I just picked up American Gods by Neil Gaiman. I tried a few episodes of the show and then bailed, but the concept is very interesting and I am hoping the book provides something much more enticing.

I don't think I've read an actual physical book since high school. (No, textbooks don't count) the closest thing I can think of is a light novel I read online called Purple Haze Feedback by Kohei Kadono, which is basically professionally written fanfiction for Jojo Part 5.

Interesting. I have to admit, I prefer physical, tangible books when it comes to reading. A screen is obviously a necessity for the type of writing we do on here, but you'll never catch me reading a book off of a tablet or kindle.

There's just a particular form of serenity and welcomed escape when you set some time aside to find your nook and jump into a book.

Last book I read was Black Elk Speaks by John Gneisenau Neihardt.

Interesting book. It's basically a guy who met an old Native American wiseman who decided to use him as a conduit to tell his story. Ended up having a few of his friends who had been there for some of the crazy stuff come by to tell their stories too.

These were oooooold ass dudes when it was written, and it was written in 1932 so it's a cool look at the past. Do recommend if that's the sort of thing you're interested in.

I recently got myself a library card and read through a few graphic novels. So I have the potential to get my hands on some more material. But I don't have too many recommendations. Since I'm still struggling to find something particularly engrossing myself.

Currently, I am reading 1Q84 by Haruki Murakami. I recently read The Hard Boiled Wonderland and the End of the World and The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle. I am enjoying 1Q84 more than the other two, but I have skipped several erotic parts of the book. So far, I highly recommend it. It’s a good book with moral dilemmas that circle around sexual abuse of women (and girls) and religious cults while also incorporating an intriguing romance. I have not yet once felt bored with the novel, despite many mundane details.

I also started re-reading Lord of the Rings last night. It’s just as enjoyable if not more so than the last time I read it. (This re-reading is partially inspired by The Rings of Power.) Obviously, this is recommended. The only person I know who wouldn’t recommend this series is Hayao Miyazaki. But he’s Hayao Miyazaki, so he gets a pass.

On the back burner, several of the books that I am reading are The Unconsoled by Kazuo Ishiguro, Death by Water by Kenzaburo Oe, The Guest Book by Sarah Blake, and Turning Point by Hayao Miyazaki. I am not too terribly far into these books, but they are interesting and thought provoking. (In fact, The Guest Book pops into my mind periodically when I contemplate parenting my children.) Needless to say, I can’t wait to finish them.
