Howdy.
*waves at you, my skull warping into a grin with my mouth slightly open*

*I barely managed to conceal my trepidation, but hopefully, I came off generally amicable. As things were, I was having to enter an almost meditative state to avoid giving too much attention to any one of the absurd individuals I was now surrounded by.*

Uh... Hi?

*Like, what did you even say to the manifestation of "Death"?*

<Snipped quote by Lewascan2>

*I chuckle at the use of the word killer, ironic with the present company as it was.*

I'm glad I never crossed paths with these killer whales else I wouldn't have the pleasure of such company.

*Motions to everyone in the room.*

*I grimaced openly, cringing at the memory of those abominations. Sure, Yandere had been bad on a personal level, an unparalleled nemesis, but Scion?*

Well, I call them whales, but that's more a mocking term so I can focus less on how easily they could destroy... pretty much everything if they started taking us in any way seriously back then. One was killed by pure luck and betrayal of one of their own kind. Only reason we could even kill the remaining one was that he -it- was depressed and suicidal... and also never took humanity seriously until it was too late. We hit him with a weapon that could strike every single dimension he was in simultaneously and managed to cripple enough of his vital abilities that we were able to finish him off before he could recover or escape.

*Even with Overclock V5 running at full bore, the only real warning I had of the second skeleton's repositioning was the reappearance of his aura directly beside me. Thankfully, between my enhanced perception and speed, I had a small eternity to panic in fast-forward, so fast that it ceased to be perceptible in combination with my relatively solid composure. I resisted the urge to cringe away from the very literal touch of death, my personal space quite thoroughly invaded, as I carefully and politely as I could manage reached over to brush the limb off me.*

Collin. I'm new around here... but that's pretty obvious. And "lively"? Ironically, that must be my line, given how chummy you're being.

A guest, hopefully I can accommodate to your needs if you wish I can have a residence built for you outside of the keep or you may have a room here.

Right, so... as much as I'd love to believe you're the purely altruistic sort, I hope you'll forgive me asking what the catch is? I mean, I don't really got anywhere to go or... I guess goals presently. But I did used to do mercenary work. As long as it's not innately conventionally morally contemptable, I'm game for paying back a favor. Though, given how uh... out of my depth I'm feeling here, I can't quite imagine what I could do that you can't far more quickly and effortlessly.

Collin, yes. I know you, but not in a way that is personal. I know everyone! It's a hobby of mine to meet people in this small, small world.

*Taps cane against the floor a couple times, staring in the direction of the fireplace.*

You'd be correct to say it is hard to wholly accept I'm anything but an altruist but everyone has a very different idea of right and wrong you see. There is nary a catch just a request, since you are stuck the least you can do is help keep out any riffraff that might invade. You don't need to mind you and as a gentleman I'd never force my will unto another as it would be rude.

*My expression was somewhat dry, as I took his hand and shook carefully, still minding my strength just in case.*

Oh, I suppose I guess I expected you to have sensed it already, but I wasn't really concerned about dying. Since most tales of "Death" as a being tend to revolve around those with a bit of concern over the cosmic balance, I was more worried about your stance on people that sort of sit outside the conventional life/death cycles. Which, you know...

*I gestured at Alna and the vampire-looking guy, Vinashy.*

We got these guys sure, and it's not that I can't die, more-so that I don't exactly stay dead. I'm genuinely not even entirely sure how it works myself. That's a bit too high-concept for me, since I did it on accident honestly. But probably, the reason I keep getting banished from other dimensions is that people can't get rid of me otherwise. I mean, the first time around, it was basically an all-star line-up of my world's godly pantheons, and they were pissed that I'd somehow outdone them in terms of immortality.

Okaaay, sure, I'll bite. My apologies, I don't exactly have the best experience with god-like beings as far as altruism is concerned. But sure, I'd be a pretty poor guest if I wasn't willing to act as a defender in times of need.

No need to apologize son, besides I'm far from god-like. I'm not infallible, I may be immortal and have a mastery of the arcane but bones can't magic themselves together without fingers to cast a spell. I was a man once too before...

I am well aware of the beings here, there are more than you would believe that tend to escape death… Or so they believe.

Damn, what a way to nuke my sense of scale from orbit. If you don't consider yourself comparable to a god, then I'd quite hate to so much as breath the same oxygen as something you actually think qualifies.

*Maybe it had simply been so long that I'd forgotten what godly auras felt like. Maybe it was simply that when I was standing before the Pantheons, I'd been too weak to sense them the same way I could sense Alna now. Whatever the case, I quite hoped that such things stayed thoroughly not my problem for a long long time.

*I chose not to outright dispute that, despite just how... frankly incorrect he was. I couldn't age. My body was not normal, not mortal any longer. Even now, I could only vaguely grasp the theory behind what happened when I self-resurrected. After all, I could only analyze it while dead. This guy wasn't the first Death God and/or concept of Death I'd stood before, and if all those other guys combined couldn't kill me, despite definitely wanting to? Well, I wasn't about to give this guy's promise much credence. Honestly, best case scenario, this "Uncle Death" knew perfectly well the reality and was just playing it off; after all, Death had a reputation to maintain with all these other guys. Outwardly, I merely shrugged with a wry expression.*

If that day comes, sure, but I've long since given up on there being an afterlife for me.

*My expression was incredibly conflicted. On the one hand: retirement, finally. On the other hand: coming from a guy like that, I wasn't sure I wanted to go to any afterlife he was offering. There was also, a particular aspect to consider.*

Eh, nah it's fine. I already step on enough divine toes just by existing. I can't imagine how many more I'd twig if I stepped anywhere near a divine plane. My body has this sort of... adaptational quality. Normally, it automatically indiscriminately rejects any sort of "alteration", but if I were to start willingly intaking the divine energy of an upper plane? Well, I'm already immortal in one aspect, but in theory and past experiences with such weirdness, that might actually cause me to ascend to proper divinity or something. Frankly, I have no desire for more power, despite the circumstances. I'm much happier just using what I have and fighting the battles I can.

You don't say? Sometimes, even though I'm pretty sure I'm not actually undead, I start to wonder. After all, the people of my original world called those like me "Revenants", since normally, we would resurrect a single time and have a chance to... I guess do whatever we wanted with that second chance? The gods seemed content to leave that be, but uh... then I sort of accidentally discovered a bug in the system, and well, here we are today.
