It'll all right if times are tough, it happens, and I appreciate that you let us know. In general I'm okay with figuring out a way to handle temporary inactivity/low activity, as long as you (as in all of you) tell me about it.
Perhaps I'd not make a post, as it alone would be quite short on my part. But I could send some reactions on PM on how Marcus reacts to Victor's comments.
I don't necessarily dislike short posts, myself, if the situation calls for them (I know I've made several, including the most recent one, that were pretty short), but if you prefer I don't mind incorporating Marcus reaction into my next post either.
Nice, thank you. Who do you want to go next? I feel like @DrabberRogue probably needs to deal with Marcus addressing Arcturus, but I guess I can go, too, if you want.
Happy one year anniversary! Somehow, in one year and 150 IC posts, the false Paleblood players have yet to leave the starting building. Eh... I'm thinking now might be a good time to post in the interest check that we're looking for more players. Thoughts?
Would you like to post in the meantime? DrabberRogue hasn't logged on RPGuild since last time he posted (currently 19 days ago), so... yeah, don't wait for him right now, I think.
I had wanted to join this way back but saw how long ago it had been started and thought you guys might not be accepting. I'm currently reading over the information and am tentatively interested in. I'm not just interested in cosmic horror after all, I'm also a cosmic whore. (See what I did there? Yes? No?... Blame TikTok.)
Edit: I made a character! I may have gone a bit overboard... lol I decided to differentiate him from the characters I've already seen by giving him an oddity/quirk related to the properties of his blood. If that was too much I'll remove it haha.
Race: False Paleblood
Appearance: Yarrow is imposing in stature but soft in smile. He has acquired a rather unsettling aura, in which you are unsure whether you should be calmed by or scared of his presence. He is neither overly comely or homely, occupying an odd space of attractiveness that differs from person to person. Seemingly on theme, his body type is neither overly muscular, fat, or thin. One could say he’s painfully average, but he doesn’t blend well into crowds despite this.
Yarrow is most notable characterized by a bald head and a goatee with a particularly bearded chin, accentuated by his narrow, almost rodent-like, facial structure. His eyes are of a pale blue, almost green, and seem to glow in contrast to his somewhat ashen, sallow skin tone. His nose is rather large and round, but the contrast to his otherwise narrow facial features seems to make its proportions more balanced than it is. It should be noted his eyebrows are thick and somewhat bushy, giving way to very readable facial expressions. Proportionally, nothing of Yarrow’s body stands out compared to anything else. That being said, once could say he was thick-boned. His chest is barreled but his musculature and weight make it difficult to distinguish, with thick, but not muscularly-defined, arms and legs. His body-type lends him natural strength and fortitude.
Yarrow’s final distinguishing feature is the size of his hands. Proportional to his size, but wide palmed and long fingered. His hands appear delicate like a musician or artist, but their size affords a deceiving amount of strength. His nails are painted black, with the ring finger on his right hand painted white. If asked about this, he would ignore the question, but in such a way it is obvious a sore part of his history is buried in the practice of this aesthetic choice.
Height: 6’1” Weight: 250 lbs
Clothes: Yarrow is dressed like most newly-initiated hunters with a an imposing black garb faintly reminiscent of civilian clothes and fitted close to his form but with enough range of motion to practice the impressive acrobatics of some hunters. The main difference is his coat is lined with fur focused mostly around the collar in a burst of flamboyance that trails down the edges. Most hunters forgo fur as the aesthetic is always ruined by splashes of blood drying and matting the hairs. Yarrow seems unbothered that this will happen as he hunts, seemingly comforted by the presence of furs regardless of their state.
Personality: Despite his appearance being otherwise average, Yarrow’s personality is nothing but. Yarrow is borderline eccentric. He looks for the unnoticed attributes in his surroundings, and revels in “little wonders” such as the movements of ants or plant-life appearing in stone where conditions would normally discourage rooting. He’s keen to pick up on small ticks others have in their conversations, and sometimes even be bothered by excessive, dramatic movements in facial features.
If one were to start a conversation on the nature of gravel, he would be oddly interested and unable to put down the conversation. “The small details are the building blocks of our grand architects” he likes to say, referring to gods and men alike. While fully able to grasp the big picture, Yarrow will always favor the small details. He is meticulous in his curiosity.
The false paleblood will often disregard social convention for honesty and wield truth like a hammer against clandestine motives and actions. Sometimes it can seem like he doesn’t even understand social cues in the first place, whether true or not is yet to be determined. If Yarrow ever feels deceived, he can become vindictive and hyper focused.
In states of anger, aggression, or bloodlust, Yarrow can begin to seem deranged or unhinged. This is less because of mental infortitude and comes from a place of pride in his strength. Shows of brute savagery are his favored tactic, quickly overwhelming opponents were possible.
Background: Yarrow was born in Yarnham and has lived in the city much of his life. He has lived through countless hunts in his family’s residence, one of the first built since the razing of old Yarnham. The Greywoods are a wealthy group of merchants who have long procured materials for hunters of all types. Neutral to the different hunter factions, every workshop has at one point purchased materials from the Greywoods. To keep from drawing ire from hunters, the Greywoods have long abstained from partaking in blood outside of when necessary. That is to say, only a handful of people attached to the family are true Yarnhamites. Abstaining limits the appearance of the plague of beasts in the family, protecting them from suspicion.
This of course, has lead to more deaths among the Greywoods than other families. Unable to recover without use of the blood, many Greywoods die from otherwise curable diseases. To ensure the survival of the family the younger generations are encouraged to visit other lands to find wives and husbands. If not for the perceived need of neutral forces in wars and conflicts, the Greywoods would not have adopted these practices.
Being born into this family largely restricted Yarrow while growing up. He had to conduct himself politically, every action of his reflecting on the prestige and importance of his family. Every slight against the public could reflect negatively on business. Publicly voicing support for any single faction in the city could call for punishment. Unable to live unbound by convention, Yarrow turned inwards. While other boys played ball in the streets on good days or teased adults, Yarrow read books. While other boys grew into puberty and cemented their social circles, Yarrow helped his family map out the best routes to transport supplies from outside of Yarnham.
A week before the night of the Bloodmoon, Yarrow left Yarnham to another country to find a wife after his second cousin had died. The family had grown to small in the recent years and Yarrow was the only young adult who was ready to be married. His goal was purely political, to procure the affection of some miner’s daughter, a high standing merchant, or a Noble of influence. His family needed an infusion of wealth and status as the state of Yarnham otherwise began to decline the week prior to the Bloodmoon.
When Yarrow finally did find a lover, it was too late. Unbeknown to him, while he was away the great merchant family of the Greywoods finally fell to the roaming beasts during the Blood Moon. Though, he didn’t return to this news with a lover in turn. He was going to tell his family that he failed, and ran out of resources. The lover he had found was nobody of wealth or status. They had just been a life from the streets. Before Yarrow had left his lover for Yarnam, they also died. The doctors in the other country described it as a disease of the blood, born in their streets among the lowlifes.
When Yarrow had finally came back, it had been a month since his family had been slain. The city of Yarnham was about to begin selling off the estate piece by piece until it was discovered Yarrow was an heir. Yarrow seized control of the estate, hired workers to repair the damage done to the house on the night of the Blood Moon, and closed it to the public. He mourned privately for months after until he eventually became stricken with the same disease that killed his lover. It was at this point he left behind his family’s ideals and sought out the church to become a true yarnhamite in order to heal his disease.
In the 5 years since, Yarrow has come into his own, no longer bound to the ideals of his family. His family had wealth shut up in storage that he was able to live on in the meantime. Instead of finding a job he used this money to learn. He bought books, hired personal trainers, and went to parties. He crammed years of social and personal development he was denied by his family’s ideals into as short a time span as he could. He became known as the “Eccentric Heir of the Greywood name.” Eventually all that wealth dwindled away and Yarrow prepared himself to re-enter the workforce. This time not as a merchant, but a hunter.
Oddity: Yarrow has an unusually high blood tinge for a new hunter, the cause of which would appear to be unclear. As a trade off, he is much more prone to bloodlust than other hunters. As he grows as a hunter he will undoubtedly catch the attention of Hunters of Hunters, as well as Vilebloods, that watch him in the field.
As a rule (as much for you as for any future potential applicants that might by chance spot this post), at least in my RPs, if the first word in the tag-list under the RP title (also visible on the RP page itself by the words "Join status" says "Apply" rather than "Full", it is accepting new players. Regardless, I'm happy to see interest so soon after posting in the Interest Check. Welcome!
Hmm... interesting. There's certainly something for me to work with on this character, which bodes well for how interesting its story will turn out in the long run. I only really have two points that I feel need clarification:
In the last paragraph of his background, you state that Yarrow discarded the ideals of the Greywoods and became a socialite, presumably trying to build relationships with some of the people he wasn't allowed to interact with before. Anyone in particular? Did he just get buddy-buddy with random (predominantly newly risen due to the Night of the Blood Moon) aristocrats, or do you imagine there's certain people he would have been more or less inclined to associate with? The easiest would obviously have been the Healing Church (specifically the White Church, since the Black Church isn't known for its social graces and doesn't waste their Hunters' time by having them attend parties), but I suppose he could have built other relations if he was cautious enough.
The other thing that needs clarification is the "race" being (False) Paleblood. You aren't the first one to write that, and I see how it can be confusing, so just bear with me for a moment. I use Paleblood about naturally occurring, "true" Paleblood. False Paleblood is the artificial imitation of the former. (False) Paleblood is a shorthand way of referring to both of these collectively. Using (false) Paleblood might be correct if there was doubt which one he was (though it wouldn't make much sense initially, when he'll (probably) still just think that he's an "ordinary" Hunter), but I would like it specified for your characters. So long story short, please put the race as either Paleblood or false Paleblood. (EDIT: Considering that Yarrow became a Hunter for profit rather than to treat a disease, I suspect he would be a false Paleblood Hunter.)
Beyond that I don't think I have anything to interject.
