Name: What do we call them?
Gender: Iazok Qil a.k.a Old Zok
Race: Aldabra Giant Tortoisekin Beastman
Age: 158 years old
Physical appearance: Old Zok is rather tall compared to his brethren, standing at around 7 feet tall with an additional 3 inches when his neck is fully stretched out which doesn’t really happen often. Rising from his back is the trademark of the tortoisekin, a large rotund shell. Several hexagonal protrusions jut from the shell to from an intricate looking pattern which serves as both a tool for attracting mates and for providing impenetrable defense. This old tortoise’s body is riddled with scars more so on his shell.
History: What have they done? where did they come from? How'd they become a champion?
Iazok Qil grew up on the tropical shores of the Susset Isle west of the mainland. His childhood was not an easy one, he was born as the runt of 30 other siblings and was constantly bullied by them and his peers. However, he was always shielded by his mama. Every time he would get made fun of or teased his mother would always pull him close and say “Don’t worry my baby zok, you are a mighty Aldabra. If you ever feel scared or threatened don’t be ashamed to retreat into your shell. After all what’s the use if it can’t protect you?”
Fast forward and Iazok has finally hit puberty at the young age of 35. At this time his height has suddenly shot up and he’s grown taller than most of his peers and siblings. Although this growth spurt only added fuel to the fire. The bullying worsened and the timid Iazok would once again find himself powerless against the face of such pressure. Nonetheless, the little mama’s boy would always feel safe with his mother around even if doing so would incite more nasty remarks. It didn’t matter though, as long as he was with his mother it would all be fine.
This comfort however was not long lived. With the darkness from the north slowly creeping south it forced the local inhabitants to move as well. Due to the fear of the impending doom these inhabitants have lost sense of rationality and fled to the untainted lands often wreaking havoc in their attempt to escape. The Susset Isle was one of these places. The refugees weren’t as numerous at first and was welcomed with open arms. In the following months however, the trickle has suddenly turned into a flood. The once meek refugees were now boisterous demanding more and more resources using their current plight as an excuse. All the tension from the overpopulation and the spread of the darkness finally reached the tipping point and spilled. A fight broke out near the center of the town which eventually led to a large scale skirmish being fought between the residents and refugees and between the refugees themselves. Many innocents were caught in the crossfire and Iazok’s mother was one of them.
The both of them were out doing errands when the brawl erupted and she was accidentally hit hard in the head by a strong object which caused her to fall and start bleeding. Seeing his mother in such a state, an emotion that he had never felt before started to rise. Rage. He felt his entire body shaking, and faint green energy could be seen pulsing on his shell. Finally, it reached the climax and he shouted at the top of his longs. Seemingly resonating with his feelings, the pulsing green energy suddenly expanded and took the form of a giant tortoise shell about 5 meters in diameter and 3 meters in height. This giant shell pushed away all those in the current vicinity and brought a halt to the fighting. This brought enough time for the guards to arrive to quell the scene and in the center of the commotion they saw a crying Iazok and his wounded mother protected by a large translucent shell.
Ever since this incident, Iazok’s will was strengthened. He promised himself that he would never allow his mother to get hurt again and joined the army academy. Once he joined, news of his innate ability quickly spread and the teenage tortoise was placed in a special class with others who were gifted as well. Time quickly passed by and the growth of Iazok, who was now 65 years old, was rapid. He quickly rose through the ranks and was soon in charge of his own regiment. The main focus of this regiment was of course, to provide defense. With Iazok Qil at its center they racked merit after merit while defending against external threats. While others in his regiment were celebrating their status, this fame did not get to Iazok’s head at all. He remained vigilant against anything and everything.
This is why when the first wave of the legions (as they called it) arrived, he was ready. While majority of the populace was caught unaware, Iazok and his closest aides were ready. They defended against the first wave but it was not without cost, there were defenders with fatal injuries and a lot of the refugees situated outside the city gates were killed. However before they could recuperate, another attack happened within the following months and it soon started to occur in inconsistent intervals. No one knew when they would strike and how hard. For years, these attacks happened only increasing in frequency as the years dragged on. But they were no longer afraid. Standing at the forefront is the battle hardened shell of Iazok Qil who repelled wave after wave. Throughout the years scars from battle have accumulated on the tortoise’s body but he never wavered and stood unflinching against the forces of evil.
Now as the attacks are more frequent and with the forces becoming stronger, its more dangerous for the civilians to stay in the Susset Isle. The top brass received a letter from a very wounded messenger about a gathering of elite units to combat the spread of the darkness. Under a heavy heart the upper echelons came to the decision that they must relocate for the time being. To do so safely the civilians accompanied by the regular army and several of Iazok’s men, will travel by sea down south to seek refuge. Majority of the Shields of Susset remained to either wait for the reinforcements or fight their way down to meet them.
Equipment: What are they equipped with? Javelins? Slings? Spears and shields? Do they wear armor? Etc.
Offense? Never heard of it.
In addition to his already large shell, Iazok Qil carries a large tower shield around 5 feet in height and 2 feet in width which was painted with the insignia of the Susset Isle, a tortoise shell depicted as though it was a sun. He also wears bracers, leg guards, as well as a chest plate which extends to a few inches above the base of his neck to protect his vitals. Although Iazok’s primary focus is defense, this doesn’t mean he has no use for weapons. His primary weapon was a typical mace with a spiked tip. His secondary is a set of javelins that are often kept on the side of his shell which can be used in both melee and ranged combat.
Abilities: Both Physical and Magical
Iazok Qil needless to say, possess outrageous defense. His shell alone is enough to resist most physical attacks coupled with his shell projection and armor it’s nigh invincible. The shell projection, which cemented him as one of the army’s pillars boasts intense defensive capabilities. When it was first projected its size was still somewhat small, however through rigorous training and numerous battles it has increased to around 50 meters wide and 15 meters tall. Upon initial activation it, enemies with weak bodies will be pushed outside while those with stronger physiques will simply be knocked back a few feet. Once it’s been cast enemies can still enter although once they enter, the weaker ones will feel immediately feel sluggish for a few seconds with the effect decreasing the stronger an opponent is. The same effect is applied with ranged weapons where the strength of the user determines the severity of the debuff. Being from a place so close to the sea, the shield is naturally resistant to water, semi resistant to earth (which means the rules of the debuff apply to it), and not resistant at all to other types of magic (spells can pass through without problem). Attacks from the ones he considers allies are able to pass through the projection without problem.
Iazok can also focus choose to increase the strength and size of the projection. The result would be an increase in size by 50% both in height and width as well as being more resistant to the different spell elements (rules of the debuff) and making it harder for enemies to enter (normal debuff for the stronger creatures unless they possess considerable strength, cannon fodder creatures get completely blocked). However in order to do so, Iazok will be immobile and the duration spent using this enhanced mode will cause him to feel immense fatigue after for the same amount of time.
Soaking damage is useless if no one attacks you. Due to his quick rise in fame and prestige those who used to bully him now suck up to him. Iazok of course, is not quick to forgive and forget. He has mastered the art of taunting at those who have wronged him. This extraordinary ability somehow transferred over to the battlefield and has become a method of combat. Enemies within a certain distance will feel an irresistible urge to kill the caster and diverts their full attention to him.
Despite his incredible defense, Iazok’s physical strength is nothing to scoff at either. Equipped with his heavy mace, a single swing at full strength is strong enough to completely break the hard shell of his kin (as was proven when a few of them tried to defect to the darkness’s side). He also possesses more agility and speed than most people think. He’s able to move as nimbly and quickly as a regular human soldier.
