Hello everyone. I was binging some Yu-Gi-Oh episodes, mostly Sevens, and am interested in starting up a roleplay focused on the series. I am wanting to know if there would be anyone interested in pursuing this topic with me and a friend of mine. Both of us have been into the series for quite some time, and have done different roleplays in the past.

The general framework for the rp would be simple, almost GX inspired. The characters would be students going to a Dueling Academy out in the middle of no where GX intensifies and be mostly slice of life. I would be putting together a plot with some weird and possibly creepy things going on behind the scenes, but you would expect normal campiness involving the school setting and being a card game anime. And it starts off specifically with everyone having their entrance exams.

Other thoughts might be a personalized banlist so everyone isn't running negate.dek or letting some of the weaker yet popular decks have a chance to grow, custom cards, etc.

I'm interested, especially if customs are involved.

So um, how is RPing duels going to work?

@Crimson FlameYou would have a lot to catch up on, but luckily it is mostly easy to learn.

RP duels I figured would be handled like usual, and probably just be a few discussions between individuals to see how they would like to handle everything, winners, losers, etc. Individuals could either know what their hand is going to be (for lack of a better term stacking a deck) or there are deck shufflers to get a bit more of an authentic experience. Just so long as everyone is having fun and can come to an agreement.

If there is enough drive for something else, like us doing the duels on DuelingBook (as they have custom card creation and usage) then we can always handle it there, but the prior method is generally used a lot more, and I've only seen a couple of instances where its become an issue, Most of those were due to a lack of communication or just a general dick of a player.

Edit: A bit of a poor explanation, but its just discussing with different individuals about how everything will be handled.

@ShiyonichiAll extra deck summoning mechanics will be allowed. Fusion, Synchro, XYZ, Pendulums, and Link. And rituals as well, even if they aren't an extra deck mechanic.

I was thinking of doing an perky artist who uses Toons or a shy goth who uses a zombie deck. Which sounds more interesting to y'all?

Both sound cool! Though admittedly, Toons can be rather obnoxious in a low-LP setting (assuming we're going by the anime's standards of 4000 LP), and while I'm a big fan of zombies, quite a few of their newer (and better tbh) cards rely on Zombie World, which is an incredibly annoying card for pretty much any Deck to deal with lol. But if you can avoid those hurdles, either of them could work!
