I just realized this Interest Check might work better here as it does fit into multiple sub categories (1x1, small group, casual, advanced).
Thanks for reading.
I'm open to any feedback you may have on the structure of my Interest Check, as well, as I'm not used to making such
NOTE: I'm typically good at mirroring the level of my partner(s), and while the teaser post doesn't show it, getting into a character's thoughts comes naturally to me. Just to say, it may not reflect Advanced RP but I'm capable and can provide an Advanced sample (different scene) on request.
Xavier has received a message from someone (see Quick Notes). There's an impending situation in the area involving a mutant they've been remotely researching that they feel Xavier can help address or prevent. The task is likely to take him away for a few weeks, but other than that doesn't come across as too major. He feels the need to take only one of his X-Men with him to be on the safe side, and chooses Cyclops (that would be me).
But the trip will wind up being much more than anticipated, keeping them away for coming up on a couple months, and that's even before the reality of the situation becomes apparent - which will be a mix-take on the Proteus storyline from the Animated Series and the "Xavier has a highly powerful son he didn't know about" storyline.
Xavier and Cyclops will arrive at the facility and be told there's a young mutant in a city/town away from where the facility is located. They must go and collect this mutant and bring them back to the facility as their powers have been revealed to be quite unstable, and the attitude towards mutants in these areas has grown increasingly aggressive. They don't know if it's related to the young mutant's powers manifesting, but either way it's far safer for him to be relocated to the facility.
They're advised to take a circuitous route to where the mutant lives to try and avoid anti-mutant groups and other such undesirable attention. However this doesn't work out as planned (this is a large part of what delays them).
Once they finally have the young mutant with them, they decide a direct route back the better choice since avoiding one did nothing for them getting here, and they take a train. Unfortunately they meet with more adversity and during the ensuing fight Cyclops falls from the train - to Xavier's shock.
Of all people, Magneto appears using his powers to prevent the train from rolling over Cyclops (he may've had something to do with causing Cyclops to fall from the train in the first place) which causes a detour in the plot as Cyclops becomes the reluctant partner to Magneto, who leverages the solitary X-Man to assist him with something.
Though by the end of this forced arrangement, Cyclops finds himself unexpectedly ambivalent towards the leader of the Brotherhood.
Meanwhile, Xavier will both have had the sense Cyclops wasn't killed and will have recognized the use of Magneto's powers -if not sensing Magneto's presence himself- such that his attention reverts primarily back to his task at hand; he must trust Erik with his friend in the meantime.
Xavier will learn the truth of their mission by himself, and by the time Cyclops returns to him, the situation will have grown startlingly and personally intense - as all the while since the young mutant (Xavier's unknown son) has been with them, he'd been observing the Professor's interactions with Cyclops. Observing his reactions after Cyclops was separated from them, and possibly even using his powers to probe their minds at times (Xavier will have known he was doing this, but anything in Xavier's mind he wouldn't want someone to read is psychically locked away).
The boy knows who his father is. The truth is he found this out recently and has purposely been the cause of much of the trouble going on in this area, with the intent that his father, Professor of that special school, will be called.
The boy didn't expect the end of his trip to be the Facility.
And after having observed Xavier and Cyclops he's grown jealous, perceiving a father/son relationship between them that was supposed to be his.

Set Up:
Story
- 1x1 - you'll at least be playing Xavier and Magneto to my Cyclops and Xavier's Son (or you can play the son, as well. There's also the person who contacts Xavier; we can discuss division of characters). We'd be starting either from the point Xavier and Cyclops first arrive at the facility, or from another point decided on between us.
- 1x1 Split - if you only want to play Xavier but not Magneto, we can go normally up to the Magneto part, then I'll pair with somebody else for that portion (and either continue as Xavier's Son with you, or you can take a break and I'll call you back in once Cyclops and Xavier's plots reconvene). If you're only interested in playing Magneto, I'm up for jumping to that point ahead of anyone joining me as Xavier.
Note: If we're jumping ahead, I ask that we RP over PM. Any format is fine otherwise. - Small Group - would see us starting at a point when all characters would be in play, so likely at the point when Magneto shows up. I'd be Cyclops, someone would play Magneto, someone else Xavier, someone else Xavier's Son, and either a fifth player as the person who contacted Xavier or one of us four could cover her.
Story
- The person who contacts Xavier could be Moira from Muir Island, like the Proteus storyline from X-Men: The Animated Series, but it could also be someone else; an OC. The important details of the story is Xavier is contacted by someone he knows or knew, who works at some facility, the situation is somewhere off-continent or at least out of the country, and of course it involves his unknown son whose startling powers are causing or likely to cause serious problems.
By all means shoot me a line with a thought on detail - part of the point of RPing is to collaborate and riff off each other!
On top of the ongoing X-MEN theme of Civil Rights:
Further Story:
Jean Grey may become a part of this story.
During the intense "final battle" between Xavier, his son and Cyclops, Jean could get a premonition of this and come to the location ahead of, or in time to see, the end of the battle.
Or, Jean could get a since via her and Cyclops' psychic connection that something major is/has happened to him over there, arriving sometime after the battle when Cyclops is in the facility's Medical Bay.
In either case I have an idea for a spin-off story where Jean & Cyclops decide it's not safe for either of them in their present conditions to remain in this location (the high level/close proximity of anti-mutant groups; concerns of another flare up from Xavier's son; lack of security) - Xavier stays behind with his son (with whom he's also carefully preoccupied), while Jean and Cyclops try to return home. Only it's not as simple as walking back to the aircrafts that brought either of them here - things get complex and they're essentially on the run in this unfamiliar territory, while they figure out a "Plan 2" of how to leave.
Alongside the intensity of that, I want to explore some more personal details between them. In particular, when they first found out they were having a child, while both experienced levels of uncertainty given they hadn't planned for this right now -and given the world they'd be bringing their mutant child into- Scott soon came to a place of pragmatic optimism and quiet happiness. This was helping to settle Jean's mindset, and she was coming around to the same place he was; more or less comfortable anticipation. But after what Scott's experienced here, that disposition has given way to nerves; keyed up anticipation and at best, measured hope. The present has him too tangled up to see a the light of a "happy family" in the future; he can't look that far ahead. Once again his disposition is affecting the family right in front of him, but this time for the worse: Jean hating to see what this possible "last mission" has done to him, and what it might ultimately do to them.
As aforementioned, I don't mind RPing in chunks: if you think you'd like to give Jean Grey a whirl I'm happy to jump ahead and play that with you (over PM) ahead of having anyone to RP the main story with.
- Heroes & Villains Are Human
(we'll see Xavier brought down, and Magneto in a new light) - Fatherhood
- Choices/Self-Determination
