course the crew would work diligently to salvage it. Though Audrielle was far from a sinking ship. She was more like a baby bird waiting to rise into the phoenix she truly was. She only needed a nudge in the right direction. A few bread crumbs to sow the seeds of curiosity. Rene looked to Audrielle as he escorted her through the crowd. He had intended to introduce her to a few potential candidates while they mingled amongst the guests.

However with Louis tailing them Rene had to alter his plans a bit. Walking over to the edge of the dance floor of the ballroom, Rene turned to the young vampiress with a gentle smile. “May I have this dance Audrielle?” The dance floor. It was the perfect location for a conversation without a certain meddling caretaker eavesdropping. Well he could but Rene doubted Louis would draw attention to himself and make a scene. In fact Rene dared him to do so. Interruptions would not deter his goal. Audrielle’s path was set and there was nothing Simon, Louis or even Aida could do to stop it.

With Simon

The old blood’s gaze tracked Louis, Audrielle and Rene until the trio eventually disappeared from her line of sight. Aida remained tense despite now being alone. Rene was clearly planning something. Exactly what though was impossible for her to figure out at the moment but she was certain it wasn’t something she’d approve of. Audrielle was still at such a weak state, no memories and no powers that a normal source blood should have. Having been by Audrielle’s side for centuries and the one to raise her when she was reborn, it was needless to say how deeply Aida cared for the source blood. If there was anything that would risk Audrielle’s safety, Aida promised herself that she’d find a way to protect the sourceblood from it.

With Louis on Rene and Audrielle’s trail, Aida set off to do some work of her own. Though it was a masquerade, she found that she was still able to recognize a decent amount of the vampires around her, based both on their voices and figures. Unfortunately, she wasn’t particularly fond of most them. They were the types that hung were known for willingly hanging around Belmont, which was to be expected since he was the host. Still, Aida held onto hope that there was at least a few people of worth amongst the guest there that night. Traveling further into the crowd alone, she eventually found what she considered to be a decent group of vampires that were conversing. The group consisted of a few lesser blackbloods. Most were old enough or near old enough to be considered old bloods themselves. Despite not holding a high power, Aida found them respectable enough.

Hoping one of them might be fit enough for the task of intervening with Belmont’s plans or to hear any potential gossip about his plans, Aida smoothly joined the group of vampires. Elegant and known for her closeness to the council, her presence appeared to be well received as she was easily welcomed amongst the group and quickly joined in the conversation. The conversation was rather lacking though and before Aida could truly see if it would lead anywhere, a newcomer stepped into the mix and addressed her. Aida blinked and turned her head to look over at the vampire, quickly recognizing him to be Simon. She also noticed that he was accompanied by another vampiress, one she knew to be the head of the Cain house. Aida paid her little attention though as Simon addressed the matter of her not chaperoning Audrielle. The words made her tense slightly, unsure how Simon might react to the fact that neither her nor Louis had been able to stop Rene from escorting Audrielle. The old blood opened her mouth to reply when Simon excused himself from Sophia to motion for Aida to step away with him. Following his lead, she excused herself from the group and moved away from them to join Simon separately.

“Belmont’s escorting Audrielle right now.. I believe they went towards the dance floor. Audrielle insisted that we not accompany her.” Aida explained with a heavy exhale. “Right now, Louis is tailing them to keep an eye on Rene and intervene if need be. I was hoping I might find someone here that could qualify as Audrielle’s guardian to hopefully pull her away from whatever he has planned.” Aida knew they likely weren’t in the best situation, since Audrielle seemed to be happily following Belmont’s lead making it difficult for anyone else to steer her away. The old blood just hoped that Simon had come there with a plan that would get them back on the offensive rather than continuing to play defense to everything Belmont threw at them.

As he emphasized needing to put an end to the nonsense, Aida gave a stern nod of agreement before her visage took on a expression of interest as Simon speculated knowing what the other sourceblood was planning. “What do you think he’s planning?” she asked with a raised eyebrow under the mask that she wore. Standing a little straight and looking away from Simon’s face to glance in the direction of the dance floor, her gaze narrowed slightly as she pondered what angle Rene might be playing at. Regardless of what it was, it couldn’t be good. “And what should I do to help stop it?”

With Rene

Audrielle’s gaze continued to sweep over her surroundings with excitement as she let Rene guide her. The party was lively and the thought of gaining even a spec of freedom thrilling. There may have been reasons to not trust the sourceblood that was currently escorting her but they currently weren’t a point of focus for her. As Rene lead them closer to the dance floor, Audrielle felt a bit confused. She had thought that Belmont intended to take her to meet some of the candidates first rather than go straight for a dance. However, as he turned to ask her for a dance, she decided not to over think it.

“Of course, though I must warn you I haven’t completely mastered the movements yet.” she told him with an amused smirk before stepping with him out onto the dance floor. Aida had gone over the steps with her in the past. It had been a test of muscle memory that had turned into genuine lessons since Audrielle had taken an interest in learning. Once she got the basics of the movements down, Aida had insisted on them moving on to more productive things since clearly it hadn’t stirred any memories. She’d just have to take a bit more precaution with her movements. After all, the last thing the young source blood wanted to irritate Belmont because she accidentally stepped on his foot one too many times.

Louis trailed along the edge of the dance floor, clenching his jaw in frustration as Rene and Audrielle stepped out to dance. He folded his arms over his chest and narrowed his eyes as he watched the pair. For a moment, the old blood debated finding a dance partner of his own for the sake of getting closer but decided against it. Feeling certain that if he took his eyes off Belmont for a second that he would find some way to weasel away with Audrielle, Louis decided to remain at the edge of the dance floor, tracking Rene and Audrielle’s every step so that the two always remained in his line of sight.
