They are low level demons that hunt in packs. They are just good fodder to start out with in combat Challenges. Green ugly things lol.

Ah... hunh... *is confused, not angry or upset*

Well, if they are demons... then I guess what I wrote should work. Devils and demons should pretty much be some of the scariest monsters you can face in any setting, even the weakest of them should give one the chills and have common folk running for the hills.

Generally, I have a character that knows about monsters, demons and spirits but doesn't fight them herself. She advises others in how to do so, creating something of a niche role and letting other, more action oriented types, take that particular initiative. When there's a monster with no background my character is effectively shut down.

Dredges were a bit like feral hounds save for the rotting skin and exposed bone. They were also considerably big, measuring up to the largest of dogs. Also unlike dogs, they aren't at all natural but instead are the product of magic. They are the result of a rather lower tier incantation of summoning but incredibly useful if the magic wielder needed to hunt down anything living, as long as they didn't need anything alive of course. What did this anonymous summoner want with a Draconian Paladin? No idea. Probably for sport.

I described them a bit. They are summoned and are more undead than demons. Imagine like undead wolves with a huge appetite for anything living. They really only follow direction of whatever summoned them but they also follow the same hierarchy of a wolf pack so there will be an alpha in the pack.

The issue with what you posted is the assumptions directed towards Arco. He is a Paladin and more than capable of slaying demon and undead alike. And he was not punching the dredge. He smashed its neck with his mace (which is blessed).

I threw in the bit about the punching mainly as flavour text so that Assallya could ponder the possibility.. I never once indicated that the mace wasn't blessed or was ineffective, nor did I state that Arco wasn't capable of slaying demons or undead. In truth, I rather assumed once the other heroic types managed to give him room to breathe he'd start blessing their weapons and thus bring a sense of a budding team to the fray.

My general difficulty is that without knowing more about these creatures I can't exactly summon up and illusion of something that would strike fear into their unbeating hearts and thus give them pause enough for the heroes to take advantage. My character is based around knowledge. When there is no reference material my character is rather useless. How do I choose a spell appropriate to the situation? Maybe a blinding flash would have been better? Maybe an illusion of a bigger beast or creature? Maybe that pouch of powdered garlic, or the one of silver dust in the wagon might prove useful?

Alrighty. I was just a tad confused what you were envisioning...

Anyway, I'll be glad to offer suggestions.

Dredges prefer easy prey and will ideally seek out things that will not fight back like all predators. Four of them headed towards the Inn because they believe they would have an easier prey. Arco and his group have already killed quite a few of them so he has already been deemed as difficult and dangerous. Those at the inn that they saw, might be easier. It isn't so much fear as it is convenience. So using an illusion of something like a sheep? Well that could draw them. They either need to see it or smell it.

You could also throw out some stinky, rotten food. Being already undead, they'll love the smell and taste of rot.

Huzzah! Another edit done! This time I'm attempting to lure them away and then will hide inside the wooden wagon :) Having a door you can lock is sometimes really handy.

TJByrum; as the first page explains, this role-play is a semi free-roam role-play based around an Inn from a previous role-play I was a member of which lead to a epic saga which I am basing the book(s) I am in the process of writing on. Read the front page of the OOC and see if it seems like something that would interest you. Note that any new Elvish, Dwarvish, Fae, won't be accepted because of the amount there are. Humans, Orc and other traditional fantasy races will still be accepted.

Just in case you think my last post there was a bit too hasty in leaving the group. It probably was, I did it however so as Outlawed's character wouldn't be isolated.

I've read the entire OOC post and I am interested in an Inn RP for sure.

I was just trying to figure out where the characters are and what's going on before jumping in.

I'm wondering if the RP is based entirely around the inn, trying to escape, trying to live there, or 'make it up as you go' and what each character is currently doing at the moment.
