Two topics in one day. I feel like Nat. Oh god.

Anyway, I've just declared my major (English) and two of my latest essays are in the running for monetary prizes from my college. Looks like my time away from Spam has paid off. I am excited to once again lose some brain cells by sticking around here through the slog that is finals.

How's everyone else doing? In college (for you youngsters/old fogies) or otherwise?

In high school; watching my life disintegrate as my teacher fails me on a technicality (hes, uh, sorta got a grudge against me, long story) and stops me going to the insanely amazing uni I got a conditional offer for (Imperial College London). Yay. On the other hand, I have an unconditional offer to Edinburgh uni, which is... like... 17fh in the world this year, or something, so... #gettingsomefuckingperspective
Also, anxiety attacks over the aforementioned clusterfuck keeping me up at night, yay... I'm starting to get pretty exhausted, haha. /venting

Congratulations on your essays; hope you win! Let us know. Why'd you end up picking English?

I'm doing pretty fabulously. Presented my senior showcase on Monday night (a dance I choreographed based on Virginia Woolf and a play I wrote this past year). One of my dance professors allegedly told my mother that I could pick anywhere to work in the dance world and I could. :3 So I'm kind of on cloud nine where that's concerned.

Ermmmmm I only have three more classes to attend before I'm officially done with college. I graduate next sunday the 4th. Eeep.

I'm completely moved out of home, I have a year off for work and writing to look forward to, grad schools to seek out, I'm thinking about getting a cat, and I'm quite happy. My time off from Spam has paid off, too. :)

I know you likely hear this a lot, but teachers suck and high school can range from being an overall neutral pain in the ass to an absolute nightmare. I had two teachers, one in my freshman year and one when I was a senior, who were dead set on sinking my GPA. That first teacher succeeded in basically getting me kicked out of my first high school, but that's hardly important. I ended up doing alright in terms of getting into college and Edinburgh is a fantastic school, so don't fret over that. I know you'll make the best out of wherever you end up because you seem like the sort.

I'll keep you posted on those essays of mine. I'm only a first year, so I'm not too sure they'll be winning much of anything, but I still feel honored to have them nominated in the first place. I chose English because it turns out I really do suck at all sciences except Chem and Orgo, and there's no way I want to devote my life to chemistry. I enjoy writing papers and reading too far into all manner of literature, so it seems like a good choice. It's not the most profitable major out there, but I figure a nice minor to go along with it would set me on the right track for the future. After all, my college has a fairly respectable English Department, so it just seemed like the best choice for me.

Egad! You're so old! I mean, congratulations! I only hope to one day be as close to graduation as you are, at this moment. I'm done next Thursday, besides a final paper and completely arbitrary exam.

Yeah, I know quite a few people who've had a similar experience and came out of it okay. It's not the end of the world, its just... very frustrating. The kind of workload I've taken on this year is virtually unheard of, even in my statistics-conscious top-of-the-charts secondary school. I've freaking slaved over this stuff. I worked for 21 goddamn hours straight the other day. Ive volunteered around the school, and represented them at maths and debating competitions - hell, I won second best individual debater in Scotland and Northern Ireland in the middle of my mock exams. And if it seems I'm boasting, its because I sorta am - or at least, I wanna feel some pride before realising it was all effing pointless. It's all coming to nothing - I may as well just not have bothered, because the only universities asking for me to have done eff-all this year have now been closed off by this guy's total fucking cuntasticness. More than having devastating consequences for my future or anything, its just the frustration and bitterness that's getting to me. Disillusioned doesn't even begin to cover it. Anyway, this is just me bitching and venting, I know I'll be fine in the end. I'm actually considering not going to uni this year, and going to 'college' (different thing here; I think the American equivalent would be like 2-year community colleges) to do a few things that I always wished I'd had time to do but just couldn't fit in my schedule - try to use this as a thing freeing me of the sense of obligation to go to uni immediately. We'll see. Meh.

You never know - you might be bringing a fresh air. The potential exists for people who've all been in the same classes for years, studying the same things with the same professors, to end up all producing similarish things. It's happened this year in my English class - the change in our styles throughout the year has been noticeably convergent thanks to our teacher commenting on/editing/influencing our work with her own preferences and such. As a first year, you might just be different; they're clearly already impressed with the standard of your work, beyond that of many of your older and more experienced peers.
Certainly makes sense; if what you like and what you're proficient at line up, may as well go for it. What are you studying, may I ask, literature-wise? I always find it interesting to see what different unis/curriculums end up studying - if it's all the same stuff, as in some ways you'd expect (everyone studies Shakespeare, for example), or whether everyone studies different things.

Nursing it up at the University. I've got like 3 more years ahead of me and then like another 4 for graduate studies that I'd like to get done. So good. I kind of just want it to be over, though.

Highschool's teaching system fucking sucks and the same thing would have happened to me, only difference is that my teacher only met me for three days and hated me. When I first joined an actual highschool from homeschool it was late in the year and I was given two weeks to either pass or fail by doing a semester's amount of work. This teacher I had just gave me quizes on the subject of greek mythology, which was the subject that everyone was reading and I excelled in half of them though the other half were wrong because the teacher didn't like how I already knew the subject and I was a new student. So he called me wrong for shit I knew because my answers, while they were true, weren't the answers he wanted. I talked to him and found out he was dead set on failing me because I was a "smart alack" because I didn't need to learn this shit from him and his class. He was also teaching the class greek mythology completely wrong (even going far enough to say greeks worshiped Kronos and that kronos lived in Olympus with zues) to fix the problem I took a major opportunity. one day my teacher continued his shitty false readings and teachings and he made it known that the principle was coming over to observe how things were running, (he also told me that if I even say a single word he'll call security on me) ... so I waited and then the principle showed up and right then he said some BS and I stood up and called him out on it,,,, he at first said I didn't know what I was even talking about because I was new and I pointed everything I said out in the book (Odyssey) and he still tried to deny me and even called security. The principle was siding with him until I gave her the book and told her to read and since she wanted to be deemed as good to everyone she humored me and learned that I was right after all. She called off security, asked for my name, said that I must have been very dedicated into my learning to know so much, I said I was, she looked at the teacher and said that they will be talking and then told me that another English teacher will be handling my quizzes. End of that semester comes, it's found out that that teacher was fired and my class was split up towards the other English classes of that level. So... basically I established my dominance against all the teachers and the principle began to be seen observing classes far more often making the teachers needing to know their shit before they teach it.

Oh but back to this....

I have 2 finals to do, bbbbboth of which are due tomorrow... one of which is for my CIS coding class. and then I'm free. :D

Until the end of the week... then it's CIS part 2.

My course is really cool at the moment, I just finished an essay on gender and madness in the C19th and C20th and am writing one on the Battle of Britain and the Battle of Algiers films now. Later in the term I've got a presentation on Raphael's School of Athens and another on Schindler's list. I'm glad I only have to pass this year, though, because I don't always apply myself and I often write essays on the day and get about a 55, atleast it's mostly because I'm enjoying myself this year but when I do plan properly I get firsts. I'm going to have to try harder because there's a few tutor's I want to impress for references. I've got a 3 week archaeology school coming up in the summer, and next year I've got some nice morbid modules; one about the Aztecs, Mayans and Incas, and another about how the dying and grieving processes changed from Rome to Renaissance.

Going on four weeks of double shifts with only one day off the entire time. Having to do three other people's jobs on top of my own, still only getting minimum wage, and being treated like shit by bosses and customers both. Getting to the point I'd gladly take the 20-Life for killing every single one of them. And having to unofficially train all the new blood, because none of the managers/other 'vet' crew members will do it(seeing as all of them will be quitting by the end of next month, and I can't blame them).

On a more up note, will be starting some driving classes to work on dealing with my lack of depth perception and irrational anxiety/panic attacks behind the wheel. For someone who is hit by a large vehicle at least once every other month while walking, you figure I'd feel better in a large metal box instead of out in the open. I feel more comfortable on my own two feet or a motorcycle than in any car/truck. Oh yeah, and I have a '91 Harley Lowrider now...that needs some work(ok, a lot).

In my slim amount of off time, been working on my art(minimal progress), a novel I've been scraping and rewriting for the last seven years(3 more scraps), and getting back into playing my guitar again after a long while of having put it down.

Working. Single. Waiting for too many things. All in all I could have bigger problems than waiting for health insurance to kick in so I can't complain too much. Running on 5 hours sleep though because sleeping in the dark by myself scares me so rest has been disrupted a little.

Peachy basically.

Finishing my first semester, with high chances of failing Math and Analytic Geometry.

The problem stems from some bullshit that utterly shut down the university for several weeks, during which time online tests and and classes were issued. Because it was some disorganized mess, I ended up losing half my exams. The only upside to this is the decent amount of downtime I'm using to teach myself programming.

Meh, not bad. I'll be finishing with my associates this year and hopefully be transferring to a four year school. Of course the major I plan on going for has no better chance of getting me a good job then my associates in Gen Ed does... so yeah I'm pumped. haha.
