"I'm more than just some wandering soul... aren't I?"
Full Name: Renata Delarosa
Age: 16
Favorite Color: Grey-blue
Favorite Subject: History, she likes to learn about the ancient legends of the Paldea region, and the mysteries surrounding Area Zero.
Favorite Teacher: Tyme, despite her teaching math and not history. Renata likes her friendly demeanour, thinks it's cool that she was once a gym leader, and has a great deal of admiration for her sister Ryme.
Appearance: Renata stands at 5'5", with dark skin and white hair (which is naturally black, but she dyes it because Ryme of RIP is her idol). She likes to dress casually, in mostly black, grey and white - she isn't a fan of bright colours. When in uniform, she still wears her beanie, and if she's out in cold weather, she wears her hoodie over her school shirt.
Personality: For the most part, Renata is a quiet person. Not exactly shy, but prefers to observe situations rather than be at the centre of them. Having experienced bullying in the past, she tends to be wary of new people, although if they prove themselves trustworthy, she'll slowly open up to them and be more cheerful. She has a sneaky side, though, and those who befriend her will have to put up with the occasional harmless prank. Sometimes she does this in an attempt to diffuse awkwardness, ironically making things even more awkward in the process.
Her lifelong experience with ghost types and funerals mean some things that would disturb the average person are perfectly normal for her. As such, she sometimes casually says things that creep people out, even if she doesn't mean to.
Despite this, and her prank-pulling tendencies often causing more annoyance than intended, Renata is good at picking up when someone's truly unhappy, no matter how well they try to hide it. Having grown up in a cemetery, she's developed a high level of compassion, and does what she can to comfort those who are suffering. She refuses to tolerate cruelty, not just because she's experienced it, but because there's already too much misery in the world.
While she's normally calm, there's one thing that brings out a more excitable side: concerts. She's a big fan of rap music, particularly MC Ryme. As well as enjoying her works, Renata admires how Ryme popularises and normalises the ghost type.
Backstory: Renata was born in Montenevera to two cemetery supervisors. Growing up, the graveyard she called home was a normal part of life. She'd jump out from behind gravestones at people exploring the place in search of thrills, and play with the Greavards who'd hang around the area. Despite it seeming like a gloomy place, it was in fact full of warmth and friendliness, the graveyard staff being so close-knit by their tough jobs as to be like family.
Sadly, not everyone realised this, particularly some of her childhood peers. When she invited friends over, and told them where she lived, they'd get uncomfortable and back out. She developed a reputation as "that weird spooky kid", and the more withdrawn she became as a result, the worse the bullying grew.
Luckily, throughout this, she retained a steadfast friend. A Greavard in the cemetery became particularly attached to her, so she took in the Pokemon, naming her Maera. As much as she loved her new companion, however, her family recognised she needed more. A place where she could be comfortable around people her age. By this point, ghosts were viewed in a more positive light thanks to Ryme taking over as Montenevera's gym leader, but the schoolyard taunts still persisted. Hence, they recommended Papas Academy to her, a school that in recent years had done what many fail to do - crack down on bullying.
Renata jumped at the chance, not just because of the staff's zero tolerance policy towards mistreatment, but because the Treaure Hunt intrigued her. The academy would encourage people to make their way in the world, allowing her to be more than just the freaky kid. The question was, though, how would she go about it? Become a champion? Investigate into legends? Explore the entire region? She still doesn't know what her "treasure" is, but she's ready to go out and search for it.
Pokémon:
Pokémon: Greavard Nickname: Maera Personality: Playful and energetic, Maera adores companionship. However, when she gets overexcited, she sometimes accidentally drains a little vitality from people. Not enough to cause serious harm, but enough to make them weak and tired. Ability: Pickup
Pokémon: Bramblin Nickname: Briar Personality: A chill and curious Pokemon who loves exploring. He has no particular goal, he just wants to see as much of the region as possible. Ability: Wind Rider
Pokémon: Gastly Nickname: Nox Personality: Despite being of a species known for scaring people, Nox is surprisingly timid. She tries to be frightening, but ends up getting scared easily herself. Even so, she becomes highly protective if Renata or a teammate is faced with a genuine threat. Ability: Levitate
Quirks:
As mentioned before, a big Ryme fan. She tends to pester Tyme for concert tickets.
Having lived in the mountains for most of her life, she doesn't like extremely hot weather.
Appearance: Adam is tall and muscular, standing at about 6’3”. He has a boyish face though he still possesses a firm jaw, with a small nose, and large, expressive almond shaped eyes, which are a light shade of green. He'll often wear red tinted sunglasses. He keeps his short red hair spiky using a good amount of hair gel. Only enough to keep it's shape, but not so much that anyone who may want to run their fingers through his hair hurt themselves. He was born with lightly tanned skin, not pale, but not bronzed either, that is maintained by spending a lot of time outside in the sun. He is an athletic boy, and is in good shape. He has a toned physique, that he got from years of being active. He is quite proud of this, and likes to show it off by wearing tight tank tops a lot. He has a red swirling flame sleeve tattoo covering his left arm. He got it literally the day he turned 18.
Adam's clothing choices vary. He doesn't really have any sense of style, and just like to wear things that he thinks look cool. His favorite color is red, so he tends to wear that a lot. He does however hate the school uniform. He wears the shirt untucked, and unbuttoned. He also wears the tie tied loosely. He wears a red leather vest, with an orange fire symbol embroidered on the back of it. He also wears a red bandanna wrapped around his forehead. He chooses to wear the shorts, because he likes shorts. He has several piercings in his ears, and in each hole, he wears a stud earring in either black or red. His hands are covered with red, studded fingerless gloves.
Personality: Adam is a rash, hotheaded young man who has trouble sitting still. He's impatient, and prefers to actually do things, as opposed to sitting there reading about other people doing things. As such, book smarts aren't really his forte. However, he is capable at thinking quick on his feet, He is brave, sometimes recklessly so, and he enjoys the outdoors and physical activities, he is also physically strong because of those activities. Adam is the type of guy that likes to shoot first, and ask questions later, and not give a damn about the consequences. Nothing ever got done just sitting there thinking about stuff.
Often immature and mischievous, he disregards rules, and can often be a troublemaker. He can also be very blunt, and isn't one to sugarcoat things, which usually ends up offending people. When it comes to voicing his opinions, he's not exactly the most polite person, often speaking his mind and never hesitating to shoot down anyone for any number of reasons. He speaks in a crude manner, and has a tendency to swear a lot. He has no problems breaking the rules in order to get things done. Despite his lean appearance, Adam has a big appetite, and he likes to eat a lot. He's not picky, about the foods he eats, and is willing to try anything once. He is lucky enough to have a high metabolism so that he doesn't get chubby easily, plus he excercises a lot anyway. His willingness to try anything extends beyond food, and likes to experiment in other activities, as long as they're exciting to him. He's very competitive, and hates to lose. He is not afraid to resort to dirty tactics if it means a victory. He is an arrogant winner, as well as a sore loser. Often coming to blows with people he has lost to.
At times, he is lazy, and he often procrastinates to get work done. Despite this, he is very stubborn, and once he's set his mind on something, he will stop at nothing to achieve his goal. He is very confident in himself. He thinks he is awesome, and he likes to show off his strength. So much so, that he often comes across as arrogant, he has a tendency to brag about his accomplishments, and he often underestimates others and overestimates himself. It is not difficult to get him mad, and he will not hesitate to hurt people verbally and/or physically if he is provoked enough. If one is patient with him, and he comes to respect someone, they will find he is one of the most loyal friend you could ever ask for. He will stick by you, and defend you no matter what. Although, he will still laugh at you if you did something stupid.
He is a big flirt, and he frequently hits on males and females he finds attractive. There is usually a lot of touching involved in his flirting. Even though he loves hot guys and girls, he isn't always polite in his interactions with them. He gets a laugh out of teasing statight guys, and making them uncomfortable. He isn't exactly serious about looking for a relationship, and his flirtations are mostly him playing around. He also likes playing games, and he can often be found at the game arcades, casinos, and bars spending a lot of money to play, and gambling it to make more money. Besides playing in the casinos, his favorite pastimes are playing any kind of sport that lets him show off, and winning. He is a nicknamer, and he often gives nicknames to new people he meets. Adam generally tries to keep an optimistic attitude about things. After all, being angsty all the time isn't going to accomplish anything. There are several types of people he can't stand. Mostly rich snobs, stoic loners, annoying know-it-alls, and generally anyone he perceives as thinking they are better than him. He purposefully tries to irritate these kinds of people when he meets them, to get a reaction out of them. His biggest insecurity is feeling like he's not good enough, and that he doesn't belong anywhere. He hates being reminded of this fact, and it is the reason why he lashes out when he's upset. All in all, though hotblooded, Adam is a cheerful young man, and he's a loyal friend to those willing to put up with his antics.
Backstory: Adam was born to a wealthy upper-class family in the Kanto region. AdamSince birth, Adam was expected to live up to the family name, and behave a certain way. Adam just wasn't comfortable with this.As a child, Adam was a bit troublesome. Aside from, academics were not his forte. He didn't get good grades, he often got into trouble with his teachers for speaking his mind more than he should, and his parents got a lot of complaints about his behavior which caused them quite a bit of concern. While he may have gotten into trouble a lot, he found it easy to make friends due to his outgoing personality.
At some point, the family moved to Paldea. His parents enrolled him into the Papas Academy. They thought being in a more structured environment would be good for the boy, as they hoped it would calm him down a bit. He was upset at first. He had a life back home, and he hated being plucked from it against his will.
Adam decided to rebel by misbehaving more than he usually does, with the hope that they would kick him out. His grades got even worse than before due to not even bothering to study, and he mouthed off to the teachers very often, and broke many of the school's policies. His parents got a lot of complaints about his behavior, and he was often disciplined harshly, not that this mattered to him.
After being there for a a while, Adam eventually accepted that he was going to be stuck there until he graduated and no amount of rebeling was going to get him out. Most of the other students thought he wouldn't get very far in life, and Adam was determined to prove them wrong. It helped that his parents bribed him to do better by giving him his own Pokemon, a Charmander. He started studying, and doing much better in his classes. However, his behavior still hadn't changed. He still got into trouble frequently for talking back to teachers when he didn’t agree with something.
Now, on his final year, Adam is determined to find his treasure. He wants to do the Gym Challenge, and become a Champion. But everyone in school wants that! He wants his own treasure.

Add more as you catch them
Quirks: His favorite class is battle studies, but he also secretly enjoys art class.
He also secretly enjoys cute things. Don’t tell anyone, it would ruin his reputation.
Likes hot weather, but finds the cold unbearable, and becomes cranky.
Relationships: What your character thinks about the other characters in the RP. You can leave this section blank for now, and fill it in as you go. You are also welcome to discuss with members out of character as to whether or not your characters know each other prior to the start of the RP.
Favorite Teacher: "Officially", Hassel, due to his philosophies on art and his connections to the other Elite Four members. Actually Dendra, even if she's somewhat embarrassed to admit it.
Appearance: Rhea is short (only around 5') and slim, having a somewhat androgynous look to her. She always wears her jacket over her uniform, and the back is covered in patches for various bands and musicians (Piers, Roxie, Ryuki and surprisingly Ryme are all represented), as well as a few Team Yell ones too.
Personality: Rhea doesn't talk much, with many finding her somewhat unapproachable. She doesn't exactly hate other people, she's just not very good at socializing and often finds herself on her own. Those that manage to get her to open up find her to be rather deadpan and sarcastic but ultimately a good person... Just a really sarcastic one. She's a lot more enthusiastic when talking about music, however, and if given the chance will talk your ears off about her favourite bands, and the history of Spikemuth's punk scene, and the differences between Galarian punk and Unovan punk, and maybe mention that whilst she doesn't usually listen to rap she's a fan of Ryme, and...
...Eventually she'll realize what she's doing, and suddenly become very quiet out of embarrassment. But at least it's not the most embarrassing thing she can talk about, she figures, so it's not that bad.
Rhea absolutely idolizes Rika of the Elite Four, considering her the coolest trainer in the world and wishing to be more like her. Like music, this is another subject she will talk on end about if pressed, only she'll get even more embarrassed when she realizes what she's doing with this particular subject.
Backstory: Originally from Spikemuth, Galar, Rhea was never a very sociable child. She never felt like she fit in with the other kids, and a little nagging voice at the back of her head kept telling her that she was "different" and they would never really accept her for who she was. Growing up, there were only two sources of solace that she felt comfortable with.
First, as one would expect from a Spikemuth girl, was punk rock. She spent countless hours of her childhood listening to not only local legend Piers, but others from regions near and far like Roxie from Unova. Just listening wasn't enough for her, however, and she slaved long and hard learning how to play the guitar so she could make the music she loved so much. The only time she felt she could really pour her heart out was when she was performing, even if there were some lyrics she wasn't ready to sing in public.
The second source was the only group of people she really felt comfortable around: Team Yell. Whilst it took her a little time to open up to them even slightly, she soon found herself wholeheartedly supporting the local trainer Marnie as she made her way through the Galar League, although she wasn't aware of some of the more underhanded way some of the other team members showed their support. All she really cared about was showing Marnie how much she was loved, and how much Spikemuth would support her, and how much she...
...In the end Marnie never won the championship, but at least her performance brought a lot of attention to Spikemuth. Even some of the strongest trainers from other regions wanted to check out the new gym leader, and one day a member of the Paldea Elite Four decided to do just that, challenging Marnie to an exhibition match. Rhea watched from the front row, and this was the first time she had ever seen the trainer called Rika in the flesh. And as soon as she layed eyes on her, suddenly so much made sense. This woman, so confident and powerful, so strong and pretty, this was what she wanted! She wanted to... To be like her? Was that it? Her mind was a little fuzzy from watching her, but she knew she had just met her idol. The next day her parents was overwhelmed with surprise at how much she went on about Rika and Paldea; they had never seen her as talkative or enthusiastic about anything before, although they mostly just seemed to pick up that their daughter wanted to study in Paldea. Arrangements were made, and soon enough Rhea was headed off to Papas Academy, hoping to properly meet her idol this time.
Pokémon:
Pokémon: Golett Nickname: Gigantor Personality: Very friendly and sociable, as opposed to its trainer. Actually a bit of a showoff, and often tries to show others how strong and talented it is to mixed results. Really looking forward to when it can finally evolve and truly be ready to fight for right against wrong. Current Moveset: Shadow Punch, Ice Punch, Pound, Defence Curl Ability: Iron Fist
Pokémon: Wooper (Paldean) Nickname: Mudpie Personality: Possibly even friendlier than Gigantor, to the point that Rhea often has to remind her that she's covered in poison and really shouldn't be rubbing against every human and Pokemon she meets. Perpetually cheerful, and seemingly nothing can bring her down. Really likes dancing to that loud angry music her trainer listens to. Current Moveset: Mud Shot, Tail Whip, Poison Tail, Toxic Spikes Ability: Water Absorb
Quirks: Rhea uses a Ball Guy Rotom Phone case, because you can take the girl out of Galar but you can't take Galar out of the girl. Attached to it is a custom keychain made by Team Yell of Spikemuth's current gym leader, Marnie.
Rhea is a big fan of curry, and a pretty decent cook to boot.
Rhea still plays guitar, sometimes playing at open mic nights in the cafés and bars of Mesagoza. Usually it's just covers, as she's still not confident in her own songwriting skills.
In case I have been too subtle about what her feelings regarding Marnie and Rika actually are, Rhea is a lesbian and crushes on both of them.
Sam is a taller young teen- standing exactly six feet tall. His build is average with very little muscle definition, which causes his body to be softer looking. He has light skin that is very smooth and without blemishes. With a boyishly rounded face, he tends to look younger than his age. He keeps it cleanly shaved. Golden honey-colored eyes peer out from a sea of darkness created by his long bangs and black eyeliner. The eyeliner makes his eyes pop and draws attention to his indifferent gaze. It also hides the bags under Sam's eyes from the lack of sleep. Silky and straight black hair reaches down to the middle of Sam's back. There's a crimson streak of hair within the long bangs that hugs his left cheek. From the shine, even length, and lack of knots- Sam's hair is obviously well taken care of. It is often worn down with a variety of different hair clips pinned above his ear. A couple common hairclips are a skull and crossed bones and a pink heart-shaped ones. There are occasions when Sam pulls his hair into a high ponytail at the top of his head.
Sam has adopted a gothic style of clothing, so his clothes are mainly black, leather, and tight-fitting. He does often wear dark red accessories as an accent as well. A typical outfit he wears is a black long-sleeved fishnet top underneath a black skull shirt, leather pants with red belts wrapping around his thighs, and tall belted leather boots. Due to the school dress code, he doesn't get to wear his preferred outfits all the time but will still accessorize with black fingerless gloves, tons of silver chains and belts around his waist and neck, and a spiked collar choker. Sam has multiple piercings in his ears and a nose ring that are all silver in color. Whenever he needs to carry a bunch of items around, he wears a leather single-strap bag that's black and red.
Personality:
Sam gives off an insociable and tough first impression. Standing with his chest puffed out, arms crossed, and an unblinking glare- makes others think he is not one to mess with. That first instinct is not one to ignore. The teen absolutely refuses to sit down and push around by other people. He'll choose to leave the situation, most times, but there are times when he'll have some choice words. His words are blunt, sometimes cutting deeply without a care about how the other person may feel. He is often unsympathetic towards others' minor difficulties and complaints. Even when Sam isn't uncaring about something, he just depressingly states how harsh the situation is. He has a habit of judging others based on their first impression of him.
Generally, Sam is neither hostile nor friendly. He won't suddenly bite someone's head off, but he won't attempt to make conversation either. The teen will respond when addressed but will typically keep to himself. Sam tends to have more snippy and sarcastic remarks, when he becomes annoyed. Deliberately, he will say things to invoke irritation in the other person. There will also be moments where Sam will add unneeded impolite commentary. And there are the rarer moments when he is tolerant of others. Although he still seems indifferent, he'll start a conversation without being prompted. Offer to help or listen if it's nothing too troublesome. He comes off as a very quiet acquaintance who is pleasant to hang out with. It isn't a friendship with Sam, just him being willing to minorly deal with someone.
Sam is slow to fully warm up to others before putting them into the friend category. Rather than getting hurt by flighty friends, he simply doesn't make any. When deemed as a friend, Sam is an excellent one. No matter what is the problem, he willingly listens and even brainstorms ways to solve them. Troublesome things that he absolutely despises, he's willing to do for a friend. In friend groups, he is the leveled-headed, responsible one that always talks people out of doing stupid or reckless actions. Sam is truly a caring, loyal friend if one can breach his walls. The teen is generally not interested in love. Since his trust is a lengthy process to gain, most crushes on him don't last. Sam has never had that level of trust to be completely vulnerable to anyone other than family. That's not to say he doesn't find people cute or attractive. But his feelings haven't yet developed beyond that. Sam shows disinterest when directly flirted with.
Sam is a pessimist that hardly ever sees a good outcome. Thus he never set his expectations too high and is not affected when things go wrong. Calm and collected in the direst situations, this helps him think and maybe find a solution. When others try to force their optimistic views on him, he finds it annoying. Which causes him to ignore it altogether or find flaws that could cause it to turn out badly. He doesn't dislike positive thinking; he just doesn't like to be told how to feel. Sam hates pretty much anything that tries to change him into something he's not.
Sam likes to be by himself and just let his thoughts wander. While he cherishes his alone time, he tends to have fun whenever he hangs out with others. It's just that he gets worn out pretty fast being around a bunch of happy and hyper people. He absolutely loves flowers, cute things, and sweets- and he is not embarrassed to admit it. At the same time, he also really likes- gothic clothing, piercings, and chains, even though it create a bad image. Either way, Sam just stays true to himself- loving and doing whatever he wants without being restrained by other opinions.
Backstory:
Floaroma Town, Sinnoh, is where Samuel was born. His parents were a carefree and lively couple who rarely considered the consequences of their actions. Despite their boisterous and cheery attitude, then son grew up as a quiet and serious kid that could take him of himself. His personality never brought any worries to his parents as he was a well-behaved even if wasn't very talkative. Unfortunately, kids his age saw him as eerily silent and unsociable, so Sam had no friends in his small hometown. He spent most of his free time sitting and taking in the sweet scent of flowers in the meadow north of the town. He had just turned seven when his parents' work moved them to Goldenrod City in Johto.
Sam was also unpopular with his peers in this new city. Being used to having no friends, he was indifferent toward the treatment. When he started to get a taste for black and darker shades of gothic clothing, adults also began to think he was up to no good. What was unexpected was despite the many rumors about him being a troublemaker, a boy named Marquel began to approach Sam in a friendly manner. Having zero experience with kids his age being nice to him, the boy took a more defensive stance toward him. But even that didn't deter the stubborn boy. Although after their random meeting while he was visiting the local flower shop, the fact Marquel didn't find anything odd with it caused Sam warm up to him. Even though it seems one-sided on Marquel's side to others, to Sam, he was best friend. However, his parents were transferred to another region after only a little over two years. It hurt Sam a lot to leave behind the only friend he had ever made, but promised that no matter what they'll always be best friends.
His parents were transferred two times before settling in Hau'oli City-Alola as their new home. The moving from place to place really jaded him to forming connections with others, since he could move at anytime and be forced to leave them behind. Even though Sam's gothic aesthetic taste in clothing clashed with the colorful Alola atomsphere, people here were actually quite friendly regardless. However, their overwhelming friendliness and generosity rubbed him the wrong way. It reminded him too much of Marquel, which still hurt a lot to separate from. So Sam found himself not getting close to anyone. Probably due to the birth of his twin brother and sister, his parents job stayed in Alola for longer than usual.
Sam was around twelve at the time and would often venture out unsupervised into pokémon-infected areas without having a pokémon of his own. It wasn't that he didn't want a pokémon, just the pokémon selected for him didn't choose him back. Though he brushed it off it was actually a pretty big blow that not even pokémon wanted to be near him. He eventually found his favorite place on the island, Melemele Meadow. He would just sit there and take in the sweet scent of the yellow flowers. It reminded him of his hometown and Goldenrod city's flower shop, so it was relaxing. He would spend hours sitting there- from early morning to nightfall. It wasn't uncommon for a group of Cutiefly to flutter over him. One particular Cutiefly would always fly really close to him. He stood out from the group because the pokemon was a spot of pink upon the sea of yellow. After this happened so many times, it eventually just started perching on his head and going home with him.
Manly the Cutiefly became his pokémon. With the tiny fairy bug by his side, his hardened exterior softened up. His defenses were still up, but it became more common to see his kinder side. With his more girlish liking of cute things, he would brighten up with his cute little pokémon of his. Most likely due to his Cutiefly's presence, teens his age began to approach and talk with him more. While he never truly bonded with another human in Alola, he could have conversations and had minor acquaintances. So much so, he was even a little sad leaving them when his family moved to the Paldea.
Sam expected just another stop where he would occasionally meet kids around his neighborhood before having to move again. But this time, he found himself being enrolled in the Papas Academy where he would live in the dorms. He wasn't very excited about it, but he's finding some of his classes entertaining. Sam is trying his best not to get his hopes too high.
Pokémon: Cutiefly Nickname: Manly
Personality: Despite being the tiny little bug/fairy he is, Manly is quite the sassy bug. The bold little critter has no fear of standing up to beings over 100 times bigger than it. He doesn't prefer fighting but will definitely pick some when he feels insulted or people treat Sam rudely. When Manly isn't fluttering around flowers to gather pollen and nectar, he loves to perch on his trainer's head and observe his surroundings. The Cutiefly often tries to get Sam to be more sociable by going over to what he considers an acceptable human.
+ Manly is a shiny Cutiefly that lives in a luxury ball though he's rarely inside of it. + Sam loves sweets of all kinds while Manly loves spicy foods. - Sam loves to make his own sweets. + A mild sweet scent of flowers wafts off of Sam. + Sam just got his Rotom phone so he doesn't really know how it works most of the time. - He is using the fairy case with it. + He can be seen talking with someone on his phone fairly often. + The regions Sam lived in are: Sinnoh, Johto, Unova, Kalos, and Alola before Paldea. - In order of longest time he lived in each place is: Sinnoh (7yrs), Alola (5yrs), Johto (2yrs), Kalos (1 1/2yrs), and Unova (1 1/2yrs) + The pink and heart-shaped hair clips Sam are gifts from his little sister while the skull and bones ones are from his little brother. + Because he lived it many different regions, he knows basic foreign languages words. + Has pretty good knowledge about species of flowers.
Relationships:
Jordan: Even though she is annoyingly peppy, Sam finds her tolerable to be around.
"Your first mistake was assuming that Normal types were weak! Let's fly, Striker!"
Full Name: Harry Kleinberg
Age: 17
Favorite Color: Silver
Favorite Subject: History
Favorite Teacher: Ms. Raifort
Appearance: Harry's appearance is pretty basic. When he's not attending classes Harry typically sports a simple t-shirt, jeans, a hoodie, and running shoes. If he's out exploring, he typically wears his 'lucky' Unova Pokémon League hat. Both to keep the sun off his face and to remind him of home. When attending classes, Harry likes to wear a modified version of the Papas Academy Spring uniform; trading out the suspenders for a canvas belt and occasionally switching between sandals and running shoes.
Despite his seemingly lean physique, he has a surprising amount of muscle. This is due to his many years of outdoor activities such as camping, rock climbing, and rafting he did as part of his job as a research fellow. Other items of note are a Tera Orb he keeps stowed in his backpack for when battles crop up, a modified Xtransceiver on his left wrist, and his personal copies of both the Scarlet and Violet books.
Personality: Harry is best characterized as a 'kid who swallowed a textbook'. His biggest passion is studying and learning new things about the world: specifically history. Whenever he finds a situation to share anything he's learned, Harry sometimes can't stop himself from spitting out information like rapid-fire. While you may think Harry is a shut-in bookworm, this can't be further from the truth. Rather than keep himself closed up in a library, Harry loves getting out into the world and seeing all the things he's studied and learned about. He secretly hopes that he'll make a 'great discovery' of his own one day.
While Harry enjoys studying and doesn't mind being on his own, he also hates being alone. Due to an event a few years ago, he's always had a bad habit of pushing away people he finds himself becoming close to. Deep down, he fears being betrayed so he mentally puts up barriers in order to prepare himself for the eventual hurt. He doesn't like this part of himself, but it's something he's come to accept. However, if Harry believes a person can be trusted, he's as loyal to them as 'an Emboar that knew Return' as his dad would say.
Besides this, Harry also has an uncanny talent for adaptability. Much like his type, he has a wide variety of - often unusual - skills and abilities that he has picked up throughout his life. He typically tries to do everything himself if he can manage it, but he knows when he needs to call for help; even if he doesn't like it.
Backstory: Hailing from Nacrene City in the Unova region, Harry's childhood wasn't the happiest. His father passed when he was young and his mother was a Pokémon League official who dreamed of her son becoming champion one day; making him get into battling from a young age. She even went out of her way to procure a Rufflet so that he'd have a powerful Braviary when he grew up. While he enjoyed battling, Harry hated the pressure he was under and often found himself retreating into books for his own escapism. When his mom realized Harry wasn't going to become a top-tier trainer, she essentially abandoned her son and began leaving home to travel for work.
Resenting his mother for leaving him, Harry eventually fell in with a bad crowd. Some delinquents from the Nacrene School peer pressured him into joining their gang. One night, after a failed heist of the local PokeMart, the gang decided to abandon Harry to the police and escape without him. Because of his clean record - and the fact that he technically hadn't committed a crime due to being lookout - the judge let Harry off with a warning and community service in the Nacrene Museum.
This 'punishment' turned out to be a blessing in disguise because it's where Harry got to meet Lenora, the local gym leader. While hesitant to trust her initially, her warm motherly persona won Harry over and the two bonded quickly. Harry enjoyed his time working at the museum and it reignited his old passion for books and learning. Soon after his service was up Lenora hired Harry on as a junior research fellow and he became an official employee of the museum; even getting to assist on expeditions around the Unova region! Lenora became something of a surrogate mother figure to Harry and a trusted friend. In fact, it was Lenora herself that recommended Harry for a spot at Papas Academy!
Shortly after his 17th birthday, Lenora explained there had been at opening at Papas Academy in the Paldea Region. Despite the prestigious nature of the school, Harry was reluctant to leave the Nacrene museum and the friends he made there. That all changed when Lenora revealed she had a cousin in the Paldea region. A master archeologist by the name of Raifort who was even more skilled than her! On the day he was set to leave, the museum had a going away party for Harry where they presented him with copies of the Scarlet and Violet books; documenting the history of the new region he was about to step into.
Now, Harry is eagerly awaiting the announcement of the Treasure Hunt. He'd recently uncovered information regarding an ancient 'legend' of the Paldea region and four super powerful Pokémon that were said to be sealed away in the four corners of the region. Armed with his knowledge and exploration skills, Harry is certain these Pokémon will be the "great treasure" he is looking for!
Pokémon:
Pokémon: Rufflet Nickname: Striker Personality: Striker is an incredibly loyal friend to Harry and - much like his trainer - shows an unusual love of studying that is uncommon in his species. Whereas most Rufflet love to battle and prepare to evolve, Striker enjoys taking things at his own pace and learning how to battle effectively rather that just brute force his way through a problem. However, Striker sometimes gets a little too eager and rushes into new plans and tactics without thinking. Ability: Hustle Known Moves: Acrobatics, Hone Claws, Take Down, Protect
Pokémon: Teddiursa Nickname: Moony Personality: Moony likes to sleep A LOT. A Pokémon that Harry discovered during a trip to the Entralink, most trainers that meet him observe that Moony is something of an oddity. In fact, Harry doesn't even remember how he caught Moony; just 'an unusual dream' and he was there. Regardless, Moony is quite attached to Harry and enjoys using his trainer as a pillow when not battling. Ability: Pickup Known Moves: Fury Swipes, Yawn, Belly Drum, Covet
Pokémon: Cyclizar Nickname: Rotor Personality: Rotor is a more temperamental Pokémon than the rest of Harry's team. He rarely listens to his trainer in battle and is more often used by Harry for transport across Paldea. However, even this is problematic as Rotor likes to dash off without regard to where his trainer wants to go. He stays in his ball most of the time... Ability: Shed Skin Known Moves: Quick Attack, Breaking Swipe, Rapid Spin, Taunt Add more as you catch them
Quirks: - Harry doesn't like ghost Pokémon. He doesn't even own a Rotom phone. To get around this, he modified his old Xtransceiver to work with current technology. Now it can access the Pokedex and transfer League Points! - The Fairy-type makes no sense to Harry. This is largely due to Unova being 'behind' on more recent developments in Pokémon research, but he refuses to believe that Fairy-types exist. - Harry is secretly fascinated by the Great Crater of Paldea because of its similarities to the Entralink of Unova. He wonders if the two share some sort of connection?

Full Name: Jean Renard Age: 19 Favorite Color: White Favorite Subject: Home Ec Favorite Teacher: Mr. Saguaro
Appearance: Jean is what could be described as a Tall glass of water. He stands at around 6’0” although he often appears taller due to his poised posture. He has a lean physique from a lifestyle of healthy eating and the occasional workout. His skin is relatively pale, although he is prone to sunburns if he’s not careful. His face has certain sharp features such as his defined jawline and cheekbones. His friendly eyes are deep blue in color. He’s quite expressive in general and isn’t too difficult to read. Accessory-wise, Jean has pierced ears, and wear a pair of black hairclips. His hair is medium short and naturally blonde. It’s also naturally wavy, although he usually straightens it out.
For clothing, Jean is usually one to prefer quality over practicality, even though he’s found ways to mix the two in preparation to his journey. Due to his familys status in Kalos, he has had access to a wide variety of quality brand clothing from the different boutiques scattered around the region, which has helped forming his personal style during his upbringing. His go-to attire is normally a mellow formal-casual style, with elements such as buttoned shirts and reasonable light-colored sweaters to more practical jeans and footwear. One of his go-to outfits is a white V-necked long sleeved shirt with a pair of dark blue jeans. He also wears a pair of dark brown loafers, as well as a dark brown shoulderbag for all his necessities. At school, however, he naturally wear the school uniform, of which he has made no customizations to, preferring it to be on point at all time.
Personality: Jean has a generally friendly disposition towards everyone he meets, and tries to be open-minded towards everyone. Coming from a prestigious family in the Kalos region, he quickly developed a snobby personality growing up, which he is now painfully aware of, and actively tries to steer away from. Somewhat self-centered, Jean often struggles with seeing things from others perspectives, which makes him come across as rude and inconsiderate at times. When he’s confronted over such behavior though, Jean is quick to apologize. He carries himself with both poise and confidence, and while he’s a bit socially awkward sometimes, Jean is genuinely a good guy. He’s always ready to offer a helping hand if he feels like he can contribute, and he would always stand up for his friends if they were to be in any sort of trouble.
A studious guy, Jean would much rather choose to stay home and go to school rather than run around in the region on a pokemon journey to collect gym badges or whatever the kids are doing nowdays. As such, he’s not a great battler himself, which doesn’t bother him too much.
Jean has always loved cooking, which isn’t too weird considering how close to home the culinary arts really hit. Having looked up to his father as a chef all his life, it was a no-brainer that Jean would eventually dabble in the culinary arts himself, which he has shown great promise in, even going so far as to attend different schools specifically catering to the craft. He’s very knowledgeable about food, different types of ingredients and where to find them.
Backstory: Jean was born in the Kalos region as the only son to none other than the Elite four masterchef himself: Siebold. Jean’s mother is pretty much the perfect stereotype of a trophy wife: She’s young, she doesn’t work and she just spends way too much money. To Jean though, she was always a loving mother who was there with him growing up when his fathers businesses took him elsewhere. As such, he now has a very strong bond with his mother, who often calls to check up on him.
As Jeans father was often busy with his duties either as a chef or as an Elite four, Jean didn’t see as much of him growing up as he would have wanted. He did see him on Tv though, a lot. While pokemon battles were cool and all, Jean truly got inspired when watching his father cook. This applied to the occasions where he was at home cooking for them as well. Jean would always run around in the kitchen like a little sock puppet, helping his father out while being almost cartoonishly clumsy. These memories are some of his fondest memories of his childhood.
When Jean was 10 years old, he was given a Froakie by the regions Pokemon professor as a starter for his pokemon journey. While he wasn’t really ecstatic about the idea of going on a pokemon journey, he decided to give it a shot. Being the son of an Elite Four member placed some expectations on your shoulder, after all. He managed to get one gym badge from the Santalune Gym, but also decided at that point that he didn’t want to continue a pokemon journey. He instead moved back home and pursued education, giving him the opportunity to pursue his true passion: cooking.
Now 19 years old, Jean is already a very talented cook, having worked and learned alongside his father at various restaurants around the Kalos region. Despite this, he still has a lot to learn. His culinary journey has now taken him to the Paldea region where he has lived at, and attended the Papas Academy for some time now. Now awaiting news regarding the years big Treasure Hunt, Jean is set on discovering new recipes and combination to make even more excellent food that he can bring with him back to Kalos once his education is concluded.
Quirks: - He loves swimming as a secondary hobby to cooking. - He originates from Kalos and has a faint Kalosian (French) accent. - Said accent, along with his general posture, has made him quite popular with many of the girls at the academy. - He’s not very good at pokemon battles.
Pokémon:
Pokémon: Frogadier Nickname: Ribbit Personality: Ribbit is often nicknamed the Lone Ribbit Ranger by Jean due to his standoffish edgy loner wannabe attitude. Despite his attempts though, Ribbit greatly enjoy the company of others. He’s also very polite to both trainers and pokemon alike. Ability: Protean Moves: - Water Pulse - Double Team - Quick Attack - Smokescreen
Pokémon: Tatsugiri (Curly Form) Nickname: Giri Personality: Giri is a cunning and evil little fish to face in battle. She tends to play the meek timid weak little fish to get opponents to lower their guard, then fire off with powerful Dragon, or Water-Type moves. She’s not above taunting other enemies despite their potential size difference either. This comes back to bite her though. Often. Outside of battle she’s a lot more relaxed and sociable. Ability: Storm Drain Moves: - Chilling Water - Dragon Pulse - Nasty Plot - Soak
Favorite Subject: Math, as she finds it comes naturally to her.
Favorite Teacher: Jacq, as she admires his work on the Pokédex.
Appearance: Alyssa is on the shorter side, standing at five feet, with a small build. Over the top of her uniform, she wears a large green coat, originally belonging to her father, and on her feet she wears a pair of black combat books. Around her neck, she wears a necklace with a purple gemstone attached, handed down to her from her mother.
Personality: Upon meeting Alyssa, your first instinct may be to just say that she’s shy and move on, which isn’t entirely false. She can be quite a reserved person, preferring to keep to herself and supposedly not having much of an interest in making friends, though in general most would consider her a nice enough person, if a little quiet. But when she’s alone, or around people that she trusts, her true self shines through - she sees all sorts of beauty in the world, not just in the landscape or the wildlife of Paldea, but also in the little things, absolutely fascinated by how things work, why things do what they do. She speaks passionately when it comes to her interest, often going on long rants even if the other person has no idea what she is talking about, and when it comes to her pokémon she couldn’t be any closer to them, enjoying every single moment spent with them.
Backstory: Whilst she was originally from Galar, both her parents being international students in Papas Academy before moving back to their home country, Alyssa grew up in Madeli in the Paldea Region, having moved there at the age of three. She doesn’t have many memories of her life back in Galar, so always considered Paldea to be her home. Especially as a child, she loved to explore the landscape with her parents, the family of three often going for picnics or walks through the countryside - perhaps in her parents case to relive their school days, though Alyssa was always happy just to spend time with them. Even more so as she got older and they got busier with work, those quiet days wandering along winding paths and through the fields were the ones she treasured most.
Moving into her pre-teen years, her parents only grew busier, and she ended up spending a lot of time alone, though she found that she didn’t particularly mind. Around this time, she gained a particular interest in pokéballs, teaching herself how to pull them apart and put them back together again, trying to learn and understand their inner workings. This interest expanded into machines in general, much to the slight dismay of her parents as she began to take apart household appliances for fun (she stopped after they explained why that was a bad idea, but they still supported her interests, instead seeking out already broken beyond repair machines for her to mess around with). Later, she began to actually study mechanics, reading whatever books she could get her hands on though mostly just waiting in anticipation for her time to attend Papas Academy, already knowing that the STEM track would be perfect for her.
She finally got her first pokémon at the age of thirteen. After her parents had finally deemed her old enough to explore on her own, provided that she stayed away from areas with the more dangerous pokémon, she spent a lot of time out in the fields of Paldea, often just sitting alone and fiddling with some machinery in the fresh air, or even sketching out mechanical drawings. And often on days like this, a few pokémon would surround her, sitting at her feet as she worked, and she never really minded - pokémon had never been something she had been super interested in, other than finding a few of them cute, though catching and battling had always been more of her parents thing, and something that they’d never quite managed to instill in her, but she was more than happy to let the local wildlife flock around her, as long as they weren’t bothering her. One Mareep, however, took particular interest in her, always sitting by her side, especially if she offered head scratches, and eventually she followed her home, refusing to leave her side. Her parents allowed her to keep her, and she named the Mareep ‘Rosie’.
The introduction of Rosie in her life came at the perfect time, it just so happened, though perhaps not for the best of reasons. A few months afterwards, her mother grew suddenly ill - to begin with, she was just more tired than usual, finding everyday tasks harder and harder, until one evening she collapsed in the house, falling into unconsciousness. After being rushed to the hospital, she woke back up, but was never really herself again, constantly slipping in and out of consciousness, unable to even get out of bed. No one ever told Alyssa exactly what was wrong with her, but she knew pretty early on that her mother… wasn’t going to make it. She died just a few days after Alyssa’s fourteenth birthday.
After that, Alyssa grew more reserved, spending more time in the house, her father also taking some time off of work but obviously not in the best of mindspaces either. In this time of grief, she pushed back the start of her academic life by a year, despite being due to start soon. Thankfully, Rosie was by her side the whole time, and through the experience she grew very close to her, unsure exactly what she would have done without her.
Though eventually, shortly after she turned fifteen, it was time for her to start her education at Papas Academy, and she immediately got stuck in with her studies, trying to forget about the past year, push everything deep, deep down. And perhaps she studied a little too hard - as seen in her treasure hunt in the first year, which she spent the majority of still in school, reading random things in the library or doing extra work for classes, especially the more science-heavy ones which she did find extremely fascinating. She did head out into the wilderness a few times, having been pushed to do so by a couple of her classmates, who… she wouldn’t exactly class as ‘friends’, since she certainly wasn’t in the mood for making friends at the time, but she appreciated briefly having them by her side at least. In the end it didn’t matter too much, as the first year passed by quickly, and then it was time for her second year.
Her second year went by in a similar fashion, mostly focusing on her studies, though she did make a little bit more of an effort with her treasure hunt, deciding to go out into the world and get a closer look at some of the pokémon that Paldea had to offer. Though she still wasn’t particularly interested in battling or building a team, during this time she ended up catching a Shinx, named Danny, who she quickly grew to love just as much as her Mareep Rosie, even if Danny took a little longer to warm up to her. It was also around this time that her father decided to travel back to Galar, supposedly just for a short while to visit some family, though a short while turned into a few months which turned into a year, and eventually became permanent. Alyssa continued to attend the academy, still, staying on campus during the school year and staying in Galar over the summer.
As summer came to a close, she headed back to Paldea with a bit of a fresher mind, deciding that she would try to make the most of her third year. With the treasure hunt coming around, she figured that it may be a good time to try something new, get herself out there more, and her father had recommended trying out the gym challenge, which is something that he had done during his time at school. Certainly not something that Alyssa had ever considered trying, but she figured it was worth a shot, if only to actually force herself to get out of school for a bit and explore more of the region, maybe catch a few new pokémon along the way, and train up the ones she already had.
Pokémon:
Pokémon: Mareep Nickname: Rosie Personality: Rosie is extremely affectionate, and seems to be quite empathic, always seeming to know when Alyssa is upset and wanting to be by her side the entire time. She isn’t much of a fighter, far more interested in chewing grass or having her head scratched. Ability: Static Moves: -Growl -Tackle -Thunder Wave -Thunder Shock
Pokémon: Shinx Nickname: Danny Personality: Danny is quite feisty, very active, enjoying running around and causing mayhem. He seems to have more stamina than Alyssa thinks should be feasibly possible, easily able to run circles around her, though she loves him all the same. Ability: Intimidate Moves: -Tackle -Thunder Shock -Charge -Bite
Quirks:
She prefers to keep her pokémon out of their balls, letting them run around at her feet or sit with her as she works, finding their presence to be comforting.
She is pretty much always fiddling with something, whether that be a piece of machinery she left in her pockets or the necklace around her neck.
Relationships: (To be filled out as the RP progresses.)
"I want to fly high to the stars, almost like I was born to join them!"
Full Name: Jordan Staar
Age: 16
Favorite Color: Yellow
Favorite Subject: Biology
Favorite Teacher: Mr. Saguaro
Appearance: Jordan stands in just above five feet tall with a slight, lean build. Her skin is deceivingly light during cold months as it turns six shades darker after being outdoors regularly in the warm and sunny months. Along the back of her left calf is a small burn scar. Her thin, brunette hair is cropped short, sometimes in a ponytail, and her bangs are spiky and windswept. Chocolate colored eyes are set in a boxy face with thick eyebrows and a petite nose. A wide mouth and slight underbite complete the look.
As for fashion, Jordan takes a practical approach with sporty clothing in layers. She often has a hoodie or jacket around her waist in case she wants to go for a fly along with a set of goggles to protect her eyes. Comfortable gloves are a must too since her fingers tend to get cold even on a warm day. Even though she isn't fond of her facial structure, she refuses makeup as she finds it insincere. Other accessories like jewelry she sees as a burden. The uniform annoys her as being restrictive so she often has sporty underclothes and changes as soon as possible.
Personality: Jordan is an energetic and outgoing person. Though mornings are tough, she quickly gains enthusiasm for the day and is excited to join the people around her. Her emotional intelligence is high, quickly attuning to those around her and bouncing off the energy other people bring. Unfortunately, her academic intelligence suffers so she struggles to pass classes she holds no interest in, likely some minor and undiagnosed learning disability. She has quick wit and even did theater back at school in Hoenn, always eager to put a smile on the faces of those around her, usually well known in any community she's a part of. She's also a little gremlin that has a unique sense of humor and loves to tease and prank given a willing target.
On the other side of things, she has problems processing her own emotions and expectations. As a strongly empathetic person, she can struggle to differentiate between her feelings and those of people around her. Being bad at explaining herself has also led her to closing up to others about her troubles. Jordan will bottle up her emotions over time until she's overwhelmed and bursts. Some of her insecurities include her boyish appearance, her fear of fire, and any time she feels she failed to help a friend. She holds herself to a high standard and beats herself up for falling short. When she fails at something enough, her temper can flare up, but always aimed at herself.
Backstory: Jordan grew up in Fortree City, Hoenn as an only child to a Pokemon Ranger father and stay-at-home mother. She was homeschooled from a young age, but attended public school once she was five years old. There she made an impression as a good friend to everyone, all smiles and rainbows. Unfortunately, she had trouble getting close to any one friend group and tended to flit about the edges of many friend circles instead. She learned from a young age that trying to bond with others would make them feel uncomfortable, though through no fault of her own. Jordan simply expressed herself in a unique way and never found the right people to support that outside her family, leading her to hide her problems around others while staying a fun person to be around. Still, she thrived in the unique city climbing trees and encountering a huge cast of wild Pokemon day in and out. The family had a Tropius, named Albert, she would play with and take on short flights with mom or dad. Her classmates would call her the Kecleon of their grade, as a compliment, for her ability to simply blend into the emotions of people around her. Life was good for a time.
At the age of fourteen, Fortree City was caught ablaze in the night. Jordan's father was on patrol that night and already fighting the flames. Mom and daughter were trying to work their way to the ground, but to no avail. Albert came to their rescue, but returned to the town on fire to help more citizens. Winona did her part too as the gym leader and at the end of the night, she delivered the news that Albert had not made it through the night. Instead, she passed on a small egg they found around the remains of their house. Jordan treasured that egg over the months when the family temporarily relocated to Paldea to be with her grandparents. She was mostly inconsolable during that time, even glum when they were able to return to Fortree, but after a young Tropius hatched from the egg life started to look up again.
Jordan and the Tropius, Albert Junior, bonded immediately. The two did everything together and an interest in Pokemon breeding was sparked for Jordan. She started to get into flying sports, looking up to her local gym leader, and she wanted to go to a school that could help her learn more about breeding between Pokemon. Her parents suggested Papas Academy, where her grandparents were close by in Los Platos. Though it took some time to get her grades up to par, Jordan was determined and got accepted a year later. She's looking forward to the treasure hunt, an opportunity to explore the region and perhaps adventure into herself and explore what she truly wants.
Partner Pokémon: Tropius Nickname: "AJ" Albert Junior Personality: AJ has a heart of gold and a competitive spirit. He enjoys the flying sports he plays with his trainer and is always there to comfort her when she boils over with emotion. A bit shy compared to his trainer, AJ lets others take the lead and is simply there to enjoy the ride life takes him on. Ability: Harvest Moveset: - Leaf Storm - Magical Leaf - Whirlwind - Sweet Scent
Pokémon: Wattrel Nickname: Aguacita Personality: A bit of an empty-headed bird, Aguacita enjoys simple pleasures. She is fiercely loyal to her small family and has a passion for justice, even if she isn’t always certain what the right thing is in a situation. Ability: Volt Absorb Moveset: - Thunder Shock - Quick Attack - Pluck - Spark
Quirks: • Has a fear of fire, but isn’t afraid of fire-type Pokemon • Enjoys photography, has an extra app on her Hoenn era phone for better photos • Always ready to fly and has clips and bungees to keep things attached to her as needed • Likely on the spectrum and is exploring her gender identity lately, though isn’t vocal about either topic • Absolutely not a morning person
"Hey, everyone has bad days sometimes, right Luna? Want to go for a walk with us and talk or something? It'll clear your head.”
Full Name: Pete Johnson
Age: 17
Favorite Color: “Whatever color Luna is - that's my favorite” (Tan)
Favorite Subject: Health [*I'm assuming we start the semester after MC, so this would be available – but if this is not the case I can edit!]
Favorite Teacher: Mr. Jacq, for never giving up on him
Appearance: Clocking in at 6'2” and about 215lbs, Pete's hulking frame is the first thing people notice about him. A result of both an insatiable love of protein and a ton of daily heavy lifting, his weight is entirely muscle. His intimidating size is usually offset by a friendly grin, however he's pretty awful at hiding emotions, so if he's upset, you will know it. He is very expressive in general with his movements and vocal inflection, with excitement and sorrow alike conveyed unmistakably through his chocolatey brown eyes.
Pete doesn't have much of a fashion sense, preferring either plaid or solid-colored t-shirts paired with blue or black jeans and sneakers or work boots outside of school. For class, he usually opts for the summer uniform but sometimes chooses the spring or autumn uniform (the winter one is too warm for his liking). He always wears a string of wooden beads on his left wrist. It was made by his grandfather and used to belong to his grandmother, who wore it as a necklace. Their initials are carved into the clasp, encircled by a heart.
Personality: Pete's brother would describe him as a sensitive, overemotional dumbass. His sister would describe him as a friend to everyone, but with a disclaimer that his big heart and endless loyalty will be the death of him one day. Pete would shrug and agree with both reviews. He has a naturally friendly and easygoing disposition to everybody, being very non-judgmental of people different than him but slow to recognize when his presence is not desired. He cares deeply for those he considers friends and would listen without complaint for hours about their interests or about something that was bothering them. Though empathetic, he's not the best at detecting emotion, which leads to him asking “are you okay?” a lot, and accepting it at face value if told the affirmative. He also loves to joke around and tease people he's close to. There's no better example of Pete's large heart than his relationship with his rockruff, Luna, who is his little princess and does everything with him, including sharing his bed and all of his meals.
Although Pete doesn't offend easily over things like quips on his appearance, appetite, or opinions, his grades are a particular sore spot, and any insinuation that he isn't smart enough to be in the health track will upset him. His many failed midterms have made him aware that he's not the brightest student at Papas Academy, and he can sometimes be slow to understand something explained to him, especially if the words used are large or plentiful. Similarly, he's quite bad with nuance and can't take a hint. Your best bet to get a point across is to be as direct as possible - though at the same time he can be sensitive and easily stung by social rejection, making handling him a difficult affair at times. His opinion on most things can be very easily swayed, and he's quite easy to bribe (especially with food). He tends to jump to conclusions very quickly, which has led to him initiating fights over misunderstandings.
If you didn't know any better, you would think Pete lived in a constant state of hunger. He will eat just about anything at any time and is known to complain about being hungry even after he's just eaten. Food is a definite way into his heart. He uses the extra calories to exercise whenever he's given the opportunity. He claims it grounds him and makes him focus better, perhaps outside of the dopamine boost because it's something he's confident he's good at, which is why he's often found at the gym instead of the library before a big test.
Backstory: Pete was born and raised in a large farmhouse on the outskirts of Cortondo, Paldea, and grew up with his parents, older brother (Jack), younger sister (Mila), and his paternal grandparents. His siblings were both two years apart from him. His grandfather, who passed away when Pete was six, had built the house himself fifty years before Pete was born, and despite the creaking doors and patchwork repairs, Pete wouldn't have his childhood any other way. As far back as he can remember, he started chores at 6am every day, stopped for breakfast, more chores, lunch, homeschooling, more chores, and then after dinner he was free to do whatever he wanted. There was pretty much no task that was off limits, whether it be feeding the pokemon, plowing the fields, sheering the mareep, harvesting olives, clearing out pest nacli, or repairing fences. His grandmother, “Granny”, was a retired schoolteacher, so she was Pete's teacher his entire childhood. Of the three children, Pete always caught on the fastest and was also the only one to enjoy reading and learning in his spare time. In hindsight, it really wasn't much of a contest – he once found his brother caught halfway over the tauros fence by his pants after locking himself in and then failing to climb out, and his sister once asked him if the moon and the sun were the same thing... and also if they were behind or in front of the clouds. As a kid though, Pete assumed he must be a genius.
Pete's older brother Jack heckled him continuously growing up, picking up quickly on Pete's sensitivity and mocking him when he'd fuss over an injured mareep in the flock or shared his dinner with a sad lechonk to make it feel better. His parents mostly ignored this behavior, figuring they may as well let their older son toughen their younger one up a bit. Granny was the only one who showed him any sympathy, so she was always the one to dry his tears and reassure him that empathy was an admirable quality. The pokemon also responded more favorably to Pete, so as the years went on, he slowly took over more of those duties.
This is likely why the family's herding midday lycanroc, Stella, chose Pete to present with an egg when he was fourteen. The imminent new life took everyone by surprise, and they were more careful about letting Stella roam outside alone after that, but Pete took his responsibility as surrogate mother extremely seriously. Stella happily followed him around for weeks as he toted the egg with him through his daily chores-food-school ritual. One fateful day, the egg hatched into a little female rockruff which Pete named Luna, and the two were inseparable from that moment on.
In Pete's mid-teen years, Granny started to slow down tremendously. She could barely leave bed anymore, and Pete and Luna spent much of their free time talking to her, or helping her up to the dinner table or bathroom. One night when they were talking, Granny mentioned that he should consider going to the Papas Academy. Pete laughed at this notion at first – Granny was the only one in the family who had any sort of formal education, and he'd made peace with being a farmer for the rest of his life. But she insisted – he was different from his siblings – he had a special spark – he and Luna could do it together.
He began to look more seriously into education. It wasn't impossible, especially as his sister had taken over most of his chores when he shifted to looking after their grandmother, but he would never leave Granny, so he figured it would be far in his future when he finally got to go. One quiet night, he excitedly told his grandmother his decision that he would attend the academy in the future, just like she wanted him to. He vividly remembers her smiling softly and telling him how proud of him she was.
The next morning, they'd found Granny had quietly slipped away in her sleep. Pete was devastated but determined to follow through on his promise, and though his application to Papas Academy was littered with tear stains, he was accepted. Nobody else in his family really cared aside from being annoyed that his chores would be shifted onto them, but he knew his Granny was out there somewhere, watching with pride. He started wearing her necklace to keep a part of her with him at the academy, as it was small enough to fit onto his large wrist.
As excited as Pete was to attend the academy, he quickly realized his lack of prior formal education was going to come as a massive hurdle. Studying? Tests? He had no experience or strategies for such things. Luna was highly offended when the school officials insisted she needed to be in a ball during class, so Pete had to go and buy one for her (a luxury ball, of course). He fell behind in the curriculum very quickly, finding the pace impossible to keep up with, and failed every midterm he wrote. He also refused to use Luna in battle studies, which was basically an automatic fail since he didn't have any other pokemon. By the time he'd gotten over his embarrassment and sought help from Mr. Jacq, there wasn't enough time in the school year to make up the credits and was advised that he would need to retake all of his courses next year.
Maybe his grandmother was wrong about him. He was good at farmwork, he knew how to do it, and he'd certainly never failed a dozen tests on it – home was where he was meant to be. He and Luna stopped at the graveyard on the way home, but Pete froze at the entrance. He remembered the last words she ever said to him, and broke into a sobbing mess at the cemetery gate.
He couldn't tell Granny he was dropping out; she was the only one who ever believed in him. Luna gently tapped his leg and pointed her nose back to Mesagoza with a smile. He engulfed the little rockruff in a hug. Luna believed in him, too.
He consulted with Mr. Jacq, who worked with him over the summer to help get a kickstart on some concepts he was struggling with, and also advised that this year there would be new health classes offered. Pete even went so far as to go catch a nacli to use in battle studies instead of Luna. They were pest pokemon on the farm, as they were attracted to the crop fertilizer but left behind salt that would damage roots. Pete figured he'd never get attached to one of those little buggers, and even left the nacli without a nickname... but inevitably he grew attached, and even caught himself calling him “Nackles”.
Now Pete feels fully ready for the upcoming year and is prepared for the challenge this time. He's even honed in on a new Treasure Hunt goal. He'd heard rumors from Arven about the mythical herbs that were said to cure all ailments, and when confronted, informed Pete of their previous locations, but that the last of them were gone now. If Pete could even discover seeds of those herbs, he had the farming ability to grow them, and the health classes could give him the knowledge to use them. This was his chance to make a huge impact on the world, and he was going to take it!
Pokémon: Rockruff Nickname: Luna Personality: Full of energy and spirit, Luna could brighten a room in an instant with her bubbly, contagious happiness. Pete has spoiled her and she is used to being treated like a human – she will turn her nose up at pokemon treats and dislikes going in her pokeball. She loves to battle, but Pete still hates to use her to fight. Ability: Vital Spirit Moveset: Tackle, Sand Attack, Double Team, Rock Throw
Pokémon: Nacli Nickname: Nackles Personality: Nackles is quiet and very low maintenance, not even being able to eat, and much more content with his pokeball than Luna is. His favorite thing to do is sit in the dirt and sunbathe. Ability: Purifying Salt Moveset: Harden, Mud Shot, Smack Down, Rock Polish
Quirks:
• Pete has a standard 45lb barbell in his dorm room • During his last year at the academy, he dated a few different students, though none of the relationships lasted long. He's tried to stave off it this year to avoid more distractions and heartache • He is pretty new to using a rotom phone, only getting one a year ago, and still just has it in a standard case • He has never been outside of Paldea, or has even traveled much within Paldea • This is his playlist so far, but it's pretty small atm, more will be added later
Relationships: [Blank for now, but I'm very open to brainstorming possible current or future relationships!]
