I'm a cheap bastard. For years, more than I would like to say, I've written my bad drafts on Wordpad. You know, the free word processor? Yeah, you know.

I'm thinking of getting another one, and since this site is full of writers I reckoned some of you would have some experience in this. Of course, there's the obvious Microsoft Word, but I've been looking at one named Scrivener. Eying it intently, you might say. Giving it the old elevator-eyes. Another app I'm interested in is Grammerly (which isn't a word processor, but a neat little program all-the-same).

I'm looking for input from anyone here that has used any or all of these, if you've the spare time. Or, if there's others that you feel are better, feel free to share.

The reason I ask this here instead of looking on Youtube for reviews, is because I'm not only a cheap bastard but also paranoid. These programs fund youtuber's for advertisements and positive reviews and I want real people's feedback.

If you're looking for a free Microsoft Word equivalent, Open Office is pretty good. I also have Grammarly installed for when I'd rather just write my post on the forum. It's not much, but it helps.

This +1

Open Office is a good alternative. So is Google Docs, which is basically free Microsoft Word.

I haven't had a large writing project in awhile, but used Scrivener version... 1? maybe 2? This was a few years ago and I see they are on version 3 now, which I haven't used. But really, really liked it!

If you're just talking about writing RP posts, it might be overkill, but if you're working on a book or other large project, it's nice. :)

Thanks for the advice everyone. I've decided to go with Google Docs because it's free.
