Name: Hiro Kimura
Gender: Male
Sexuality: Queer
Age: 22
Species: Panthera Uncia (snow leopard)
Diet: Carnivore
Height: 6'2"
Weight: 177 lbs
Physique:As a feline, Hiro is lithe. Though, he's a bit underweight for his size.
Appearance:Tall and unemotive, Hiro embodies the cool indifference of a big cat with his relaxed posture and tendency to stare. Though, he carries himself with no air of pride. His eyes, which are usually half-lidded, are pale blue in color. His body is covered in dense, mottled gray fur. It is especially long on his scalp, chest, stomach, and tail. As a snow leopard, Hiro's fur possesses dark gray rosette spots. He has also inherited very large, flat paws. He finds their size rather irritating in day-to-day life. Because he can still sheath his claws within his furry mits, he keeps them extremely sharp- this is mostly out of habit and paranoia. His hair is almost mane-like in appearance, but that is mostly because he refuses to tame it.
Once a beast with true physical prowess, poor life choices have left Hiro weaker as he now tries to recover. He is visibly tired at almost all times with his droopy, almost sour face. Sometimes he lets his massive tail drag on the ground. It is almost as long as he is tall at an impressive 5'7. Though gaunt in some places under his fur, he still is a carnivore with a natural tendency to bulk up. The process has slowed due to dietary changes, but is there nonetheless. Hopefully, a healthy shine to his coat and muscular frame will return within the next coming months. He has a distinct distaste for most clothing. He is a walking insulator and does not need any more layers on his body. He will wear shorts for modesty, even in the dead of winter. Undershirts if he's going somewhere that requires it. Because of his irregularly shaped paws, Hiro only wears open-toed shoes.
Personality: In perhaps the most ironic turn of events, Hiro has found that managing his predatory instincts is quite easy if he stays in touch with his other animalistic traits. Grooming, scratching, climbing- it may be considered rude (or its plain weird), but he does it all anyway to manage stress. He has virtually no prey drive aside from the occasional urge to chase fast objects and prefers to keep it that way. He is completely comfortable around herbivores in a physical sense…though they may be wary of him due to his brooding nature. Still, Hiro secretly harbors jealousy towards herbivores. He sees being a carnivore as a huge hassle. Something about herbivores is so…infuriating. He wishes he could be as graceful and tolerated as them.
Hiro is very reserved, but is not entirely averse to social interaction. As a snow leopard, perhaps the comfort in solitude is just part of his instincts- not an uncommon trait seen in many felines. People are not his favorite, but he doesn't hate them. He puts an effort to keep in mind that his fellow living beings are just as sapient as he is. It helps keep him grounded. Empathetic, but jaded from trying to be a people pleaser, Hiro can and will be rude if the time calls for it. He has little patience and is surprisingly impulsive. He can and will leave or ignore people who bother him, as he is apathetic towards people's perception of who he is. So long as he isn't seen as some dangerous criminal, he does not care and would rather be left alone. This means that he is severely lacking in the social department. Commitment does scare him a bit- managing a relationship (platonic or not) along with his personal life seems impossible at the moment. He has no idea how to properly socialize and has settled on short flings.
Backstory:He'd always been a city boy from New York. Growing up, Hiro was quite different. As a youngster he was a shy, studious kid. He was very used to keeping himself occupied because his mother was a busy woman, and his older sister had her own life. To stave off his boredom, he often did after school extracurriculars like chess or book club. Despite being a predator cut out for sports, he always enjoyed more intellectually stimulating activities. In a way, he also felt as if it made him less intimidating. It fed into the childlike perception that he would always be the friendly, quiet big cat who people could rely on. After all, appealing to the herbivores was how carnivores were successful. This was a mindset that would die hard.
Hiro started eating meat in high school, and continued to do so throughout college. It was his sister that brought him to the black market for the first time. His teenage angst was getting to him, so she did what she could to try and keep his instincts manageable. Hiro was getting closer to adulthood, and all adult carnivores snuck a little bit of meat every so often to keep themselves sane. He was no different. Perhaps because of his early exposure to it, he never felt any real moral issues with consuming herbivore meat. It was a necessity, and it wasn't like he was killing anybody for it. Nobody was
actually getting killed, it was just the natural way of things. At least, that was how Hiro reasoned with it as a teenager.
It was in his late teens did the snow leopard finally start coming out of his shell. He was a teacher's pet throughout his academic career, as he needed good grades to qualify for a scholarship to go to college. He knew his mother couldn't afford to send him without it. Once he did make the scholarship, he relaxed a bit before the semester started making friends- he was surprisingly popular amongst his peers. This was probably the most happy period of his life. He longs for things to be simple like that again.
Hiro started college with a hectic but strong start. He enjoyed the newfound independence and was actually growing a social life. Unfortunately, this would lead to his downfall. He got too close to his roommate that was destined to drag him down with him. Soon enough, Hiro found himself getting pulled into all sorts of back-alley deals in the black market. His scholarship would also be revoked after his second semester due to drug-related charges. Now in debt and with a record, he dropped out at age 19 to pursue work to pay off what he could- and maybe fund a few unhealthy habits he picked up along the way.
It was a downward spiral until he was about 21. Hiro spent his time being spiteful to the world and joining a gang of ruffians. Though, they were less of a gang and more of a syndicate that only seemed to grow in power with each passing day. Hiro didn’t bother much with the semantics of it, but they paid him well to get his hands dirty. He’d only just gotten used to the feeling of beating people in back allies when he decided to stop. It was part of why he stopped, actually. That, and the absolute shiver that ran down his spine the first time he snapped a person’s neck. It was some tough guy who was just as much of a scumbag as him. He had an empathetic epiphany at that moment. Without a word, he turned around and left.
Hiro slunk in the shadows. Even now he keeps a low profile, hoping nobody from that old gang bothers with trying to drag him back. He has been back to university in EU to pursue computer science, resuming where he left off and is now in the midst of his second year of schooling. He is anxious, the work is overwhelming, and quitting meat is making him lethargic. Nonetheless, he feels…somewhat optimistic.
