I strongly disagree that it was venting nor that it violated the OP guidelines, unless me addressing Hank violated the "only address me" part.

It did. If you want I'll PM you the text and you can have at it with Hank where you two want. But that's done here.

I wasn't trying to have at it with Hank, I was just responding to his comments too as he is also a co-admin. I've got nothing against him personally. I suppose I can just rewrite that post to remove references to what he said if you want because I feel like I made good points without being particularly dick-ish or anything like that.

I mean, it was a response to a post not by me. How does simply removing Hank's name change that?

But sure I'll give some kind of response to it, but if you want to continue it after that find me on Discord or in PMs.

Well, since this is an "ask" thread... would you mind unbanning me from the Discord? I'd gladly move the conversation there.

We don't agree they're terrible. They can be improved upon and I can see why you'd say that but agree to disagree.

You're kidding? There have been problems and drama since the site began. Again I have to disagree. That is when your personal stake started but the site has always had a very vocal minority accounting for most the mod actions. Agree to disagree again.

I know that fact triggers some people (we're people with lives and loved ones and we are not always on duty) but it's a fact not a shield. Nor are we robots. "The job properly" is subjective. I honestly got more support than complaints these last two weeks. You probably disagree, so, agree to disagree.

The rules we'll look at. We will have that conversation. But people do waste our time by litigating even minor issues. It's a real thing and a massive energy/time drain. But yes we will genuinely have that conversation; most likely after we name the new site mod.

That entire last paragraph: agree to disagree, again.

If you want to try to find more common ground and see what can be done going forward... I'm around. I've made that offer before and it's never been taken up. But it's there.

Hey, @Ruby, I know you get a lot of public heat and stuff, and that could scare off a lot of people from wanting to be mods themselves. It kinda lead me to wonder: what's your favorite thing about being a mod? (I know the rules say to address only you, but I'd be interested to hear responses from any mod that wants to share, honestly.)

They're free to share or post here. I just don't want escalations, hence me cutting off j8cob yesterday. (Although he and I continued in DMs for an hour and a half or so yesterday. Glad he continued that.)

For me? Helping a member, long time members I don't know, new members. I love getting to help them. I was that person once. Approaching site staff can be scary and it's great to be able to interact and help out people I'd never get a chance to meet otherwise.

But also actually moving past criticism with members and working those out together on some level. That's just as nice. Lots of miscommunication because of the way something is worded, "tones." Like we posted to staff a reminder to issue those warnings, provide those ban lengths immediately if possible, log everything. Chaos plus bad habits we fall into creates some really bad perceptions. So it's nice to talk things out with those members and come to some kind of understanding.

You mentioned how sometimes you just want to be able to RP again - if you had to do it over, would you make the same choice to jump on staff or was Guild life more enjoyable as a member without obligations, expectations and the spotlight?

Just kidding, my favorite thing is being able to have a voice to implement positive changes on the Guild. This website has given me a lot, so I enjoy being able to give some amount back.

I did quit site staff once, tbf.

Um. I don't know. I know the criticisms about me as a site staffer but I do try. Really hard. Probably too hard. But I love that anyone can talk to me. I love that I can give people second chances. I love that people will give me second chances.

So in total...I have no idea. lol Probably.

I do miss RPing. A lot. New Mods like Legend allow me to step back and just be around for escalated issues. After the new Mod that we get hopefully that will help more. My RP partners are insanely patient. And shutout to BlueSky44 for letting me hang in their OOC until life made it impossible for me to join.

Also dice in games terrifies me. Go figure.

I've been on this site for 12 years. Being part of the staff was the biggest way I could contribute that I could think of. At some point you want to give something back, you know? In this case it's time and patience -- though I'm not nearly as active now as I once was, and mostly serve in a consulting position at the moment.

I still RP as much as I can. I'd probably be a more involved staff member if I wasn't writing so much, but I like to stay in touch with the reason this whole place even exists.

I might as well hop in since things have begun to calm down.

What is, in your opinion, something that you are proud to have achieved since becoming a moderator on here? Is there any specific personal goal(s) that you're working towards yourself as a Roleplayer or otherwise (aside from dealing with the public heat)? Directed towards Ruby per rules, but I am interested in hearing what other Staff might have to say about it as well.

Took me a long time to get that PW up and ready. It failed but I absolutely tried.

The Discord server.

Moat of all outside of helping people and working out issues with members, which I already gave as answers, opening up modship to anyone who had interest. Making it more inclusive. That I'm super proud of. I think over time that will have a big impact.

I think so too (in regards to the moderation process). Especially since there seems to be a push towards transparency and letting members feel more involved in the process. It definitely seems like a push in the right direction and I'm looking forward to see what'll happen from here.

Same thing for any PW that happen going forward. Roleplay tends to be trial and error, after all. Also, thank you for entertaining my questions.

Creating more villainous -- or, at the least, morally ambiguous -- characters that are primarily motivated by fear. Fear of failure, fear of defeat, fear of shame, fear of weakness, fear of death, fear of injury, disease or decay, of the world's end, of damnation... the list goes on. Malevolent characters driven and corrupted by fear are more relatable, I think, than any other kind. It's an avenue I want to further explore that I believe will make me a better writer.
