HEROIC EGALITARIAN RESCUE ORGANIZATION
NOT JUST A COMIC BOOK______
In the year 1764, a mysterious meteor known as X-200 jetted towards the Earth, threatening to be a massive extinction event. Thankfully, X-200 evaporated upon contact with Earth's atmosphere, and the entire planet breathed a collective sigh of relief. It seemed as though this was just a near miss. Scientists would soon find out that it was not. The meteor had, upon dissolution, left intergalactic dust in the atmosphere that a small percentage of the population, about 5-7%, had a peculiar reaction to. 'Peculiar' not meaning the sniffles. ‘Peculiar’ meaning things such as telekinesis, teleportation, fire-breathing, flight, superhuman strength, turning into an actual dinosaur, and other impossible, strange superhuman abilities that were entirely unexplainable by conventional science. In short: Superpowers.
The first generation of "superhumans" soon realized, of course, that these powers provided opportunities to help the populace, as well as opportunities to harm and take advantage of the populace. Those that chose to use their powers for evil became the first generation of real-world villains, and those that chose to use their powers to stop these villains became the first generation of real-world superheroes. And so this new order of people, those endowed with superhuman abilities, began to battle in the streets, their newfound powers coming to blows against each other as onlookers could only watch. The world governments quickly realized the potential that these people had and sent them off to fight for their nations in the battlefield, but an organization called ICOSA, the International Council on Superhuman Affairs, which governs the way superpowers are used in everyday life, intervened and gave superheroes a place in society.
From there, superheroism hit a golden age, and being a full-time superhero became not only a viable career choice, but a very lucrative career choice for individuals who do have mutations, about 7-8% of the population. Perhaps the most infamous of these Hero Companies was HERO, the Heroic Egalitarian Rescue Organization. HERO is a hero company situated in the city of Castleburg, a vibrant, buzzing, bustling city that is also cram-full of supervillains everywhere. HERO was known, however, for always getting the job done- often at the expense of the local infrastructure. Despite this, most HERO heroes were very well-respected for their commitment to keeping their city safe, though this respect often also comes with hiding in fear of the damage they will cause.
For a century, heroes were the coolest thing around, beating out models, athletes, actors, and musicians as the top celebrities and inspirations to little kids everywhere, but it has been 300 years since the X-200 crossed Earth's exosphere, with new technology in robotics and all sorts beginning to make heroism obsolete. With threats from near and far coming to cross Castleburg, it will be up to the heroes of H.E.R.O. to step back into the limelight, put on the spandex tights and funny capes, and save the city from whatever seeks to tear it down.
HERO 2064______
Hello, and thanks for stopping in! HERO 2064 is a sequel to an RP I made at the start of the quarantine that lasted for a solid year, and I, along with my co-GM @canaryrose, wanted to re-capture that same energy in this RP, though of course, new participants are 100% encouraged to join onboard this RP!
The RP is what I would consider a high casual difficulty RP, with an overall light/platyful mood, though some angst is always needed! While I don't like having specific numbers for paragraph requirements or word count or whatnot, I would like to see every post contribute meaningfully to the story. I would also like to see posting roughly weekly to biweekly, though I'm very flexible with real life so long as the channels of communication are open. The RP has a lot of latitude with what types of characters you can be, and hopefully it will amount to a good time!
If you have any questions, please DM me and/or @canaryrose and we'll be happy to answer! If you're interested, please pop into our Discord and the main Guild thread (see below), and don't hesitate to keep bumping this thread up! Thank you for reading and I hope to see you in the RP!
