Friedrich, Duke von Nordmann

  • Line Regiment von Kerpin, Nr. 1 - 2960
  • Line Regiment von Schmidt, Nr. 2 - 2960
  • Line Regiment Göttisheim, Nr. 3 - 2960
  • Royal Grenadier Guards Regiment Schneider Nr. 16 - 2960

Did you just remove the Regimental Staff officers, runners, musicians, guidons and color bearers from each regiment's numbers? I see 40 per, that would account for them. They are on the battlefield, but engaged in other activities.

@Landain I just added up 1080, 1080, and 800 - the size of the three Abteilung's. I neglected to add the 40 staff officers at that time. I read the bio one day, and on another day I quickly added up the troop counts so I could post the first post lol.

I will edit in those 40 men each later, sorry for the confusion.

@JamesycoDuke Friedrich speaks Gauldic. "J'ai appris à parler votre langue quand j'étais petit," the Duke, who is the equivalent of a Brigadier in his nation would attempt to comfort the Gauldic Major. "Merci d'avoir apporté de l'artillerie à cette incursion." He thanked him for bringing artillery.

The English words between the French text is the translation. ;)

@andreyich @landain @jamesyco I wish I could give you guys a cool map, but alas, I am no map maker.

So you guys are camped on the western end, where the red star is. Francisco Marion is camped on the eastern end, where the blue star is. The red lines in the center are basically showing you that the entire Allied army could fit in the valley if each regiment lined up side by side. In other words, you won't have to worry about it being cramped - there's enough to move around. The yellow line is showing you the max range of the cannon. Basically if you have it on the top of the ridge it can shoot the other ridge.

The only difference from this area and Waterloo is that Hougoumont and La Haye Sainte are missing. Now at Waterloo, Arthur Wellesley used his classic 'reverse slope' tactic - basically keeping his soldiers on the exterior slope of a hill to keep them safe from artillery fire. Napoleon's cannons were still able to skim cannonballs over the top of the hill though and they did score some casualties. If you try to use reverse slope in this battle it will work as well as it did for Wellesley at Waterloo.

I am working on a post now.

Ah, this makes sense! Yes, reverse slope defense will work here. Now I understand your line of questioning in the PMs. I was putting a lot of detail into my responses, because I didn't know what you were getting at. but the skirmishers will still be about 200 meters below the military crest of that western slope.

@andreyich @landain @jamesyco Alright guys I made my post.

This is less of a strategy phase I guess, because as they say "no plan survives first contact with the enemy", so trying to make up an actual strategy now would be futile because you would certainly change your plan once the battle begins and you see the layout of the enemy. Think of this as more of a "where should we put our troops" phase.

If nothing else, I would recommended dividing the army into the North Flank, the Center, and the South Flank. What units should occupy each? Of course you're all free to discuss alternatives here and determine it in the OOC, and then finalize it in your replies in the IC.

Edit: Landain ninja'd me, lol. He's got the right idea, something like that is a good start.

Well, if Marion sends Cavalry, the infantry will assume squares. If there is an artillery battery close by, a regiment could encircle the battery to protect it from a cavalry assault. If it is an infantry general advance, then Let those guns blast away! I believe the British laid down on the west side of hte slope, so many of the rounds flew over their head. then they stood up just as the "Old Guard" got to their positions.

If you want to, have at it. But in any case, the Doofus Map I made up above should be sufficient for now lol.

I am considering sending light infantry (Jaegers) into the woods, either to the north or the south with the intent of attacking the enemy flank. I have four battalions of Jaegers on the field at 400 soldiers per battalion or 1600 Jaegers. Although they may be sufficient to turn the flank of an attacking infantry force, I was considering a formation of Dragoons or other cavalry might be more effective. POssibly splitting the force by sending cavalry to one side and Jaegers to the other? What are your thoughts on this idea?

Naturally, this would be to attack the enemy while they are advancing. The artillery can attack the advancing infantry at range, but the infantry won't be able to engage until about a hundred yards, given the use of muskets. Undoubtedly, the enemy will stop between 70 and 100 meters to fire a volley before charging with the bayonet. At that time, when the enemy is unleashing a volley, would be the perfect time for Jaegers and possibly cavalry to conduct a double envelopment while they think they are attacking.

I posted this in another thread I am in by mistake. The Thread moderator was quite confused. LOL
