Despite his age, Sinaaq strikes an imposing figure; he is quite tall, and a lifetime of high-level bending has gifted him with a powerful physique to match. His features are sharp and striking, and fit well with the almost perpetual devil-may-care smile that adorns his face, inspiring confidence in his fellows and unease in his foes. His eyes are a pale, piercing blue in color, easily reflecting his emotional highs and lows, and combined with his dusky complexion, readily mark him as a member of the Water Tribes. His heritage is only further proven by his tendency to braid at least a portion of his hair in the style of his people, helping contain the wild mane of umber colored hair that frames his face.

Sinaaq has always been something of a wild child. He is a proud, hot-blooded boy, driven by impulse and a desire for adventure. He considers himself brave, and often proves his valiant nature with daring, almost reckless decision making, reassured by a confidence that borders on arrogance at its worst. A prodigy at bending, he is unused to failure, and has a tendency to become frustrated when confronted with situations he is unskilled with, a problem compounded by a particularly hot temper. While he is quick to offense, he is equally quick to forgive, and it's rare that one of his outbursts isn't eventually followed up with a heartfelt apology, as he finds the idea of not making amends for his actions untenable.

Sinaaq's origin is a humble one. He came into the world hale and healthy, born to a simple, if loving couple of non-benders from the Southern Water Tribe. The day of his birth was one of great strife in the world, with a great ball of flame blazing through the sky in the early morning. The midwives claimed it was a good omen, the spirits welcoming a strong new son to the tribe. It was only when black snow began to taint the land did it become obvious just how wrong they were. The first battles of what would become the Hundred Year War raged on throughout the labor, and by the end of the day, when Sinaaq's cries filled the humble home his parents had built together, the world had been changed forever. Firelord Sozin had led his armies in the utter annihilation of the Air Nomads, and severely bloodied both the mighty Earth Kingdom and separate Water Tribes, all by channeling the fiery power of the comet which came to bear his name.

It by the mercy of isolation that Wolf Cove was spared of the worst of the war's depredations. While the comet had empowered the Fire Nation's military with the incredible power required to start a war on three fronts, that same power was fleeting, and compared to the resource rich Hu Xin provinces, the disparate tribes of the South Pole were of little interest. Kept safe by this tenuous peace, Sinaaq spent many of his early days playing with the other children of his tribe and imagining the wider world beyond his arctic home, until his bending abilities became apparent at the age of six. The boy had spooked a tiger-seal during a day's long hunt with his father, and in his frustration, ended up levitating the fleeing creature in a massive sphere of water.

It was only by his sire's shocked reaction that the seal was freed, but what the tribe lost in blubbered jerky that day, they were more than compensated for by the reveal of a waterbending prodigy.

In the years to follow, much of Sinaaq's time was dedicated to training this new, miraculous art. He labored under the many masters of the federation, learning the time honored techniques of his people with almost shocking speed. By the time he was twelve, he was already capable of besting some of his teachers, and at the age of fifteen, he had more than proved himself a master, having perfected every technique his tutors had to offer him. Always the ambitious one, he declared his intention to travel to the North, to their sister tribe, where he could put his talent to use in mastering the northern style of waterbending before joining the war efforts, which had been steadily ramping up in the waning days of his youth. He was not prepared, however, for just how involved the tribal elders expected him to become in the war to come.

On the eve of his sixteenth birthday, when he would be considered a man by the tribes, the shamans approached him. They informed him that his prodigious bending abilities were not a result of simple luck or pure talent, but rather a symptom of a far more important part of his being: his Avatarhood. They had known since he was a boy, they explained, but it was customary to keep this knowledge hidden from the Avatar until they came of age. That tradition, however, was the only one to be afforded to him. Now that he was an adult, the council of elders and the chieftain had come to agreement; he would not be allowed to travel the world to master the elements as his previous lives had done. Instead, he would assist the tribe directly, by channeling the incredible power of his Avatar spirit to lead them through a series of decisive victories at sea, thereby ending the growing threat the Fire Nation posed to his people.

Sinaaq disagreed. Children all across the world had been raised on stories of the Avatar, a beckon of hope in a time of great peril, thought to have been snuffed out during Sozin's surprise assault on the Nomads so many years prior. It was the Avatar's duty to travel the world, learn from its people, and fully realize their powers after mastering all four elements. To be used as a simple weapon—one which had no guarantee of working, given the mercurial nature of the so-called Avatar state—was not acceptable to him. So, while the elders debated how best to go about unlocking the latent potential of their newest tool, he packed away his belongings, said his goodbyes to his parents (despite their pleas for him to stay), and set off from the South Pole with his trusted companion Nanuk, intent testing just how true the shaman's words were.

If one were to honestly look at him, Yonten's origin as an Air Nomad survivor would be strikingly apparent. Most notably, the cloudy gray color of his eyes practically announce his nature to anyone who has previously met an Airbender. Thankfully this detail is obscured behind the bangs of his full head of brown hair that just reaches the top of his neck.

Physically, Yonten is small for his age. A fact his peers were all too willing to remind him of growing up. In addition, despite his improvised Airbending training, his lithe frame only contains the faintest hint of muscle, though he does possess more dexterity and flexibility than one would expect of a random bumpkin in the Earth Kingdom countryside.

Since running away from home, Yonten has taken to wearing a simple brown traveler's cloak.

Yonten is what one might expect a sheltered teenager just now venturing out into the world to be: naïve. Add more words.

Yonten had the misfortune to be a newborn when the Fire Nation launched their attack on the Air Nomads under the blaze of Sozin's Comet. During the slaughter of the Eastern Air Temple, one of the Fire Lord's soldiers, Hotaru, came across a wounded mother who begged for him to spare her son. With a change of heart, Hotaru spirited away with the two survivors. However, the woman proved to be too far gone. It was with her final breath that she gave Yonten his name. Knowing the penalty for desertion, the soldier did the only thing he could, escaping into the heart of the Earth Kingdom countryside, eventually settling as a farmer, burying his past life entirely.

To his credit, Hotaru attempted to give Yonten as normal a childhood as he could, despite the onset of the largest conflict in the history of the Four Nations. He played games with village children. He helped Old Lady Wen with chores. He even dreamed of being an Earthbender. It wasn't until Yonten first discovered his ability to Airbend as a child that Hotaru all but confined him to their home, forbidding him from practicing the art in public. Confused, Yonten followed his father's demands, for a time.

As he grew into a teenager, Yonten grew restless and resentful. Eventually, he confronted his father about his desire to become a proper bender. It was the most heated argument he'd ever had with Hotaru. The latter became so enraged, in fact, that the candles inside their home erupted with intensity. It was the first time Yonten had seen him in such a state. After years of keeping his past life a secret, Hotaru finally told Yonten how he had come into his care. Feeling thoroughly betrayed and refusing to believe that the Air Nomads were extinct, Yonten ran away from home, determined to find his 'real' family.

Instead he ran into the Avatar.

Zimi has all the typical traits of her homeland; sharp features, dark hair, and honey-colored eyes that only look blue when viewed through a computer screen. She’s rather tall among her peers, and combined with a muscular build earned from her uncle’s brutal training regimen, people tend to find her a bit intimidating. Or they would, if she wasn’t almost always smiling. Zimi’s demeanor is reflected quite bluntly in her body language; determining her mood is often as simple as observing her posture.

She typically wears the regalia of a Fire Nation soldier, but having been recently considered for the renowned Dragon Hunters, she now tends to mix her armor piecemeal with the looser, more comfortable clothing resembling their vestments. Maneuverability trumps protection when it comes to dragons, after all, and though she’s quite light on her feet she still wants every advantage she can get.

When one thinks of a Fire Nation noble, images come to mind of sinister firebenders, ruthless bureaucrats and broody, loveless family portraits. Zimi has sat for plenty of portraits, but very few of them broodily—in fact, painters have had to guesswork sterner expressions for her many times, at the behest of her uncle, when she proved incapable of holding a scowl for more than a few moments.

In truth, Zimi is just generally unfit for that image. She’s friendly, she smiles by default, she has a habit for whistling and walking with a bounce in her step. She might have taken up dancing were it not a veritable taboo in her culture, but bending has proved to be an even better outlet for expression.

Despite this, she is still a Fire National. Her upbringing has instilled in her a sense of superiority that, while it doesn’t present in as blunt or harsh a way as others, is still there. She’s ignorant of other cultures, and tends to ignore or handwave the less savory parts of her own. Naivety often sees her saying things she doesn’t mean, or making generalizations that, if she were to actually stop and think about, are largely baseless propaganda.

There’s rarely malice in anything Zimi does, but she still has to learn that intent isn’t always as important as outcome.

Born too late for peace with the other nations, born too soon for the end of the war—but born right on time to hunt dragons. On her father’s side, Zimi’s family has a history deeply tied with the air nomads and their exchange of philosophy, even having supported the building of the Fire and Air Learning Center. Conversely, her mother’s side has always been deeply entrenched in Fire Nationalism, and are still staunch allies of the Firelord.

Zimi was too young for her mother’s death to really affect her, but the effect it had on the rest of her family nearly tore it apart. With the war in full swing, her father’s already tenuous favor with the courts continued to wither. He refused to take as supportive a stance as was expected of him, and though none would go so far as to call him traitor, what respect he’d held was all but vanished.

However, her uncle Aizu’s reputation had only grown. Having stood alongside great generals like Oraso Eiko, he was already in good standing with the firelord before the war had started, and with his fervent support and decorated record afterwards, many suspected he would soon become a general himself.

Having been raised by both men, Zimi’s worldview was shaped in a constant flux between Fire nationalism and the free-spirited nature of air nomadism. Though she may have struggled with her identity, she never wanted for training. Aizu’s attempts to radicalize her fell flat, but she took eagerly to his teachings. By her early teens she had become a formidable fighter, though her bending skills were middling. Rage did not come naturally to her, and where other firebenders could channel their passion for victory, she cared about the war only peripherally.

That changed when he introduced her to the Dragon Hunters. The idea of challenging great beasts for power and glory was inspiring to her, and at the prospect that she might one day join their ranks, her aptitude for bending quickly improved.

In effort to impress upon his niece the importance of the war, Aizu has allowed her to join the Dragon Hunters on the condition that she first finish a tour in the Fire Nation’s army.
