Oh, the way I see it, it's less Mind Reading and more Mind Sharing, everything is consensual, kinda like telepathy imo.

The bond can share everything from senses, perceptions, physical abilities, emotions, thoughts, and even memories between two parties. For instance, if someone knows how to do a specific motion that Iava doesn’t know herself, the knowledge required to do so can be shared and learned instantaneously through the connection. The extent of what is being shared depends on each party. As an example, someone could choose to only share the memories they have up until their fifth birthday. But it's not always a concrete choice - when the bond is made, both parties already have a predetermined idea of what they want to share. It’s similar to a conversation; you aren’t just going to tell someone all your traumatic experiences, your deepest darkest secrets & greatest fears for no reason. Thus, those memories that don’t want to be shared, and the thoughts and emotions associated with them are essentially “locked away,” to the point where Iava herself has no idea they exists.

Thing is, Liz can share pretty... questionable stuff. There's always that risk. 🫢

I was basically prepared for James to be her main conduit for most of the roleplay, with the other two characters being for emergencies. I think Shiara being the most hesitant because of the potential mind reading (again though, this portion of the power seems completely optional) is a fun character dynamic! Maybe it only happens once in the entire roleplay because of an emergency and she hates it as much as she thinks she's going to?

Is this okay with you @shylarah if not, it seems @imia is willing to write a new power. I don't mind either way, especially if you're uncomfortable with that even being a possibility

With the juxtaposition of Elizabeth sharing things that the recipient doesn't care to know about and will definitely traumatize the poor warrior lol

Now, the issue of crew positions is still up in the air with two members not officially given a position. Shiara is in the crows nest and scouts ahead on land missions.

Elizabeth is probably the most intelligent of the group (of only for her age), and is mainly specialized for combat. I think this makes her a shoe in for first mate.

Which leaves Iava as a bit of a wild card. I'm thinking I'll write in some NPCs for a carpenter, and some extra deckhands to man the cannons. Maybe Iava is just hired to be some more extra muscle, as those NPC sailors won't be fighting. Which would make her official title on board the ship as: Mercenary/deckhand. Because everyone on board a ship works, no buts about it! You'll get a larger share of the loot for participating in the fighting, of course, but you'll be tugging ropes and hauling in the meantime! ARGH!

Being an old hag (in a child's body) notwithstanding, Beth is educated like a noble and witch would, which is a privilege in an age where being literate is still something to brag about.

She's also more of a ranged jack-of-all-trades rather than a damage specialist. She can tank (with her blood constructs), heal, damage, and crowd control. The tradeoff being that she's not as potent in any one thing compared to a specialist.

Furthermore, considering she's also a skilled physician even without her blood magic, she can alternatively serve as the crew's doctor, or if we're keeping the first mate decision, then the backup doctor in case the main doctor is unavailable for one reason or another. After all, you can't have too many doctors.

I know you got us in the stitching up wounds department but treating poisons, infections, illness, isn't covered by its effects correct? I read it as more of a combat medic spell

Oh and by the way everyone, I've decided your character can look at another mage and get a vibe on their type of magic. You cannot discern specific spells, etc, more just the school in which it resides. This does not work through walls or across large distances.

Oh, that's a good point. Hmmm... yes, let's go with that. She basically has magical sutures and blood bags, but stuff that can't be treated by those things will be beyond her magic, she'll need - ugh - mundane stuff to compensate such as antidotes, antibiotics, etc, like a normal doctor.

Assuming Alice does decide to go for the dedicated healer concept, then maybe their char can do that, we'll see when they get back to us.

@RoseKnightJason hey. does the sense for other people's magic work for, say, Shiara's spirits if they pop *through* the wall separating Shiara and the target to be assessed? They had magic -- Senki shadow magic, and Rokkal had some warrior bullshit that I haven't thought through yet.

@CollectorOfMyst ahoy, matey. So long as you can get the powerscale to fit what we already have laid out, a weather witch should be quite useful on the ship. The only caveat is we'll have to add you after the first scene most likely, depending on how fast you can get a sheet up!

CHILLSSS i never rersponded to everyone LOL, it was cause we all ended up being on the same page so i didnt rlly have to step in. anyw yeas itd be mind sharing and im glad u guys are thinking abt the dynamics related to her power cause its smth im excited to explore when it comes up^^

with james it feels like itd be an extension of the typical captain-crewmate bond yk? but with liz i can see alot of conflict arising depending on what gets shared and what happens related to it - if it's smth that gets confronted, or if it becomes a sort of lingering tension that drives the two apart in a way. and with shiara it could be a slow building of trust, or just a relationship that never reaches the bounds of iava's magic, but still develops as deeply either way. it could be comforting in its own way b/c iava has someone who doesn't know as much abt her, and that can be just as freeing as somebody knowing everything abt you and accepting you regardless

and regardless of what happens w any sort of magic, im excited to see how our chararcters to respond to this world^^ the opener was very inspiring and i srsly love james already _{also im gonna put my cs in the cs tab lols}
