I would just like to say I am incredibly impressed with everyone's writing and thrilled the roleplay is already starting off at this caliber.

You could easily walk in on this scene given the circumstances, or be found in the days before the ship leaves port. (Foreshadowing 😃)

Tanned skin, sun-bleached hair, lean muscle, a tattoo and a scar or two - Rory's practically a picture of your stereotypical sailor, and blends in well enough in most ports. Perhaps the outstanding part would be the obvious pride he takes in his appearance - he keeps his face clean and the scant hair on his face neatly groomed; his boots are polished and his clothes carefully fixed of any holes. And particular care is taken with his coat - his protection against the wind and rain. It has no particularly special properties, but it is precious to him nonetheless.

THE BELOW IS THE BROAD STROKES, NOT THE FINAL WRITE UP

• Comes from Ireland/is of Irish descent.
• Mother's side of the family is witches; she taught him much of what she knew.
  Something happened (likely involving his mother's imprisonment or death as a witch, or his father discovering and terrifying him into not using magic) to make him not use magic for most of his life.
• Tried very hard to live a lawful life - joined the navy.
• Grew close to another sailor, practically brothers (unrequited//oblivious love? Or too complicated?)
• Due to a run in with pirates/a storm/another navy, Rory was forced to (didn't know how else to) save his life with magic.
• His friend turned on him, so he had to flee and is now both a deserter and a witch. And only a few will so willingly take on either.
• Brings him to now?

Magic Type: Tempestarius (storm magic)

Basic Effects: Command over wind, rain, thunder, lightning. Keep away from gunpowder (sparks) - alternatively, direct him towards it. Casting it is almost like dancing?

- Can conjure enough wind to fill a sail (extra speed on the ship)? Small rain clouds for fresh water? Or would these be an Advanced spell?

Advanced Spells:

Stormcaller - does as intended. Calls a storm, with all the wind and thunder and danger to ships that it entails. Requires a lot of focus.
Wind Step effectively a 'double jump' because why not.
Witchbolt - lightning attack?

As for minor effects like speeding up the boat with wind, rain clouds, you could probably sense pressure changes in the air to tell when a storm is coming, (we could probably bullshit some navigation abilities in there via sensing air currents, so he can take the navigator role on the ship!) and all of these would count as basic Effects. So you have that organized correctly!

Summoning a whole ass storm is going to be such a strategic choice I can't wait to see when we pull the trigger on that one lol

Edit: for balancing sake. The storm conjuring spell I'm seeing right now as an ultimate attack. So work backwards from there.

Just so you know my point of view/powerscaling: without enhanced strength, James wouldn't be able to send Shiara flying. In terms of size he's an average man with pretty exceptional muscles. Ade is more the size that could send her flying. Just wanted to relay this to clarify the setting, not because you said or did anything wrong! @Shylarah

@RoseKnightJason Well I was kinda crossed between navigator and ship's doctor (because as far as actual medics go, we have Blood Magic, and Shiara's sewing kit, but also I was just thinking he'd genuinely be able to legitimately navigate a ship.

@Izurich I'm really sorry to keep asking you to edit your character, but you brought up a very good point in your initial attack post. There's no limitations on Elizabeth's puppet ability. Meaning you can effectively just Darth Vader all my bosses to kill themselves lmao. Could we come up with a trigger for that spell as well? At first I thought of needing a sample of an opponent's blood, but that is also pretty unstoppable for a blood mage. One scratch and you're dead type of consequences there.

Again I'm really sorry to keep requesting edits and I hope you don't feel singled out!

As a kept bonus ( and to make your first scene canon as well) people with no mana of their own are completely susceptible to the power

No problem! And yeah, that's a really good point. Fortunately, there's an easy solution for this using your Darth Vader reference. Just like in Star Wars, other "Force users" can resist / repel the Force Telekinesis imposed upon them. Just replace force with mana for our case and voila!

Got it, 'grunt-type' enemies will be completely vulnerable just as they're susceptible to one-hit-KO's from other techniques, haha.

Also, got an idea to not make the power completely useless against a boss. Harkening back to that Star Wars reference, what if it's used against a mana-user, the power can only try to affect a small part of their body for a brief period, sort of to disrupt a single action and it can never be lethal on its own, just like a Jedi vs Sith fight where one uses their force power against the other.

I never responded to this! I've never had a player describe one of my characters as inspiring, so this is an accomplishment in my book. Thankyou.

Likewise, since your in character posts I've been impressed by Iava's detailed personality. I've always felt I'm much better at writing in character than I am writing out a character bio/sheet. I feel we may be kindred spirits in that sense.

Tallying up the slice to the knee James is going to have to heal, (1lb) the cut on the chest, (1lb) the destroyed eye (1lb) and the portion of tentacle that got hacked (3lbs)

As well as the creation of the bone spikes (6lbs each)

That is about eighteen pounds out of the total 180 James has stored. Just so you know roughly how I'm tracking this, and that I am tracking it! (Hint: if James hadn't retracted the tentacle to try and save some material that would have been more of an 8lbs loss) Also since Shiara was wondering, though she wouldn't know that in-character lol

At this point, I think Liz has stopped thinking about winning and just relishing in their little bloody dance.

Just never let her know James' power allows him to basically be a giant blood bag too, she might develop a crush on him, and that's bad, the crush part. 😆

@shylarah I personally think there's still a fair chance. Liz and Shiara are still totally undamaged. That hit, while in close proximity and nearly undodgable, could still be minimized to a non-lethal degree depending on how she reacts.

James's knee is FUCKED up right now. Next turn he'll have to heal it before he can move, so he's stuck in place for at least one.

If you all swapped out who's doing the front line fighting for long enough to stitch up Iava's injuries, she could get right back out there.

I think for the fact that Shiara isn't a combat type, and Iava can't use any of her magic right now making her nearly a normal human, you're doing quite well as a trio. Not to mention, that blood witch hasn't even gotten serious yet.
