Long time roleplayer here! Back and looking to dust off the roleplay skills and get some action on a new account! Anyways I was looking to see if there was any possible interest in a HxH RP, and was flirting with two ideas. One, a group of S rank Bounty Hunters tracking down a group similar to the Phantom Troupe, where players could play characters from either side. Or two, the one I'm sort of leaning towards, a group of prodigious second generation rookie Hunters, looking to carve their path in the realm of Hunters. The group would likely be just learning or only have slightly developed Hatsu abilities.

With that being said, much more information can be discussed and put together upon interest.

I'd be up for a hunter hunter rp!
Though, I've only gotten up to the end of Greed Island. ^^;

As for the plots I'd prefer the young prodigies, because this way people won't get stuck on figuring out their characters abilities(Nen is awesome but I've seen groups stall and get stuck on specifics)

I just marathoned the netflix stuff on hunter hunter so I'll be down for the second idea not interested at all in pvp games though.

Knowledge of the whole series isn't a necessity I haven't seen the full show in years, I'm actually around the same spot in my rewatch actually! Though I'd have to agree on the second point, I'll probably go for the one that gets the most interest the fastest. I'll also put together a character sheet tomorrow so people will actually have something to start putting down ideas.

@vancexentan And our second. Sounds good, I decided to do a rerun of it since the full release on Netflix too. Cool everyone is fresh on the concepts and rules of Nen then. Second idea seems popular then, I guess that should be the move! Character sheet up tomorrow around 7-8 PM Pacific, possibly earlier if I'm lucky, so hopefully we'll have more interest! Should be able to respond to any questions or any more interest in the morning as well.

Any character ideas from you two?

I was going to play a rather optimistic character a young kid around 17 or so. Just on the cusp of adult hood. His parents were relatively normal folks albeit they met through an internship with a pretty skilled hunter who helped bring out my OC's native abilities. He's not an especially keen on fighting being the only thing he does he just likes to travel and see new places and get stronger. His special skill/ace is being quick on picking up new techniques, and abilities quick.

@vancexentan Okay, sounds good to me, and it does seem like we’re going with the younger generation idea. So, I’d definitely prefer to keep everyone as a “second generation” Hunter. Just make sure you put this Hunter in your backstory well and line up why he has stuck around your parents through the birth and upbringing of a child.

As a note to everyone, the characters are all inheriting the life and the knowledge of someone who has already lived as a Hunter, powerful or not, all of these individuals are capable of using Nen in some form and have seen fit to in some way pass this way of living onto you. This character can be really anyone you want it to be, just make sure it makes sense for them to be in your life. While there are no hard restrictions, this would obviously not only be someone who has passed onto you their knowledge of the Hunter world, but ideally someone who has inspired you to dive into it. Perhaps passing on skills or helping you develop your own, taking you with them on their adventures or training you in seclusion. Be creative, I like fun ideas so if you’re curious about something just ask and we’ll probably be able to figure something out.

At the moment I have an idea for a kid, who grew up on a submarine and became obsessed with the stars. HIs hunter connection would be his father, who hunted sea monsters. His goal will be to find proof of aliens. So he'll be an alien hunter.

So how did dude get so into stars? Books, videos, occasional trips to the surface? How much time did he spend under water, and at what pressures? Was he born on the sub? Stuff like that could influence the growth of the characters abilities as well. Growing up in high pressure environments would definitely change the way you develop.

..Also, why aliens?

Aliens came from a combination of books, and the strange creatures he did see, with his own eyes, while watching through the windows while the submarine moved under the sea. Plus, as a child, he was well aware of life existing at different levels since he's seen them underwater, and fully aware there's plenty more on the surface, land, and sea. So he's certain that when you go up you'll eventually find more forms of life.

Not sure the exact pressure though. I'll have to give that more thought.

In my case the related hunter will probably be my character's uncle or grandfather who never made it big due to an injury early in their career that resulted in their arm or leg not healing completely properly. It's fine for everyday stuff and thanks to nen they could still handle some relatively minor fights

The moment I saw Hunter X Hunter roleplay, I came here as fast as I could!

Alright, understandable from a childs mind I suppose. Definitely give it more thought as to how his abnormal situation growing up changed hiw development, I'd do research on theoretical evolution and some related topics concerning it.

Edit- Okay so, important question that I really should have already asked. The only thing that's keeping this CS from already being up is my internal debate on whether or not to used a rough stat system. Opinions?

@ZxyxZemonStatistics tend to be hard to pin down accurately, or sufficiently address the needs of the rp at hand IMO thus making them unnecessary.

The way I see it it started with the relative telling stories about the glory days and the more (recent) impressive adventures of his friends, some "clearly exaggerated or made up" because he mentioned them pulling stunts no human could do. At first he was against mc becoming a hunter just like mc's parents but he realized mc was serious convinced them to let train him at least somewhat so he is better prepared.

I have settled on making the hunter relative mc's uncle, that way it makes more sense for him to still be somewhat active as minor bounty hunter, which might offer more story opportunities than if he was fully retired

@Duthguy Sounds all good to me, definitely think of how dangerous the individuals his uncle hunts down are, and set your training and mindset in battle accordingly, Unc is probably going to teach this kid the way he knows, which in a world like HxH is killing the enemy before you yourself die.

As for the Nen question, personally I’d assume it could actually be a transmutation, conjuration, or manipulation ability, depending on it’s use. My brain went transmutation given your changing your shadow into something solid, but I’m not really sure. I would think of how you’re going to use it most and go from there, remember you can also use connecting categories at 80-60-40.
