Hello, travelers and welcome to The Rift! For those who missed the interest check, Rift Warriors is an isekai (other world) story about a group of gamers who find themselves sucked into a fighting game and are semi-transformed into the fighters they play as. You can find the basic plot summary and world information down below. I've also attached a character sheet to the bottom of this post so you can apply and start making characters right away! Can't wait to get this started!

The Story

The year is 2045, and legendary video game developer Ryuichi Masada is set to announce his latest project. The world loses it's mind when he reveals Rift Warriors X - the latest entry in his trademark fighting game series Rift Warriors - only to be stunned in shock when Masada decalres that X will not only be the final entry in the series, but he's only produced FIVE copies of the game which will be distributed to the top five Rift Warriors IX players worldwide in a few months time. What followed was a mad dash by players across the globe to climb the competitive ladder in the hopes of reaching the top five and becoming a candidate for earning this new game.

When the digital dust settled, the five players were recognized and each received a copy of Rift Warriors X. However, when they started up the game, they discovered there were no fighters, only blank slates on the character selection screen. Suddenly, each of the players are sucked into their respective gaming consoles and wake up only to find themselves in the world of Rift Warriors! Somehow, the players have been turned into the five characters they mained when they battled in the ranks to win their copies of X. What has caused this to occur? How will they escape? What is the secret of Rift Warriors X? Apply to join and find out!

Rift Warriors

Ever wonder what it would be like if various characters from across history could battle it out? Well that's what Ryuichi Masada dreamed about ever since he was in grade school. Upon graduating and joining up with a fledgling game company, Okami Sun Games, Masada created the first ever Rift Warriors game. Rift Warriors was a beat'em-up fighting game where fictional characters from across time were sucked into a pocket dimension known only as The Rift. When inside, they were tasked by a strange Entity known as "The Messenger" to battle against the other summoned warriors and earn their way home. To make things more 'interesting' The Messenger granted each warrior summoned a unique set of superhuman abilities depending on the era in which they were summoned and attuned to their unique characteristics.

With each passing sequel, more warriors would find themselves being dragged into The Rift. As the series went on, the lore behind The world of The Rift as well as the enigmatic Messenger would grow as well. However, the lore that was revealed was rarely - if ever - enough to explain the plot of the games, often leaving FNAF-sized debates going on in various internet forums. With the announcement of Rift Warriors X, Masada claimed that "all will be revealed" which led many to believe this would be the game that finally gave a clear answer as to what the real story of Rift Warriors actually was. That made the limited release and subsequent competition all the more surprising when it happened.

Requirements for Players

So for this rp you will be making two characters. The first will be your character. This is the player who became one of the top 5 Right Warriors IX players in the real world. In addition, you will be making a secind character who will serve as your player's 'main' in the game world. This character can be from any point in human history, and will have unique abilities based on their time period. (For example, a viking character may have the ability to manipulate ice and snow, or a Cold-War Russian soldier could manifest nuclear bombs or weaponize radiation). Ideally, the Rift Warriors character would be a fictional person from whatever time period you choose, BUT I'm open to the possibility of non-human characters so long as you check with me first before submitting it. Outside of that, you are free to develop the character's backstory and powers as much as you wish. Just don't make them overly broken or the players would be screaming at the devs for not fixing an unbalanced character.

As for posts, I'd ideally like at least two paragraphs per post on this one to keep the story moving since this one is going to be exposition heavy at the start, but that's just a guideline. With that being said, the character sheet outline is posted below. Let's have some fun, and I'll see you in The Rift!

I have plenty of ideas for the player character, I’m just not sure what to do with the Rift Warriors character.

@Crimson Flame My advice is pick a time period you like (past or future) and create a character around it. The character I used in my example on the interest check was a ronin from the Sengoku period (a time when conventional weapons were phased out in favor of firearms).

@Nyahahameha Can I ask what Queen Morag's regular ultimate is, if not the castle titan? Also, I love the idea of a heavy armor character using portals to fight. You usually expect that with light/speedy fighters like ninjas so it's a welcome change here!

@TheNoCoKid I was thinking a full screen cavalry stampede. Obviously it would be blockable, but since I imagine blocking would be the only way to avoid it, it wouldn't do any chip damage. It was probably a way more bullshit attack during her first phase boss fight. Also, castle titan? Now I want her castle to be able to transform into a mecha as well. It probably wouldn't be used in the games themselves but it would give Marie one more cool thing to make use of in the world.

Also, really glad you like the idea! :D I'm honestly in love with it, too. I mainly wanted to combine a slow heavy fighter with a partner summoner, and portals kind of fit theme of "widespread influence of royalty", it just made sense she'd also be able to teleport herself around.

Any chance this RP will have a Discord server/PM group set up? I can't stop thinking about this RP or my character and I want to gush about it with people in real time. XD

@Nyahahameha Haha. I named it that because in my mind, I pictured the interlocking soldiers and shields creating a castle-like mech anyways.

Honestly, you could probably make it a Smash Bros. Ryu sort of ultimate where you can choose between the more “offensive” charge formation or the “defensive” titan formation. Like how a queen would command her armies?

Good chance I’ll be making a discord since I’m planning on making this one more immersive than my past entries and it’s non-fandom work.

@TheNoCoKid You're imagining it exactly correctly. Full body Tower shields forming the outer armor of the titan, soldiers lining up their zweihanders to make the giant swords, and there are cavalry units at the bottom to give the thing mobility. The shieldmen comprising the chest are hiding crossbowmen behind them, so it can open up and fire in front of it.

That sounds cool, but I dunno if I could give up having the second ult be activated through doing a horn call with her taunt, though. I pictured that not even being something listed in her commands, it's just something players of VII figured out by using the taunt to mimic the horn call she did during the phase transition cutscene of VI. And I think it would be bad to have all her supers and her regular ult be activated that way, too, that would make her nearly unusable since the taunt doesn't pause the action and the calls would take longer to input than regular commands. XD

Player Name: Daniel “Danny” Davis

Age: 18

Personality: Danny is something of a shy introvert. The fact that he was bullied a lot when he was younger. He prefers to keep to himself, or at the very least small groups. He tries hard to be friendly, if only to get people to like him so he won’t be bullied anymore, but a lot of the times ends up just being awkward. He usually perks up when the conversation goes in a direction he’s interested in. When he’s interested in the subject matter, then he keeps talking and talking.

He gets nervous very easily. He tries to hide that by making jokes and being witty, but all that seems to do is make people want to punch him. He really wants to be brave and cool, but he finds being that kind of person difficult. He’s shy and self conscious, and gets embarrassed when he gets any kind of attention good or bad. He gets particularly nervous around guys he happens to find attractive. At that point, he starts stammering. He’s not good at flirting.

He’s in many ways a complete geek. He loves science, reads a lot, loves computers and the Internet, enjoys playing video games. He also likes cute things, and the color pink. He has a small collection of plushies at home. It was something he was bullied for in the past. He’s not very good at sports either.

Backstory: David and Denise Davis gave birth to a healthy baby boy named Daniel. They had a difficult time having a baby, so when they finally had Danny, he was their miracle baby. They cherished him, and wanted to do their best to give him every advantage in life.

Growing up, Danny discovered he was rather intelligent. He did very well academically. Science was his favorite subject. However, he was also introverted and quiet and did not do well socially. He was often picked on by other kids because of it. Not helping the matter was the fact that he liked the color pink as well cute things, and other stuff that was stereotypically girly. He preferred to play with Barbies and stuffed animals while other boys liked playing with Hot Wheels and Football. He also wasn’t very good at sports. While he had supportive parents at home, he had a difficult time making friends at school.

His most consistent bully is a boy named Skyler. At one point, Danny had a crush on him. Danny worked up the nerve to confess his feelings. Of course, those feelings were not mutual. Skyler laughed in his face, and outed him to the whole school. It was embarrassing, and made going to school much more difficult. Now Skyler picked on him regularly. Things often escalated to violence for trivial reasons, like if he got a better grade than him on an exam. He didn’t dare tell anyone. Things only got worse when you snitched.

He endured it for years, and did his best to get by. He wanted to be cool, brave, and popular. No matter how hard he tries, he always has trouble pulling it off. The only time he could have any kind of confidence is when they play Rift Warriors. He chose to play as The Spartan because he was a hot shirtless man, as well as being all of the things Danny wished he could be in real life. He was also interested in Greek Mythology. He had been playing Rift Warriors since the first one came out. He never shared it with any of the people he went to school with because as soon as it came out that he liked something, that thing would immediately become uncool. Instead, he played anonymously against online players. He sucked at first, but gradually got better over time. never expected to actually be competitive about it, he just played for fun. When he heard about Rift Warriors V, and the competition involved, he knew he had to be one of those players to get their hands on a copy. With The Spartan as his main, he climbed up the Leaderboards, and became one of the top 5 players in the world.

Rift Warrior Character: The Spartan

Rift Warrior Faceclaim:

Debut: This character has been around since Rift Warriors I

Rift Warrior Backstory: The Spartan is a mysterious man from Ancient Greece. He is a soldier in the Spartan army, and fought against the invading Roman army. Not much is known about him, except that he is an orphan raised since childhood to be a soldier. He was pulled into the Rift, and now has to fight his way back home.

Right Warrior Powers: The Spartan has access to a variety of weapons. Each one of then has an ability based on a different Greek God.

Sword of Zeus: An electrified sword that can summon large shockwaves of lightning.

Athena’s Shield: Used to protect against some enemy attacks. Can also be used to bash enemy skulls! It can sometimes turn enemies to stone for a short time

Eros Bow: Can fire arrows with heart shaped tips, that have a chance to cause an opponent to become infatuated with The Spartan, and not attack him, and possibly attack other enemies instead.

Ares War Hammer: Deals fiery elemental damage to multiple opponents when he slams the ground with it.

Helmet of Hades: When activated, it can temporarily make The Spartan invisible to opponents.

Trident of Poseidon: Can summon tidal waves that deal watery damage, and knockback.

Demeter’s Spear: A wooden spear that causes plants to slowly sprout from a wound inflicted with it, causing chip damage over time.

Staff of Hermes: Can summon a small tailwind that makes The Spartan faster.

Lyre of Apollo: Playing a song on this lyre can heal the wounds of allies within range.

Artemis’ Hunting Knife: A knife that can channel concentrated moonlight, and temporarily leaves foes blind.

The Spartan also has a Rage meter that makes his attacks stronger when the meter fills up.

As for The Spartan, I like your foundation, but I think you can clean up the powers section a bit. Maybe… his weapons are imbued with elemental attacks pertaining to the Greek gods? (Lighting sword=Zeus, Invisibility Helmet=Hades, Water-based shield (knock back)=Poseidon?)

What do you mean focus on his Rift Warriors experience though?

@Crimson Flame I mean like his experience with the game and the competition for top. Becoming top 5 in the world at anything is kind of a huge deal. You low key gloss over it to set up the relationship backstory. Nothing wrong with it, but it’s not necessarily the main focus of the story if that makes sense?

It looks like his shield already has a link to the Gorgons vis a vis Perseus' mirror, so that should work in place of Poseidon. It looks like The Spartan is shaping up to be a status effect focused fighter. I think the real outlier is the hammer. It would make sense if its use was doing more damage against enemies inflicted with effects from the other weapons.

The Shield was originally going to turn enemies to stone for a short period of time. Then I realized this is a Fighting game, meaning we’d probably be fighting each other not NPCs, and thought that was OP.

Yeeah, probably a good decision, actually. I figured since NoCo hadn't mentioned it, it wasn't an issue. I hope the idea for the hammer is still useful, though.

@Crimson Flame there will be a mix of PvP and NPC fighting. Depends on where you guys take the story.

Lol if Marie shows up, looks around, realizes who she's dressed as, goes full cosplayer mode and declares her intent to kick the ass of everyone there, PVP immediately. XD
