It could. You just need to use your imagination and not have such a limited view of the word 'potion'will excelling at spells make you the most powerful witch or wizard of your era? I could argue no, because unless you can use that to your advantage in such peaceful times, they have no use. Also, you seem to have a rather rigid view of the word 'power'. Power comes in many forms, not just raw strength....Kinky.

then why are the most famous Slytherins known for other types of magic? Merlin is known for being extremely powerful and a specialist in charms, Voldemort has never really used any potions except the one that gave him a body, and he mostly uses dark magic. I'm not saying potions aren't powerful, it just seems like JK Rowling never really showed any Slytherins who were the most famous for them. even Salazar Slytherin is said have been a specialist in Legilimency, and deosn't mention anything about potions.

went ahead and introduced the three NPCs, got a bit lengthy xPOkay, you're simply assuming those are the only Slytherin's that were ever famous. Sure none of the ones mentioned out there were 'famous' for potions, but its a big world.

Snape was an expert in potion making and an excellent duelist. Just because they have a main trait doesn't mean its the only one they're known for haha. Potion making would also make you skilled on what herbs and parts of a creature you can use to help with healing yourself, or warding off certain creatures, or damaging an enemy, So it really isn't bad if you are an expert in potion making hahaha

what do you mean? Merlin being a Slytherin was made official, and he was a specialist in charms, if JK Rowling okays it then it's canon. I'm happy about that, it makes it easier for Slytherins to be good guys. Charms are awesome
