@Dog I'm not sure about the size scaling, but from what I've seen I think Imperial Knight's would be a bit too unwieldy to fit the bill of Heavy.

Oof. I really just like bulky and heavy-ass mecha.

@Dog The 40k approach of 'go really big or be a heretic' doesn't really fit the setting. The thing about MAS units is that they've practically replaced both fighter craft in space and tanks on the ground. While there still may be some niche uses for both of those platforms, the MAS is now the most standard war machine. Now sure, a 40k inspired titan could likely do well to replace a tank on the ground, but it doesn't serve the other half of its role being a replacement for a fighter. In space, such a MAS would be completely unwieldy and it'd be nearly impossible to effectively defend itself against squadrons of other speedy MAS units. And there will be PLENTY of space in this RP as the aim is to be more on the side of Gundam, Armored Core, Robotech/Macross.

That said, I'm sure something akin to a Macross Destroid (or the Warhammer if you favor Battletech's ownership over the mech over Macross/Robotech ownership) would suffice nicely as a heavy weapons platform.

Thanks for the suggestions! I think I'll either take the Atlas, Thunderbolt, or the suggested Macross Destroid.

@vietmyke She is 101st, trained in CQC or something by @Jarl Coolgruuf's character. She has been with the 101st for 14 years or something. I cant exactly remember how old she is without looking but she is veteran.

Also while there's currently a party going on in the Int Check, could I get some serious feedback for my CS? I like Hot Topic and Emo memes as much as any other RPer out there, but waiting for vietmyke to respond is giving me anxiety some additional opinions would be nice to see what I can fix/improve in the meantime.

I mean, I'm interested, Myke, but I need to figure out if I can make the sheet or not. It's very complicated! 😂

Would a pure heavy melee mecha work somehow?

@Dog Not really. Heavies are used as mobile heavy weapons platforms. They'd be the MBTs where as Mediums would be like IFVs if you catch my drift. They aren't agile or fast enough to effectively melee an opponent. Most enemies would easily evade the strikes. GM has provided a better answer.

Alrighty, time for some feedback and critique! I've been liking everything I've been seeing so far, so this will be exciting- at least for me anyway.

@Rapid Reader

@Yam I Am

@Arkitekt

With all these well written characters starting to finish up, I'll most likely be getting the OOC set up! I know we're waiting on a couple more, but we'll probably be shifting to the OOC by the end of the week

A melee heavy mech could work, like a sort of medieval knight in space kinda vibe, relying on its size and armor to keep it safe, while still being mobile enough to function as a fighter. Probably not melee only, but it could definitely be melee heavy, with a few supplementing ranged weapons so its not a sitting duck while making its way to the front.

Here's somewhat of idea for my melee mecha.

I also have the newer version of the T-120 (still WIP). So, I might have two sheets from which I gonna pick from.

It sort of looks like a different take on a typical 'new guy' character, and I have yet to have had a test pilot in any of my iterations of this RP, so that'll be exciting. I have no issue with the character concept thus far, and I like the direction you took with it.

Glad to hear that this angle is fun, I wasn't completely sure it would fit, but now I really like the idea of her having a pretty different perspective to many of the other pilots/soldiers (coming more from a R&D environment). I think it will be pretty fun to write if I'm given a chance. :D

That being said, I am curious, when/where did she score the kills she currently holds? From her background, it seems she's spent her entire career thus far as a test pilot, and is getting her first taste of combat testing now. Did she get them while fleeing from the Garmr? If so that's a lot for a single pilot on their own. Just food for thought.

I'd originally imagined her background as having involved some combat, but thinking about it, I think it's a bit more fun if the combat mentioned in her background is her first real, bloody taste of combat.

Building off of this train of thought, I've knocked her down to one kill, and I'll throw in some fluff in her background about the one baddie she shot down while escaping.

Regarding the mech- or what parts of it are completed, I like it as well. It kinda seems like its trying to combine the speed (and relative fragility) or a conventional aerospace fighter with the more maneuverable MAS. To be honest, the design philosophy seems very similar to Ingram's Sparrowhawk, but in the opposite direction in regards to speed and durability. All in all, excited to see how it all fits together.

Full disclosure, my starting point was just wanting to write someone going really fast.

Jokes aside, I like the idea of the Peregrine being the opposite solution to the Sparrow.

I love the idea that two different R&D teams came up with their own solution(s) to the limitations and complaints about the Sparrow.

One team, created the Sparrowhawk, reasoning that some performance improvements would allow more armor and weapons. As your fancy sheet says, it provides the UEE with a very nimble/fast MAS that doesn't die from another MAS sneezing on it, and that can punch up in a big way. The resulting MAS might be slightly slower than the Sparrow but the difference isn't likely to matter all that much, especially when considering the gains.

Another team felt that slowing down the Sparrow was the wrong solution and instead focused on making a new MAS that emphasizes even greater speed. The Peregrine sacrifices the ability to take a hit based on the assumption that an up-armored MAS isn't gonna survive that much more and really leaning into the pilot pulling off some cool moves. I imagine it's the sort of crazy, high-tech plane that most rookies hate to fly, and that really requires the pilot to be willing to redline it, which is to say it's pretty awesome, but also constantly trying to kill the pilot.

Thanks for the feedback, was fun and helped me think about things a bit more!

I'll try to flesh out the Peregrine's sheet within the next day or two.

@Dog Yeah! Both of those could work. A heavy mech with a superheavy pile-bunker style lance, and an afterburner to give it a surprisingly fast charge could be a threat to warships and MAS alike, pair it with a sword and shield(or a fucking warhammer) for close in fighting, and maybe some point defense guns and a missile system for a modicum of ranged threat and that would be a very viable mech.

As far as the T-120 goes, I like the idea of it being a commonly fielded merc suit- most mercs making a living in the no-man's land typically pilot Fenrir IIs, which is basically the AKM of the mech world, so the T-120 being the equivalent of the RPK is pretty cool. The MRL-20 is kind of strangely named though. Its the Multiple Rocket Launcher 20 but only has 8 missiles? Also it seems kind of underpowered- If all the launcher has is 8 missiles, I'd probably expect it to be able to disable a medium in 1-2. Shield generators are also a rather new invention, so it probably wouldn't be commonly fielded on the standard T-120- though it would make sense to be put on Moore's custom T-120. Also, would also probably need a short explanation to why Moore uses one of these, instead of a UEE built mech, and how he got his hands on one in the first place. Maybe an undercover assignment required him to use nonstandard mechs, and after finishing said assignment he decided... hey, well if its just gonna sit there I might as well take it.

But yeah, I like both of those!

Ooh, an earthling, not a lot of those left.

Yeah, centuries of wars, famines, plagues, and a whole lotta people having kids in space colonies elsewhere will really do that to a place...

All in all, I like the character, and I have no real criticisms of her as far as direction goes. I like the whole drop-out turned aspiring-ace sort of path set for her. Of course, no party is complete without a raging alcoholic I suppose- doesn't matter if you're in fantasy-not-europeland or space. I think she'll fit in just fine.

Hey, who doesn't like to party every now and immediately after? Yeah, in case it wasn't super obvious, Lucina more just doesn't have a huge direction in her life. She's the type of soldier to go, "I fucking hate my job" and then in the same sentence re-enlist for another four-year tour. Of course, if you get to know her better and get her to open up (Or just buy her enough cocktails on Saturday night), you'll learn more about why she thinks and acts about things the way she does.

Beneath her pretty sarcastic and deflective surface, Lucina does genuinely care about a lot; But given how in general bleak things have gone for both her and how she perceives the events of the galaxy at large, it's given her a, "Well if I just expect things will be completely grimshit terrible, I can be happy when they turn out to be merely just bad" persona that she puts on. It's an attitude she got because - well let's face it - maybe she was a beacon of bright and shiny optimism at some point, but life just didn't really turn out the way she thought and she's seen things blow up in her face one right after the other to the point where she can't help being anything but.

Incidentally, I know it wasn't intentional but I found it amusing that on the character sheet her gear was labelled as 'standard for Imperial service'- The Imperial Service is the shorthand name given to the Royal Family's secret service/bodyguard unit.

I totally 100% intended this pun to be made and it is in no way an accident whatsoever and Lucina is totally suited to be a bodyguard for the Royal family with experience and qualifications and a sunshine personality to match, yes sirree.

In regards to the mech, I'm actually quite happy you went and took one of the templated examples and built on it to make it your own through these moderate adjustments that still fit well into the established world.

Yeah, I didn't think that for something like I wanted I needed to go out and make this super-special custom chassis. Hell, in Real LifeTM it's more common for a team of smartboys to just take a "good enough" preexisting chassis and just start tweaking things here and there about it until it fits the role they want it to have, and I thought that the same sort of thinking process would go into this as well. It helps a lot with logistics too - Getting replacement parts is easier, and you don't need a whole new technical manual to find out how to fix a UBL-053 when the PTX is everywhere.

Overall everything looks pretty well thought out and well designed. Bravo!

Great, glad to hear it!

A little late finding this, but I might work up a sheet to throw my hat in the ring if that's still alright. Can never get enough mech games.
