A scrawny kid with fair skin, bright green eyes complete with circular red rimmed glasses, and short brown hair. Cal is adorned with a series of freckles on his face and typically wears a nervous grin with a missing front tooth that's yet to grow in. He perpetually has dirt underneath his poorly cared for nails, and his t-shirt, vest, shorts, and crocs combo all sport earthly colors. He's of average height for his age, but will likely end up on the shorter end, though not disproportionately so. Cal sports a backpack that seems quite large compared to his own height, and has a pin on his vest that resembles an Oran Berry.

Background:

Cal lands dead center in the role of awkward nerd. He's a timid kid growing up in Fuchsia City, whose eyes light up whenever you give him an opportunity to ramble about one of the many things he's interested in. He does well in school, though it's clear to his teachers that he'd be a much better student if he focused more, and while not especially popular, he has a few friends he hangs around. After school, Cal usually finds himself helping his parents in their garden, enjoying the process of working in the dirt and helping grow things. Cal's always had an interest in Pokemon, every new fact he learns about a Pokemon feels like a prize to him, especially the weird ones. On one occasion he burst into tears when he found out that Gloom was considered an unpopular Pokemon because of its aroma, an event that ended up convincing his parents that despite his shared love for gardening, he'd probably be happier as a trainer. The promise of learning from a Pokemon Professor was what lead to Cal applying for the Pallet Town Scholarship.

Wishlist: I'm down with whatever Cal happens to stumble across, favoring the stranger looking and more 'unloved' Pokemon. But I'd love to get a Shuckle.

Niko stands at 5’1”. He has a round face, upturned brown eyes, and often has a huge smile on his face. His hair color is naturally dark brown, almost black, but he dyes it pink because pink is just a more fun color. He is very happy that he goes to a school doesn’t have natural hair colors as part of the dress code. He has a slim build. As far as his fashion sense is concerned, Niko doesn’t really have one. He just wears stuff he thinks looks cute. His favorite color is pink though, so your bound to see a lot of that in his wardrobe.

Background:
His mother and father are divorced, and he lives with his mother and little sister in Celadon City. He always had a fascination for cute things. He played with stuffed animals while other boys played sports. He even dyed his hair pink because he thought it was a more fun color than his natural brown. For this, he was often bullied. Niko always wore a smile on his face, and acted like the bullying never bothered him. He wanted to set an example for his little sister to look up to. He was the one who had to look after her when his mother was working. He also helped make dinners for the family, which gave him an interest in cooking. Additionally, Niko is estranged from his father. He wanted a son who would become the Pokémon League Champion one day. Obviously, Niko was not that. He was interested in Contests, and preferred to be a coordinator. While his mother was supportive, he was often yelled at and called a sissy by his father on the rare occasions they do see each other. Even still Niko doesn’t hate his dad, and hopes to reconcile with him.

I really like the concept and writing style, but I’m going to have to approve conditionally based on a small discrepancy in tone here:

I don’t want the father calling the son insults.
I understand that it’s a real and prevalent social issue irl and can understand wanting to include that family friction, but it does break the No Profanity rule.

Feel free to change the wording (eg. dad wanted to “raise a son”), or to remove it and let the friction with dad be implied.

Name: Amy Cooper
Age: 12
Pronouns: She/Her
Appearance: Amy is a young girl with large, inquisitive blue eyes. Her blonde hair falls all the way down her back, and has a slight wave to it. There are natural highlights and darker locks all throughout, which give her a somewhat unique appearance. She usually wears a navy-blue one-piece that has a frilled skirt and a white collar, along with some long dark socks and practical athletic shoes. But she also carries a red jacket in her backpack that belonged to her father when he was her age. She sometimes wears it when she wants to feel especially confident, or close to him. Amy has nice silver earrings and looks rather put-together overall, like she comes from a wealthy family.

Background: Amy was born to a renowned Pokemon researcher. Although he was often away from home doing field work, the young girl absolutely adored and idolized her father. Every time he came home it was like an unscheduled holiday. He was able to provide a nice life for his wife and daughter, so Amy never really wanted for much. They lived in a large house, and she was sent to a prestigious private school. Amy began to develop a cool-headed and investigative personality, perhaps out of a desire to impress her father and her peers. She focused more on her studies rather than extra-curricular activities, and her efforts really paid off. In place of a club, she would often be taken on hikes in the forest by a family friend, which gave her a chance to play, let loose, and develop some survival skills. Those weekends were some of her most exciting memories, and they helped give her the courage to make her family proud and become a Pokemon trainer.

First choice: Charmander
Key Item: Unown Report - a detailed copy of research carried out by her father at the ruins of Alph. The findings have yet to be published. The subject is a rare and practically unknown type of Pokemon which look like letters. Amy has taken an interest in them as well. (Trying to set up a plot hook for later on in the story. I'm hopeful that we can eventually do something interesting with them)
