Aha! The opening IC post has been done, and there's still more than an hour and a half left in (my) day. So I kept my promise. :P Also, for anyone interested, here is my character.
Name: Baron Aelfric Eadwigsson
Gender: Male
Race: Human
Age: 34
Physical Description: Aelfric is a good sized man, nearly six foot tall and well-muscled. He has dark blonde, very shaggy hair that hands down to his shoulders and a matching beard. His eyes are a bright, piercing green.
Equipment*: Aelfric primarily uses a good quality iron longsword. It is well-crafted and strong, but plain and unadorned by noble standards. Along with the longsword he has a sturdy hardwood kite shield emblazoned with his personal heraldry (a black wolf against a large mountain). He wears a sleeved shirt of simple chainmail underneath a tabard, also displaying his own crest. The entire ensemble is completed by sturdy leather boots and a matching pair of brown leather gloves.
Brief Bio: Long ago, when Beor the Old crossed the mountains to carve out a Kingdom for himself, he brought with him a host adventurers and freemen looking to make their fortune. It was they, rather than the nobles and the knights already sworn to Beor’s banner, that made the invasion so succesful. The came not only as conqueruers and destroyers, but as settlers. They worked the land and displaced the native Turizi, making it the Dalrian Kingdom not only in name.
Amongst those adventurers who followed Beor was Aelfric’s grandfather. His grandfather was born a commoner. A free commoner, granted, who farmed his own land and paid rent to the local lord rather than being tied to the land like a serf. Still, a commoner nonetheless and one who felt that his homeland had nothing more to offer. So he followed Beor the Old, who promised those loyal to him land and glory beyond the mountains.
Beor, of course, did not disappoint. He created the largest unified nation in all of Provinka. Aelfric’s grandfather, for his service during the wars of the invasion, was knighted and officially made part of the lowest order of nobility. He was born a commoner, and died a knight. Aelfric’s father lived his life as a knight, serving his lord faithfully as part of his personal retinue. Shortly after his father died, when Aelfric was 29 years old, war erupted in Dalria.
King Geralt’s younger brother, Victor, sought to usurp the throne. Aelfric fought for King Geralt, earning many honours during the two years of civil war. When the war was ended, and Prince Victor and his followers had been banished from Dalria, Aelfric’s service was rewarded with a grant of land once belonging to a rebel. He was made the Baron of Turizi, and given lordship of the associated village and surrounding countryside. He has since proven popular amongst the villagers. He lives in a large though modest house in the village (though he is in the process of building himself a proper manor), and deals fairly and justly with those he rules.
When the ruins were discovered in the forests on his land, Aelfric was ordered by his Lord to investigate the ruins. He undertook the task dutifully, if a little resentfully.
As always, feel free to make questions or suggestions.
