Off the Map

There once was a ship that put to sea...

Hello deckhands and daring-doers! Welcome to the interest check for Off the Map, a high-casual RP about adventure on the high seas. Set in a low-fantasy fictional world (the Pirates of the Caribbean films are a good example for the level of magic / time period), the RP will concern the grand voyage of The Adelaide, a merchant vessel making her maiden voyage under a new captain. What is meant to be a simple trading run to a far-off colony will instead go terribly off course, as the crew finds themselves embroiled in conflicts both mundane and supernatural, blown off course into strange seas and caught in the middle of a war for the new world...

Players will play as the crew of the Adelaide, struggling to survive as they plunge through untold dangers in what will surely be the voyage of their lives. Various officer positions on the ship will be available, but don't be afraid to play as a humble deckhand - everyone will get as much to do as everyone else.

So, who's ready to go sailing?

I'm interested. Is it going to be a bit like Horatio Hornblower?

Nice to see all the interest!

@Starboard Watch Hornblower is a pretty good comparison, mixed with a little Pirates of the Caribbean and Rime of the Ancient Mariner for good measure.

The Wellerman, The Longest Johns

There once was a ship that put to sea
The name of the ship was the Billy of Tea
The winds blew hard, her bow dipped down
O blow, my bully boys, blow

Soon may the Wellerman come
To bring us sugar and tea and rum
One day, when the tonguin' is done
We'll take our leave and go

She had not been two weeks from shore
When down on her a right whale bore
The captain called all hands and swore
He'd take that whale in tow

Soon may the Wellerman come
To bring us sugar and tea and rum
One day, when the tonguin' is done
We'll take our leave and go

Before the boat had hit the water
The whale's tail came up and caught her
All hands to the side, harpooned and fought her
When she dived down below

Soon may the Wellerman come
To bring us sugar and tea and rum
One day, when the tonguin' is done
We'll take our leave and go

No line was cut, no whale was freed;
The Captain's mind was not of greed
But he belonged to the whaleman's creed;
She took the ship in tow

Soon may the Wellerman come
To bring us sugar and tea and rum
One day, when the tonguin' is done
We'll take our leave and go

For forty days, or even more
The line went slack, then tight once more
All boats were lost (there were only four)
But still that whale did go

Soon may the Wellerman come
To bring us sugar and tea and rum
One day, when the tonguin' is done
We'll take our leave and go

As far as I've heard, the fight's still on;
The line's not cut and the whale's not gone
The Wellerman makes his regular call
To encourage the Captain, crew, and all

Soon may the Wellerman come
To bring us sugar and tea and rum
One day, when the tonguin' is done
We'll take our leave and go

Soon may the Wellerman come
To bring us sugar and tea and rum
One day, when the tonguin' is done
We'll take our leave and go

Your little blurb in the Opening Post reminded me of this. Thought I'd share.
