Speaking of, you guys should set up some torches around the starting area. That way, even if people die horribly in the night phase, the new players have a sort of safe zone.
Even better would be to build a sort of safety hut that new players spawn in and old ones can hang out at. Anyone with digging tools could start making a tunnel from there, too.

I'm pretty sure they wash up on the shore in groups, not spawn. So while a fort would be useful, they'd have to make it into it from the water. And they wouldn't be completely suckered, because I think Elendra expressed an intent of sending new players in batches, after maybe three or five players die, I dunno.

That's a good point.
I've also been told that people might start digging out a little den underground. If that gets made near the water and people set torches near the entrance, people won't have to worry about spawning in an unsafe area. If there isn't already a finished den by the time I get in (if I get in), I'll help with the digging efforts.
