The reality of the matter... from the prospective I have based on what info I have on it, is that survival comes before trivial things. You cant afford to cater to trivial things if you dont have what ypu need to live. However... regardless of survival, there are consequences to each and every action. So in a way, though the father may have saved the son's life by providing the food, the son doesnt necessarily have to forgive the father for killing his friend. Life is... a very complicated and difficult beast to master... I'd venture to say no one has.

Because survival is more important. Even if the son wanted to keep his friend, even if he's angry, he still ate with the rest of the family because it was his only way to survive. When life is on the line, nothing else matters.

Survival is the most important thing, yes. But that doesnt mean the father's actions don't come with consequences. My advice? The father shpuldve done a bit more fishing and hunting during the active season. He couldve avoided that situation as a whole.
