Also @rezay you know that Klomsters Bois can live for 3 centuries so making chars for him makes sense since they will outlive every single one of ours.

@DX3214That's also an important consideration— I think his are the only ones who do that as well. The advance of civilization would affect them quite differently

I can bet that due to their long-living they are more conservative-minded due to old people being more numerous and staying in power longer but that is my opinion.

@rezay I'd leave this for the GM to decide, it's Sly's choice not ours and we're not a democracy.

As usual lots of posts during my sleep :P

@rezay However, i think you forgot Flax and other plant fibers. It makes sense for them to focus on plant based things since they eat the stuff.
As for yurts, i'd say they hunt Rhinos and Krollan specifically for hides. Just leaving the meat since to them it's a waste resource.

As for the passage of time. I was expecting the months scale of things from last time, but there we had a weird racial memory so people sort of remembered stuff. So tech sort of improved monthly or quarterly.
Which is hella fast, so here it'll probably be different.
But yeah, it's also a question how many players want their characters to be important through time. If we want to we can just say that all races gain technologies faster than history (and those with intelligent are even faster).

But yeah, discussions probs needed.

I think that in general we want to build a world where everyone is happy with where things are at. Whilst it IS quite amusing to see cultures develop over thousands of years, I find it hard to imagine that it's easy to manage or comprehend haha.

To be completely honest, I feel that we can just get to a level of magic/tech we all find fun and go on with that. Cultures change over thousands of years, you can't really expect to have them stay the same over the time. As such, it might be ideals to focus on individual's stories and use them to show off the culture. As it is fantasy-ish RP of sorts, I don't think it's entirely unlikely that tech advances faster than in our timeline. As long as it helps with the story and RP, I'd rather not cut an interesting story in half just ebcause it takes time to research something.

But do tell me if you guys feel the same or differently. I'm open to any ideas :)

Plant fibers being used to make textiles is still a couple centuries ahead of the takhal at least (using the standards of the real world, may be shorter here). The problem is that you need to spin it into a yarn, and then put it on a loom to make fabric from the yarn. In the Neolithic, clothing was made primarily from animal skin, and such plant fibers were often used for threads in sewing these skins together, but not much else.
*It really depends on where the takhal are. They are in the late stone age, so maybe this trip down south is when they start to put plant fibers to more extensive use. It does have to start somewhere, I suppose. Remember, they are very conservative, technology moves slowly. Unless there's someone to pawn the technology off of through trade.

The only exception is something like this, which isn't something you'd make clothing from:

Also, I have my reasons for them not hunting. Namely, it sort of bypasses the "herbivore" aspect of them, on a thematic level. What I mean by that is It seemed strange that they'd come up with the idea to actively seek out other creatures to kill and take things from. I do think there'd be a difference in the psychology of "We take care of these things, so they're our property and we can do what we wish with them" vs "We're going to actively seek out and kill these big herding animals minding their own business, who are huge and live a lot like we do." My conclusion was that they'd probably domesticate (or partially domesticate) something smaller before engaging in any large-scale hunting (that could be a shift later on, where the takhal become more aggressive and carnivore-like. Maybe they eventually develop into omnivores as a reaction to agriculture/sedentary lifestyle, for those of them that do adopt it. Lots of potential). Also, sacrificial practices in religious require a reliable supply of subjects. I wanted to incorporate that into their society early.
I also thought it would be interesting to make them reliant on another creature to develop properly. You can't really extract milk by hunting, but that doesn't have to be the case of course. GM seemed fine with it though.

@rezay ah i got it.
They use animals they find dead for their hides. Primarily for yurtas.

As for some plant fibers, sure flax is kinda advanced, but making something a bit more fabric-like than the raincoat example should be possible.
I mean, there's plants you just open up, drag out the strings inside and dry them. Makes rudimentary strings one can weave into things. Not full on dense fabric but certainly good for some clothes.

But yeah, either they go naked or hides otherwise. And hunting for hides doesn't make massive sense.

Yeah— I think they'd end up slaughtering animals if there were a sudden need for pelts, but probably not unnecessarily. They would take them off members of their herds which had died, most of the time. The psychological difference I was referring to would be in hunting as a parasitic sort of relationship, while herding would be mutualistic. They'd have different perceptions of the practices.
They don't have a huge physiological need for clothing (like humans do), being covered in fur and huge, but on a sexual/cultural level, modesty would be very important. They live in close-knit tribes in a really very harsh environment (grasslands being basically like deserts covered in grass— very dry, little vegetation or natural cover, not a lot of sources of nutrition), so they would definitely be very monogamous. Also, fashion. In a very stratified society, fashion is a good way to mark out different classes of people

I'm sure they do make some primitive fabric-like things, but nothing durable enough or nothing being produced on a large enough scale to make clothing out of it, at least not when pelts/leather is available. But it is something which they'll probably start doing very soon.

Also, I thought I should specify what area the takhal call the Yaagkhege, and what river was called the Nëju.

This is no claim to land or anything, there's no coherent idea of land ownership among the takhal yet, since they haven't encountered any other groups. This is just the geographical region they know by that name and call home, and this includes all of their traditional migratory range.
