The small village was illuminated by countless lanterns and lamps lining the pathways. An event of some kind was taking place- men and women alike gathered in the city square dancing and drinking themselves into oblivion. Music could be heard everywhere and anywhere. Children ran in between alleyways, laughing, without any fear of getting lost.
Not the same could be said about the houses. They were devoid of life and each one hid secrets in the dark. Many local businesses were locked, some were not. Thankfully, the citizens had nothing to worry about- after all the city watch was scattered all around the village.
So no one batted an eye when an unknown ship arrived at the dock.
Marcus leaned over the edge of the ship, examining the small dock. It was mostly deserted, except a single guard and a pair of drunks stumbling their way across the boardwalk. This was just a short stop to restock on supplies and possibly steal some gold. He had one of the cabin boys prepare a list of the missing resources. Usually, he would have the quartermaster prepare it, but he wasn't around anymore and Marcus was not in a hurry to replace him just yet.
'' This is yer final chance t' tell me if ye wants anythin' specific. If ye don't, you're payin' with yer own coin.'' sighed Marcus, reviewing the list for the hundredth time.
He knew that the guard would probably leave them alone if they pretended to be traders although they would have to get rid of him in case he requested to look over their goods. After a moment of hesitation he ordered:
'' Try t' stick together. If anyone asks, tell 'em we're traders from England. Only iniate violence as a last resort- 'tis th' last time we're goin' t' be on land fer th' next couple of weeks. Th' cabin lads are t' stay on board. We shall leave as soon as th' sun starts t' rise.''
Anya was off the ship as soon as the captain finished speaking. Her body seemed to convulse with excitement as her eyes darted from house to house. While the town wasn't as wealthy as other towns, she has heard it had lots of small shops filled with various handmade trinkets that probably no one would miss if they went missing. Her astrolabe was damaged in the last battle the crew had and she was hoping that she could 'borrow' a replacement. Besides, it was quite a while since Anya had the opportunity to observe the new trends amongst the common folk and she's been itching to sew something with silk which she acquired a couple of months ago.
