Waking up was never an easy thing to do for Nathan but in that moment it felt particularly difficult. While he tried to open his eyes, his other senses gave away that something was different today. He heard a breeze, which was unusual for the time of the year and the part of the city. There was also a soft sound slowly growing louder, almost as if some cat or bird had somehow gotten inside.

When he finally managed to open his eyes completely, he noticed two small creatures staring right at him. He was startled for sure and took a defensive stance while glaring back at them. "What the..?" he whispered while trying not to make any sudden movements. What could they possibly be? Nathan had a feeling he had seen them in his dreams when he was younger. Maybe he was still dreaming?

Whatever they were, they weren't the only strange thing going on. It was only now that Nathan realized he had woken up in the oddest location. "Where.. am I?.." he asked himself out loud. The creatures hopped once and turned around as if they tried to tell him something. Was he supposed to follow them? What other choice did he have? The leafy one seemed to take the most initiative in making Nathan follow them.

While following them, he noticed they led him to a small wooden table with some items. There was a book and a watch-like device. Nathan looked at the device first but wasn't sure what to make out of it. Realizing the book might be some sort of manual, he started to read. There was indeed some information about the device, apparently called 'Digivice'. As he continued to turn the pages, he noticed there was a list of creatures very much like the ones that had lured him there. The pictures in the list proved him right. "So you are Leafmon?" The leafy thing seemed cheerful that Nathan discovered its identity.

Unsure what do to next and if any of this was even real, Nathan turned the pages of the book back to the one about the Digivise. "Use the Digivise to Digivolve your partners to their next stage." Nathan frowned as it didn't make any sense to him. "Digivolve? What's that? And it doesn't even say how to do it."

It was another day for Seth. But today was a good day, for he had no classes, nor did he have work. He'd actually be able to have fun today!

Seth let out a sharp inhale as he sat up and opened his eyes. This... wasn't his room, it was some sort of beach by a forest. The hell? Did he get kidnapped and left for dead? Seth scrambled to his feet, taking in his surroundings. The only way forward seemed to be into the forest, though there was beach behind him. He turned around, only to feel his foot tap something. He looked down to see three tiny, round creatures at his feet.

Seth let out a surprised "Ah!" as the creatures bounced around, looking at Seth endearingly. Was this one of those lucid dreams he'd heard about? The creatures made little in the way of noise, but bounced up and down happily. They seemed to be staring off in the direction of the woods behind him occasionally. Seth looked behind him. "What is it? Is there something in the woods? What are you trying to tell me?" This was one freaky encounter. Maybe these creatures are some weird science experiment, and he's being studied to see how they interact with humans? Before he knew it, the three creatures bounced off towards the treeline. Seth, having nothing better to do, followed suit.

The forest seemed kind of eerie, all things considered, but it wasn't all bad, at least he still had his clothes on. As Seth walked behind the bouncing creatures, he took the time to look them over a little more. The one leading the other two was blue in color, and looked like a water drop... if you squinted. It also had this stem-like antenna coming out of the top of its head. Freaky. The other two were just as strange, however. One was a blue ball with a floppy antenna at the top, much like the one leading them. The last one was a bright white, and had these little golden wings that didn't seem to do much. The other weird part was that they all had faces. What were these things even supposed to be? Hopefully this was all just a big prank. Ashton Kutcher would jump out of the bushes and point out all the hidden cameras.

At last, they came to a clearing in the forest. Seth looked forward, and his eyes fell on a sturdy looking wooden table. Not only that, but there was another human! At least he wasn't alone. As Seth stepped forward, he noticed more movement. Three little creatures bounced around this new person. Looks like he was in the same situation as Seth. Seth scooped up his little weird animal friends and held them in his arms as he approached the table. They were just as light as he expected, and it felt like they had skin rather than hair or scales. This was weird.

The guy at the table had blue hair, and sported a hoodie. He seemed to have some sort of book in his hand and was muttering to himself. Seth clutched his cross necklace as he spoke, shifting his small companions around somewhat."Uh, hi there. Name's Seth. You know what's going on here? I seem to be a little lost. And uh..." he looked down at the strange creatures he held. "You know what these things are? It looks like you have a couple of them, too."

Cadence sat up, stretched her arms out, and yawned. Today was going to be another great day. Except, when she finally opened her eyes and looked around, she noticed that something wasn't right. For one, she wasn't in her room. She wasn't even inside a building. She sat up, and dusted herself off. She also wasn't in her pajamas anymore, but in favorite purple outfit. Somehow, she wound up on a beach by forest. Was this a dream? It certainly didn't feel like one.

Cadence took a few steps forward, when suddenly she saw three small creatures at her feet. One was a small white ball with tiny golden angel wings, one was a black ball with green eyes and two leaves at the top of it's head, and the last creature could only be described as a blue bob. They were bouncing up and down excitedly. "Ohmygosh! You are absolutely adorable!" Cadence cooed. The three creatures turned around, and bounced into the forest. They made gurgling baby noises as they did. It seemed like they wanted her to follow them.

The forest was pretty plain as far as forests went. There were trees everywhere, but not a hint at any other living thing besides herself, and the three small creatures she was following. The silence made the whole situation eerie. Where were these creatures taking her anyway?

Finally, they came to a clearing in the forest. There, Cadence found a wooden table, as well as two boys. They both had their own groups of creatures. One of the boys had his own white angel thing, and the other boy had blue hair, and a book in his hand. Maybe one of them knew what was going on here? It couldn't hurt to ask.

Cadence scooped up the three little creatures into her arms. All three of them appeared excited at the prospect of being carried, and squealed excitedly. Then she approached the two boys. "Buongiorno!" Cadence greeted with a big smile on her face. "Aren't these the cutest things you've ever seen?!"She nuzzled her head on the small creatures in her arms, then quickly stopped and composed herself. "Ahem, yes. Anyway, would either of you gentlemen happen to know what's going on here? I'm Cadence by the way, and I somehow wound up here with these cuties at my feet. As if by magic."

Nathan felt some sort of relief when two more people seemed to be clueless on what those little creatures were. If this was a dream, wouldn't the other people know and explain everything to him? Something told him he was very much awake. The blond boy-next-door type and the girl in purple both had a winged creature among their new friends. There were also some strange looking ones like a waterdrop and a thing with a leaf on top.

"Uh, hi there. Name's Seth.
"I'm Cadence by the way."

Nathan reached out his hand to shake theirs. "Nathan."

"You know what's going on here? I seem to be a little lost. And uh... You know what these things are? It looks like you have a couple of them, too."
"I somehow wound up here with these cuties at my feet. As if by magic."

So none of them knew how they had gotten their or where they were? Surely, it couldn't be some f'up experiment with them as lab rats. Then suddenly Nathan remembered something.

"Well, the only information I can share is what I've read in this book right here. It says those devices over there are called Digivices and we're supposed to somehow use them to Digivolve these little creatures. No idea how to do that, though."

Nathan aimed his Digivice on the three creatures that have been following him, as if it would somehow automatically do what it's supposed to. After a few attempts, he sighed and stopped trying. "Hmm.. How about.. trying to use it on them one by one.."

He aimed it at the left creature first. "Come ON. Do whatever this thing is here for. Digi..something.." He looked at the word in the book again. "Digivolve!"

A beam of light came from the Digivise and hit the creature, changing the appearance of the creature drastically. It now looked like a cat with a helmet. "Finally, you figured it out!" the creature said. It could talk! This definitely took Nathan by surprise and he gasped while staring at the thing.



"Oh, don't be frightened. My name is Kapurimon. Now I can explain everything to you. All of these creatures you see are at their lowest level and should be Digivolved so they become more like me."

Kapurimon looked at Seth and Cadence. "Go ahead, your partners are waiting for you do the same."

Nathan stared at the leafy creature and repeated the Digivolve process. It turned into this larva-looking creature. "I am Minomon." it said.



Nathan looked at his companions and was glad he could at least communicate with them now. He then looked at the Digivolved version of the creatures that Seth and Cadence brought.

Lucas ran for the bus, frantically waving his arms about in the air.

“Hey, wait up.... I’m right here....” he shouted, the driver clearly not hearing him.

As the bus drove off into the night, Lucas slumped onto a seat in the bus shelter. It looked like that was the last one. After a long night doing a gig, this is the last thing he wanted.

He slumped off his bag pack which had his music equipment in and lay back against the seat, slowly starting to drift off.

*Zzzz*

Lucas was slowly awoken by strong rays of sunlight beating onto his face. He opened his eyes quickly. Had he slept in the bus shelter the whole night?! He quickly turned to examine his surroundings.

To his surprise there was no bus shelter, no local shops, nothing. Nothing that he knew or could associate himself too. Instead he saw beautiful landscapes which almost seemed surreal.

“Where the hell am I?.....” he asked himself

All of a sudden he saw three small almost blob like creatures seemingly messing around by his bag pack on the floor. All three seemed to be different in appearance, one was more of a green slime, one a green blob with a leaf above his head and a the last one was baby blue with a huge grin on his face.

“Am I tripping? Did someone spike my drink last night?” Lucas was more confused than he ever had been.

Upon looking down again he had noticed that the creatures were gone, as was his bag. He stood up and saw them jumping off in the distance with his bag as they all struggled to push it. He got up and followed, the little blobs, not like they were gonna outrun him anyway.

After what seemed like a few hours he could see what looked like more people up ahead. As they approached he nervously waved.

“Erm, did you guys miss the last night bus too or am I really losing my mind here?” He said to which the baby blue blob flinged a device at his head.

“OW! First you steal my bag now this?” Lucas exclaimed.

As Lucas inspected the small square device he started pushing every button.
“How do you turn it on?” He asked before pressing something that beeped.

Out of nowhere the three strange blobs flashed with light before transforming into more developed creatures. Lucas was in awe.

“Finally the slow one has worked it out. Now we can speak to you. I am DemiVeemon. This is Tanemon and this is...” DemiVeemon was cut off by the last creature.

“...and I am Minomon, glad to be at your service!” The last cried happily.

Lucas looked around at everyone else who seemed to be coping better than he was with the situation.

“You guys can’t be ok with this right? I mean what is this place?” Lucas asked.

The two boys introduced themselves. They too were just as lost as Cadence was. Nathan then explained that they were supposed to use those weird little devices on the table to Digivolve these little creatures. Digivolve? What on Earth did that even mean?

After fumbling around for a bit, Nathan pointed his device at each of creatures one at a time, and they started to change form. Two of the three of them were still cute. That third one was a little unsettling with its one eye and creepy spider legs. What was more surprising was that these things were now able to talk!

After that, another boy came running in with his own little creatures, and evolved them on the spot. He seemed to be more nervous about this than the others were. Cadence merely shrugged her shoulders. “Non lo so. I mean, I’d like to be home right now too, but freaking out about it isn’t going to help us right now. Besides, these little guys might have answers.”

Now it was Cadence’s turn to Digivolve her new companions. She set them down on the ground in front of her, and grabbed one of the devices on the table. Then she pointed at each of them one at a time. “Digivolve!”

One by one they glowed and changed form. First was the blue angel. It became a slightly bigger white angel. It stood on two legs.



“Oh my gosh hi!” The creature waved excitedly. “I’m Kyupimon! It’s sooooo nice to meet you!”

The blob with the leaves on it’s head. It became a small green ball with a big smile on its face. It had a leaf for a tail, and had spikes all over it’s body.



“I’m Budmon. I’m the best Digimon you’ll ever meet!”

Lastly the blue blob became a pink ball with stubby little legs, and antennas.



This Digimon looked a little nervous. “Um... hi...”

Budmon rolled her eyes. “He’s Tokomon. He’s weird.”

“Leave him alone, Budmon.” Kyupimon interjected. “He’s just shy!”

Cadence didn’t pay attention to anything these things said. Her eyes were wide, and lit up with glee. “Oh my gosh, you are so CUTE!” She cooed.

"A digivice huh? Can't say I've ever heard of one of those. Guess I oughta give this a shot then." Seth approached the wooden table and picked up one of the strange devices, and set down the three creatures he was carrying on it."Now... how does this work? Do I just, like..." Seth pointed the digivice at the one with the tiny golden wings and pressed the button.

There was a ray of light that streaked out towards it, and in an instant, the little white blob had changed.


"Oh, that's so much better! Thanks man! I'm Kyupimon!" Seth took a step back in surprise. "Oh snap. Well... as if this couldn't get any weirder. Though, I guess now that you can talk, this'll probably clear up a number of things. Let's move on to the other two, then." Seth turned towards the blue blob with the floppy antenna on its head. He aimed it at the blob and pressed the button once more. Another streak of light appeared, striking the creature. In an instant, it's form changed.


The previous blob now had arms and legs, and a pair of what looked like horns. It spoke in a squeaky voice. "Yay, thanks! I'm Demiveemon!" It seemed rather excitable.

"Alright. Looking good so far. Now you." Seth pointed with a finger at the water droplet shaped creature. "Here goes." Seth pressed the button a third time, and the ray of light ensued. As it struck the water droplet shaped creature, not much changed. It seemed a little bigger now, and its eyes seemed more focused now.


"Did... did it not work? Do I need to recharge this thing?" Seth looked at the screen of the digivice, looking for some sort of "low battery" symbol, when a quiet, feminine voice spoke up. "No, no, it worked. I'm Moonmon. Thanks for the boost. I might not have arms or legs yet, but I promise I'll do my best." Seth looked at his three evolved companions.

"Wait. You all said 'mon' at the end of your names. Is this one of those things where your name is your species? I've played those games before, and I always gave them a nickname. So let's give you guys some, too." Seth rubbed his chin and tapped his foot for a moment before pointing at the one that called itself Demiveemon. "You can be... Superfly. It might now make sense now, but if you have more of these evolution things, then it'll make more sense later." Next, he pointed to Moonmon. "For you, I'm feeling... Killer Queen. Don't know why, but I do." Lastly, he looked towards the angel-like digimon, Kyupimon. "And you'll be Holy Diver. I can't think of many other holy or light based songs or bands, so that'll have to do."

It was at this time Seth noticed a fourth person had arrived. He paid him little mind, however. The girl seemed to he squealing excitement over her new friends. She also had a Kyupimon. Guess it's good he gave them nicknames to tell them apart. He looked back towards Nathan, and saw that his companions had evolved, too. Seth turned to the others. "So this is all well and good, but, uh... now what? We should probably find a way out of here. Maybe find a road or something to follow that'll lead us towards some sort of civilization."

As a fourth person entered the scene with just the same amount of confusion and also accompanied by the little creatures, it started to look as if they had been brought there, wherever that was, for a reason. He addressed his Kapurimon directly. "You there. Now that you can talk, can you tell us where we are and how we got here?"
Kapurimon looked at Minomon as if they were two scientists who had to explain something to a child. "Why, this is the Digiworld of course. I can't really explain how you got here but for quite some time now, we have been expecting you. You see, we have this prophecy of a select group of heroes that will save the Digiworld from destruction. I am positive that those heroes are you guys."
Nathan rolled his eyes. His dreams sure boosted his ego. "I think you'll end up quite disappointed then."
Minomon interrupted Kapurimon. "You may not realize it yet, but together we will do great things. But... I won't be any good to you in this form."
Nathan just listened to the speech before commenting.

Minomon continued: "All of us can now talk but we're not very good at fighting yet and unfortunately, there will be battles ahead. We can Digivolve even further and becomes rookies, where we can actually fight."
Nathan looked at the Digivice. Surely it wouldn't be that simple.

"Hold your horses, Nathan. The first Digivolution may have been triggered by the Digivice, but to reach the rookie level, each of us needs to develop some sort of connection with their human."

Nathan looked at the Digivolved versions of the Digimon the other people brought along. Lucas and Seth both gained a DemiVeemon. Cadence and Seth both got a Kyupimon. Seth's last Digimon was a Moonmon. Cadence's team was completed with a Budmon and a Tokomon, while Lucas' team contained a Minomon and Tanemon.

The most pressing matter was addressed by Seth. "So this is all well and good, but, uh... now what? We should probably find a way out of here. Maybe find a road or something to follow that'll lead us towards some sort of civilization."
Nathan knew Seth was right, they should figure out what to do next. "Well, Digimon, lead the way then."
It was Minomon who came with a suggestion. "If we all need to form a connection to get us to the rookie level, the best place to start would be the barrows just north-west of here. Unless Vademon's minions have taken that place too."
Nathan frowned at Minomon. "Vademon?"
Minomon sighed and looked at Kapurimon. "Do you want to tell them?"

Kapurimon cleared its throat and tried to enlighten the group.
"Our world is facing a great threat called Lilithmon. Each of her four Hell Generals has been assigned a part of the Digiworld to dominate. Where we are now, Vademon is in control. His gun will give you a lot more than just a flesh wound. If you want to be able to defeat him, you need to get us even further than the rookie level, but let's take it one step at a time."

Nathan hesitated. This was a lot to take in and he barely knew this people and their Digimon. After sighing deeply, he decided the only way was up. "Well then, let's get started at those barrows then."

Peyton had hardly realized they had fallen asleep. A quick and brief shocking pain back sent her back to a reality to clear it up. As she felt a slight burning sting on her arm wrist, along with an odd goopy texture covering it. Needles to say, she juttedawake immediately, only to see three golden slimes with red eyes. One of them was even on her wrist while the others were surrounding her. She reacted on instinct and jumped up into a defensive pose with both her arms up. Which lead the slime on her wrist to fall to the ground.
“What the-. Not in bed. Not dreaming cause that hurt-…” She pieced together groggily.

“She’s awake! She’s awake.” One of the golden slimes simply stated.
“And hurry up, the others probably already got take down a rookie Digimon by now. We have to catch up.” Another proposed.
While the third, simply seemed to stare at her and huddled between the other two.

“Who are you, where am I, and what the heck did you do, do to me?” Peyton quickly asked in a barrage. She couldn’t help but stare at the watch that was now put on her wrist. In truth the darn thing looked like it was attached to her but that was likely her vision not fully processing things. It certainly looked like a watch, a very gothic and mechanical one at that. The screen of it placed on top of a sharp looking frame.

“No time to waste let’s get a move on! We can’t miss anything, especially not this soon.”One of the golden slimes began darting across the ground in some direction or another. Clearly more interested in a brawl which was relatable, sadly.

The first slime had a bit of a golden tint in its eyes looked between Peyton and its departing match. "I’m Zurumon, they’re Zurumon… and… that’s Zurumon. We’re sibling digimon. This is the digital world, and I helped get the digivice on you. We’re here as a team to save the digital world.” they stated, looking between all three of them.

“maybe they’re a differently evolved Zurumon..” The third slime muttered, before being immediately corrected by the golden-eyed slime. It was hard to even notice the third slime at all compared to the other two, kind of faded into the background.

“nope, don’t think that’s how it works.” The golden-eyed one looked between the phantasmal presenced zurumon and Peyton. “I… don’t think that’s how it works, may be wrong. Anyhow we need to go!” The golden-eyed one took off, and so did their quieter sibling.

Peyton, being in the middle of the woods and seeing random slime creatures didn’t feel particularly certain about things. Felt like she had a crazy head case, like from that book Malice in Neverland or whatever. She was definitely getting a F on that paper tomorrow. Not knowing where she was and seeing as the slimes apparently did, she’d take off following after them. Also a fight between monsters of some sort, in a digital world, like a video game but directly in front of you in 3D. Who could miss that?

“Can’t call you all Zurumon that’s going to confuse me all day.” Peyton called out in a run. “Um, the talkative one, calling you Golden-Eye, Quiet one… Phantom-Pain, think that’s a cool game name according to commercials.” She shouted to the golden slime up from “And think I’ll call you Smash-Brawler!” She was trying to find the settings on this darn watch, it looked to have a digital display so it must have some settings to be fiddled with!

The leading golden called back. “No way! I want something cooler, something that scares the mons I’m about to fight.” The trio of Zurumon & Peyton, were catching up to a group of other people.

“Fine how about bone-breaker?” Peyton called out to the leading slime.

“Sounds awesome!” Bone-breaker, the new named slime called out, still dashing along.

The small team stopped in front of the other humans and Digimon gathered. Seemed she wasn’t the only other human wandering around out here, which was relieving to a degree. She hardly noticed she was jogging in place and was revved up to see something exciting. Although, wanting to skip through the pleasantries at a faster pace, in a fear of being late.

“Hi. Peyton, Golden-Eyes, Phantom-Pain, and Bone-Breaker. Now which way is the fight?” She pointed to herself, and the team of Digimon with her individually as the names were passed.

Another person showed up, turning them into a small group by now. Nathan looked at his partners Kapurimon and Minomon. "So, why us? There are thousands of millions of people on earth and here we are with just a handful of young people. Is it just chance?" While Kapurimon decided to stay silent, Minomon gave the answer they were looking for. "Every generation there are a few who got what it takes to save our Digiworld from danger. We call them 'DigiDestined', but they have also gone by other names."

Nathan looked around at the others. He didn't see much that they all had in common, it was hard to tell what exactly made them be these chosen ones. As he observed them, he tried to analyse what their personalies could be like. The last one to join, Peyton, had an appearance that appealed to Nathan somehow. Not in a sexual way but something about it made him want to approach her. He couldn't quite put his finger on it.
The other girl of the group, Cadence, was definitely of Italian origin. Nathan could easily tell because one side of his family had Italian roots themselves. For some reason similar origins created some sort of liking towards the other person.
So the girls looked alright to Nathan. What about the boys then? Lucas came across particular cheerful but something felt off about it. Nathan had come across too many times where he had to fake happiness to not recognize a hidden pain underneath when he spotted it. He felt like something must be going on in Lucas' life that hurts him so much to force him to put on a charade.
The last one, Seth, had this boy-next-door vibe according to Nathan. As Nathan scanned him head to toe, he first didn't read much into it but when he spotted Seth's cross necklace, he cringed. A religious guy? Boy, would there be tension in this group if he ended up being vocal about it.f

As they approached the barrows, Nathan frowned at how minimalistic they looked. They looked like some sort of abandoned cult temple. Kapurimon hopped once. "Here we are, the Bleached Barrows. The perfect place for all of you humans to establish a connection with your partner Digimon in order for them to reach their Rookie level." Nathan took another analyzing look at his partners. "You mentioned earlier that you guys can grow even beyond the Rookie level. Do you keep changing or how does it work?" Minomon was the one to answer. "Our digivolution stages usually go from egg to Fresh to In-training to Rookie. The Rookie stage is how we spend most of our times while traveling with a human partner. In times of need we Digivolve even further to the ranks of Champion,

Bone-breaker, would start to charge in toward Bleached Barrows without missing a beat once Kapurimon explained were they were. After all, this was the place to find and fight other digimon to get stronger. It could also help to take down the bad guy of the area as well. Either way, they were already ecstatic to get into a rough and tumble situation to wrestle around. "See ya later guys, I'm going in!"

Golden-Eye, in a bit of panic would of course follow after Bone-breaker. It was also a new place to explore, so there could be some fun to be found. Although it was better to not let Bone-breaker get into trouble on their own in case something happened. They needed at least some kind of backup to get them out of trouble.

"You've got to be kidding me..." Peyton sighed. "Well a direct charge in it is!" Peyton figured it was better to charge after Bone-breaker. Since the little guy was already looking to pick a fight, it would be a terrible idea to leave them too it! She doubted that Golden-Eye was going to be much help either. If they trio were able to digivolve to rookie level at least it sounded like they would stand a chance in a fight. Well, maybe a fight with the three of them versus one but that was better odds than nothing. So a quick dive in, it is!

That did however leave Phantom-Pain with the main party of humans and other digimon. The little guy let out a quiet distressed whimper, and nothing more. Didn't seem like they trusted charging directly into this place. Although they looked at their siblings & Peyton with worry, and hesitance.

While two of Peyton's Zurumon charged into the Bleached Barrows, his third one stayed close. These things all seemed to have very different personalities. Nathan looked at his own creatures and wondered what it would take for them to reach their Rookie level. "Alright, tell me something about yourselves then." he asked his Kapurimon and his Minomon. Both of them looked at each other before replying.

As they continued deeper in the barrows, Minomon started talking first: "I suppose you could say I like to be on my own in general. Don't get me wrong, I am willing to form a bond with you as it will help reach my potential, but it's in my nature to be a bit of an introvert. Although you should know that the personalities of Digimon can change when they Digivolve. I could even turn into a hostile one." Nathan frowned at that remark. "In that case, maybe I shouldn't Digivolve you at all." Minomon didn't reply on that comment and just hopped further down the barrows.

Giving it some thought, Nathan moved on to his other partner. "What about you, Kapurimon?" Kapirumon didn't answer right away and seemed to be thinking about a proper answer. It was only after a bit that he figured out the right words to describe himself. "For me, logic is the most natural word that comes to mind.
