VenatrixXII said We start in France and flee to the Black Forest (unknown atm, but leaning more to Logan being half leprechaun and how much Veela's detest them.

That was just an isolated incident! there goes Logan's chances of making out with magical French Vixens

Doctor Belasco said Also thinking of throwing together a last-minute Slytherin to keep Grant company. Was thinking perhaps an ex with whom he's now close friends (to the immense displeasure of his later conquests).

(Pictured: Logan whenever Grant and aforementioned ex get into sassy arguments.)

But on a serious note, I'm intrigued by how that dynamic would affect the rest of the group's behavior towards the two.

That is my single favourite gif-type thing of all time. Anyway, Vena, it's up to you if you want that character or not for Grant's sake really. I genuinely don't mind either way. :)

Sounds brilliant and I can already think of awkward arguments. She could be a sarcastic smart ass Ravenclaw ex instead of Slytherin. Any form of connection would work and we do need the Ravenclaw brains on or side.

On our last incarnation we reached London and one character was jumped by a few old death eaters in knockturn alley. Not much else happened aside from us apparating to the leaky cauldron for medical help but that's when the site went down. So there really wasn't much for France yet and I think we can come up with something cool.

Imp said something about an old witch dying... We could have something dramatic like that as we all meet up. Logan can also make out with a French vixen but she wouldn't know... unless his leprechaun magic aids him against the Veela's powers of having him act all macho and impressive. Later on she could try to tear his throat out, kinda like that transformers scene where she tries to kill him with seducing.

I think I might make Dale susceptible to their effect too, but not because she's interested, just a derp. :P

Three characters have connections to Beauxbatons so it might be nice sooner or later. I just thought I ought to drop the canon-bomb in case anybody was thinking we could just drop in on our way further East (we can't - it's Southwest). I can't speak for Veronica or Lydia (the other Beauxbatons-relevant characters) but I think I'll start Johann off at his sister's anyway, so I don't actually mind that much.

I wonder about the notion of 'evil' characters and whether perhaps we could avoid generic villains because muahahahaI'mSoEvilMyFaceEvenLooksLikeASnake and instead go for more realistic situations. For example, Germany won't be Britain under Death Eater rule - it's just quite right wing in a way centrists may find uncomfortable. If we go there, there's not going to be ancient demons or serial killers that're the antagonists - it'll be authority figures being overbearing and overly defensive, as they tend to in such countries. It's believable, and I think there'd be greater drama for that. We don't need to be super-believable all the time, but I'd rather err on the side of realism. Apart from anything else, the most compelling conflicts are usually (melo)dramatic rather than action-based, and we have plenty of space for arguing and fighting and whatnot within the group. That said, if anybody does have a bright idea with a bit of solid plot for an arc, I'm more than happy to support them because frankly I haven't got one. Ehehehehe...

Johann plus Veela is going to be rather worrying, just so you know. I suggest running quite far away. I imagine Michael would be frankly laughable. That said, aren't Veela Eastern European rather than Western? They're mascots for Bulgaria, and I'm pretty sure Veela are actually already characters in Slavic mythology suggestion Eastern origins.

A tomboy

I can't stand Ravenclaw so she's staying a Slytherer if you still want her. I thought she could perhaps have had a bit of a thing with Grant for a short while before they both realised it was a ridiculous relationship they weren't actually very interested in, and they just agreed to be good mates. Perhaps it's a bit of a running joke for them that everybody expects them to have relationship trouble when they really really really aren't.

T'was only a joke, don't take most of my meanderings seriously. Though the Leprechaun magic having subtle affects on other magical creatures and Muggles would be a neat thing to pursue, depends on how deep we want to roll with the Leprechaun mythos, most of J.K.'s magical creatures seemed rather stereotypical, at least in my opinion.

VenatrixXII said I think I might make Dale susceptible to their effect too, but not because she's interested, just a derp. :P

Man, is nobody going to be interested in Logan for a legitimate reason? I suppose Logan will just be stuck as the odd Leprechaun out in that regard. No love for the midget.

This now must happen, and I will be very disappointed if it doesn't.

Yes, but doesn't Fleur being half(?) Veela prove that they can be found all over Europe rather than their central influence in the East? I myself would prefer to run into them when we hit Germany or Bulgaria or what have you if we run into them at all, I mean, I doubt we'll be running into any Leprechauns outside of Ireland, no?

Yeah, it really really really does have to happen. :D
With respect to Johann, I'd rather meet them somewhere other than Germany, since he's clearly going to be reasonably central to any arc we have in Germany anyway, so I'd rather sexy French veela to sexy German veela. In ideal Belasco world where Belasco gets everything Belasco wants with respect to Johann's character arc, the veela would be introduced in the short-to-middle distance. I kinda get the feeling that if he were to go on heat a bit of a rampage, he needs to have spent some time making at least some alliances in the group in order not to simply be abandoned.

There's definitely no Leps outside Ireland, though.

Idea Alert: (whee whoo whee whoo)

Let me present France as a country with a reasonably right-wing government but a population (workforce) that really really really doesn't like it. Can you smell red riots? Suppose we get caught up in a massive protest that starts to get out of hand? I thought perhaps there could be a yearly wizardy festival (maybe even similar to a music festival!?) at an unplottable magical castle in France, which then becomes the target for a big demonstration. Think riot police. Think disaffected workers. Think carnage. Think chaos. We don't have to stick around to fix it; it can be as simple as turning up, pitching the tents, getting into a spot of bother then fleeing for our lives.

Though the group not abandoning him could be the thing that causes Johann's character development. I dunno'.

Quick, someone that isn't me think up something we can do in Ireland!

Is this all leading to a "Switzerland is the only nice place in Europe." thing? Everyone else seems a bit busy coming out of their conservative shells.

Well, the public feeling in France would be probably lefty. But I suppose there can be riots for any reason - I just thought workers' strikes would be a decent enough cause.
My worry with Johann getting actually kicked out of the group means there's not a lot of coming back from that without him eating a craptonne of humble pie, and it'd be a shame to have him do that too soon. ;)

I'm not saying I'm against it at all, I just get the gist that the various Wizarding Governments are still pretty heavily right wing, despite the Second Wizardiing War ending quite a few years ago now.

Then I'm not sure, I'm not quite clear on how he'd be able to make any friends in general within the group without taking at least a slice of humble pie. Maybe the crew gets split up during their travels at some point? Who knows.

You're right about that and I'm going to put some effort in to make sure he's a little bit softened in the group so as to avoid abject bloodshed from the start, but if he does go on a veela rampage (and yes he absolutely will) he'll need to be ingratiated into the group first. That said, if they are in Germany, perhaps they only keep him because he's useful...

Or they could keep him around for his sister who'll no doubt inform them of Johann's tendency for extremities. Unless we're not meant to meet the Beauxbaton's NPCs, in which case ignore me.

I don't think the group will be meeting her at the start of the adventure. It doesn't really matter. I'm not going to plan too much (any more :l) because everything will work out with a bit of thought and I don't want to push the river or force anybody else down a plot they don't want to write.

I wouldn't be discouraged if I were you, I myself don't feel confident enough to write up a subplot or character arc due to suspicion that it'd lean a bit towards the pedantic and self-indulgent side on Logan's part, at least yours opens up avenues for other characters to get involved and so on.

Oh hey! A new character sheet! How did I not notice that until now? Man, I might need to make Logan even shorter to highlight his Half-Breedness, we've got a couple of females that are only an inch taller than him. Though the age difference seems intriguing.

Man this RP needs a Skype group or something, can't help but feel I'm flooding the OOC with my nonsense.

Yeah, RPG went down again for the best part of two days. The Facebook and IRC groups were going nuts.

In fairness, I think the main reason the IRC was going nuts was because there were people in there asking about for information.

Anyway. I guess all we need now is to, uh, start.

:) I'm here, with things to say!

So, Belasco, it seems we continue to have very different views on what the politics and people of wizarding Europe should be like... But I'm not going to argue until I think my ideas are better-defined (which they aren't). All I'll say is that if there need to be riots in France, they shouldn't be leftist worker's riots.

Damn, I have to get back to work, I can't explain myself. Um, to be edited.

EDIT: My interpretation, I guess, is that the wizarding economy is wildly different to ours, due to having a much smaller population, much more plentiful resources (i.e. magic) and an almost complete lack of destitution (among wizards and witches, at least; hags and some other creatures are a different story). So, the necessary conditions for early-20th century-style workers riots just don't exist... Wait... x.x goddamn it, ignore me. Leftist riots perpetrated by hags and vampires would make SO much sense. I'm horrible at this.

EDIT 2: :) I like Leck. She could be a good addition to the crew.
