A figure of large scaling will need stronger muscle to support it, therefor it won't have any problem, just like we don't have any problem being 6ft tall and weighing 195 pounds estimate.

To the contrary, if Lorenvolk are equally proportioned to humans, they would be certainly slower if not weaker. There is a reason elephants don't look like giant mice.

Pound for pound, a human is stronger than an individual lorenvolk. Maximum strength figures, however, are in favor for the over-sized human for obvious reasons.

In the case of Robert Wadlow, tallest man ever, cartilage and circulation was at issue. As height increases, distance blood must travel increases twofold, thus Work done by the heart increases by twice the amount height increases.

Robert Wadlow was a member of the human species, and was thus bound by human bio-mechanical limitations. His body, genetically, was not designed to support an unusual height. Lorenvolk, though based on the human species, seem to be specifically tailored to be large.

Breaking news: Biomechanics and physics work the same for tyrannosaurs, elephants, blue whales, humans and fantasy giants attempting to be realistic. By all means the OOC is the place so anyone else considering giants can know the practical ramifications.

As giants, lorenvolk lay claim to greater physical power and greater bone density. An African elephant is a 9 ton creature (actually, when they trip, they have a nastey tendency to shatter bones on a simple impact), while a blue whale cheats physics by utilizing the buoyancy of water.

I thank you for the rapid response. Dialogue is the most fruitful means of conversing :)That the Lorenvolk are stronger given the sort of allometric scaling you are describing is indubitable. A six foot six man, this being for the purpose of determining Lorenvolk weight, has a normal weight of 195 pounds via the Hamwi formula. Double all his dimensions to make him 13 feet tall, his mass is multiplied by 8 as the cube root of length varies with mass proportionally. Therefore it weighs 1560 pounds. Something that huge, as big as the biggest polar bear, should be slow.

It won't be slow. Lorenvolk have longer legs than your baseline human, and therefore can cover more surface area as they run, enabling them to move quicker (and thus move faster) during running sessions. They may be limited by how high of falls they can land from, as lighter creatures are capable of enduring much greater falls than heavier ones (this is why your family cat can drop from two stories and survive, whereas you cannot). For a comparison, brown bears---which can weigh over 1 short ton--can run at speeds of over forty miles per hour, and are frighteningly nimble for something burdened by heavy bones, fat and dense muscle. Granted, they possess four legs (which allows them to distribute their weight more evenly along their length and width), but they still don't dodge physics. It could be argued that such a hefty creature such as the brown bear gets away with its speed and agility by way of its low center of gravity.

That reminds me: Lorenvolk have an unusually-high center of gravity, and may find it harder to change direction due to their increased weight and said high center of gravity, but they'll still have a maximum speed greater than a human. Expect them to easily keep up with your mounted horsemen with relative ease, with well-conditioned lorenvolk more than capable of competing with your horses in the endurance department.

Fact is, you cannot bind a species that is not human to human limitations. This would be like me taking my yul, whom encompass 3-4 foot tall rodent men and women, and forcibly subscribing them to human limitations by making them run 7 miles per hour or some other nonsense like that. All because they are short.

As much as I personally loath them, binding lorenvolk to human bio-mechanical functions is stupid.

In case anyone wants to take a look, I finally added the race sheet to my post in the Nation Dump. It's not quite finished yet, but at least now everyone knows what my people look like. XD

And ASTA, I noticed that your sig changes every time I refresh the page. That's cool.

I posted my incomplete but WIP Nation Sheet. Considering it is a city state, I realize the claim is somewhat large, but much of this land is uninhabited, and what is (like the port) are de-facto members of the city-state for obvious reasons like protection and economic stability.

I also know the social structure can be slightly confusing, but just know that while wealth is seen as power, this is only the case because of the people. There is no official democracy, but the people have the means and the power to overtake the current aristocrats at any time. Think of an unofficial type of ochlocracy working in conjunction with an aristrocracy. Make sense, or should I restructure part of my NS?

A military comprised of highly-trained soldiers clad in 'outdated' steel armor whom favor Fabian-style tactics, with the soldiers utilizing powerful shoulder-mounted ballista, with said ballista firing bolts that possess tips laced with an unusual (and rather unstable) reactive composite explosive constructed using chemical compounds and conventional explosive material (most likely gunpowder), with the bolts having the capacity to detonate on impact with a target.

In a 5th century RP.

I have questions. How fast will time pass in this RP? Also, how will population growth be handled? Do we just add a certain percentage to the top? Will there be random events?

There won't be a set time-per-post, and to make things a bit easier, messages and the like.could be sent a few days before the most recent post, as long as it is reasonable.

Also, modern population growth is roughly 1.4% per year, but population took a massive hike in recent years (relatively speaking), so I was planning on having population growth being negligable.

Random events can and will happen. Storms, natural disasters, barbarian attacks and other lovely surprises lie in wait.

As with all things, I'm open to suggestions and improvements.

Concede the point about speed, however circulation remains. The giraffe, while being two feet taller, has four legs and too much blood pooling in the lower legs is a constant concern, as is extreme lower leg blood pressure. The Lorenvolk are even more vertically oriented with a higher heart and almost as tall, and while weighing half as much as a giraffe, has two legs. Shouldn't keeping blood pressure down be a chief concern?

ASTA makes a valid point, I'm afraid. That does seem a bit far.
If you need pointers for armour, remember that Roman Armour was made of a mix of steel, iron and bronze plates overlapping each other. Steel was really expensive in those days, though, so it might be worthwhile to buy iron or bronze armour.
And the shoulder mounted ballistas with explosive tips - no. Crossbows with normal crossbow bolts, yes, but not shoulder-mounted ballistas, and NO explosive arrowheads.

And to add onto this your capital city has 5 million people. From what I can find, that's 5 time the size of Ancient Rome at its height.

I know people said I shouldn't take tips from games, but I always saw the Lorenvolk as being like the Giants from Skyrim - Slow strides and slow swings, but able to walk far distances with less steps and really powerful.

Looks rather interesting, honestly. I didn't expect anyone to make an independent city state.

This can be solved by simply possessing a heart that has a mass greater than the norm---in example, that mammals normally have hearts that make up less than 1% of their body mass (the African lion's heart is between 0.45% to 0.57% of its body weight; for a human example, the heart typically weight between 9 and 12 ounces, with 12 ounces being just 4 ounces shy of a pound). Exceptions do exist in nature however, like how the African spotted hyena developed a heart that is nearly 1 entire percent of its total body mass.

It could be said that lorenvolk have hearts large enough and strong enough to pump their blood through their bodies, allowing them to maintain a healthy blood pressure that wouldn't result in them passing out, while their bodies may have been naturally optimized through evolution to handle their own natural needs for everyday function.

To be fair, I'm not disregarding the limitations of a bipedal form possessing that height and bulk, but in theory, it could work.

However, I don't make human subspecies or variations. I make beast races, the largest of which are quasi-bipedal.

The shoulder mounted weapon does not fire any sort of explosive bolt. The 'shoulder mounted Ballista' is basically a slightly larger scaled crossbow placed over the shoulder and requiring two people to fire it. The city size is of no logical reasoning, Rome was massive, The Imperium isn't therefor people live tighter together. I was originally going to make the Holy Legion a single legion of 10.000 men whom protected fortitude with access to the Imperial arsenal, but I wanted to try and see if this flew before hand. Obviously it didn't so I'll edit it. The exiled legion are clad in outdated, worn and experienced armor, I didn't say the same for the Holy Legion. The Augustus Eagle is, as mentioned a portable, city placed siege weapon of large proportions. it should fit the setting since ballista's were used by the romans during this time and the Augustus Eagle is essentially a larger ballista, yet again placed in an immovable tower in a city. But your wish against the Pheonix bolt is certain and therefor the explosives will be removed, but it'll still be on fire. I am well aware that my soldiers will face incredible dissadvantage in any environment that isn't flat which is why I placed myself around the larger portions of the map that was being occupied with people whom use the larger mountain ranges, the only reason that Fortitude is located on a mountain is because the realms own military forces has trouble getting there, obviously there's roads making it easier.

The entire exiled legion is unrealiable, and with the coming edit which will make 90% of the entire army into the exiles it will create quite the tension.
