@Lucky No, no. It's fine. I won't go the monk path as I cannot say I remember how to play one.

Due to Cami-Cat (Life of a Bard) and "1 for All", I'll try a bard. Last time I played one the campaign got out of control (we all died by angering the DM, long story) before I could even reach level 5. I've also got a background story half-thought out for her/him/them, so, there's that.

@Lucky Since I can't find a stat block for shields, how much damage can one do? (also my AC is 19) (14+2 dex+1 racial mod+2 shield) also mind shooting me a PM to work out a rumor and background stuff?

@Timemaster Alright, well whatever you end up with, I'm sure will be a ton of fun!

@Dark Cloud D&D5e doesn't have stats for shields besides the fact that they increase AC by 2. RAW, there are no stats for using them offensively so they would be an improvised weapon (1d4 bludgeoning), but I'd allow you to use your proficiency bonus to hit since technically you're proficient in using them and of course the strength bonus for damage. As an action only, though, they would not be considered Light for a bonus action attack.

As much as I'm interested to know your background/rumor ideas, I'll ask for you to hold onto those until I put up the OOC.

To clarify with everyone, a character sheet made through dndbeyond is not necessary for applications to be approved. I'll be judging RPG character sheets based off their contents, having a dndbeyond sheet that I can inspect mechanically is just a plus.

@Dog Standard Array or Point Buy is acceptable. Options like that are clarified in my dndbeyond campaign link.

@Lucky I do have a question about the history of Eiden. When was the last war or the most historic battle fought? It might help me decide how old Myrm is. I imagine he is old in my mind just don't know how old. He was built to serve as an infantryman to shield others and protect (I'm using the Soldier background btw). I decided to not take gaming set proficiency because it doesn't make sense.

There are a few small ongoing wars currently. Than'dyr (starting country) is currently NOT at war. The thing about wars is that they have to be quick, because they are too costly to wage in a world with dangers like the Mist.

To be more specific for your Warforged, the official name for the race would be a misnomer because they were actually designed to navigate the Mist in my setting; the experiment was largely unsuccessful. Because of the magical engineering that went into them, these "Mistforged" realized their sapience and briefly fought for their independence. They were granted rights within months, in order to keep loss of life and property down.

@Lucky That clears that up, in what era were the Misnomer built and by whom?

So Warforged are a relatively recent attempt, I'd say in the last twelve years. So at most, twelve years old. Of course, they don't really "mature" in the same sense organics do.

I just wanted to voice my interest in this. I've already created a very basic character which I'll likely edit fairly heavily.

I am wondering if this is going to be a full TTRPG experience or whether you're going to lean into the 5e system as you need.

My intention is to keep this as RP focused as possible and to follow 5e rules for settling abilities, spells, skills, etc. Let it work for me, you know? Plus I can keep track of inventory, health, and important things.

@Dark Cloud Everything looks fine. RAW, wielding two shields doesn't stack AC benefit btw. So you'd get no bonus from having two equipped for any reason. I don't have any plans to homebrew that would facilitate what you may be going for.

@Lucky They aren't stacking, his AC is 14 from the scale mail, +2 dex, +1 racial and +2 shield for a total of 19. No worries I know only one shield bonus applies. He just wields two shields.

So no worries I'm not going for some shield wall build, at most I'll likely take Battle Master for the defensive maneuvers as I'm just going for a build that focuses on protection.

What do you recommend, @Lucky, in terms of bardic college? I know some of them only work well with certain campaigns (College of Intrigue for example).

Currently thinking about Creation or Eloquence.

@Timemaster Depends on what you're going for. They're all valid and have different flavors. Did you have something particular in mind in terms of flavor?

Question: Are we using hard rules for AC or merely adapting them to our purposes? I ask as I hate how current 5e handles armor class. I rather have AC have some form of damage reduction than full-on damage avoidance. It never makes sense to me that you merely just ignore a good ol' beating. I get what the designers for 5e were trying to do - streamlining and building they had in 4e. But hell, I loved the hellish logistical number crunching of past editions.

And while I'm at it, will be there a bigger focus on the non-combat portions? You know, hungry, sicknesses, and the soul-crushing reality of economics before industrialization that caused base metals (especially iron) to be quite high in price. Of course, not as extremely high as the myth of people burning houses down to get iron nails due to the interpretation of a Virginia law in the 1640s...Ah, never mind. I think you get the gist of it.

@Dog I'm using 5e rules as written with very few exceptions -- homebrew rules that usually add to the game rather than detract or change. That applies to AC. Meet to beat, as it goes. Otherwise the defender successfully blocked or dodged your attack. There are already damage resistances and invulnerabilities, as well as damage threshold (where you must do minimum x damage to deal damage at all), though those are usually for objects or structures.

For uneventful regular travel, we'll just account for supplies such as rations or scavenging. Where travel is intended to be the focus of storytelling and mechanics, we'll start to tracks things a little more meticulously. In a world of high magic, I tend to say that resources aren't terribly difficult to acquire as long as you don't just ignore it all or make really bad decisions.
