R U L E S & R E G U L A T I O N S:

▼ 1 . 0 . 0 - C H A R A C T E R C R E A T I O N:

► 1 . 1 . 0 - As the GM, I reserve the right to deny, veto or otherwise reject any character application based on any number of factors that I find make the character unfit for this roleplay. This can include player history, perceived literacy, lack of understanding of the game's concept, unruly behavior in the iCheck/OOC or towards the GM, other players or simply a generally poor attitude. Other reasons for application denial will be listed in the following rules.

► 1 . 2 . 0 - All Character Sheets must be submitted to the GMs using the provided skeleton. Character Sheets which do not use the provided skeleton will be rejected and asked to comply with the set standard. This code can be found provided below the rules. Please remember to change the capitalized 'HR' to 'hr' in order for the horizontal lines to work correctly.

► 1 . 2 . 1 - Incomplete or in progress sheets should not be posted in the OOC nor should they be posted in the character tab. Completed sheets ready for review are the only character sheets which should be posted in the OOC. If you need a place to store a work in progress sheet, you can create a PM with yourself or a Character Archive thread.

► 1 . 2 . 2 - Completed sheets are to be posted in the Out of Character Thread for review until approved. Once approved you may move your sheet into the Character Thread for storage. Once the sheet is put into the Character Thread it becomes a contract to between yourself and the GM, meaning this is the character you have signed on to play and you will not alter or change anything about the character without first gaining the GM's permission to amend the sheet.

► 1 . 3 . 0 - Character Sheet reviews will be provided to you via PM and each review will contain a verdict on the character's acceptance along with a list of reasoning why the character was accepted, conditionally accepted or out right denied. You will be allotted one appeal per review, up to a grand total of three reviews. If the sheet is not in the GM's liking after the thread review, it will be denied and you will not be allowed to apply again. These three reviews count towards different characters as well should you change characters after your first one was denied.

► 1 . 3 . 1 - Reviews will be sent to the player within 24 hours of a posted completed sheet. Please try to understand that in the event of numerous character sheets being submitted in the same day or due to obligations outside of Crestwood Hollow there may be the occasional delay in this process.

► 1 . 3 . 2 - In the event of a reasonable delay, any displays of impatience towards the GMs will result in an immediate dismissal of the application and thus a denial towards the player participating in the RP. As the players, the GMs have lives and obligations outside of the roleplay and may not always be able to respond in a rapid manner. Please have patience and a postivie attitude adn you will receive a response in a timely manner.

► 1 . 4 . 0 - You can create any superhuman mold you want with tact. All invincible superhumans or obvious imitations of DC or Marvel characters will be judged harshly. If you must make a 'monstrous' character/power, I advise you to make your character dual sided so they may blend with the regular people. Your abilities should also be a secret to anyone outside of the character’s circle of trust, remember people are afraid of what they don't understand and super powers are a new concept to the world. People will not be willing to accept them very quickly.

► 1 . 4 . 1 - In line with above rule, do not make your character well rounded, give them weaknesses and flaws. Limitations in their skills and abilities, reasons to make them need a team to support them. Additionally, give your character room to grow and develop. It's always fun to have a new power show up down the line, just give the GM a heads up first so it doesn't look like you're godmodding.

► 1 . 4 . 2 - Due to the in game statistics there’s limitations on the number of Celestial, Draoi and Venari characters. Augmented, Hyperhuman and Mundane characters have no such limitation in this regard however. At most there will only be two Celestial players at one point, a maximum of five Draoi players, a maximum of four Hellions and a maximum of three Venari.

► 1 . 4 . 3 - It is asked that you refrain from using animated/drawn images in your character sheets in order to reflect the tone of the RP. Characters and stories should also follow this tone but some 'Silver Age' silliness is encouraged in order to maintain a 'Comic Book' feel. The majority of the tone of the RP is however set to resemble a mix between the live action cinematic universes and television series such as Heroes.

► 1 . 5 . 0 - Character sheets will not be accepted until the GMs have had time to look over the CS thoroughly. This not only ensures that we the GMs have time to read through Character Sheets appropriately but also that you the Player are receiving proper critique as well as a solid community to interact with in the In Character Threads. We appreciate your patience with this.

► 1 . 6 . 0 - All Character Sheets must be submitted to the GMs in the provided or similarly laid out format. Character Sheets which do not use an organized skeleton will be rejected and asked to comply with a standard. Displays of impatience towards acceptance will result in an immediate denial. The GMs have lives outside of roleplaying and may have their time restricted during the week and/or weekend. Have patience and a positive attitude and you will receive a response.

► 1 . 7 . 0 - Players are allowed one character to start. You allowed to create secondary characters after you make several posts. I just request that if you make multiple characters that you don’t have them constantly playing off each other.

► 1 . 8 . 0 - Failure to adhere to any of the character creation rules will lead to rejection of the application with a citation of the broken rule(s). Permission to re-apply will be given on a case by case basis depending on the rule(s) broken and the quality of the application. Critique will be given on Character Sheets which don't break any rules but aren't quite up to an acceptable standard. Please be willing to work with the GM in the event of this.

▼ 2 . 0 . 0 - P L O T C R E A T I O N:

► 2 . 1 . 0 - As the GM, I reserve the right to deny, veto or otherwise reject any plot application based on any number of factors that I find make the plot unfit for this roleplay. This can include player history, perceived literacy, lack of understanding of the game's concept, unruly behavior in the IC/OOC or towards the GM, other players or simply a generally poor attitude. Other reasons for application denial will be listed in the following rules.

► 2 . 2 . 0 - All Plot Sheets must be submitted to the GMs using the provided skeleton. Plot Sheets which do not use the provided skeleton will be rejected and asked to comply with the set standard. This code can be found provided below the rules. Please remember to change the capitalized 'HR' to 'hr' in order for the horizontal lines to work correctly.

► 2 . 2 . 1 - Incomplete or in progress sheets should not be posted in the OOC nor should they be posted in the character tab. As plot sheets contain details that you as the plot moderater will not want your players knowing, these sheets should only be submitted by private message to avoid 'Spoilers'.

► 2 . 2 . 2 - Completed sheets are to be submitted to the GM via private message for review until approved. Once approved the GM will add your plot submission to the OP at the beginning of the next arc. Once the sheet is accepted it becomes a contract to between yourself and the GM, meaning this is the plot you have signed on to play and you will not alter or change anything about the plot without first gaining the GM's permission to amend the sheet or act differently within the IC.

► 2 . 3 . 0 - As the plot's author, you are expected to act as the moderator of the plot. Plot submissions are not for you to give the GM ideas to run, they are for you to pitch an idea that you'd be willing to moderate in the IC. In the event of a dropout, the GMs will step in to conclude the plot if necessary.

► 2 . 4 . 0 - Plot submissions should not be personal plots. This means your plot should be designed to accommodate at least a minimum of four people. The plot should not focus around your character, you're more than able to do that without submitting a plot to the GMs.

▼ 3 . 0 . 0 - O U T O F C H A R A C T E R:

► 3 . 1 . 0 - Respect the Game Masters. The GM's words are to be adhered, don't argue or disregard them unnecessarily. If a GM asks you to stop doing something please do it. Likewise if a GM asks you to change something in your post please do it. Failure to adhere to any GM or Moderator requests will result in expulsion from the game.

► 3 . 2 . 0 - Respect the other players. Constructive criticism is fine, but flaming or trying to run players off just because you don't like the way they do things is not okay. Remember, it's the GM's job, not yours, to point out if there's a problem. If you feel that there is a problem, then contact a GM directly.

► 3 . 3 . 0 - Likewise any quarrels will be dealt with by the GMs. Don't take them out in the OOC, arguments should be dealt with between the two parties through private messaging. If the involved parties truly can't solve their issues a GM can act as an arbiter upon request.

► 3 . 4 . 0 - No GIF Wars. This is a thread for discussion of the roleplay, its characters and plots. This is not a Spam Thread. Chat is allowed and encouraged but within reason, please try not to fill the OOC with numerous pages that have little to nothing to do with the roleplay itself. An active OOC generally means an active roleplay so feel free to chat up your fellow players about characters and events in the RP.

▼ 4 . 0 . 0 - I N C H A R A C T E R:

► 4 . 1 . 0 - Absolutely no 'OOC' chatter in the In Character Thread. If you have a question or anything to explain there is an Out Of Character Thread provided. You have no excuse to make an 'OOC' comment in the IC and if done it will be heavily frowned upon.

► 4 . 2 . 0 - You are your character, so act like them. Create or portray their mannerisms, powers, and ideals to how they have been established in the game. BE the character, not just yourself with the character's powers. The notes section of your CS has been provided for such a reason, use it to help yourself remain consistent in character portrayals.

► 4 . 3 . 0 - Writing expectations for this roleplay are at least two (2) well developed paragraphs as a minimum per post. Three (3) to five (5) paragraph posts however would be awesome so long as you're not simply chewing the scenery. Proper spelling and grammar is also expected but small mistakes here and there are understandable. Blatant offenses will be called out.

► 4 . 4 . 0 - You are required to post at least once within ten (10) days after the GM Plot Post advances the RP. Extensions will only be given in extenuating circumstances. Please recognize your limitations before joining the RP, if you are unable to post once every ten days, then it's highly likely that you do not have enough time to keep up with the RP.

► 4 . 4 . 1 - In the event that you do miss the ten day deadline, your character will be listed as 'inactive'. After a further week of inactivity, your character will be expelled, and dealt with as necessary in the IC, whether killed or used as needed and then discarded. This whole process is simply easier if you just let the GM know if you're unable to keep up or simply have lost interest in the RP.

► 4 . 4 . 2 - If you find yourself in a plot with another player and they disappear, do your best to move on without them and quickly finish the arc to the best of your ability, or ask for the help of a GM.

► 4 . 5 . 0 - No God-Modding or metagaming. This refers to controlling or manipulating another player's character in way that is completely self-beneficial and not pre-approved by the other player. This also includes being untouchable against NPC characters as well as being all knowing. Keep your character humanized or risk being expelled from the RP.

► 4 . 6 . 0 - This is a Character Driven RP, and as such you are encouraged and expected to take charge of your character's sub-plots and storylines. There will be a heavy emphasis on collaborative activities and team building as well. The GMs will be leading the RP in the traditional sense with a driving plot and will ensure the RP keeps moving however we do want to see you develop your characters and produce your own plots. However we don't want to see you lock your character out of interaction and focus solely on your character and their 'world'. No one enjoys watching you play with yourself, it's always better to let someone else join in on the fun.

► 4 . 6 . 1 - Player Character's are not to be killed without permission nor that player's supporting cast members. It is fine to kill nameless NPC's, but PC's or important NPC's will require authorization by their creator except in the event of a GM event.

► 4 . 7 . 0 - Plots should not be completed in one or two posts. Your character should not be able to stop an entire robbery by themselves or put out a city block on fire with relative ease. That said obviously different power levels do apply so if you do manage to put out the fire, solve the cause of it. If you stop the robbery find out who hired the gang or what their motives were. If all else fails do some character development or show us some ‘Slice of Life’ moments for you character if you do solve a plot quickly.

▼ 5 . 0 . 0 - S E X U A L C O N T E N T:

► 5 . 1 . 0 - This is an open world RP and I realize that relationships are a part of this. While I have no problem with this I do want it kept a specific way to avoid breaking any rules. As part of RPG's rule, mature content is forbidden on the forums. You may however use the standard fade-to-black technique if you desire and that will be fine, just keep it PG-13/14A (May contain: violence, coarse language and/or sexually suggestive scenes.) both leading and following up. I implore you to keep within the age restrictions set up already by administration. As such, let’s keep it simple, ages 14-17 can have relationships with each other and likewise for 18-22. Obviously there's some grey area in there and I'd understand 16-18 should also be a range but please just use your common sense if you're going to seek a relationship within the RP. You have been warned of my expectations on this matter and should you fail to follow through you will be asked to leave the roleplay and reported for breaking site rules.

▼ 6 . 0 . 0 - C O M M I T M E N T & C O N S I S T E N C Y:

► 6 . 1 . 0 - If you join this RP, if you take the time to submit an application, I'm putting my faith in you that you'll be committed to it and that the character you play will be consistent with the one in the agreed upon CS. Personally, I have a hard time with this sometimes and I understand that things just happen. That said I’m referring to suddenly giving a character new powers with no explanation or completely changing their backstory in order to add new skills. I’m okay with changes but I’d like a heads-up first so perhaps we can work a more natural way towards these things happening. In terms of commitment, dropping out of the RP randomly for whatever reason is a pain or a GM. Simply put, it wastes my time along with the other players. If you do not think you can join and you're sure something will come up, do not join. Tendency to not care about an RP after a while? Don't join. Simple as that. I will work with you when it comes to bumps in the road. If you think you're going to be out for a couple of days, that's fine. I'll find a way to excuse you from the story or play your character. However, please let the group known as far in advance as possible. If you're going on a trip, tell me something. Do not leave me wondering where you are. Let me know so I can keep things going. I will work around you if you work with me when you can.

F . A . Q .:

Is this an original universe superhero RP?
Yes it is.

Can I make an original character?
Yes, in fact that would be preferable to adapting a character original conceived for another RP. However there is no penalty for re-using a character and it won't slow or affect your acceptance. I just prefer fresh ideas.

Do real world locations exist?
Simply yes, while Crescent City itself is a fictitious version of a real city, it is still set inside the very real state of New Hampshire and country known as the United States of America. Real world cities such as New York, San Francisco, all exist with no changes outside of the technological advancements made in the lore.

How many players are you looking for?
My original intention is to have an always open RP keeping in mind that players tend to come and go. That said if at any one time, the player counts gets over 20 I will temporarily close acceptances until I have inactive players to remove from the roster.

What kind of powers am I allowed to use?
The ideal powersets will be those which allow the character to affect the world around them. I encourage a variable level of powersets, don't try to be at the top of your game, nor necessarily just learning about your powers. I encourage you to write a character whose abilities have room to grow and develop for these are often the most engaging story lines.

Can my character use magic, be a vampire/werewolf/god/alien etc?
The short answer is yes, the longer answer is yes but it must fit within the defined lore. Magic characters could be either a Draoi, Venari or Hellion depending on how magic is used. Vampires and Werewolves both would be Hellions while aliens and gods would more likely be classified under Celestial, though the latter might be a Hellion pending on how they are written.

Can I have more than one character?
It is requested that you start with one character and make several posts before creating another. That said the answer is yes just not immediately.

Can my character be bad/evil?
As VIGILANCE provides an open world environment, your character may be of whatever alignment that you wish. That said, if you plan to wreak havoc upon the city, you will need to submit a plot to a GM for approval first. If you simply wish to rob a store you may go ahead or if you wish to team up with another evil character’s plot then you need to ask the player in charge of it. Likewise good players are free to roam the city and stop petty crime but if you wish to stop a crime ring you need to submit a plot or join a plot that otherwise satisfies your needs.

Can my secondary character be evil?
See the above point.

Can I create a new faction?
Yes, definitely. While I have tried to populate the world the best I can, there's nothing stopping you from creating a new gang, organization or company as needed. If it is fleshed out enough I will add it to the corresponding section.

Can I create a new race?
Short answer is no, longer answer is that both the Hellion and Celestial faction are basically blank slates with the Celestials having much more leniency. As Celestial is a catch all term for all aliens, they aren't of a defined appearance. Likewise, Hellion is a catch all for supernatural creatures, I do prefer however if Hellions are based on myths, legends and folklore.

What's the plot going to be like?
There is going to be multiple plots at all time. The GM will provide the primary over arcing plot which will firstly follow recovering the city before working into a much larger plot. However there will be numerous secondary plots going on at all time. To begin with the GM has provided a couple however after the first ‘chapter’, secondary plots will be able to be player submitted. If a player submitted plot is approved it will be posted in that section detailing how many players the submitter is looking for a general summary of that plot. These plots will be able to range in variety as they are up to you the player to design.

This is where you outline your vision for the character. This should be a short summary providing just enough information to establish the character's archetype, primary characterization, and their journey through life thus far. This is not a detailed backstory, so the character sheet should not be submitted with one. That information will be revealed over the course of the roleplay, the character concept however should give both the players and GM an idea of who the character is and how their story may unfold. This doesn't prevent you from subverting expectations or including any red herrings, however.

Absolute Comics Presents...

Time.

Space.

Reality.

It's more than a linear path. It's a prism of endless possibility, where a single choice can branch out into infinite realities, creating alternate worlds from the ones you know. I am the Watcher. I am your guide through these vast new realities. Follow me and ponder the question...
S E C R E T I N V A S I O N
~An Absolute Comics Roleplay~

G A M E C O N C E P T:
What if is built on the idea of how altering even one detail can greatly alter the stories of the characters we all know and love. As a basic premise, the world is already altered by the presence of both DC and Marvel characters, locations, technologies and all other associated concepts. Players will collaboratively flesh out and build the world, telling stories that exist exclusively alongside each other and inclusively intersect, overlap and build a brand new world filled with answers to the question...

What if?

Season One: What if Earth was Ground Zero to a Secret War?(WIP)

Dropped characters would be able to be written off as doppelgangers or replacements.

S T O R Y P R E M I S E:
Aliens live among us. For the past ninety years, metahumans, mutants and the battles between superheroes and supervillains have dominated the lives of everyone on the planet Earth. Heroes such as the Superman from Krypton and the Manhunter from Mars have made life from other planets an accepted part of daily life. But unbeknownst to even the watchful eye of S.H.I.E.L.D., key figures on Earth have begun to disappear, only to be replaced by hostile alien imposters positioning for a Secret War between alien races. An arms race between the Skrulls and the White Martians has been brewing beneath the surface for several years now and threatens to come to a head.

All across the globe, crime has risen exponentially and many of the world's superpowers are in international turmoil as a direct causality between the warring factions. Even unaware of the foes at home, Earth is now forced to face a threat on a third front as the Reach has begun carving an aggressive path toward Earth.

More than ever, Earth needs her heroes. Who will answer the call?

Secret Invasion/Secret War

OU RP with loosely defined history. Organizations and dates, no character names.
Plot inspired by Secret Invasion, YJ Invasion and JL Pilot.

Hidden factions include the Skrulls and the Martians, possibly the Reach. People being replaced by aliens, all while the above factions fight to control Earth.

Skrulls
White Martians
The Reach
Kroloteans

Rising crime, international turmoil and other struggles a direct causality of the 'Secret War'

-WWI
-The Defenders?
-WWII
-Justice Society founded in the wake of World War II
-The SSR offers the JSA an ultimatum of join, and become government superheroes or forcible retire, resistance meant unmasking and/or jail time.

■ Fixed - Events determined by the GM that are essential to the RP.
◆ Malleable - Events that are proposed by the GM but can be modified prior to the RP starting pending Players and Characters.
▶ Player - Events determined by Player submitted sheets.

What's different about this RP versus past One Universe Games?

The biggest difference this time around is that players will have the option to indicate if they want their character to have been, or to be replaced by a member of the warring alien factions. If this offer is accepted, they will receive a private message from the GM, informing them that their offer has been accepted and any further required details can be determined at that time. This allows players to take ownership over parts of the main plot, and contribute to driving the antagonistic side of the RP. In some instances, it may even be a member of a character's rogue gallery that has been replaced rather than the primary POV themselves so that players are able to unravel the mystery of the Secret War and prevent the Invasion

Players may take the role of any hero or villain from the DC and Marvel universes. Exceptions to this include characters which appeared due to crossovers with other franchises. This includes characters from Godzilla, Power Rangers, Star Trek and Star Wars. Other characters may be rejected on a case by case basis.

Team applications may be submitted by one person, or a group of players may collaborate on a Team of characters and have a designated player submit one sheet on their behalf. Teams exempted from team applications include the Justice League and the Avengers. Not all teams are equal and the eligibility of each team application will be evaluated on a case by case basis.

If a player applies as a team by themselves but are open to other players taking the reigns of specific characters or otherwise helping with their concept, they may indicate so on their sheet. In which case, perspective players will fall primarily under their purview, although the GM reserves the right to final say in all player acceptances. Should a solo player not want anyone else involved with their team, they have no obligation to entertain inquiries.

In the event of competing applications, if both parties are amicable to it, one player may opt to have their interpretation be an alien imposter. The players need only declare this via PM, the imposter does not need to be identified publically in the OOC at the time of applying to encourage development in the In Character thread.

Skrulls - The Skrulls see Earth as their rightful new home due in part to a prophecy among their people's extremist zealots. As such the Skrulls have been planting themselves among the population secretly to seize power from within. This plan has been complicated due to a similar ploy by the White Martians.
-Skrulls have the numbers and resources, but their abilities pale in comparison to the Martians.
-Skrulls are capable of advanced shapeshifting which includes transforming into both organic and inorganic objects along with selective transformation for either parts or the whole of their body.

White Martians - Hiding among humans, having experimented on them eons ago, creating the Metagene. A minority on Mars, the White Martians are angling to take Earth for their own and use humanity to overcome their own weaknesses.
-In terms of numbers, there is only approximately one Martian Terrorist for every hundred Skrull soldiers. But Martians are stronger, faster and overall make up for it in abilities. They however lack the resources and organization of the Skrull army and tend to be much more individually motivated.

The Reach - Chasing both Skrulls and Martians to add their unique abilities to their ranks.
-A dangerous hive-mind collective. The Reach assimilates their worthy foes with a Scarab turning them into one of their own. Those who are unworthy of this honour or put to slave labour or simply turned to nutrient paste for the hive.

Kroloteans - Overgrown space cockroaches, wandering goblin-like race.

P R E M I S E:
P R E M I S E:

Sensation & Wonder is a collaborative linear sandbox roleplay that uses the ideas presented in Marvel and DC Comics' various media to create new and exciting stories using familiar elements and characters. To those of you asking exactly what a collaborative linear sandbox is, I define this style of game as a compilation of linear stories written by multiple groups of people that interact and mesh to great one persistent game within the same sandbox. If that's as clear as mud for you, let me try to clean it up.

Players will apply to the game using one of the provided character skeletons. Using these skeletons they'll choose a character and indicate whether they wish to be a 'Driving', 'Roaming' or 'Supporting' character. Driving characters are assertive players who wish to create plots and story arcs that no only they can write out, but also invite others to collaborate on and complete with. Roaming characters are for players who want to mingle with the greater game and write both solo and with as many other players as possible. Lastly, Supporting characters are for players who want to lock in on a specific plot being direct by someone else and write alongside them.

In-game history is decided on a first-come, first-serve basis. However, it should not be designed in a manner that locks out another player from taking on a favourite role. To give an example, if a player applies as Dick Grayson before an application has been received for Bruce Wayne, then the player applying as Grayson can decide to portray Dick as Robin, Nightwing or even Batman. No matter which of these roles the Grayson player chooses, it has an effect on a future Bruce Wayne player.

Due to the inclusive nature of the roleplay, a Bruce Wayne player would have to craft their CS to reflect a Bruce who allows for opportunities for a Grayson player or other notable members of the Bat-family. For instance, if the Grayson player chooses to be Nightwing, then the Bruce Wayne player will need to portray an older Batman. Even if a ‘Dick-Bats’ could block a player from playing Bruce Wayne as Batman, it shouldn’t necessarily block Bruce Wayne as a character. If so desired by both parties, a Batman Inc.-like scenario could even be worked out. It should also be noted that villains are just as viable of characters and applying for Captain America does not mean another player can't join as Red Skull.

It is important to remember that interaction, much like any role-play, is the bread and butter of the game. To that end, players are encouraged to work together to create a mutually desired outcome for all those involved. Classic teams ups such as Batman and Robin or Wolverine and Hawkeye are always welcome but don't forget, this is a One Universe Rp where the Devil of Hell's Kitchen can work alongside Gotham's Dark Knight.

S O U R C E M A T E R I A L:
S O U R C E M A T E R I A L:

As previously mentioned this roleplay allows players to draw upon characters from not only just the DC and Marvel Universes, but also other characters may be considered on a case by case basis if they fit the tone and feel of the game. Priority, however, will be given to characters who originate from within either DC or Marvel Comics and their subsidiaries.

Your character concept can be based on any iteration of the character. In terms of career, try to keep the greater goal of the game in mind, and characters with legacies ideally should be further along in their careers to allow for inclusivity of other players. That said, please don't let this lead you to believe origin stories have no place here. Origins can be told conventionally, with the assistance of other players or through flashbacks and other framing devices.

In regards to what any iteration of the character means for you as a player, is that this world's Spider-Man could currently be Miles Morales, Iron Man could be replaced by Iron Heart, Batman could be Terry McGinnis. This also means that some heroes might just be starting out, perhaps the Teen Titans were just formed? Maybe Scott Summers just found out he was a mutant? The changes and possibilities are near endless but are sure to create a unique world for us to tell our own takes on these 'modern myths'.

G A M E P L A Y:
G A M E P L A Y:

PLAYER ROLES:
In past games using the Absolute Comics format, the idea has been to submit a character and then write that character and its numerous supporting cast. This system has had mixed results with some players excelling particularly well with where others felt locked out of the game very quickly. Unfortunately, the biggest downside to that system has been the latter result with numerous fan favourites being locked up in another player's NPC list. For Sensation & Wonder, I wanted to take a crack at changing that system. Instead, we'd like to encourage those players who enjoy driving their own plots to do so but to also consider taking on other players in the place of NPCs. Almost like a 'micro-RP' within an RP so to speak. Below are the three player archetypes, each with more information laid out about the expectations of each role.

D R I V I N G:
Driving Characters are built around the idea that a more assertive player will produce an application containing not only their desired character POV but also a story arc that encourages other players to join up with them. To give this idea a practical example, say Player A applies to the game as Batman in a Driving Role. The player could then state in their sheet that they are desiring to play Batman at a later point in his career when the Joker after a long time absent has returned to Gotham to torment the Bat.

This gives others an idea of what sort of plot they'd be signing up for if they applied as a Supporting Character or even a Roaming. Player A could then state in their application that they're specifically looking for two or three other players to help them out, or one dedicated supporting player to portray Robin while one or two others are encouraged to jump in as Roaming Characters to aid for shorter Chapters or arcs.

R O A M I N G:
Roaming characters are the middle ground for players who don't quite want to commit to driving plots constantly but also don't necessarily want to tether themselves to another player. A Roaming Character is designed to jump in and out of various plots where there's a role or need they can fill. That said, being a Roaming Character doesn't give you a free pass to jump-in where you please. You as a player should still be invited to the plot.

Keeping with my theme, Nightwing works well as a Roaming character because he can easily aid Batman for one arc, pal around with the Titans the next, and then face off against a villain player for a third arc. Roaming characters are aided by having a loose personal plot connecting the reasons why they bounce around, but it's not necessary if you just want to have some drop-in and out fun.

S U P P O R T I N G:
Supporting Characters are a more passive role in this game. Closer to traditional roleplaying, a Supporting Character is created to fulfil a particular purpose or plot. Keeping in line with the above example, if a Batman player wanted to play through a retelling of 'A Death in the Family', a supporting character could sign up as Robin or Joker. Both characters have an expiration date at the end of the plot, but the Driving Character would go on to create a new story to carry out upon its completion. Supporting Characters are also ideal for players who like to write as a character for a bit and then swap to someone new.

Supporting characters do not necessarily have to be dropped upon the completion of an arc however if you're enjoying your character, you can continue to play them and change to either a Driving or Roaming character if your original writing partner has no further plans for you or you could join up with another Driving player.

ROLE SWITCHING:
You may switch the role you wish your character to play as at any time it makes sense to do so. By this, I mean that if you're currently driving a plot, don't decide to suddenly want to play only in a supporting capacity. However, if at the completion of that plot, you decide that you'd prefer to play a Supporting Role moving forward, you are well within your power to do. Likewise, someone who started in a Supporting or Roaming Role may take the reins and become a Driving Character when the opportunity presents itself. There is no requirement to resubmit a sheet when switching roles, however, if transitioning to driving you should make your plot known so others have the opportunity to express interest.

CHARACTERS:
Players are allowed and encouraged to apply as either heroes or villains. Players are not allowed to shoot down other apps unless they are A) already accepted to the game and B) that particular character is directly named in their plot and they already have someone lined up to play the part. If a player expresses interest in a character you want to appear in your plot, it is highly preferred that you take the time to work with them and collaborate instead of simply denying them. That said, I understand some players are about as compatible as oil and water.

If two players truly can't get along, the GM will side with the player who was accepted first. For example, if Player A was accepted as Green Arrow and detailed a plot involving Brick, they can't protest if Player B applies as Deathstroke. If Player A however did include Deathstroke in their plot, then it would be preferred they find a way to include Player B. If neither player is accepted and have conflicting applications, then it is encouraged they find a way to compromise. GMs will intervene when necessary.

With the inclusion of villains, there is potential for player versus player combat. Players should discuss in advance the desired outcome of their story or collaborate on it in some way. If both players were accepted with plots separate from one another and Player A finishes their plot and decides they want to fight the character that Player B holds next, they must coordinate with them. They can't poach the character, nor can they force the ending they want. Likewise, if Player B for some reason found themselves without a plot, they can't simply jump into Player A's story unless it is agreed about outside of the IC thread.

COMIC BOOK TIME & GHOST WRITING:
Sometimes as a writer, you're tied up in your own plot but another pops up that you'd like your character to be part of. As a comic book game, posts in the IC thread do not necessarily need to be linear. If you as Player A are running a plot but Player B is doing a Cross-Over with a team your character is affiliated with, you can write both simultaneously.

Likewise, characters appear in numerous issues each month written by several different authors. In Sensation & Wonder, we're inviting you to also use that to your advantage. If you're particularly fond of someone's interpretation of a character and would like to use them in a 'Supporting' or 'Roaming' spot for a Chapter, you may approach the controlling player and ask to do so. That player is allowed to flat-out deny you, or they can lend their character out with as many or few guidelines as they see fit for you to write the Chapter with. In this instance, you're given temporary control over a character as a guest or ghostwriter to carry out a Chapter elsewhere while the controlling player continues their own story. The controlling player may ask to proofread any or all posts or ask for you to retract or edit posts as they see fit if actions or instances don't match their vision.

CHAPTERS:
'Chapters' is simply a fun name for contained player plots and story arcs. These are the stories told by you the player and governed by those of you who take on the 'Driving' role. Sometimes these Chapters may be the work of one person, other times it may be the work of a duo or even a small party of players who created something together.

This is the bread and butter of the RP, moving it forward and filling out the world as players work together to tell stories and build the setting that directly impacts not only their character but also those playing alongside them in 'Supporting' and 'Roaming' roles. There's no defined length for a Chapter, it could be as short as a single post or as long as a story spanning over thirty posts. Think of a Chapter as an episode of a television show or a single comic issue.

It is essential that all players contribute towards the Chapters in the IC and drive their characters both independently and together. Equally, it is important to read other player's Chapters and make note of significant events or even just 'broadcasted' ones to reference and relate to within your own posts. Small efforts like this go a long way in making the world feel alive and connected.

Don't feel you have to be joined at the hip at all times though, the same plot could be told through two characters without them constantly need to be in the room at all times. To bring about a great recent example, re-examine 'Falcon and the Winter Solder', while Sam and Bucky spent the impactful scenes together if it wasn't for the events they accomplished apart the story would not have fully come together.

CROSSOVERS:
Crossovers are the icing on the cake, this is where the larger picture starts to form. A crossover is defined here as a player coordinated and driven interaction between two or more character plots in the IC. To phrase it another way, it's when two or more 'Driving' character plots converge on the same thread. Like a 'team-up' between Flash and the Green Arrow that brings in all those associate characters. A Crossover may be as simple as a one-time team up or a small part of a larger over-arching story depending on the ambitions of the player(s) coordinating the story and those involved. There is no limit as to how many crossovers can take place at any one time as they will be completely moderated by those involved and not the GM Team.

Crossovers may take place in a single city or even multiple, spanning up to a national event depending on the number of players involved in the current crossover. Players are not required to participate in a crossover if they do not want to, and if you have approached a player and they have turned you, we ask that you please respect their wishes. That said, all players should consider participating in a crossover from time to time if only to recharge and avoid burnout due to lack of interaction. You will never be required to remain within the crossover for its entire run unless you become integral to its story, which case it is only respectful to do so.

Ultimately, the structure of each crossover will be dependent upon the player(s) organizing it. It should be noted that a crossover should never change the status quo of the game, and while consequences and fallout is encouraged, it should be limited to only those involved unless special permissions have been granted.

CRISES:
Crises are large-scale events that affect the roleplay on a massive scale. These events can be global, universal or even multi-dimensional. Ideally, the occurring Crisis will affect all players, but all players need not directly contribute to the Crisis at hand. The outcome of these events will affect the roleplay's status quo, wiping the slate clean or drastically changing the present world. This could mean something like DC's Rebirth where abandoned characters can be reset allowing new players to assume their roles without the need to continue previous stories, or Marvel's Civil War where characters and their beliefs will be challenged, changing the alignment of different characters and the shape of different team rosters. These events won't take place often but when they do, they will be designed to directly impact the RP.

All players will initially be allotted one Driving Character Concept, to begin with. However, players may have as many Roaming and Supporting Characters as they feel they can handle. These concepts may be any character from the Marvel or DC Universe. If applying as a 'Team Concept', a combination roster may be allowed at the scrutiny of the GM Team. Characters originally appearing in Manga or Anime are heavily discouraged because of their incompatibility with western superhero comics. Other comic titles discouraged are those belonging to science fiction genres such as Transformers, Star Trek, and Star Wars. We will judge all properties from outside of the Marvel and DC Universes on a case-by-case basis provided they fit the themes and tones of the game, but the above limitations are definitive.

We will grant a second Driving Character to players at the end of their first season within the game, provided they meet the following criteria. We will grant secondary concepts to players who remained consistent throughout the season, posting regularly of their own accord. The player should not be abrasive towards either the GMs or the other players, instead, inspiring the community and helping the game flourish. To summarize, players need to meet three criteria:

  • Be part of the game for a minimum of one Season
  • Post consistently over the course of the Season preceding the application
  • Contribute to the game and community positively (i.e. Comment on posts and discussions, take part in Crises, create Crossovers etc)

Players can compete for characters if an application for your desired character is posted ahead of yours and has not yet been accepted. To compete for a character, you have a twenty-four (24) hour window to state your intent to compete. The competing application(s) will then be given a seventy-two (72) hour deadline in which both players must submit their samples if they have not done so already. The GM Team will then judge the two competing applications. The winner will be selected by who the GMs believe portrays the character better and has a stronger concept. During this competition, the GMs may also vet a player's history to check for posting consistency or previous incidents of abrasive behaviours to better weigh their options.

In terms of character creation, you are free to overhaul and redesign any canon character from one of the aforementioned publishers. This means you can tell the story of the character how you believe it should be told. However, there is one major limitation, the heart and soul of the character must stay intact. The character should not be changed so much that they're unrecognizable. This means that Batman can't be a cold-blooded killer any more than Spider-Man can be a rich, well-off playboy. Every aspect of the character that isn't a key to their major identity is malleable, this can even include sex and abilities if so desired.

Absolutely no 'OOC' chatter in the In Character Thread. If you have a question or anything to explain there is an Out Of Character Thread provided. You have no excuse to make an 'OOC' comment in the IC and if done it will be heavily frowned upon. If you require a more immediate answer, don't hesitate to directly ask the GM Team or relevant player through tagging, PM or other methods.

Writing expectations for this roleplay are at least two (2) well-developed paragraphs as a minimum per post. Three (3) to five (5) paragraph posts, however, would be awesome so long as you're not simply chewing the scenery. Proper spelling and grammar are also expected but small mistakes here and there are understandable. Blatant offences will be called out.

You are required to post at least once per character within a fourteen (14) day period. There will be a post-check-in, once per week performed by the GMs in order to ensure the IC is moving consistently. Extensions will be given in extenuating circumstances. Please recognize your limitations before joining the RP, if you are unable to post once every ten days, then it's highly likely that you do not have enough time to keep up with the RP. In the event that you do miss the deadline, your character will be listed as 'inactive'. After a further week of inactivity, your character will be expelled, and dealt with as necessary in the IC, whether killed or used as needed and then discarded. This whole process is simply easier if you just let the GM know if you're unable to keep up or simply have lost interest in the RP. If you find yourself in a plot with another player and they disappear, do your best to move on without them and quickly finish the arc to the best of your ability, or ask for the help of a GM.

This is a Character-Driven RP, and as such you are encouraged and expected to take charge of your character's subplots and storylines. There will be a heavy emphasis on collaborative activities and team building as well. The GMs will be leading the RP in the traditional sense with a driving plot and will ensure the RP keeps moving however we do want to see you develop your characters and produce your own plots. However, we don't want to see you lock your character out of interaction and focus solely on your character and their 'world'. No one enjoys watching you play with yourself, it's always better to let someone else join in on the fun.

If you join this RP, if you take the time to submit an application, I'm putting my faith in you that you'll be committed to it and that the character you play will be consistent with the one in the agreed-upon CS. The tendency to not care about an RP after a while?

Hero - The default role the majority of players will take on. Antiheroes are included under this umbrella. As a hero player you may submit a character either to participate in the main universe or you may submit your own 'What If' and play within that multiverse with the option to either open it up to other players or crossover with the GM-run 'main universe' at a later time.

Villain - Some players may opt instead to write as a villain. There are a couple of additional guidelines associated with this role. Anti-villains are included under this umbrella. As a villain player you may submit a character either to participate in the main universe or you may submit your own 'What If' and play within that multiverse with the option to either open it up to other players or crossover with the GM-run 'main universe' at a later time. However, as a villain character, if the 'parent' hero character is in play in the 'main multiverse', the villain character falls under their purview within that universe. Outside of that, you are free to play the villain in their own 'What If' or on invitation from another player to their own multiverse.

Invader - On a voluntary basis, players may take on this dual role and be either a Skrull or a Martian in addition to their choice character. For example, if a player is writing Batman, they might also want to secretly be a Skrull and it would be up to other players to suss that information out. In the event of two players both wanting to be Batman, one can volunteer to be a Skrull in a private conversation between both players and the GM so as not to spoil the surprise in the IC. Invader characters can only be played in the main universe.

Players can opt to either create their own What If and tell contained stories within that setting with the possibility of multiverse jumping for crossover events or players can tell their What If within the RP's overarching universe. Players may work together on contained multiverses and create essentially a micro RP within the RPs greater scope.

Players are allowed multiple concepts thus you are able to set one story in the 'main universe' while simultaneously exploring another in a separate multiverse with the ability for the Watcher to gather together heroes for a greater purpose.

This means that players can explore multiple iterations of the same character. At the time of acceptance, pending the players' desires, the GM can designate a main universe version to the game. Exceptions fall under the clause of being an invader masquerading as a hero.

Compared to past 'One Universe' games, 'What If' is focused on the concept of the multiverse meaning players are concurrently running their own universes alongside the one run by the GM. While the GM multiverse will consist of the game's primary narrative, players are also encouraged to build the world with their multiverses and collaborate with other players to tell those stories. Players will be presented with opportunities to cross between their multiverse and the GM multiverse for 'Crises' events with individual 'Crossovers' left up to the discretion of each player and their concept.

The game will, as it has in the past, run in 'Seasons' with the Season concluding when that Multiverse's narrative has resolved. Each season, the GM directed multiverse will pivot on a different multiverse with players being able to continue their characters in the previous multiverse or swap out for a new concept to keep the game feeling fresh.

Why do you want to play this character, what is the driving motivation behind both this desire and the character themselves. What do you hope to accomplish and where do you want the character's story/stories to go? For a driving character, there should be enough of an outline present to interest other players along with specifications towards how many players you're looking to involve or available roles. For supporting characters, this should indicate either a plot you've arranged to be part of or the type of plot you're looking to be involved in. Roaming characters have the privilege of doing either or simply stating a roadmap for the character to exemplify how you'd ideally like them to move between plots.

...CARTER HALL FOUNDED THE GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY?

Katar and Shayera Hol were a pair of alien law enforcement known on their homeworld of Thangar as 'Wingmen'. Thangar was the Capital of the Thanagarian Empire, the successor to the Polaran Empire which had previously ruled the Polaris System. In the spirit of their predecessors, the Thanagarians had become an expansionist race that plundered other worlds and stripped them of their resources and treasures to fund their ever-expanding fleet. Numerous members of their conquered worlds were taken as slaves and used to further the goals of the Thanagarians.

As Wingmen, Katar and Shayera were responsible for ensuring the general populace's obedience to the Empire and among their duties was prisoner transportation. It was this duty they were carrying out when the pair's patrol craft was pulled through a wormhole before crashlanding on Earth nearly five thousand years ago. Surviving the crash, Katar and Shayera found themselves on an unfamiliar world in a foreign system. Seeking out a settlement, the pair found their way to Memphis.

The Egyptians were astonished by the pair of Thanagarians and immediately became enamoured with their visitors due to the resemblance of their armour to the god, Horus. Welcomed with open arms, the pair were worshipped as gods by the people who believed that Horus had blessed them with his children. However, one of the high priests, Hath-Set, grew envious of the attention and worship the pair received. Craving it all for himself, Hath-Set began to covet Shayera as well, stalking the woman until he began to obsess over her.

However, when the high priest finally confessed his feelings to Shayera, she spurned his affections choosing to remain loyal to Katar. In vengeance, Hath-Set planned to murder the two aliens exposing them as flesh and blood instead of the gods the people believed them to be. Poisoning their drinks to weaken the pair of Thanagarians, Hath-Set had their unconscious bodies moved to his sacred chamber where he planned to carry out their murder as a sacrifice to his god. Using a knife made from the heart of a meteor, the blade cursed Katar and Shayera to forever be reincarnated, only to fall in love all over again. Then, at the point when their love for each other was greatest, the hourglass would turn, and they would both die before their time.

Since that first death, Katar and Shayera have lived hundreds of lives, each different from the last and plagued with the memories of those who came before. Each life followed the same template, the pair would grow up, start their lives and eventually find the other, fall in love and then watch the other die. Often, Katar would die first, sacrificing himself for Shayera. The other times they would die together. However, no matter the lifetime the pair were forced to endure one tragic end after another.

<Bridging Paragraph>

On an archeological dig, Dr. Carter Hall recovers the buried Wingman ship that his original incarnation crash-landed on Earth thousands of years prior. Upon restoring power to the vessel, it begins to receive a distress signal from the reigning Princess of Thangar asking all active Wingmen to return home. With some help, from his friends, Carter ventures into the stars only to find himself once again shot down and captured on the planet Hny'xx, otherwise known as...

Hope's End.

Hard heels clicked rhythmically along the cobblestone alley as the redhaired woman maintained a brisk pace. The cold night air showed her breath from between a pair of pursed, ruby lips. One hand was slipped into her jacket, resting at the ready on her standard issued firearm. The other gingerly touched against the stone wall while emerald eyes darted about recording every inch of her surroundings. Clandestine meetings on a foggy night were a Hollywood cliché, but yet, here she was carrying one out on behalf of S.W.O.R.D. The Sentient World Observation and Response Department was a counter part to S.H.I.E.L.D., the Strategic Homeland Investigation, Espionage and Logistics Division. Developed in response to the world's so-called heroes and villains, it was these beings of power that had long since confirmed humanity's question of what was out there.

Turned out, most of it wasn't as friendly as the one with the hammer or the boy scout in blue.

Ahead of her, a tall figure loomed in the shadow cast by the overhead footbridge. The sounds of the city were louder here, able to cover their conversation as splashes of colourful lighting could be seen beyond the figure at the alley's exit.

"The sun is very bright today." The male stated as Agent Morse approached him.

"But the ice is still very slippery." She replied with a bored tone.

Again. Cliché.

"Thank you for meeting with me.* The other figure nodded appreciatively before producing a small flash drive from within their palm. "Everything you're looking for is on this drive. Recorded footage, your analysts will be able to tell it's not doctored or forged. There were three of them, big, green and with pointy ears."

"Skrulls." Morse snarled before reaching for the drive. "They're not usually so careless."

"<Then you shouldn't be surprised that this is a trap.>"

Morse moved to draw her weapon, but the familiar hum caused her to hesitate as she looked towards the male in front of her. The glowing barrel of his weapon pointed directly towards her abdomen as two others appeared from the shadows, transforming from inanimate objects back to their true form.

"<Easy, Red-Eyes. This is a Shi'ar Disrupter, it'll put a hole even in your durable carapace.>"

The agent smiled before her voice suddenly filled the heads of her three would-be assailants.

If you knew what I was, then you should have brought more men.

The Skrulls shrieked in agony, purple blood spilling from their ears before their eyes rolled into the back of their heads. All three corpses dropped to the ground simultaneously as Agent Morse brought her phone to her mouth.

"I have three specimens for transport."

Smoke coupled with the smell of ash and weapons fire rose into the violet sky that surrounded the world of Centuri VI. Three of its moons were still visible, sitting high in the sky, unobscured by the sun even at midday. Despite never having had contact with Earth, Centuri VI’s architecture was incredibly similar to that found in some regions of the Terran Homeworld.

The Capitol; the home of the Centurii’s governing democracy, had seen better days. Buildings made of materials comparable to limestone and marble had been damaged from the sonic blasts of the insurgents’ weaponry. Entire buildings had been reduced to nothing more than rubble from the attack.

At the heart of the Capitol lay the Senate, Centuri IV’s governing body. The dome-shaped roof was supported by a series of columns that circled the building, raising it high above the ground. The Senators had been brought out one at a time, forced to kneel and wait. For what?

They did not know.

Each governing body member exchanged nervous glances with those on their left and right. Any cries for help were silenced immediately, and equally so any pleas for mercy. The armoured insurgents showed no signs of sympathy for the Senators.

Centuri VI had been a democracy for almost as long as recorded history existed. A planet made up predominantly of philosophers and artists, they had long considered themselves to be past the needless bloodshed of war. But unrest had spread across not only the Capitol but the world as a whole and soon the insurgents had enough numbers to go to war.

This was the closest any of the Senators had ever come to a violent death. Tear-stained eyes were drawn towards the foreign weapons held by the insurgents. Neither the arms nor armour were of Centurii make. It was this advantage that had allowed their smaller numbers to quickly overwhelm the world’s governments.

The steady hum of a skiff echoed down the street as the sleek craft appeared within view. The narrow vehicle flew above the ground, the brake flaps deploying before it came to a sudden stop only yards from the line of soon-to-be executed men.

Atop the craft, a towering figure in black armour began to descend towards the ground. Wings appeared from the back of his suit allowing him to glide towards the ground before marching towards the Senators. Following behind him was a tall, lean figure.

But they were not Centurii.

<“I see you took some time to use our gift for personal gain. Has your team located the fugitives?”> The figure asked, gesturing towards the restrained men with one of its four arms.

<“By my honour, your fugitives are not among my people.”> The armoured figure replied, his helm retracting to reveal a scarred visage. His yellow skin was marred with red and orange bruising. The man’s right eye had been entirely replaced by an implant, the luminous circuitry visible within a large scar running the entire length of the right side of his face.

<“But your gift has not gone unappreciated. For too long have the old and cowardly forced all of Centuri to adhere to their ideal way of life He. Now society will be able to begin anew, led by those who fought for it.”> The armoured figure smiled, nodding towards his men as twelve simultaneous shots rang out. In that same instant, the bodies of each Senator fell to the ground lifeless.

<“Now, you have more of this technology, you can bring us more to solidify power?”> The armoured man asked, turning back towards the alien.

<“Oh indeed,”> It smiled wickedly in response. < “I’m more than happy to oblige.”>

Above Centuri VI, the void of space was suddenly illuminated by a blinding flurry of lightning as the fabric between time and space was ripped apart like a once-clenched jaw. The bow of a ship slipped through the gaping maw as a Hive Ship exited slipstream and came to orbit around the remote Class-I planet. Behind the massive vessel came another like it and another after that. Each of the ships entered into orbit around the Centuri VI. From the surface, the humanoid populace turned their eyes to the sky. Even from the surface, the Hive ships were visible around the planet.

The armoured figure turned towards the sky, a confused look crossing his face. He could not possibly understand the horror he had unleashed upon his world, but he knew enough to feel fear.

<“Deception!”> He roared, raising his weapon towards the alien. In response, it looked back towards him defiantly, clearly unphased by the sonic arm cannon levelled towards its face.

“Khaji-Da.” It replied, and suddenly, the armoured figure froze. The helmet emerged from within the armour and closed around the humanoid’s head. The eyes suddenly glowed red before it spoke.

<“Assuming direct control.”> Came the suit’s response, the weapon lowering away from the alien. The smug look of triumph passed over its face before it turned its gaze back towards the sky.

<“If the fugitives are not among your people, then you are no further use to me. You and your world will exist solely to serve the Hive.”>

From within the Hive ships came a deafening humming noise. Hundreds of small vessels suddenly exited from the hexagonal patterning on the ships' underbelly. Diving through the atmosphere of the planet, the ships began to fire on those below. A man reached out to his child only to be struck down. A metal prong hooked into his back, injecting the man and forcibly transforming his body. Crying out to his child one last time, the man's eyes went blank as he lost his individuality becoming nothing but a drone to the invading aliens. Turning to his crying child, he extended a spike from his wrist before reaching down and submitting her to the same fate as he. More and more of the natives began to fall to this fate. From the Hive ships above, a haunting electronic voice echoed over the planet.

<“We are the Reach. We will add your biological and technological distinctiveness to our own. Your culture will adapt to service us. Resistance is futile.”>

The message continued to play on a loop as the Reach began to bomb the planet from orbit. As they had done to the populace, the surface was transformed. The Reach penetrated the surface with pillars that unfolded to cocoon Centuri VI. Drilling to the planet's core, they were preparing the world for a metamorphosis, ensuring it would survive the terraforming process. As the cocoon began to spread, the planet's resources were slowly absorbed as the Reach harvested each and every one of them. Their new drones slowly awakened from the transformation process as they began to assist the cocooning process, their new implants allowing them total comprehension as they became one with the hive mind. Descending through the atmosphere, the first of the Hive ships prepared to land as the other two departed from orbit.

This world, like many others, now belonged to the Reach.

...CARTER HALL FOUNDED THE GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY?

At least that was the case until the pair met the Justice Society of America. As part of a team, they always had someone watching their backs. Carter and Shayera were finally able to live out happy, full lives, dying peacefully alongside one enough. Carter's last breaths were those of relief, finally believing the curse to be broken.

Until it wasn't.

Reincarnated once again, Carter began another life. Walking the same familial paths, he re-established old friendships, re-attained old certifications and once again wandered in search of Shayera. But no matter where the Hawkman search, there was no sign of the Hawkwoman on Earth.

So Carter began to look to the stars.

I've had designs for both the Guardians and Hawkman for quite some time in previous games. They've never particularly worked out, but I think reapproaching them with familiar story beats will allow me to reach some new heights. The initial concept is adapted from an idea of doing Thor and the Guardians of the Galaxy (Asgardians of the Galaxy?), with Thor swapped out for Hawkman. Taking another story beat from a previous idea is swapping Gamora for Starfire who I think has the potential to be a rather interesting character. I love science fiction and the idea of romping about in space but with enough ties to Earth to justify getting involved there is very appealing.

| EARTH-668
__THE VEGA SYSTEM - THE EREBUS, THE CITADEL FLAGSHIP
The Tamaranean woman walked the bottom-lit hallway flanked by a pair of armed Gordanian guards. Long black hair flowed from the back of her alien orange skin, falling against her back and spilling over the purple fabric of her intricate bodice's train. Waiting for her on the massive vessel's bridge was Lord Antar Ftt B'Jan. He was a Kree deserter, though despite being a tailcoat, it hadn't stopped Ftt B'Jan from having a bloated sense of self-importance due to his position as the sole autarch of the desolate world of Hny'xx. The Tamaranean Queen was familiar with the Kree male, as like herself, Antar had forcibly been made to sign an alliance with the Citadel when they sieged the Vega System.

"<Ah,>"1 Antar acknowledged the Tamaranean Queen coldly as she entered the room. "<Queen Kormand'r, your sister sends her regards.>"

"<I'm surprised her heart still beats in her chest. I thought your pits were supposed to be only for the strong.>"

"<Your disdain for your sister blinds you if you think her weak.>" Taunted Antar, "<You gifted me my champion, she's the strongest contender in the pit. But!>" He paused, rubbing his hands together wickedly, "<I have someone new I'm eagerly anticipating will give her a challenge.>"

"<They had better provide more than a challenge,>" Kormand'r snarled, "<They had better kill her or I'll personally be visiting your backwater little world to finish the job personally!>"

"<Might we remind you, your majesty,>" A new voice hissed, "<You are not in charge here.>" The Psion added, their reptilian tongue darting in and out from between their scaly lips as they approached the bickering pair. Kormand'r froze for the slightest second, her hair standing on end upon seeing not only a Psion, but this particular Psion again. Her right hand balled into a white-knuckled fist, fingernails threatening to draw blood from her palm as she increasingly squeezed.

"<My Lady sends her regards and flagship in her stead, but she will not join us today. Our forces on the Shi'ar front are more demanding of her focus at this time.>"

"<Plytus.>" Kormand'r started, steeling her tone to hide any hesitation in her voice, "<Lady Styx does herself a disservice sending a Kraalian crotch-worm in her stead. Our history is hardly cordial, I should cut you down where you stand.>"

The Gordanians flanking the Tamaranean Queen tightened the grip on their weapons, but to Kormand'r's surprise, they were not pointed at Plytus, but rather at her. The crocodilian-like guards had an almost sly smile to their toothy snouts. Their long tails raised from their relaxed position on the floor, balancing them to spring into action. Perhaps it should not have surprised Kormand'r where their loyalty would truly lie as she looked from one reptilian species to the other. The Gordanians after all, were made in their creator's image.

"<And you, my dear Queen,>" Plytus replied, raising a clawed limb signalling the Gordanian guards to relax, "<Need to remember to whom your position is owed.>" Plytus purred walking past the Tamaranean without fear of harm.

"<After all I fixed you.>" He stated before taking a seat in the commanding officer's chair on the Erebus' bridge. "<You're welcome to cut me down, but that would make you a traitor to the Citadel. Your death would not be so quick, and Tamaran would be forfeit. Tell me, was the physical price you paid so high that you'd let your world die for revenge?>"

Kormand'r locked eyes with Plytus, defiantly staring the reptile down before the tense silence was broken by Antar.

"<As I have no interest in this stalemate, I would ask why, if the Lady could not be present we were summoned to her flagship, Herald.>"

Plytus gave Kormand'r one last smug look before turning his eyes towards Antar.

"<Centuri VI was lost to the Reach.>" The statement hung in the room, even the Tamaranean seemed stunned enough to stifle her feud with the Psion, at least temporarily.

"<The Hive has begun a hostile expansion and we can't be sure that the Vega System is not in their path. The Citadel is already at war with the Shi'ar and we have barely settled our ceasefire with the Kree Empire. Tensions are high and a single ship in the neutral zone could make the entire Rann-Thanagar Treaty fall apart. Lady Styx expects the utmost competency from you both. Get your houses in order before the Reach is on our doorstep.>"

Plytus looked down at both the leaders before him.

"<Did you think your Lady did not know about the uprisings on Tamaran? Sparing the resistance simply because your brother is among them, now who is weak your majesty?>" The Herald scolded before turning to Antar. "<And you, using prisoners for entertainment instead of harvesting the resources that Hny'xx holds beneath her surface. You were a traitor to your people, the Citadel did not put you on Hny'xx to indulge in a hedonistic fantasy. You are there to work, you are there to make sure that planet is stripped to its core for the glory of the Citadel! Stop wasting their strength in the pit when it should be used for the quarry!>" Plytus roared, salvia flying from his maw.

"<Guards!>" The Psion snapped, motioning towards both the Queen and the Lord. "<Get them out of my sight.>"

As she was escorted from the bridge, Kormand'r managed to steal one last look at Plytus. She could still smell the sterile lab environment as she looked at his smug visage, still feel his cold-blooded fingers ignoring her cries and still hear the hissing laughter at her agony.

The reptile would die by her hand.

Thud.

The leathery fist made contact with Carter's face. The meaty slap echoed across the open arena, eliciting a cheer from the crowd and a muted grunt from the Terran combatant. Rearing back a fist, the four-armed Branx held the Thanagarian warrior tightly between his lower arms while continuing to swing wildly with his other two arms.

Thud.

Thud.

Thud.

The wall suddenly gave way, revealing the hidden chamber behind the ancient wall. Entering the new opening, Dr. Carter Hall straightened his hat before igniting his flashlight. The beam refracted off the metallic hull of the vessel within.

It was exactly as he recalled it through his ancestor's memory. It was perfectly preserved despite the passing of several millennia, the damage sustained from the crash was barely visible as the Nth Metal slowly healed itself using the vessel's dwindling power reserves. The Brontadon had once been cutting-edge technology and by Earth standards, it still held up. Its Nth Metal construction made it capable of exiting the atmosphere with next to no difficulty, easily defying gravity all while giving the ship an almost organic construction.

Removing it from Egypt was no small feat, but after managing to circumvent several layers of red tape, Carter had the Brontadon back state side where Pat Dugan whistled admirably at the sleek construction.

"Don't worry, Carter. I can definitely get this bird back in the air."

He was true to his word too as Carter found himself making his first jump to lightspeed. The ship handled beautifully until it suddenly didn't. Pulled from lightspeed, the console was flashing various shades of amber, red and orange. Weapons' fire rained along the hull and Carter found himself in a dogfight without a gunner. The Wingships were designed to be flown by a team of two, a gunner and a pilot.

Out maunevered and flanked, the Brontadon soon was entangled between four tractor beams and Carter found himself looking up into the mask of the pirate captain. His ship stolen, stripped for its precious resource, Carter was given as tribute to a local despot. The despot recognized him as a Thangarian, a fighter.

Leading to Carter joining the pits.

T
hud.

"Enough of this." Carter roared as the final punch split his lip. Warm blood dribbled into the thick layer of stubble that had begun to cover his chin. Tucking his knees to his chest, Carter drove his heels straight forward into the Branx's abdomen, aiming for where the diaphragm was located on a human. Whether he struck the equivalent alien organ or not, it was enough to loosen the larger sentient's grip. Using the advantage, Carter took ahold of the alien's wrists, pulling his knees up again but this time twisting his torso upwards. Delivering another set of sharp kicks, Carter struck the underside of the Branx's jaw, driving its tusks upwards into its own cheekbones.

Its cry of pain echoed across the arena as the spectators jeered at Carter's sudden reversal. Free from the alien's grip, the Thanagarian warrior retrieved his sword, sliding between the towering alien's legs and slashing across the back of its calves. Following up with a swift kick to the back of its knee, the Branx howled with agony before dropping to the ground.

A pommel strike to the back of the head was enough to completely daze the creature before Carter slid the blade of his weapon under its chin.

"At least make it a challenge for me!" He mocked, looking defiantly towards the ruler of Hope's End, Lord Antar Ftt B'Jan.

"Do you yield?" Carter roared in the Branx's earhole as the crowd jeered again.

"<No.>"

"So be it." Carter muttered as the warm silver liquid spilled over his blade and onto the rusty sand below. The displeasure of the crowd echoed in Carter's ears as he returned to the undercroft beneath the arena's floor.
