History: Michael was born in the North Blue and grew up in an orphanage on a large island. His earliest memories being at the orphanage, he has no idea whom is family is or where he comes from.

Around the age of 7 he worked his way into a small gang of boys thinking it was the coolest thing in the world. Being as young as he was he didnt do much gang stuff, instead they took advantage of his ability to move around and gather information without drawing attention to himself. He just got to associate himself with them and the benefits that came with it.

Eventually he became disillusioned with what it meant to be in a gang, with the things his 'brothers' did. After many long nights of doing his best to find ways to rationalize his work he could no longer keep on ignoring the problem. Michael confronted the gang leader and having only the moral high ground and not the physical high ground, was beaten within inches of his life. They dumped his body and left him for dead but he was found by a doctor? and nursed back to health.

When healthy again Michael joined a Youth Marine program to work to take down his childhood gang. In final confrontation with the gang at its height, the gang takes many people on the island as hostages stalling the efforts of the Marines. Michael disobeying orders, blitzes the compound the gang was holed up in. Freeing many marines and citizens in the process. He confronts the gang leader again, after many times over the years and takes him down. Finally in Michael's mind setting things right.

Regarded as a small marine hero of the North Blue, Michael was recruited to an unorthodox captains marine crew. The captain took special interest in Michael's potential and began to train and push Michael to his limits. To this day Michael still serves on this unique marine crew now as its vie-captain and primary infiltrator.

Personality: Stern but caring like a father. Driven by strong moral compass. Still struggles with the gap between right and legal. He cant seem to stay in place for long earning him his moniker, Wandering Monarch, after the migrating butterflies. This also tends to lead people to believe hes a bit a flakey person, though he wanders often hes usually doing something productive or important in the process. He does not like idle time.

Fighting Style: Float and Sting is what he calls it. By manipulating his bodys density he can make himself incredibly light and maneuverable and then increase his density to throw weight behind a punch or block. Theoretically he can decrease his density to the extent he can pass his molecules through others and increase it to the extent at which hes nigh unmovable.

History: Merrick grew up in South of the West Blue, on a cold island packed with dense forest. A forest which was the center of life for the people that called the island home. It provided food and lumber, the latter of which was the islands primary export and way to get goods. As a kid, Merrick was what you would call a bookworm, being so far south the island was subject to snow storms often, and he would find himself with naught to do but read when he was young and stuck inside. This made Merrick and incredibly inquisitive kid, as he asked to learn more about the places and stories he read about, his family managed to get a hold of more and more books.

He learned a lot from his books, wonderful things but also terrible things, and as he got older he sought out more knowledge about the real world. He found an encyclopedia volume that contained knowledge about a small section of the Grand Line, it was unlike anything he had ever read, but the book and those he asked insisted the grand line was a a real place. Full of these very fantastical but real and terrifying wonders. He immediately found himself wanting to know more, to see more. He reached out adn asked around for more books like the one he had, but there didn't seem to be any. When he accepted there weren't any to be had in the West Blue he vowed to write his own, a complete collection detailing the Grand Line.

As a young man Merrick began to take note of the injustices on his island in his village. They grew poorer by the year, more and more shut out from the outside world. According to the officials running the docks the lumber just wasnt worth as much any more, but that the market would definitely pick up next season. They were told this for several years until finally most people just stopped asking. Merrick being the guy he was, didnt stop asking questions. Just like when he was a kid he was curious and patient and persistent. This got him in trouble into the past and it definitely got him into trouble now.

Merrick found out the dock officials had been pocketing increasing amounts of money over they years, stealing from the villagers. So he did the only logical thing and gathered a group of young lumberjacks and threw them off the island. Redistributing as much lost goods back tot he people as they could. The victory though was short lived as Marines soon showed up to the island looking for Merrick. He went along unable to put up much fight against an entire crew of marines.

While in transit a mafia family ship attacked the marines, and Merrick was able to get free. They had attacked to free another prisoner on board, a member of their family. Seeing his opportunity he begged the mafia to help him protect his home from being taken advantage of again. They agreed on a deal that they would claim his home island and protect it is as their own if he would offer his service to the family for 10 years, and he did just that. Ten years that rewarded him just as much as it did the family. They taught him how to look after himself and how to fight. They showed him the nuances of the law and what it meant to be free. After those ten years he left his family to achieve his dream to travel the Grand Line and write the Grand Line Encyclopedia, and to do that he would become a pirate like many before him.
