So this will be a bit of a bare bones interest check, because I don't know how many people will care for the idea at all.

This would be set in the timeline of Iron Blooded Orphans, sometime after the events of the show. The main characters would be human debris enslaved to a band of pirates. They're sent out to investigate a Gjallorhorn scout that's snooping around the reef of old ship debris, and discover what the scout was sent out for. A ship from the Calamity War, containing several Gundam frame mobile suits. The human debris were kept in check by the threat of explosives in the cockpits of their mobile suits, and they realize that with these new(or, rather, very old) mobile suits, they can be free of their masters.

The story will focus on their fight to keep their freedom after gaining it, and will be driven heavily by character choices.

I don't normally like to say that my games have "required reading," but if you're not familiar with the show, you may well be lost, or else include things in your posts or CS that don't actually make sense. I won't tell you what to do, but keep it in mind. That said, I will have a section in the full thread with world info to help keep things straight.

On a final note, I would love to have a co-GM to help keep things moving, and keep the lore consistent. Obviously, that person would need to be familiar with the show.

Fairly serious IBO fan here. Seen the show, but none of the supporting comics, etc. Interest will have to be tentative as I may or may not have the availability to play, depending on a plethora of factors. That said, crafting our own IBO Gundams and getting into all sorts of misadventures sounds like a blast.

So I switched my avatar to a Gundam one last week, not thinking of doing a Gundam roleplay. Well it seems to be serendipity as you’ve posted this interest check. I have seen Iron Blooded Orphans in its entirety, but it’s been a few years. But I’m sure that any holes in my memory about the show could be answered by you. So yes I am interested in this, as I now have the urge to write a mobile suit fight.

Alright, two people. I think if there was a third, and I knew we were all dedicated we could start it. I think it would also be a lot more collaborative than just GM player stuff.

You should know that I will be pretty strict about keeping to the naming convention and appearance of the Gundams in this. What I mean is in the show(and other properties) the gundams are all named and numbered after the demons in the Key of Solomon. So you have ASW-G-08 Gundam Barbatos, named for the 8th demon in the list.

So we know there are 72 in total, and the lovely thing about it is that most of them are canonically unaccounted for. So there's tons of room for fan stuff like this without stretching the bounds of lore too much.

I have dibs on ASW-G-36 Gundam Stolas, bu the by.

Just did some quick digging, this accurate?

I think that's accurate, although there's a few I'm familiar with that I don't know where they are or who owns them(Dantanlion and Gremory for instance).

I also didn't know there was a canon Seere.

I've also seen what looks like official development art for a handful of others, but we can ignore them.

There's also TONS of fan art of gundam frames, so there's a lot to pick from if you want reference art that doesn't belong to a canon suit.

Going off of this list on the wiki. Apparently the Seere is just mentioned and shown in silhouette only in the Gekko manga, so there's no real info on it.

Unfortunately the Gekko manga was never officially translated into English, and the only fan translations I can find only go up to chapter 4, so I don't have a strong idea of what happens in it(I'd love it if you would prove me wrong on this, because I've been wanting to read it).

So obviously the more the merrier(up to a point), but if both of you are willing and able, I've had very successful three person RPs before.

Let me go into what I expect:

I'm not a stickler for post size, and in fact I think in a lot of situations in an RP, longer posts actually make a lot less sense. So if you're wondering if reading posts and writing responses will be a whole ordeal, don't because it shouldn't be.

I'd rather have a short post that moves the story than a long post that details every aspect of your sword swing.

I'll be stricter on lore, but all that really means is that if you goof(or if I do, I don't remember everything and might forget something important) you'll have to make an edit. I'm not gonna be mad if you mix up ahab reactors and alaya vijnana systems.

If you're willing to make this a collaborative project, I'd love it if you take initiative, and I'll accept anything you include in a post(including NPC actions and important plot events) unless I have a very good reason not to. And in the latter case, we'll stop to discuss what is happening in the story so that everyone stays on the same page.

If you want to claim a name on that list, feel free. I know we haven't finalized a decision to move forward with the RP, but if there's a name or number that calls to you, say so now.

@FlappyTheSpybot@Martian

And Martian, you said you had an urge to write a mobile suit fight, but it's been a while since uou saw IBO, I'm not trying to be an ass, but remember that the mobile suit combat in IBO is pretty distinct in comparison to the other shows in the franchise. It's mostly melee combat, and there's no beam weapons to speak of. In gravity, they usually stay on the ground too. Not a lot of flying around except in space(though there will probably be a lot of the RP that takes place in deep space).

No you aren't being an ass. I did remember that fights in IBO were melee focused. I'll probably watch some fight clips to help remember how fights go. I'm also going to start looking up an image for my Gundam, and look up stuff on those demons so that I can choose which one to name my Gundam after.

Enjoy, there's a section here specifically for IBO Gundam frames. There's plenty that are just canon mobile suits, but lots of fan art options as well.

This is the one I was going to use.

Works for me. I'll lay claim to the ASW-G-21 Morax. Not sure I'll be able to find a good image, as the one I have in my head is rather... unique. A minotaur Gundam. Larger forward swept bladed horns, a hulking upper body, heavy armor and overclocked/supercharged thrusters to compensate for the added weight.

EDIT:
Though I suppose the Reincar makes for a good close approximation.

Okay, we'll try it as a link.

It's someone's custom Reincar model, I've seen others though, so that might be a good way to find a reference you like.

I'm interested as well. In my opinion IBO has the most emotional impact and is probably my favorite in the franchise.

IF this is acceptable I'd like to call dibs on this mech design for my Gundam. ASW-G-13 Beleth

Cool!

So I'm going to start working on a proper intro post, but in the mean time I leave you with this:

You are human debris. Slaves kept(illegally now, as the practice has been outlawed) as disposable mobile suit pilots aboard the Mercurial Witch(little easter egg there). The ship flies in a pirate fleet called the Jolly Rogs. Though this is a shortening of Jolly Roger, the name is pronounced with a hard G.

There are eight total human debris pilots, four free pilots, and six human debris who work in the engine room and hanger as mechanic's mates.

You've all had the Alaya Vijnana surgery twice(anyone who can't withstand two rounds is too weak even to be a slave of theirs), and pilot a rag tag selection of mobile suits(you may choose any mass produced suit that existed by the end of the series, it doesn't matter that much since we'll be swapping early on).

You are generally kept in line by starvation, and also by the threat of explosive charges in the cockpits of your mobile suit. The charge is just enough to kill a pilot instantly, without causing too much damage to the suit.

You are generally treated cruelly, but there's a woman(older girl, really) among the free mobile suit pilots who is kinder, she goes by Carrot. She used to be human debris, but "earned her freedom," as the story goes.

Her opposite number is The Bosun, the leader of the Jolly Rogs' MS fleet, who is cruel and harsh.

The captain is known as Brun(short for Brunhilde, pronounced broon), but you've barely(if ever) even seen her.

I will want to know what your original mobile suit came equipped with, though, as they might be used for spare parts later on, so it would be good to have that nailed down.

CS will be dead simple:

Name:
Appearance: Since this is anime based, use an anime or manga styled image, or else a description. Feel free to use a combination of both.
Age: don't make me regret this, but I won't set a limit. Just be prepared to justify yourself if I question it.
Background: There's a good chance they don't have much, but tell me where they came from and how they got snatched
Personality and Reputation: What are they like? What are they known for amongst the crew?

You'll need two for MS sheet, your original and the Gundam that you will receive.

Mobile Suit:
Name:
Frame:
Appearance: (a picture that fits the IBO mythos, if you please. Custom model kits are actually a great source for this)
Equipment: (keep this consistent with the lore, but with the gundam version feel free to get creative)

You have no idea how close your weapon is to the one I was gonna use lol.

The only thing I would say is that the Graze would also have an Alaya Vijnana system. Obviously that's not standard equipment for it, but the pirates would want to make use of it(that's exactly why they want disposable child soldiers, after all). I only mention this at all because you specifically listed it for the Gundam, but not the Graze, and I wanted to make sure there was no misunderstanding.

@Gisk It slipped my mind that it was something that could be installed on other suits. Plus I was basically going about the creation pretty linear, didn't see it on the equipment so it became one of those "out of sight, out of mind" things. I'm glad you pointed it out.

And which weapon you talking about? If its the Giant Spear-Sword, I had a couple of combinations I had thought off for a Gunpla game I was on before. So I could probably substitute it if it was important to your custom Gundam.

The spear, yeah.

So what I had in mind was a spear and shield in conjunction, the spear head would have a charge of fuel in it, and could either detach on command, or else be launched by thruster(though without any guidance).

The shield would have a rotating rack of spare spear heads on the inner side of it, so that it can re-arm the shaft as needed.

So yeah, spear with rocket head, a few differences in the exact execution, but very similar ideas.

You don't need to change it, I can definitely use something else.

It could be a thing where Stolas' weapon was a reimagined or an improved version of Beleth's. Not something too far out of the realm of possibility. I think that could be a nice angle to take. Just a suggestion incase you really wanted to keep the Spear weapon.
